The NRLW Warriors had a bit of a stumble last weekend, losing 42-16 to the Raiders in their second Premiership clash.

Tonight they have their first hit out at Mt Smart Stadium, taking on the Cowboys from 5:15pm.

Mya Hill-Moana, prop for the Warriors, joined D’Arcy to preview the clash and chat about her move to the squad from the Roosters.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Waldgrave from News Talk SEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
The Warriors. Why he nay they got beat last week
forty two sixteen by the Raiders. That tonight though, I
first head out at Mount Smart Study and they take
on the Cowboys at Maiahil Mawana, a prop for the Wars.
She joins us now to Marii Amaya.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
What in a shelder and.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Thanks very much for joining us at to Marii A
t you as well. That another great fixture for this
Warrior's side. And of course you join them now after
four years at the roosters and title favorites. Maybe that's
a bit too much, but how are you enjoying being
part of this new squad? Is this working for you?

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yes, it absolutely is. You know, coming back from having
my son bringing him home and getting him immersed in
the culture here back at home and bringing him into
our squad. You know, they're wrapping around making me feel
a part of the team, which is so great.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I like the way you start off with that so plainly.
Time spent, funnel involved is very very important to you
and the wider team.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yet, yes, one thing our coach Ron has instilled in
us is always bring your family along. You know, they're
a part of our journey as well. So having that
is a little bit more comforting for me having my
son and all my family here as well.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Did anyone really enjoy looking after your son while you
were taking the big hits or did you just let
him rhyam around on the sideline?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
I know at training he's at home getting you know,
passed around to all my family members. But at the game, yep,
he's up in the crowds with my family and that
training all the girls love him. You know. I never
get to hold him at training, which is a good
thing for me as well, but also for him getting
around to get to know everybody. So it's cool.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Tell us about the transition from the Sydney Club back
over to here and what the big differences are. What
have you noticed in that and the setup and the
attitude and the coaching stuff and so and so on
and so forth. How much has it altered from your
time over in New South Wales.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I think just the culture difference here. We really really
immerse ourself in, you know, tew Malory, so being Maldy myself,
it's kind of just aligned with all my values that
I stand by, So that will be my major difference.
I really really loved it at this in their resig
you know, they cared for me. That's my home away
from home, and that was my first family being over

(02:35):
in Australia as an eighteen year old girl. So yeah,
that will probably be the major difference, just coming home
and being immersed in my own culture.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
You say, in the Maori culture. But this is a
multicultural team You've got Mary. Someone list goes on, is
it all falling under a similar kind of umbrella? Mine?

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah, I feel like, you know, all specific cultures kind
of have the same core values. So everyone, you know,
with a different ethnicities, Oh my god, what a hard
You know, we all still come together and we all
still have those same values.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
And that's that's really important. I think the most teams,
regardless male or female, starting to rely on that for
their internal structure, which brings a lot of depth and
a lot of care I suppose to what they're doing
out there in the park. And that sounds a bit
woo woo from way back in the day, But that's
a huge important now, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Oh? One hundred percent? What you create off the field
is one hundred percent going to show on the field.
That's what I feel in your way, So creating off
field culture and knowing that we all come from the
core same core values is really special.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Tell us about the acceleration of rugby league for the
Wahana and how that's working, because slowly, matually it's getting
stronger and bigger and more relevant. And you've been there
for the last few years. What have you noticed in
the explosion of the of the women's game.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Now us females, we are getting stronger and stronger every year.
The generations that are coming through are so skillful, and
I think a lot of the young girls nowadays are
just going full throttle into it and taking every opportunity
that they can and it is helping our our game
grow a lot stronger.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Which is me, What do you bring to that? I mean,
you're still a relatively young woman, but you've had you've
had big experience. So what do you carry What are
your responsibilities in the space do you think? Maya?

Speaker 3 (04:32):
I think for me being here at the Warriors is
just instilling that and the young girls here knowing that
there is a pathway for girls here for myself. My
experience was I had to go to another country, be
away from my family, sacrifice a lot, whereas now having
a team here back at home, a lot of the
girls have more support around them to be able to

(04:54):
strive to be at the best, you know. So I
feel like I'm a person that can advocate for us
flacking their molding or just whacking their tour here in
New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
You've got off to a start one in one setting
eighth on the table. I mentioned before possibly your title favorites,
and I think I've got a smirk out of that
one there. But you must feel you're finding positive about
the future and what this team of bringing to the park.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
You know, we started off good with the Bulldogs and
last week's game, you know, we'll leave that in the past.
You know, sometimes we had those games where not everything
is going our way, but we take everything from that
game where we need to learn, and then we'll imply
it into the next game so we don't fall back.

(05:45):
But going forward, I think that the team that we
will put out week ti and week out will be
our strongest team and will take any team on that
comes our.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Eight get out there and destroy the cowgirls for it's
been a real pleasure my Helmajana. Thank you very much
for your time in the corridor or catch up again scene,
I'm sure

Speaker 1 (06:04):
No, thank you so much for having For more from
