So the conditions in Sydney tonight are wet and slippery,
so that will obviously play a part.

Yeah, I think the noise around the build up because
there's been not much noise from players perspective.

They've been very vanilla and that's their space.

But a lot of the noise externally from pundits and
media outlets like myself has been around. Well, what is
Ashley Klein going to do? Because if you look at
his last game, it was against the Broncos played the
Wars at Magic Round and there was eighteen penalties and
six six A games. Now, we don't want eighteen penalties

in Origin one, that's for sure.

But the one thing also is the players.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
You've got the best players out on the pitch, they're
going to push the envelope as far as they can.
So it's going to be a fine line for ash
kleimb But we'll wait and see if it's played with
the style of play where the players will work it
out themselves. Well, boy, oh boy, it's going to be
one hell of a contest because it's going to be
super fast.

If that's the case, I'm glad you mentioned that Warrious game.
I wasn't going to bring it up because that would
be pity. But that was quite the explosion of a game.
Must have been pretty tough for you to watch, being
essentially a Queensland home game, even though it wasn't. It

want to give us a couple of lines on that
because that was something else. This team's scot the wind

They are exceptionally well at the moment. Now you go
into that game, Tanner Boyd, he was being spoken about.
I had him in my Queensland side to be fair.
Unfortunately did his acl so a bit of adversity, throwing
the Warres way, but they handled it beautifully. Tomorrow Martin
came on and did his job. Barney was up front
in his return game. They were just physic more physical, bigger, faster,

stronger and one of the form teams of the competition
this season, so they well and truly in the window
at the moment.

Talk to us about leading into Origin matches. It doesn't
matter how many you've appeared and how does it change
each time you strip up in the maroon and play.
Because I laughed before about one hundred, but nineteen games,
so very instead, how does that alter over the years?
Speaker 6 (07:12):
The enormity of the game is just grown and grown
and grown.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
You go back to back to Quatiti beats and pulled
on the raw jersey and what it meant to him
in the state. Well, that's just continued. It's just got more.
A part of what we build up is it's the
biggest spectacle in rugby league and even Australian sport to
be honest, given from what people in the numbers are
and when you have a role to play within that,

it's something you take very seriously.

From a player's perspective, you play for yourself.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
For first and foremost, you play for your family, your friends,
all those people that.

Are helped you get to where you are at the moment.

But ultimately, and this is the kicker, the main the
main people you play for is the four point two
million Queensland is for that six week period, everything, whether
it's health and sickness, whether it's financial, whether it's just
some tough times that you're going through, whatever reason, that
all is all put on hold for that six week period.
(08:13):
And if Queensland are able to get the win, if
you're a school kid and you go to school the
next day, you can just wear a maro Own jersey
and it's somewhat of immunity. That's the effect that it
has on Queensland. And so once you're able to understand
that from a player's point of view, it's very very powerful.

I'd lived there once for a few months on the Goldie,
and that's why I've got this attachment with Queensland. No
other reason, but I know what the energy is like
around the Goldie, around Brisbane, around Eva and Queensland. It's
it's very hard to describe. And you take that right
and you use that on the part because this is
this is a free energy cory.
Speaker 6 (08:48):
Yeah, absolutely, it's something you look for. It's something.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
But the history of what that myro own jersey means
is ultimately where it's where it stems to. And you're
when you get that role and you get that opportunity
to wear that jersey. You're making your part, your name,
your people, part of that history.

So you've got to you know, you've got some work
to do.

Looking at the Warriors involved, you made mention of that before.
They haven't been picked in the upcoming Penrith game.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
That I thought there too.

But what effect do you think Mitch Barnett is going
to have on the game and on the other side, Cape, Well,
how effective are those guys?
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Well, you take Apes for example, He's tried and tested,
been in the arena before, has done a wonderful job
for Queensland as he's doing for the Warriors and for
Barney or He was injected into the Origin scene only
for the last sort of year or so, but he
epitomizes what State of Origin is all about. It's tough,
(09:46):
it's uncompromising, it's relentless, and that's what his game is
built on. So he'll certainly thrive in that arena also,
but hopefully not too much.

Dissecting the sporting agenda, It's Sportsfix with Darcy Walter.

Grave Sunday's fixture for the Warriors up against the Penrith.
Pant has got so much about it. Plainly, it is
one v two. These are the two best teams of
the competition Historically, the Penrith Panthers are the best team
in the competition. Ever, the Warriors, they've never ever achieved it.

They've never got to the summit of their evres. They've
come very close, but they've not gone any further for
them to roll over the penwith Panthers this weekend, origin
absences or not, because of course, the Warriors have lost
a few key players too, I don't think it'll detract
from what may well be the turning point for the Warriors,
(10:48):
not in twenty twenty six, but the turning point for
the Warriors as a club full stop.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Look, I don't want to put too much on this game, but.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Plainly I have They're halfway through their season. There is
only positives coming from now if injury turns up. I
think we've shown that this club can dem with the
tyranny of injury. If players pack a sad and decide
to leave. The Warriors have shown that they can deal
with players and management that can pack a sad. They
(11:18):
are on the right path. They are headed in the
right direction, and I think that coming up on Sunday.
A win in this game may well be the final trigger,
so people can start saying with some form of positivity,
this is.

is that it is one of us, kind of like
on the chase, isn't it when you sort of don't
know which chase a you're going to get? Who comes

Well, I suppose Mike Cassie's mister Crockett, mister Rugby is
not the worst thing in the world. And on this
to Rugby, mister Rugby. Lots of rugby going on today,
so many stories and because you know it inside it out,
I thought would just run head first into this big
story of the day. I believe anyway, is Scooter Barrett
looks like three to five months out.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
It was on a non playing sabbatic and he's still injured.
Speaker 8 (12:27):
Yeah, this is unfortunate for Scott Barrett and I'm keen
to Saly. Not really a surprise. I've been here in
the last few weeks that there had n't been all
right with that return. The Crusaders are being very careful
around the information that they did give out over that
he was due back from the sabbatical in May and
that has now been extended out and had a couple
of issues to see too. I was seeing that not
all is right, but struggle to stack it up now.
(12:49):
Rob Penny has come out it today and said it's
three to five months and that would probably rule him
out for the year, especially if it's that five month perio,
because you take five months from this specific day. It's
very late November. The All Blacks campaign ends in late November.
He's not going to jump on a play and play
the last game of the season if he's all of
a sudden fit. So it's going to be a stretch
to see him back on the rugby field this year.
(13:10):
Hopefully we get to see him maybe play a little
bit for Tartanuki and then maybe the end of year two.
If it's at that lower leend, but end of the
three to five months.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Just give him the rest of the year off.
Speaker 8 (13:20):
Right in the first half of the year off. I
think he's desperate to play rugg Blacks captain. We're talking
send to Japan. Well, this is the incumbent All Blacks
captain that we're talking about, and he wants to play rugby,
wants to be out of there on the field, and
it's been very, very frustrating, and I think we'd agree
that we didn't see the best of Scott Barrett, especially
last year, and the All Blacks people saying I was
the captaincy waiting on him. We don't know how long

this injury has been going around, but clearly months on
the sideline has not been able to fix this either.
So he's going to go and try and get it
treated and look ideal scenarios we see him play a
bit for Tartanuki in the NBC and then he jumps
on the big bird for the end of year two
with the All Blacks. But even at this point it
looks unlikely and you would have to say it almost
makes Dave Rennie's decision if he hasn't made it already.

Around this All Blacks captaincy a hell of a lot
easier for him.

And Elliott Scott Barrett at his finest, absolute monster of
our play.

We haven't seen that in quite a well but quite
a while.

People they commediately forget when the new generation comes through.
But this guy at his peak, he's just.

A masterpack absolutely and luckily hope we can get back
to that his best because the All Blacks need that
depth and needs him firing to win a Rugby World
Cup next year. And I'm sure he's part of regardless
of whether he's captain or not, big part of Dave
Rennie's plans to win the World Cup or try to
win the World Cup.

I've got a few, But they were talking about obviously
getting Brodie Attalic back. Remember Fabian Holland is out injured.
Haven't seen him as yet this year, but you know,
Josh Law's in playing some good rugby, Sam Dowry, Patrick
Tweep but lot too to buy Jammy and he's looking good.
But I mean we're already at a Q of four
or five, so there's there's a lot of good locks
in New Zealand and you'd probably suspect that Dowry or

maybe had the beneficiaries of moving into that all back
of the fact.

That the Locks could actually drown in the depth that
we've got, which is no mean feet because they're all
so tall.

matches coming up this weekend for them any way, it's

I'm them, I'm resting them as well. Look, players can
get injured at any point, but do you want to
go see Ruben Love get injured in a dead rubberish game,
at least from a Hurricane suspective against the Hurricanes, because
that is going to invote questions for a Clark Ladler
of why did you play damn if you do damned
if you don't scenario and you better to take the

damned if you don't scenario and go. I'm just going
to rest all these players and keep them out of
the game this weekend. I think it's completely understandable. We're
only talking about this because it is the last round
letting into the playoffs. If they've rested all these players
for a game against more onea PACIFICA or earlier in
the season, no one cares. But it's the fact that
one they're playing the Crusaders and two they're playing on
the you know, at the end of the season.

But the Chiefs thing, haven't they and I'm sure the
Blues are thinking, hold on, this is not fair. There's
no opposition for the Crusaders. And then that both the
Blues and the Crusaders are bad.

You look at the Chiefs team and they've also rested
a whole heap of players as well. So these Blues
have been the most, probably the Hurricanes. But it's a
it's a close decision, and look, this is the way
that right because you know, you think about it, you know,
they're trying to win a title. They're not trying to
win a Round sixteen game against the Crusaders. And if
you look at it from that perspective, what's going to
be the best part the winning title was given these
players a week off, especially for the Hurricanes who haven't

had to buy, you know, for about eight weeks I
think it is now they had won in the first
start of the season then a few weeks in. This
is a long stretch for their top players. So clak
lad defend this.

Then I thought the fan was at the scenes of
the room. I thought it was about fan centricity, if
there's such a word, I thought that's what it was about.

in the final round, no one would care if they're
resting their entire players. It's only because it's a New
Zealand derby matchup that we are looking and going why
they're resting these players, Why are they not playing their
top team. It's only that factor that it's a marquee
matchup that we're talking about this. If it was another matchup,

no one would care in.

Their home games too, So there's a lot of energy
going on behind Super Rugby. Now it seems like it's
just been temporarily paused. I'm not sure, if that's so smart.

think they're always going to rest these players. And again,
was there going to be more energy coming out of
Hurricanes Crusaders this week if the top teams played while
we saw it three weeks ago, And for the Hurricanes
they might be playing the Crusaders next week potentially as well.
So and you know the Chiefs could play the Blues.
So there is all sorts of permutations there that you
probably don't want to put your full card on the
table a week to early.

There's only one first choice player really playing in cam
roy gads first game back. That's a lot of pressure,

the Warres way, but they handled it beautifully. Tomorrow Martin
came on and did his job. Barney was up front
in his return game. They were just physic more physical, bigger, faster,

stronger and one of the form teams of the competition
this season, so they well and truly in the window
at the moment.

Talk to us about leading into Origin matches. It doesn't
matter how many you've appeared and how does it change
each time you strip up in the maroon and play.
Because I laughed before about one hundred, but nineteen games,
so very instead, how does that alter over the years?
Speaker 6 (07:12):
The enormity of the game is just grown and grown
and grown.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
You go back to back to Quatiti beats and pulled
on the raw jersey and what it meant to him
in the state. Well, that's just continued. It's just got more.
A part of what we build up is it's the
biggest spectacle in rugby league and even Australian sport to
be honest, given from what people in the numbers are
and when you have a role to play within that,

From a player's perspective, you play for yourself.

For first and foremost, you play for your family, your friends,
all those people that.

Are helped you get to where you are at the moment.

But ultimately, and this is the kicker, the main the
main people you play for is the four point two
million Queensland is for that six week period, everything, whether
it's health and sickness, whether it's financial, whether it's just
some tough times that you're going through, whatever reason, that
all is all put on hold for that six week period.

And if Queensland are able to get the win, if
you're a school kid and you go to school the
next day, you can just wear a maro Own jersey
and it's somewhat of immunity. That's the effect that it
has on Queensland. And so once you're able to understand
that from a player's point of view, it's very very powerful.

I'd lived there once for a few months on the Goldie,
and that's why I've got this attachment with Queensland. No
other reason, but I know what the energy is like
around the Goldie, around Brisbane, around Eva and Queensland. It's
it's very hard to describe. And you take that right
and you use that on the part because this is
this is a free energy cory.

Yeah, absolutely, it's something you look for. It's something.

But the history of what that myro own jersey means
is ultimately where it's where it stems to. And you're
when you get that role and you get that opportunity
to wear that jersey. You're making your part, your name,

to have on the game and on the other side, Cape, Well,
how effective are those guys?

Well, you take Apes for example, He's tried and tested,
been in the arena before, has done a wonderful job
for Queensland as he's doing for the Warriors and for
Barney or He was injected into the Origin scene only
for the last sort of year or so, but he
epitomizes what State of Origin is all about. It's tough,

it's uncompromising, it's relentless, and that's what his game is
built on. So he'll certainly thrive in that arena also,
but hopefully not too much.

come very close, but they've not gone any further for
them to roll over the penwith Panthers this weekend, origin
absences or not, because of course, the Warriors have lost
a few key players too, I don't think it'll detract
from what may well be the turning point for the Warriors,

not in twenty twenty six, but the turning point for
the Warriors as a club full stop.

Look, I don't want to put too much on this game, but.

Plainly I have They're halfway through their season. There is
only positives coming from now if injury turns up. I
think we've shown that this club can dem with the
tyranny of injury. If players pack a sad and decide
to leave. The Warriors have shown that they can deal
with players and management that can pack a sad. They

are on the right path. They are headed in the
right direction, and I think that coming up on Sunday.
A win in this game may well be the final trigger,
so people can start saying with some form of positivity,
this is.

story of the day. I believe anyway, is Scooter Barrett
looks like three to five months out.

It was on a non playing sabbatic and he's still injured.
Speaker 8 (12:27):
Yeah, this is unfortunate for Scott Barrett and I'm keen
to Saly. Not really a surprise. I've been here in
the last few weeks that there had n't been all
right with that return. The Crusaders are being very careful
around the information that they did give out over that
he was due back from the sabbatical in May and
that has now been extended out and had a couple
of issues to see too. I was seeing that not
all is right, but struggle to stack it up now.
(12:49):
Rob Penny has come out it today and said it's
three to five months and that would probably rule him
out for the year, especially if it's that five month perio,
because you take five months from this specific day. It's
very late November. The All Blacks campaign ends in late November.
He's not going to jump on a play and play
the last game of the season if he's all of
a sudden fit. So it's going to be a stretch
to see him back on the rugby field this year.
(13:10):
Hopefully we get to see him maybe play a little
bit for Tartanuki and then maybe the end of year two.
If it's at that lower leend, but end of the
three to five months.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Just give him the rest of the year off.
Speaker 8 (13:20):
Right in the first half of the year off. I
think he's desperate to play rugg Blacks captain. We're talking
send to Japan. Well, this is the incumbent All Blacks
captain that we're talking about, and he wants to play rugby,
wants to be out of there on the field, and
it's been very, very frustrating, and I think we'd agree
that we didn't see the best of Scott Barrett, especially
last year, and the All Blacks people saying I was
the captaincy waiting on him. We don't know how long
(13:41):
this injury has been going around, but clearly months on
the sideline has not been able to fix this either.
So he's going to go and try and get it
treated and look ideal scenarios we see him play a
bit for Tartanuki in the NBC and then he jumps
on the big bird for the end of year two
with the All Blacks. But even at this point it
looks unlikely and you would have to say it almost
makes Dave Rennie's decision if he hasn't made it already.

Around this All Blacks captaincy a hell of a lot
easier for him.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
And Elliott Scott Barrett at his finest, absolute monster of
our play.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
We haven't seen that in quite a well but quite
a while.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
People they commediately forget when the new generation comes through.
But this guy at his peak, he's just.
Speaker 8 (14:20):
A masterpack absolutely and luckily hope we can get back
to that his best because the All Blacks need that
depth and needs him firing to win a Rugby World
Cup next year. And I'm sure he's part of regardless
of whether he's captain or not, big part of Dave
Rennie's plans to win the World Cup or try to
win the World Cup.

I've got a few, But they were talking about obviously
getting Brodie Attalic back. Remember Fabian Holland is out injured.
Haven't seen him as yet this year, but you know,
Josh Law's in playing some good rugby, Sam Dowry, Patrick
Tweep but lot too to buy Jammy and he's looking good.
But I mean we're already at a Q of four
or five, so there's there's a lot of good locks
in New Zealand and you'd probably suspect that Dowry or

maybe had the beneficiaries of moving into that all back
of the fact.

That the Locks could actually drown in the depth that
we've got, which is no mean feet because they're all
so tall.

More rugby news today, and this is around what the
Chiefs and the Hurricanes are doing. There's nothing on these
matches coming up this weekend for them any way, it's
still going to be one too regardless, So what have
they done.

The rest of them? And I completely understand it. If
I'm them, I'm resting them as well. Look, players can
get injured at any point, but do you want to
go see Ruben Love get injured in a dead rubberish game,
at least from a Hurricane suspective against the Hurricanes, because
that is going to invote questions for a Clark Ladler
of why did you play damn if you do damned
if you don't scenario and you better to take the

damned if you don't scenario and go. I'm just going
to rest all these players and keep them out of
the game this weekend. I think it's completely understandable. We're
only talking about this because it is the last round
letting into the playoffs. If they've rested all these players
for a game against more onea PACIFICA or earlier in
the season, no one cares. But it's the fact that
one they're playing the Crusaders and two they're playing on
the you know, at the end of the season.

But the Chiefs thing, haven't they and I'm sure the
Blues are thinking, hold on, this is not fair. There's
no opposition for the Crusaders. And then that both the
Blues and the Crusaders are bad.

The Chiefs.

You look at the Chiefs team and they've also rested
a whole heap of players as well. So these Blues
have been the most, probably the Hurricanes. But it's a
it's a close decision, and look, this is the way
that right because you know, you think about it, you know,
they're trying to win a title. They're not trying to
win a Round sixteen game against the Crusaders. And if
you look at it from that perspective, what's going to
be the best part the winning title was given these
players a week off, especially for the Hurricanes who haven't

had to buy, you know, for about eight weeks I
think it is now they had won in the first
start of the season then a few weeks in. This
is a long stretch for their top players. So clak
lad defend this.

Then I thought the fan was at the scenes of
the room. I thought it was about fan centricity, if
there's such a word, I thought that's what it was about.

This is this not taking away a.

Lot of the thrust from the competition by the superstars
not playing we only game.

We are only saying this because the Hurricanes are playing
the Crusaders and the Chiefs are playing the Blues and
the final round. If the Hurricanes had played the Warritors
in the final round, no one would care if they're
resting their entire players. It's only because it's a New
Zealand derby matchup that we are looking and going why
they're resting these players, Why are they not playing their
top team. It's only that factor that it's a marquee
matchup that we're talking about this. If it was another matchup,

no one would care in.

Their home games too, So there's a lot of energy
going on behind Super Rugby. Now it seems like it's
just been temporarily paused. I'm not sure, if that's so smart.

I don't Yeah, I don't buy into it. Look, I
think they're always going to rest these players. And again,
was there going to be more energy coming out of
Hurricanes Crusaders this week if the top teams played while
we saw it three weeks ago, And for the Hurricanes
they might be playing the Crusaders next week potentially as well.
So and you know the Chiefs could play the Blues.
So there is all sorts of permutations there that you
probably don't want to put your full card on the
table a week to early.

There's only one first choice player really playing in cam
