Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk sedb.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Aukland FC put on a stunning statement performance last week
and then he's said on Derby against the Phoenix five
zip winners, yikes. Auckland back this weekend and taking on
Melbourne City later today. Jesse Randall he is a strike
force for Auckland FC. That he managed to pick up
(00:34):
a couple of goals against the hapless Phoenix. He's scored
the joint most goals in the A League season. That's
so far, and he joins us now, good morning, Jesse.
How good was last week? Bro?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Pretty special? It was a big day for the football club.
You know, I think to win against the Phoenix at
any time and under you know that any school line
is good, but to win five now and put a
real statement out there was pretty epicure.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
You wouldn't read about it, would you. Really? That score
line was outrageous and you contribute to that. You picked
yourself up a brace and they were a couple of
storming strikes went. I mean I expect that Phoenix was
still a little rocked back on their feet after that
goalkeeping disaster and you made the most of it. Was
that the feeling out there were they rocked when you
(01:27):
did score? Was it thirty thirty one minutes or something?
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Yeah, I mean I think the game was pretty in
the balance until that, until that era from the goalkeeper,
and I think we kind of picked up on you know,
we got more energy from that, I guess, and kind
of started to find our feet a bit more, got
more confidence, and then as soon as we scored the
second I think it was pretty hard, pretty hard for
(01:52):
them to stop us once once their heads went down.
You know. I think you kind of also look back
on previous results and they haven't haven't been us, So
when you go down to a team they haven't been,
it's pretty pretty tough comeback from.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I think it was a.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Storm of a strike that first goal of yours. So
you just talk us through the process when you got
us the top corner the box that you took it
after the ball came in from from a throwing you
just let it rip. Was that the thought process there?
Just strike and see yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, well we like to switch it off a bit.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
Sometimes we like to put the ball into the box
and Friandi has a big, long throw that you can
do that do that with so we kind of switched
up it. I ran out and kind of offered myself
there and no one really came with me apart from
one other player, so friendly, and I just worked it
pretty well and I ended up getting myself free, which
which led to just to strike. I thought, let's just
(02:45):
get good contact on the ball and aim for that
far corner and it could hit anyone and go anywhere,
and I think I was pretty lucky that it missed
everyone in the end for it, and that was good.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Second goal was pretty sharp as well. Similar kind of position,
slightly different, but not off off a throwing but you
blaze that too. You were striking it really well, which
is of no surprise because what you sitting right at
the top of the golden boot at you, So you're
definitely in touch with your foot.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Yeah yeah, I think so. Kind of got that confidence
now in front of goal. I think now it's time
just to just to keep it going and use that
momentum from last week's game and take it into this
next one against City.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Dundee must be stoked. Are you going out to play
football for a couple of years at the end of
this season. Have you heard from them? Are their fans
already shouting?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
I'm not sure about their fans.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Yeah, kind of just focus on the now and I'm
not sure what's out there in the media. But yeah,
I'm just happy to be doing really well here at
the moment.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
You don't know what's out there in the media. What
you don't listen to us, you don't read about us.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Come on, mate, Nah, I think it's better for me
just to focus on my foot and not get too
caught up on other things.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, tell us.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
About the reset before Melbourne City. You can sit around
and you can smile all you want about a five
zero win, but that's it's history, it's fish and chip paper,
doesn't matter. What now, what Steve Kak had been talking about,
what you're going to put down up against Melbourne and Home.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah, I think we can.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
What we can do from last week is just take
confidence out of it and know we're in good form
and no, we can take that into into the next game.
But you know, we have our processes that we will
work on throughout the week and we you know, prepare
for melbourn City and what they bring to the table,
just like we do with any other team. Most teams
(04:36):
are you know, slightly different. So yeah, we kind of
just look what they've got and and you know, have
a little reset in training and start to focus bring
our focus onto them rather than keeping it you know
on the weekend that's past.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Have you been doing your homework? What are they threatened with?
What do you have to get through to carry on
your goal scoring freakishness?
Speaker 4 (04:58):
I think just continue well for me, you know, as
on personal level, just you know, stay focused, and you know,
I'll analyze them and see where I think I can
get a lot of joy. But then also we do
so much analysis as a team, seeing what their threats are.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
And yeah, I mean they've.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Got obviously very good players, but I think what will
help us is just sticking to what we're so good
at as well and just bringing that hard work into
the weekend.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
You expecting anyone back or has anyone disappeared off the
team sheet?
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Oh I'm not too sure.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
We'll see how how boys pull up over the next
the next few days, but I'm unsure.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Sorry, Yeah, Gilmo may make get him back involved again.
He was a core over the weekend too, and he's
quite happy playing against Melbourne one last thing, Jesse. Randal
thinks so much for joining us. As always, Jesse, people
are tired of me talking about this sort of time
and I'm not going to start playing with joy if
that's what it's about. And you're obviously extraordinarily happy about
(05:57):
where you're, where you sit. It's that important part of
the way you play the game with a smile.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yeah, one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
I think when I'm having fun and enjoying my things
just come naturally, and it's something.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
You don't you don't tend to offer me.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
I don't tend to think about think about things too
much and overthink. It's just instinct takes over and that's
when I feel like I play my best football and
that's when I'm happy.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
So yeah, it's going really well.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
That that's when the fans are happy as well. Hey, Jesse,
thanks very much for joining us. Mate, you have a
cracker of an afternoon. Get in there and yeah, get
it in the back of the old onion bag.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Go well, cheers, mate, I appreciate it.
