Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB Football We Go.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Now, Auckland def C done a bit of form over
recent weeks. They absolutely demolished the Wellington Phoenix five zip
three zip win over Melbourne City to boot and tomorrow
and they're taking on the Perth Glory team that beat
them earlier in the year. We're joined now by Jake
gerbwood Reich and Lucky Brook to members of the side.
(00:34):
Hey guys, so welcome on and you're both new to
the team having signed up earlier this year, and so
Jake will start with you. How have you integrated with
Auckland df C. Are you finding a good time here?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, obviously, you know it helps us doing well this
season as well. For me when I walked in for
the first time, it was probably the easiest place for
me to fit in in my career. So the boys
are really tired.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
What made it so attractive to you? What did they do?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
I mean the boys cuddle. I mean obviously they did
really well last year, so I think you know, they
were just going off that as well, and they were
really close groups, so you know, fitting in was actually
very very easy for me.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Luck he was at the coach of the deal as well.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Yeah, very similar, definitely. You know, when you come to
a new club sometimes it can be a bit, a
bit of a transition. But honestly, within a week I
felt like I've been there for a while. So I
think that's credit to the to the club and the
and the staff and the boys. But I think that
shows right with the success that I've had last year,
and you know the success we're having this year as well.
(01:35):
Obviously not top but not far off it, so.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
You're only just out. The thing is he seid success
this year, mercurial up and down. It's a very odd
season for the entire club. What do you put that
down to?
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Not sure?
Speaker 4 (01:50):
To be honest, football is a weird game. I think
sometimes maybe we haven't had the rubb of the green
and some games, you know, games where we've done well
but not come away with points. So I think there's
only been one game really where we've sort of not
stole a win gotten lucky with a win. So yeah,
but you know, like I said, second place, it's not
(02:11):
it's not a terrible spot to be in. And obviously
with the last two games, gaining a lot of momentum
now going into the finals and going into the last
what is it six games six seven?
Speaker 2 (02:23):
You know where you're playing, it's three o'clock. It's it
at home against Perth. That's all you need.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Just go week to eat mate, that's all.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah, it's been good, Jake.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
You want to replicate the form of the derby which
was terrifying for the Wellington Phoenix leet's face it can
you get close to doing a similar thing if everything clicks?
Did you get a sniff that things were Actually it
was more like a tsunami than a game.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah, I think actually before this game actually happened, we
really wanted to win by a big margin. I think
we were only winning by one or two goals the
whole season and to do it against our rivals in
their place was honestly a really good feeling. So yeah,
we definitely want to get another big win. But again
we're in the last few games we've got. We've called
eight and zero against so I hope we can continue that.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
What do you feel lucky about Perth because they've come
from the other side of the planet pretty much they
have no leagues or will.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
They to be fair to them. They're a good side.
They're a side that are you know, quite unpredictable, to
be honest. So I think any team in the A
League isn't isn't an easy game. I think you know,
if you look at the table, it's I mean it's
pretty close all the way through. You've had teams that
have had good, good runs and then have dipped. So yeah, obviously,
you know, I'm sure there'll be some sort of fatigue there.
(03:40):
But you know, in the end of the day, there
professional athletes. We've done it before, you know, we do
it a lot, to be honest. To travel for us
is you know, it's quite intense, so it's, you know,
something we're used to, so maybe they're not. But yeah,
obviously something to take advantage of as well.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Give us a scene. Since Jake of Steve Kurriker your geffer,
what's he like to you?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Just like really sure?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
How would you summarize him? Careful?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
I'll say one, we're very passionate.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, I've seen him on the sideline. They all Harvey Scaffers,
aren't they. It's part of their makeup, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, Yeah, he's a winner, so yeah, he definitely shows
that and his CV speaks for himself.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Lucky, same question for you.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Work hard, that's his main, his main sort of thing.
I think if you look at the way that we play,
and I mean if you spend a week with us
at training, you'd see that we we do work very hard.
I don't think I've been at a club where I've
worked this hard. To be fair, what you no, Yeah,
this is definitely the work very hard. But obviously you know,
in the end of the day we reap the rewards
from it. I think most of our games are always
(04:42):
looking like our players are running around a lot, and
you know, especially coming to the end of the season,
I think that's going to be really important.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
I didn't even want to watch your training then give
me the stitch. I couldn't deal with things like that. Hey,
Jake and Lockey, thanks so much for joining us in studio.
Go hard, get involved, bring home the points, and big
kind to your boss.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
We'll thank you, Matte.
