Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from Used Talk sedb.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
UFC down Under this weekend Fight Night in Perth later tonight,
and there'll be a raft of city kickboxing fighters competing
at the event. Fresh off a round two knockout in
Sydney in January, Australian that Cam Rouson will be fighting
again down Under this weekend, and he joins us, now
I'm in a cam Hey, thanks for coming along. We're
(00:32):
claiming you as our own. Now, bro, do you feel
like a KeyWe now that you're training at c KB.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
But you know, I don't think my mum would be
very happy to hear that that I've been claimed As
with Kiwi, I do. I have adopted a lot of
the Kiwi cultures, such as pre training meat pies that's
that's a big thing, and just wearing jandles and thongs
and sandals no matter the weather.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
So I think I'm part Kewe now for sure?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Do you say year Na, No, I'm still I still
got a few Australian linguos.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I like to hold on to big fight for you.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
On the other side of Australia, you're over in Perth
in a fight night. You've been rolling pretty well. You
had a successful fight, what was it, early February, so
you'll be in a good space right now turning fights
over because you fought what late last year too, didn't you, Cameron?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Yeah, My debut was last year at the end of
September here in Perth, and then pretty much took about
a month off till I started training again for the
fight the start of February in Sydney, and then I
had a week off until I had to get back
into the gym and start training for this one.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
So just kept this train rolling.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Where do you sit relatively in the middleweight ranks?
Speaker 4 (01:49):
I'm currently unranked?
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Is there are plenty of pundits online who have their
own unofficial rankings of the sixty or fifty or so middleweights,
and I don't know where I sit in that, but
it's outside of the top fifteen.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
But who knows.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
After this fight, I could be looking at potentially banging
my way into the top fifteen.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
And so I see, relatively, if you look across the
entire division, where do you rank yourself, even though there's
nothing official around it? Where do you sit from what
you've seen and what you know, Cam.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
If we just go based off objective criteria, based on
who I fought, I would say top twenty five.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
But subjective criteria.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
If I'm looking at the top fifteen and I'm thinking
the guys that I can beat, I'm saying, yeah, I'm
in that top fifteen for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
What is the unpronounceable Polish fighter have on boll What
does he bring to the octagon? And I say I'm
pronounceable because there's a couple of ways. You've got a
Polish mate who said one thing and you believe it's another.
Who are you scraping?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I'm fighting Robert Prichessick or Brightchick, depending on who you ask. Yeah,
he's a bit of a terminator, you know. He's got
Polish power. Polish power is definitely a real thing. He's
eighteen wins, thirteen of those are KO and he just
comes forward. He's a bloke who who has a once
(03:12):
he gets going coming forwards, that's when he builds up
his steam in his momentum and he does his best
work very clean, efficient boxing. So he's going to be
throwing those Polish power hands at me and I'm just
going to have to make sure that I meet him
in the middle and stop him from coming forwards.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
How tiled is your plan to what you'd expect from him?
Can you actually replicate or can you put a plan
in place specifically for him? Or do you have to
be I suppose reasonably agile and able to pivot depending
on what he brings to the octagon.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, well, I mean I can definitely put a plan
in place. I have to be perfect for fifteen minutes
when I'm fighting this guy.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
But I have a plan, A a plan being a
plan ste so I've got a few I can fall
back on.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Do you want to tell me one of the plans?
Do you have to tell me if it's a B
or C? He just let me know. I'm sure it's
not listening.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Oh, the plan is basically just you know, he's from
the fights that I've watched and my coaches have watched. He,
like I said, he needs to come forwards. He needs
to bully people, and just the plan is to not
let him bully me.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
And you're I think you're got slightly more reach. You're
a wee bit tall or roughly the same weight. There's
there's not a lot of difference in both of your
body types here.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
No, we're pretty we're pretty similar.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
I think I got two inches of hard on him
and about four centimeters of reach, but we're yeah, that's
very very small differences when we're in there.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Hey, you've got a whole crew over with a UFC crew.
They all turned up.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah, yeah, we're rolling pretty deep for this one. We've
got Brando the Balkanbert. He just fought on London the
end of March, so he pretty much rolled straight straight
into this one. We've got Benny Johnson who's from based
in Brisbane, but he comes over to City Kickboxing sometimes
to train with us. He's making his UFC debut, and
(05:00):
we have on an extremely late call up less than
a week.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
I think it was about five days.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Notice, we have a young Olie Schmid who trains out
of City Kickboxing, very very promising young featherweight. He got
as I said, he got the call up six days
ago and he's going to be making his UFC debut
as well. Four of us, and yeah, there's four of us,
and we've got about the support crew over here. We've
probably got about six totals. Yeah, so there's ten ten
(05:29):
of us rolling through here. It's quite a logistical effort.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
And you'd all be feeling pretty upbeat after what happened
last time the crew went on tour and watched Black
Jag and what he got up to. I'm still watching
that flight camera, still work out what happened.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Oh yeah, we're man that win from Auberg just like
it was just like a shot of energy, a shot
of adrenaline into the gym.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
You know, everyone's just people are still buzzing off it.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
We've got people coming because the belt is at the
gym now, We've got people coming in taking photos of
the belt, and we have the belt like hanging up
on the wall right next to the training mat. So
you know, we're as we're grinding away, we're looking at
the belt getting a.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Little bit of inspiration for the training and stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
It's amazing and cam Ran Rustin is going to be fighting.
It's the last fight, and the prelimbs get amongst take
a look, and we're looking forward to big things. Maybe
you know, not a TK knockout like you've had for
you a lot what your last three major fights, So
you know, I get the job done.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Yeah, that's it. Just got to go out there and
get that win.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
