Against the All Sport Breakfast with Darcy Waldegrave, News Talks EDB.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Eighteen minutes to a talking ain Z at Nepple Premiership.
Now on the program Northern Mystics. There are traveling to
tet up at Arena and what he do with this
evenings take on the Central Pulse. So joining us now
to discuss that a fixture is goal shoot and all
around grand athlete. Great Lady Maya Wilson, she joins us

(00:43):
now are Mario Maya?

Speaker 1 (00:46):
What in that?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Darcy?

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Thank you for having me on today and thanks for
joining us. A massive day or maybe understatement, every time
you suit up and play for the Mystics. It's a
massive day. And there's no more game more or less important?

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Is there?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
No exactly And it's the best of the week game
that you preyer and train your absolute bums off all
week to play one sixty minute game on Saturday or Sunday.
So really looking forward to heading down south to Wellington
to play the Pulse and see what we got?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
What have you got? How do you rate yourself in
the way you're tracking so far? I mean, you had
a good win last week, didn't you up against a
mild stomping around down in christ yet so you're shaping
reasonably well, do you think? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:32):
I definitely think we do. We've had both of our
centers out for the first pretty much the first two
and a half rounds, obviously with injury. So normally when
you take one starting player off the court, you can
find a way to figure that out. But when you
take two of them, or the main center and the backup,
it can show a few holes. So we've been working

(01:54):
our way through with our different training partners, playing in
different positions, and still trying to find our feet in
a fairly new attacking in with the addition of myself
in the mis sixth line. But I feel like last
week finally had all hands on deck and really starting
to find ourselves.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
You're away from home. This is not usual for the Mystics.
Over the last few weeks. You've very much been on
the own nine, haven't you.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yeah, pretty much apart from one trip to Todongo, which
is a short drive from Auckland, it's pretty much been
Auckland rivalries or at home games. So the best thing
about going away and having you get on the plane
is you spend a lot more time with your teammates.
So we obviously traveled yesterday on Friday, playing tonight at seven,

(02:38):
and then we get that time tonight before we fly
back home on Sunday. It's a real good time to
build those continue to build connections and work on the camaraderie.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
And it's on short term. It's not like you're going away
and you go to room with someone for a couple
of weeks, because that could have the opposite effect. You
can have it sick to death of them at the
end of it.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, exactly. We all we all actually find it fun.
Some We have one person in our team who's a mum,
so she actually looks forward to awake because she can
prioritize their sleep and feel like all her focus is
in camp. So and then the rest of us we
love playing board games and card games at meal times
and it's just a really nice way to connect.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Hold on. So you're telling me your analog that I
love the sound of this. I take my daughter up
to the local and Titangi and we would play board
games and cards, and kids on their computers would look
at us like, what are you doing. It's like it's
called analog. It's old school. I love the sound of
this mine. This is brilliant.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah, we've got a whole like bag full of games.
So there's like Banana Grams and spot It and Phase
ten and so many different varieties of games. At every
meal time that comes out, or sometimes when you're away
and you're a bit bored and you don't want to
be on a device, you're spending time with people and

(03:57):
in particular sporting environments, and at this level, we're very
competitive people. So any chance we can get one up
on one of our teammates, every one loves beasting Petits
or the other and our team because she's super super competitive,
So whenever I win, I never let her forget that
I've won.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Let's say she's right at the top of the tree,
you're close. Who else is actually ruining on the analog department?

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Well, it changes depending at meal times. Even when we
have home games, Like depending on where you sit, you
sort of play with games of people that you're sitting with.
So I'm not sure where we're going in the rankings,
But sometimes we're like drawing blood. We're so excited and
competitive enough we want to topple each other.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
What did you guys learn out of the tactics game?
Maybe you managed to beat them by nine or ten
goals and you kind of almost ran away in the
last half. Is that necessarily good for your prep for
this game? Can you pull anything out of that?

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:57):
I think for us, like I said, it was the
first time that we had all ten of our contracted
squad available to play at least half a game, which
was such a plus for us. We were really proud of.
It was a tight contest in particular in the first half,
but in the second half we were able to put
our foot on the throttle and just grind out the win.

(05:18):
And obviously the Tacboks were without captain Erickhanna Petterson and
then mid court, which is a huge who has a
huge influence on that side, So it was something that
we were aware of, but we were more just focusing
on our own our patterns, our cues and how we
were going to continue to build.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
It's something that the Poles do really well. They're quite
good at collecting bonus points for that very reason. Just
a final point as well, Mina Wilson, thanks as always
for joining us here. You're chasing consecutive wins for the
first time this year, so that consistency here after and
how much you're leaning on Taylor Earl. She's celebrating a ton,
isn't she.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Yeah, it's so cool for Tays. Like she said, she's
finally getting her hundredth match. Prior to being out in
the first couple of weeks, her and I were supposed
to share her hundreds and my one hundred and fiftious
match together, so obviously things didn't plan out their way
that she wanted them to, but to finally get her

(06:18):
out on the court, obviously we're traveling away. We're just
excited to make this experience a really good one. We
haven't traditionally been great at winning milestone games, but I
feel like we were able to kick that on its
head last week when we won and Petter received her
one hundred and fiftius National Netball League match. So looking
forward to a tight tussle, but we're here to win

(06:40):
and our eyes and just making sure that we do.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Our own jobs.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
