Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
We go to the a leg Auckland FC back in
action tomorrow afternoon. The Newcastle Jets are in their cross
hairs at Mount Smart Stadium, looking for a much stronger performance.
You'd say a stumble and that's probably fair one all
draw against Brisbane last weekend. Still undefeated. They're looking to
carry that on, but maybe this time with a win,
(00:33):
not a draw. Dan Haul a defender for Auckland, he
joins us now to discuss the match.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Good morning dand morning morning. Thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Always good to have you on. So tomorrow afternoon, what
three o'clock things kick off? Tell us about your master
plan because I'm still filthy at you guys drawing last
week and costing me my MAULTI how dare you?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Oh yeah, well, apologies about that, but hopefully we can
rectify it come tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Well hopefully so walking and tell us about the Jets
and what they're going to bring to the pitch.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yeah, obviously the Jets are. They've scored a lot of
goals and are a good side, so you know we're
not taking them lately we're taking every game like it's
a top of the league clash, So we're looking forward
to getting out there tomorrow and putting on a good
show for the fans.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
So what did you pick up from last week? Is
there any particular lesson that you need to carry and
carry through to this match besides the fact you should
probably win but you didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yeah, I think obviously we were disappointed with the draw.
I think you know, as a team, we don't weren't
happy with how we played, and we want to go
out there and improve this week, and I think come
tomorrow we'll be firing to go and get the three
points and put on a better performance.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
What part of your performance we are not happy with?
Was there any aspect of what you did that maybe
Steve Caracas be going not on my watch boys?
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Yeah, of course, I mean for starters, you know, we
didn't score more goals than the other team, so we draw.
That's obviously a good starting point. But obviously as a performance,
I feel like some of our characteristics. You know, we're
a very physical team. I think we didn't really show
that last weekend. But we're here to do better this week.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
How does that sit with you through the week you
as a as a professional Dan, when you know that
you haven't given it everything you could have done, or
it hasn't applied properly. Are you the kind of guy
who stews over it? You're good at letting it go.
How do you react to that in your own build up?
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah? I think the good thing about you know, the
season is you always got a game that week after,
so obviously it's a lot of disappointment during the week.
It obviously could have been worse. We could have lost,
but a draw for us does feel like a loss sometime.
So we're just looking forward to you know, we couldn't
can't wait to get out there and rectify what went
wrong last week.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
So that's what you focus on, fully turning around, no
revision mirrors.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah, yeah, I think so. You know, our model at
the club is always advanced, never retreat, so something like
that will hopefully do as well, I hope.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
So what about the rest of the players. You guys
are running a fully foot squad.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Yeah, we're we're getting closer. We're getting closer. Obviously. Our
captain Hirokis is almost back from injury, I think, so
he's doing all his recovery and everything to get back
as quick as possible. But besides that, we're without a few,
maybe a few players. I can't give too much away,
but yeah, you look where whatever team goes out on
the day will do their best to get the three points.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
It's good to hear about a rogie. What was the injury?
He is he like repairing himself quicker than you thought.
I think he'd be back this earlier. He might be
around maybe next week.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. Obviously I don't have my
physio degree, but come on, hopefully, hopefully a couple of
weeks is what I'm assuming. You know, he looks good
in training in his rehubs, so yeah, I can't wait
for him to.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Be back and off the park and not involved by
presuming he's still boots and all. He's still in there
as you cat and even though he hasn't laced up.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Yeah, of course, he's in every day, very supportive and
gives guidance when you ask, and you know, just the
top person good.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
That's what we'd like to hear. And on the crowds coming,
because you expect a big home crowd, are you feeling
the same energy when you're playing in front of the
port and everyone else involved. You're still feeling that same
from last season where it was basically five it wasn't
all your home games.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
Yeah, for sure. I think you know, the port and
all the Auckland fans that come out and back the
team each week, it's greatly appreciated and you definitely feel
that on the pitch. So we're just hoping to keep
packing out the stands and putting on the good show
for everyone that comes out.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
You won't tell me too much about playing staff. You're
going to not change the way your formations, are still
going to bring this Auckland if C style to the game.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah, I think so. Obviously. Once again, you know, I'm
not a physio or a coach, so I'm just a player.
So obviously whatever the coach says is what we're going
to try and follow through with. So hopefully come tomorrow
that's going to be three points.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I don't like the way you say I'm just a player.
Come on, Dan, you got to bake yourself more than that,
don't you.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Oh maybe it's just humble, humble, humble?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Is there anyone in the side you can really drop
someone up? Right now? If you want to, is anyone
on the side that really isn't humble at all?
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Not humble at all. No, I think that most of
the team is maybe our goalkeeper coach Jonathan good you know,
he seems like quite a confident guy. I've seen him
in the gym quite often, so yeah, But besides that,
everyone's pretty humble. You know, Sam Coll's got Jake Goodwood, right,
they're also very humble players just off the top of
my head. But you know, the team's humble team and
you can't wait to get going to tomorrow.
