Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sports Talk podcast with Dancy Wildergrave
from News Talk s'd be.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
How big, very big. The news out of the Warriors
today made us all go star fur Jackson Ford and
he's put pen to paper. He's re signed with the
club through to twenty twenty nine. He joined us now
to discuss that decision. Welcome to the show, Jackson. How
difficult was their decision?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Now? It was an easy one for me.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
I've already well, I was already signed for next year,
so I could only really speak to the Warriors. So
it was good to get in another couple of years.
And yeah, I'm super excited for this next few years
and hopefully this.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Year is our year and we've got a few more
good years to come.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Got much of an argument around the link of the contract.
Did they offer you and you took it all the
other way around? Was there any like pulling and slapping
or anything. Not?

Speaker 4 (00:59):
Really, it was all pretty pretty easy. Happened pretty quick,
to be honest. It's probably a good time to sort
to sit down and think about it now. I'm out
for a bit with this peck injury. But yeah, it
was a pretty easy decision.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
And I'm glad you brought that up, because I didn't
want to be the media who mentioned it, and now
I can because you started. How is it? How is
your pick?

Speaker 3 (01:18):
No, it's going good. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
We've just started progressing into some more little stuff each week,
so got a little bit of a contact session now,
so I've yes, they're they're happy with it, so I
guess I'm happy as well.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
So it's gone well.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
What happened to it? To pull it off the bone
or something?

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Rugby league happened to it? I think yeah, I don't
really know. I was a bit shocked when it happened.
I was just laying there going, oh dear, what was that?
Luck I've done an AC. I've done a couple of
ACS before and had to get surgeries on them, but
that was a different one, and I don't really know
what happened to it.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Does it help when you've spent time out of the
game recovering from surgery, recovering from injury, that you've done
it before, can you work through that process a little
easier and you've experienced it?

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Yeah, like definitely. I feel like the first one was
probably the hardest.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Just mentally. I think you get better, like obviously.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
They're always going to be hard, but like just mentally
and you know what you've got to do around.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
It and stuff like that. But yeah, they're all pretty hard, but.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
You just know that the likes on the end of
the tunnel sort of thing, and it's a good way
to get your body right. In other ways, I feel
like I've had a few sort of half niggles now
and then there's good good time now to get them
all sort of get the body feeling right.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
And also to be able to relax your mind, to
not be thinking about football all of the time. That
breathing room must be hugely important for a professional player.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Yeah, and I'm probably one of those players that doesn't
like to think about footy twenty four to seven. Like
I don't sort of watch every game like some of
these halfbacks do.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
They look at Carson the ten avoids.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
But I'm sorry, as soon as the Telly comes on
and there's more rugby league and I've just been at
work all day and figuring out, you know, other team's
weaknesses and because I turned the TV off and say
I'm not watching any more rugby league after that, what.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Do you do to be honest over here? It's it's
not a bit too late for me anyway. I'm normally
snoozing by the time the rugby leagu's on.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
I feel your pain, but you have to do it.
So you're going to I believe you. You flat your
room with Cable. Is that going to carry on for
the next few years now?

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yeah? So he's been my roomy for a while now.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
I had Joshi Karen and then ever since KP come
and Joshi left, I've switched to Cakes.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
It's been good. So hopefully we can get him signed.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
To twenty and twenty nine one more year and will
Roomi's for the rest of me.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Extra time to set Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Super tough for you watching I suppose in two parts
he started off on an absolute tear. Are you up
the top of the deli him? You're playing out of
your mind and then you get injured so you can't
carry on chasing and the Warriors are heading a fantastic
season and you can't be involved in that as well.

(04:10):
How do you settle that within yourself?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Yeah, it's a bit hard, like sort of watching the
boys each week and just knowing you can't really do anything.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
It feels like you're a bit helpless in a way
where it's like.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Yeah, you keep rocking and training, they've got a bit
of excited about the wins and the losses and stuff
like you go through that with them as well. But
each week when you're sort of watching the games and
you just feel a bit helpless is probably yeah, it's
a bit hard to sort of watch, but it sort
of brings you a bit more motivation to know that,
like you want to be right when you do get.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Back on there and you can help them, So that's
sort of, yeah, what.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
The culture within the team Obviously, what Andrew Webster and
everyone else is doing has created a wonderful a culture
and experience for everybody. Guys like you were staying, other
guys are staying, so that works obviously paying off creating
this amazing space for you guys to play league.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yeah, exactly, like to build a good culture here at
the club, good group of boys, and it sort of
helps when you're winning games as well.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Everyone sort of wants to be at a team. You
don't really want to be at the bottom.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Fourteen, Like footy isn't very fun when you're I've sort
of been on the other end of it where you're
on the bottom four and you're losing a few games,
and everyone starts get a bit narky at each other.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
It's your fault, it's your fault. But at the moment
we're all sort of sort of we call it.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Rowing the walker in the same direction, so we're all
sort of heading on that nice trajectory.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
You'd be pretty pleasing, looks George anymore?

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Then?

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yeah, yeah, I sort of half what I was referring.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
About, Like there, sorry, sorry, good and help myself. Are
you a lippy kind of guy when you're watching training?
Do you like to roll in and go actually, I
saw this and you need to do this better.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Not really, I'm not sort in terms of myself, I
would be, but yeah, I'm not one to sort of
go in, you know, tell a half back that he's
done this wrong or this wrong. But if it's maybe
a forward I might, you know, just help him out
slightly to say, like, if there's a better way. I
sort of think that he's doing it, I could say something,
but yeah, normally I just sort of keep to myself

(06:14):
a little bit bit away.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
It's only one way, right, go forward, go straight, go
absolutely hard, and make sure you don't land on your back.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, that's a good way to go.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I guess that's an experience. I'm not a metal forward.
In fact, I'm hardly a player, So I should really lay.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
That on you.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
What have you seen for this team that you'd like
to not that you're going to tell them what needs
to happen to this Warriors side on Friday night? Because
it doesn't get much bigger than this. This is going
to be a massive occasion. What's the trick to victory?
Do you think?

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah, it's going to be a big occasion. You know,
top of the table. Pens will be a big tester.
It's probably a good thing we're playing at home that
we've got the home advantage.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
But I don't know, we sort of know what we
do well, we do the kick chase well, you know,
just sort of that grinding footy that we we tend
to play our best footy at. I think that's what
we've got to do. Just take them into the deep
end and try and bring them into the grind for.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
This fantastic well we're really looking forward to. It's going
to be an epic and counter it really is. And look,
I got to say this to your face, even though
you're on the telephone because I get grief for it.
I say that this weekend the Warriors need to win
on Friday night. If they can't beat the Pemouth Panthers
at home, right, they don't deserve to be in the
conversation for the top two. How are right? Am I am?

(07:33):
I just being an absolute pain in the ass.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
I think you're being a bit of a pain, but
I think I think, Yeah, everyone has their days and
I definitely know if we play our.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Best footy, we're definitely going to work beat them.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
So that's what I need to hear. Real pleasure Jackson
for thanks very much for your time. You're heal fast.
I'm looking forward to seeing you back on the park again.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Thank you, seeing mate.
