I'm doing very well. A lot to be happy about
after the second game today as opposed to being a
tad disappointed after the first game. Such a turnaround.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
It was a quality performance this afternoon.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
It was I think an important toss to win at
this venue, and I guess it's all well and good
winning the toss, but it's also I just putting a
performance on the board that you know, we're obviously happy with,
and to bowl Weston is out for just under one
forty and then I guess to be in the position
and chase at five down. You know, it was obviously

nice to be on the right side of it this
this game and obviously take all the learnings that we
had in the first game, and I guess improve on
our performance from from last time. So yeah, it was
a pretty happy camp at the moment.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
So tell us about what lessons primarily, what did you
pick up out of that first game.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Look, I think I guess from our performance it wasn't
too bad. I think from a batting point of view,
you know, we're probably in a position where we probably
should have got twenty thirty forty more. You know, we
were I think we were two hundred at forty the
forty oh mark four down, you know, so we later
reason a good platform and I think bowling secondier. It
(01:44):
tends to, I guess, get on a little bit more
than what it does in the daytime. And I think
for us to be able to take it to I
guess the last couple of overs, you know, we managed
to hang in there. But yeah, obviously bowling during the
day it is a slightly different kettle of fish. And
I guess the guys just managed to put the ball
in the right air for long periods of time, and
(02:04):
you know, it was spinning and guys those conditions really well.
And I guess Jayden Lennox was the one that you know,
managed to get the rewards today and bold beautifully and deserved.
I guess, you know, the accolades that he or the
performance and the man of the match that he got.
So it's always nice when you're able to learn from
game to game, and we certainly did that.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
But you look at Jadan Lenox and what he provided,
it's outstanding to pick up that bad because he basically
just plays cricket for New Zealand overseas, such as a
nature of being a tweaker in New Zealand. But some
of them didn't turn at all. It was just very wise.
They were nude spins, weren't they.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
I think sometimes when you come to these conditions, you
expect the balls that are going to turn are the
ones that tend to get the wickets. But ironical, it's
ironically it's the ones that sort of skid on that
tend to be the ones that you play for spin
and they don't spin. So, you know, I think when
conditions favor spinners or that all they favor seemas. I
think sometimes the expectation is there that you need to

bowl them out and you know, conditions are favorable for
spin or scene, but at the end of the day,
you still want to put the ball in the right areas.
And you still want to do that fong pre ad
of time, and you know they got up to reason
a good start, but I think we're able to pull
it back and you just keep taking wickets throughout that innings.
Was exceptional when all the four spinners really you know,
(03:23):
played a part at some point, which was great.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
If you just took a look at the car after
that first inning, you'd think that you're playing on an
absolute mine field. That wasn't necessarily the case, though, was it.
I'm talking from a perspective of someone out there listening
when it hasn't actually seen it. How did they fold
so quickly? And of course you guys did to a
degree later on the piece. What was it that was
(03:46):
so tricky about that?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
Yeah, I don't think the score is probably a reflect
I guess what the surface, you know, it certainly wasn't
a one forty all out surface.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
You know. I think even throughout our bad innings.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
You know, a couple of times we lost back to
back wickets, and I guess in a situation like that,
you know, it's the only way that you're going to
sort of, I guess, lose the game. But you know,
we got off to a reason the good start as
well with a bat which you know is really important
you're chasing a low score, and I guess just allowed
some of us just to take our time to you know,
without necessarily time pressure. It's just about batting you long
(04:25):
enough to kill the game. And you know, even we
were a little bit well be there a couple of times,
but I think the way young E started, the way
Michael brace Will come out and showed them intent to
finish the game off, it was fantastic. So yet nice,
nice to level the series and have a couple of
days off and head into the third one or at
the final game here and go on, and I'm sure
(04:46):
the surface will be reasonably similar. You know, we've seen
that over the first two games that you know, obviously
it's a little bit harder during the day, tends to
get on a little bit more at nighttime. So you know,
hopefully can keep learning from game to game and and
take I guess the learnings that we've had and into
the third game here.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Striking the balances an interesting one because on the face
of it, if you look at that run chase, you go,
we should just like stab singles around and you will
eventually get there. But you said you want to have
intent when you go in there, but you'll also go
to understand that you can't throw it all away. So
finding that balance when it comes to the way you
play an attack. Is this just something you leave to
(05:25):
the individual players? Is it something that you lord over
and go, hey, guys, we've got this game, let's not
get out of control. Didn't you know where I'm pointing
with this one.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Tom, Yeah, I think guys have their individual plans around
how they like to approach things. I think you know,
when you're god at the top of the order, you.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Know, it's about playing good cricket shots.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
You know, understanding that there's probably going to be more
dot balls in the nature of the field and then
probably more boundaries, you know, so that can sort of
swing either way whether you get off to a good
start or things are quite tight. But I guess when
situations arise, when you know, if you do lose a
couple of wickets, then it's kind of taking the ego
out of a little bit and just understanding that the
(06:06):
long you bet, you know, obviously the closer you're going
to get, and you know they will start trying things.
And that was sort of the case when I guess
man and Daryl were betting together and then Man Braces
were betting together. You know, you form a bit of
a partnership and then and then things do become a
little bit easier. So yeah, as I said, when you
(06:26):
come to a chase like that and it might be
a little bit tricky, it has taken the ego out
of a little bit, and just understanding the long gear bet,
you know, a little sort of low risk cricket is
probably more important in a situation like that, when when
the wicket's not necessarily a free flowing wicket where you
can come out and straight get one hundred from ball one,
(06:47):
So you're not nice to get across the line. And
I hope sure we can I guess do the job
again in the third game.

I would like to think, so you finish the up
short and just a we work them. Daryl Mitchell I
get heard watching again. Not there was only the second
or third time he's ever been dismissed a stumped How
feilthy is he on that one?
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, I guess that's Darrow.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
I think it's you know, one of has shot that
he likes to come down and then hit the ball
down the ground. So again, I think it's when it
comes to batting in those situations, about guys sticking to
their individual plan and still showing the intent. It's not
about going out there and just blocking the ball and hoping,
you know, you get a few runs here and there.
It's about making sure you show inten be positive and

for the balls.

In your area, then it's in your area and you
look to score.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
And unfortunately it wasn't quite there for Darryl. You know
this game, but you understand and the way that he
played in the last game, he played beautifully and it's
a format that he loves, a format that he does
so well. And he's been so critical for us, you know,
coming in at number four. So again, all of us
that is that they had the opportunity about today will
take I guess the learnings you know from that surface

and take that into the next game.

Man, I'm still smiling over what I saw through the
middle of the night, lucky enough to be in and
out of sleep after my surgery, watched so much of
that Third Test. That inning from Darryl Mitchell in the
face of the English was extraordinary. I expect he's still
got the bruises. Now, what an absolute titan, Tom.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Yeah, Yeah, obviously moving back a work, it was obviously
a really special week for you for the Test team,
and I guess, you know, he was a garrel. Was
obviously a massive part of that third innings. You know,
just again kind of what I said before and taking
the year Goo out of it and I'm kind of
playing what's in front of you and and you know,
doing what's required for the team. And you know, that
(08:41):
was a just a really good example of Test cricket
when you know it's not that easy and you just
sort of guts it down and get through it.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
And you know, obviously played such an important role for us.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
In that third innings to give us a total that
you know, you know, gave us a really good chance
of defending.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
And it was.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Obviously a really special week for us. There's that went
on throughout that third fourth day, but I guess the
very hope to come back and and just just play
our style for pretty much all five days was obviously
really rewarding. So it was a nice test and a
nice way to finish that tour.
