been a while to talk to you. But I am
you know, to be able to name the commonwe out
Games team is so exciting and you know, we've got
to think of what's another word that I can say
apart from being excited, But it definitely is their emotion
and not only for me but also the players, the

Silver Ferns and the families as well.

Before I get into it, how confident are you within
this group that you've named not only heading two Glasgow
for what is a pinnacle event for netball, but that
you can push past or the distraction of.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
What's gone on in the last nine or so months.
Speaker 8 (04:01):
Oh look, I've pushed past that ages ago, and I
think the biggest thing is to know that we've got
a pinnacle event, which is common walth games that you've
got to move You've got to move on and you've
got to be focused on what's aheed of you And
for today and the announcement, it's definitely a milestone for
(04:23):
the Silver Fions there myself.

How different was it this time around Narlene assessing Sun
Corpse super Neple form across the Tasman versus A and
Z Premiership Foreman, did you have to give a little
bit more weight to performances in Australia?
Speaker 8 (04:39):
Yeah, Look, we've got a really we've got five in
our selection panel, so we are very clear about knowing
that we're watching not only Australia New Zealand, but there
was also an athlete over in Vitality, which is in England.
So we're very aware of where our athletes are and

the opportunity to see them make sure that we're really
clear as to their performances, but also our connection their
clubs as well. So we set up processes in regards
to what we call club versus country one plan. It's
ensuring once again that our priorities are aligned with club.
(05:22):
So we've been tracking players, you know, right from the
beginning of the season.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Let's look at some positions then, I'm just looking at
the depth you have defensively, Danla and how was it
how tricky was it to settle on the four that
you have there and at the defensive end. And I
suppose secondary to that the injury concern of Catherine Hawley.
Are you reasonably confidence she'll be good to go from
the opening game? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (05:45):
Probably in response to Catherine Hall. Obviously she hasn't been
playing for Mystics for a few weeks now and the
management our return to performance plan underway. The thing that
I'm really excited by is who progression every day and
we're seeing that's been really positive for her. But also
(06:06):
you know, we're following our medical teams and support as
to what our benchmarks are or for her. So you know,
every day is a good day as far as I'm concerned,
and we're confident with Nader in the twelve. In regards
to the whole defense and usually any selections, it's always
difficult because we can only name twelve, but you know
(06:29):
the defense that we have, I know we can go
three deep in all positions, not only in the defense,
but right throughout the whole court.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Just on the injury theme, I suppose with the mid
court to Maddie, Gordon Camille or a POI injured at
the moment, Mieler as well.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
As it's some injury issues.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
I know that's far from from ideal, but you're confident
there too that you've got the class, the caliber of
athletes who can be fit and firing at the important.

Yeah, definitely. Look, I'm both Maddie's been on the court
for Queensland fire Birds for about the last month to
six weeks actually, and she's firing away as is Meela
as well, So we have no issue there. Just in
regards to Kimmy order similar to a Catherine on a
return to performance, and we're really happy and positive with
(07:26):
her progression daily. He's naming her in the twelve.

Then Nolane Toda with a silver and squad name for
the Commonwealth Games later in July. Late July, Nolan, what
have you made of the am Z premiership this year?
Given all those notable absentees of you for one of
a better word? Over to Australia, what have you made
of of the level of our domestic netball competition?
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (07:49):
Look, I've I've loved it. I always knew. I know,
you know, I know there was a discussion with some
of the players going over to e SEC and playing
in that competition and what that would look like for
A and Z. But holy, you know, like when you
watch a competition now you see a new breed of
(08:09):
players coming through, but each game you don't know who's
going to win. And I mean the last week's game
between Stealing and Tactics was a boomer and they're going
to have another boomer this weekend, you know, which is
going to be a do or die game. So the
competition has been amazing and it's probably added to the
angst to be honest around the selections for the Commonwealth Games,
(08:33):
knowing that there's a lot of remarkable players that are.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Coming through speaking of angst, and it just does feel
like a little bit of groundhog Day again with the
uncertainty around the A and Z competition. I know it's
probably above your pay grade, but certainly you have a
vested interest. How concerned are you as the national coach
that was sort of in the similar holding pattern again
around where our domestic competition lies.
Speaker 8 (08:57):
Yeah, I mean, I don't think I can add anything
out that what has already been said in regards to
the A and Z, and I'm waiting as well for
Netbor New Zealand to make that announcement as to the competition.
We all know or I know the work that's been
done behind the scenes, and you know that that announcement
or public response will be in due course. But the
(09:22):
great thing that I probably would put across is, you know,
the quality of what I've been able to see over
the competition so far, but also the milestone to get
to the stage of the selections in Commonwealth Games has
been awesome. So in my mind, I'm full steam ahead
and looking forward to calm games and seeing what we
(09:43):
can do with this team.

the possibility of a second NRL team being based in
New Zealand. The NRAL has made no secrets of its
ambition to get to twenty teams, perhaps even in time
for the next broadcast deal, which would start from twenty
twenty nine. For those unaware, there's currently seventeen teams. Next

year it'll be eighteen with the launch of the Perth Bears,
then nineteen and twenty twenty eight with the Papua New
Guinea Chiefs. It's been reported that christ Church, with its
shiny new stadium and a fifth Queensland team to be
based on the outskirts of Brisbane, are the main contenders
for a twentieth license. Dean Ritchie, a well known rugby

league journalist, has made the suggestion that the time is
right for rugby league to hijack christ Church and Mercisley
Berry rugby union. Well I've got a few problems there, Dean.
One say what you're like about teetering interest in Super rugby,
but the Crusaders just sold out five games. The South
Island women's team broke a domestic attendance.

Two, Well, this genuine confusion around who is backing a bid.
We've had three different groups, all have a crack and
all three were knocked back in late twenty twenty four.

The Warriors already have established a huge following in the
South Island. Another soul out in christ Church this weekend
reinforces that. And four, a fair chunk of the South

league and is based in christ Church, I'd love for
it to happen, but it is going to take a sophisticated,

outs for the Chiefs and big change, big inclusion at

What do you make of these two teams for Saturday's
big dance?

Yeah, some big changes, Like you say, I think disappointing
for the Chiefs to lose the likes of Lulakai four
Kitty and Isaac Hutchinson from their back line. They looked
really good in their play in the semi final. Hutchinson's
squads try and then went down with that leg injury,
which I guess is what's keeping him out of this,
and four Kitty as well through that midfield set up

a few trires before he had to come off late
with that injury.

So I think disappointing for the Chiefs to lose both
of those guys for sure.

Then on the Canes side, Devin Flanders comes straight back
and look, Brad Shields to me, Kobe and I haven't
spent too much time with Brad Shields, but listening to
his interviews and know he's sort of part of that
certainly the leadership group and in the past co captain
pretty selfless move really, I know he'd be one who
would love to start, but drops back to the bench.

Would have been I imagine.

A little bit of a tricky call for Clark laid
Or knowing how much they value Brad. But in terms
of what we saw from Devin Flanders prior to his injury,
it seems like the right court.

right call. Yeah, I definitely agree. Flanders give you so much,
And I think what's importance note is how much the
Hurricanes trust Clarke Laidla and his decisions. If you take
last week's semi final, for example, they took off quite
a few of their biggest stars were sort of twenty
minutes to go, and the bench came on and sort

of finished off the Blues, I think you could say,
and none of the players that came off looked disappointed.
So I think they have full trust in him. And
if Clark Ladel has made the call by back it so.

Kyle Brown starts a center for the Chiefs, Liam Coomb's

back from injury himself last week off the bench, will

I think when Luke Metcalf, the whole scenario with the

would need to go through to get fit and I
feel like those weeks have now been He's looked good

there's been a lot that's happened since that first Test

what chance do you give New Zealand of leveling this

would say this is a big opportunity for New Zealand

and we struggled against in those warm ups, so it's
hard to say if we've still got a chance at
the the butterfingers in the fields. It was tough to watch,

especially after the first game, and then it didn't really
improve in that second game and the lost to Sri Lanka.

Did it No, I did not. And look, no one
goes out there to drop catches. But yeah, just some
of the execution leaving a fair bit to be designed.
And look, lastly, Kobe, I know you're big in terms
of football and the beautiful game. It's been pretty beautiful today.

most recognizable names, all having a huge influence in today's matches.

of of the level of our domestic netball competition?

Look, I've I've loved it. I always knew. I know,
you know, I know there was a discussion with some
of the players going over to e SEC and playing
in that competition and what that would look like for
A and Z. But holy, you know, like when you
watch a competition now you see a new breed of

players coming through, but each game you don't know who's
going to win. And I mean the last week's game
between Stealing and Tactics was a boomer and they're going
to have another boomer this weekend, you know, which is
going to be a do or die game. So the
competition has been amazing and it's probably added to the
angst to be honest around the selections for the Commonwealth Games,
(08:33):
knowing that there's a lot of remarkable players that are.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Coming through speaking of angst, and it just does feel
like a little bit of groundhog Day again with the
uncertainty around the A and Z competition. I know it's
probably above your pay grade, but certainly you have a
vested interest. How concerned are you as the national coach
that was sort of in the similar holding pattern again
around where our domestic competition lies.
Speaker 8 (08:57):
Yeah, I mean, I don't think I can add anything
out that what has already been said in regards to
the A and Z, and I'm waiting as well for
Netbor New Zealand to make that announcement as to the competition.
We all know or I know the work that's been
done behind the scenes, and you know that that announcement
or public response will be in due course. But the

great thing that I probably would put across is, you know,
the quality of what I've been able to see over
the competition so far, but also the milestone to get
to the stage of the selections in Commonwealth Games has
been awesome. So in my mind, I'm full steam ahead
and looking forward to calm games and seeing what we

the possibility of a second NRL team being based in
New Zealand. The NRAL has made no secrets of its
ambition to get to twenty teams, perhaps even in time
for the next broadcast deal, which would start from twenty
twenty nine. For those unaware, there's currently seventeen teams. Next

year it'll be eighteen with the launch of the Perth Bears,
then nineteen and twenty twenty eight with the Papua New
Guinea Chiefs. It's been reported that christ Church, with its
shiny new stadium and a fifth Queensland team to be
based on the outskirts of Brisbane, are the main contenders
for a twentieth license. Dean Ritchie, a well known rugby

league journalist, has made the suggestion that the time is
right for rugby league to hijack christ Church and Mercisley
Berry rugby union. Well I've got a few problems there, Dean.
One say what you're like about teetering interest in Super rugby,
but the Crusaders just sold out five games. The South
Island women's team broke a domestic attendance.

Two, Well, this genuine confusion around who is backing a bid.
We've had three different groups, all have a crack and

South Island. Another soul out in christ Church this weekend

the Super Rugby Final in Wellington. A couple of big
outs for the Chiefs and big change, big inclusion at

What do you make of these two teams for Saturday's
big dance?

Yeah, some big changes, Like you say, I think disappointing
for the Chiefs to lose the likes of Lulakai four
Kitty and Isaac Hutchinson from their back line. They looked
really good in their play in the semi final. Hutchinson's
squads try and then went down with that leg injury,
which I guess is what's keeping him out of this,
and four Kitty as well through that midfield set up

a few trires before he had to come off late
with that injury.
Speaker 7 (13:05):
So I think disappointing for the Chiefs to lose both
of those guys for sure.

Then on the Canes side, Devin Flanders comes straight back
and look, Brad Shields to me, Kobe and I haven't
spent too much time with Brad Shields, but listening to
his interviews and know he's sort of part of that
certainly the leadership group and in the past co captain
pretty selfless move really, I know he'd be one who
would love to start, but drops back to the bench.

Would have been I imagine.

A little bit of a tricky call for Clark laid
Or knowing how much they value Brad. But in terms
of what we saw from Devin Flanders prior to his injury,
it seems like the right court.

Would you agree, and one hundred percent seems like the
right call. Yeah, I definitely agree. Flanders give you so much,
And I think what's importance note is how much the
Hurricanes trust Clarke Laidla and his decisions. If you take
last week's semi final, for example, they took off quite
a few of their biggest stars were sort of twenty
minutes to go, and the bench came on and sort

of finished off the Blues, I think you could say,
and none of the players that came off looked disappointed.
So I think they have full trust in him. And
if Clark Ladel has made the call by back it so.

Kyle Brown starts a center for the Chiefs, Liam Coomb's
fabling moves to fall back, and Leroy Carter, who came
back from injury himself last week off the bench, will
start on the right wing. Speaking of teamless, we didn't

named to play the Cowboys on Sunday in christ Git,

Look at the weekend I certainly saw on the socials

there seemed to be a bit of clamoring again for
Luke Metcalf to return to the first grade side after
last week's lost to Cronulla. Were you surprised at all
that Andrew Webster has stuck with the halves peering of
Chanelle Harris, Tavita and Tamirie Martin.

I was certainly surprised.

I think when Luke Metcalf, the whole scenario with the
Dragons and his contract situation, when Webster promised, you know,
we will get Luke Metcalf back in the mix.

He'll be important for us this season. You know.

He sort of said a few weeks and training Luke
would need to go through to get fit and I
feel like those weeks have now been He's looked good
in the couple of reserve grades games I've watched them play,
especially last week, So to not put him in I
think is surprising for sure.

Yeah, one to watch for sure.

It just feels like, Yeah, in terms of the Warriors,
if they can reach their ceiling, they might need Luke
Metcalfe to get there. Let's shut up at a cricket.
Black Caps second Test starts tonight. Henry Nichols is in
for Cain Williamson. The post Kine Williamson era officially begins tonight. Gee,
there's been a lot that's happened since that first Test

at Lord's when you think of the nightclub saga with
Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson, the retirement, the immediate retirement
of Kane Williamson. Just in terms of the cricket, like,
what chance do you give New Zealand of leveling this
series with the second Test match?

all that's going on in the England dressing room, I
would say this is a big opportunity for New Zealand
to level this up.

first Test at Lord's you'd hope for a lot of runs.
And we're bringing in Henry Nichols, someone who scored a
lot of runs in the New Zealand's domestic summer. I'm
excited to see how that goes, and I think it
does pay well for the black Caps to pick him.

So yeah, I think that they should level the series one.

I don't know how much you saw in the wee
hours of the morning, at least caught up, but goodness me,

the West Indies and Sri Lanka. Is there any coming back?

It's tough because you know they need to win these
last three games to give themselves a chance at the
semi finals. And one of those games is England, who
you know, one of the top sides in the world
and we struggled against in those warm ups, so it's
hard to say if we've still got a chance at
the the butterfingers in the fields. It was tough to watch,

especially after the first game, and then it didn't really
improve in that second game and the lost to Sri Lanka.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Did it No, I did not. And look, no one
goes out there to drop catches. But yeah, just some
of the execution leaving a fair bit to be designed.
And look, lastly, Kobe, I know you're big in terms
of football and the beautiful game. It's been pretty beautiful today.
Three of the big names that the Twidren, probably the
most recognizable names, all having a huge influence in today's matches.

Exactly. We had doubles from Killian and Buppe.
