Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waltergrave from News Talks' be Elliburton Shield.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Now that taught. We're talking two games at the same
venue over the weekend. That's the Eden Park Outer Oval.
The Hearts will be taking on the Central Hinesbury Elling
joins us now from the Auckland side that hopes to
terrorize central districts. Good morning, Bree.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Good morning Darcy. Pleasure to be here.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, great to have you. That's what your quicks do,
right you You terrorize the opposition. That's your drive. Tell
me that's true.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yes, it's part of it. It's all a game, big gamer,
isn't it. They try whack us where we try bowl.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Them over way. Yeah, and that's the challenge there. But
that's the joy and what you do, the inherent nature
of competition.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yet, yes, that is very true.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
So what have we got up against Central? Those the
hines are Well, you're pretty much neck and neck in
the competition table, aren't you, So this should be tight.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yeah. They're very strong side, a lot of a lot
of up and coming white firm and current white friends
on their side. So it's going to be a tough contest.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
You're a white fan yourself. You've been playing for just
over a year now, so does that just add a
bit more tension knowing these players and knowing that you
know each other in the sheds at the next level up.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Oh, you know, we get go at each other on
the field, but it's all fun and games at the
end of the day. We have a couple of laughs
off the field as well.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, but can't tell me there's got to be There's
got to be something in there. I mean, there must
be some player out there that you can you can
be polite about, but you look and you go, I've
got you coin. There's got to be a bit of tension,
doesn't there, Bri.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
I'm happy with any wicked I take. I'm more excited
up top, but I'm still happy to clean up the tail.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Okay, But there's no there's no like particular player that
you've really got it in for you. Maybe you've you've
played against for many many years through different grades. I'm
just trying to get some dirt out of here, Bree.
Can't give me some scandal in CD.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I wouldn't say there's any particular player that gets me
that wound up.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Right, Okay, you're far too calm for you're not a
fast baller. You hand in your fast bowling card for
that as well. Yeah, he had a great year last
year debuting for New Zealand. How well do you think
you've gone at that higher level beyond what three or
four years playing at this domestic level.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Well, it was definitely definitely a new challenge, but I
welcome it and it's been exciting and the girls are
so supportive, so I just keep going.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Who do you look to for advice for inspiration as
you were growing up through your teams? And now do
you have a hero that you play with or play against?

Speaker 3 (02:42):
I mean my idol is Trembolt because he was the
first left arm pace bowler that I knew in cricket,
in cricket in general and in New Zealand. But within
like the White Fern's team, I'm close with all my
quicks like Rosemarie Mayor who's in CD, and Hannah Rowe
also on CD.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
He's saved.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Also Molly Penfold who plays with me at home.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Right, So there's a lot of around that. When when
you say quick, you're not talking Trent Bolt quick, Well,
what are we looking at? Pace wise in the women's
version of the game. For the white Hanna, what's the
kind of level you're looking at here speed wise.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Bree Ah, when we got last time I got speed
gun was at the World Cup in India and we
were clocking at speeds of like one fifteen, one eighteen.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Okay, And that's what sits and that becomes difficult to play.
Is it's hard. You can't really measure the blokes versus
the women. It's a very it's a different style of game,
different strengths and weaknesses.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Yeah, it's a very different game.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
I think it's a wonderful game because you look at
the way the game is played. It's not based on
brute's strength. It's a lot more skill based, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
It's a lot more about finessing the ball, finding the
gaps versus the boys that just go swinging for the
hills and top edge it for six every ball.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
All that kind of makes a bit more sense. Women
are definitely the more subtle of the genders.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Are they not a little bit more brains think about
what they're about to do.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I wouldn't say that I'm not going to fight against
my own type. That's he can tell us about CD
What do you know about them? What do you like
to look for with them?

Speaker 3 (04:13):
They have got a great opening pace bowlers, but they're
bad as they're really good at rotating the stripe. There's
a couple of niggli ones that really love playing squares,
so we can't be dropping it too short. But as
long as long as our pace attack and bowling attacks
Auckland hold the usual stump line and throw on a
couple of variations, a couple of short balls will be

(04:33):
will be good.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Your own personal form, where do you need to lift
and improve? Plainly, you're in a good trajetary because you're
playing internationally now and that's what you wanted to do
when you started. But always looking at tweaks and adjustments,
were can you get stronger break?

Speaker 3 (04:46):
For me, it's always just consistency, like how often can
I bowl that perfect ball? That ball I'm really happy
with that is so hard to play?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
And what does that normally look like? Do you have
a strength at any particular length or a line at all.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
It's probably a good length swinging in a off middle stump.
It would probably be the perfect ball for me top
of off.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
And what about your batting. Do you spend much time with.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
A willow plenty in the nets? Don't really showcase it
in the middle too much. I back my top order
to carry the bat, but I'm always happy to be
out there have a swing.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah. Well, your job is to take the wickets, right,
It's their job to pick all the runs up.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, looking.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Forward to it should be a great weekend. You've got
two games on the bounce Eden Park. Outer Oval, the
electronic turd, the EP as I used to call it,
Although Kennard's higher, it's there outter Oval. I shouldn't really
insult that. Thanks very much for joining us, Elliott. It's
been a real pleasure to get out there and cause chaos.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
