The Breakers could still earn a basketball prize this season when they face the Adelaide 36ers in Sunday's Ignite Cup final on the Gold Coast.

They ended the ANBL regular competition in seventh after beating the ninth-placed Taipans 115-84 in their final match.

The Ignite Cup took place throughout the regular season, and there are some serious cash prizes on the line.

Parker Jackson-Cartwright, point guard for the Breakers, joined D’Arcy to discuss the game.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the All Sport Breakfast podcast with Darcy
Wildgrave from News Talks' b.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Raig is now though on the All Sport Breakfast finished
their NBL season our Thursday night. They didn't made the playoffs,
but they smashed the type ins, which is nice. They've
got one game to go. It's the Ignite Cup Final
against the Adelaide thirty sixers and there's a wee bit
of money on the line. We go to the man
of the medal. Now who delivers everything, Parker Jackson cart Right,

(00:38):
You're the pivot of the team, right. That's not unfair
to say that, is it.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yeah, well, thank you. I mean, at least I got
to be being one of the leaders of this team.
It's my job to steer the ship in the right
direction as best as I can.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
You managed to steer it pretty well. A couple of
days back, you guys lifted the Taipe hands. It was
an explosive victory at thirty plus points. If you look
back at that and determine what actually triggered you guys
to that kind of performance.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I think it's just a long season of wanting to
play hard and win, you know, every game is different
and every team presents, you know, a different set of challenges,
and we wanted to come out on a high note
and as a Segway game it's a Sunday, we wanted
to really play well.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
The massive night for McNaught. The number zero on his jumper,
he's leaving, he's going. He finally managed to get himself
a bucket, and you Blakes were stoked for him.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, it's a special moment for not only Alex, but
our team and our club. What he's meant to this
club over the years. It's just been an exceptional just
feet man. He's he's really the epitome of breaker excellence
on and off the core character and we're just so
happy for him in that moment.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Coming up tomorrow evening, this is the Night Cup of
something else and it really has put a fire up
you guys. Been a fantastic Sees Big Night Cup and
he get a final against you guys have got a
chance to puck it quite a bit of cash, haven't you. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
It's really unique and you could say we've played maybe
our best basketball during the ig Nitcup games, but you know,
it's a great incentive for us to go win something
win some hardware championship and play for some prize money.
And you know, we know guys will be up for
that game as well as they will be, so it's
gonna be a great test for us.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
You can't focus entirely on the money, or can you.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
I think in the situation, you definitely can. I mean,
if that's the motivation to win this game, then I'm
all forward and our guys are all forward, So we
know what this is about. It is not just about
the money, but in some ways it is, so why
not go chase it and go for it?

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Crowning season? I at like thirty six is what do
they bring to the floor.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Well, they're just they're so unique in how they play.
Obviously they have Brce, but they have guys around him
who can stretch the floor and they and they played
with Grid and they will coached. So it's just gonna
be a great game on both sides. You know, we've
just played them recently, so we feel like, you know,
we want to get back what we lost, but you know,

(03:19):
this game is different from the regular season. It's definitely
gonna feel that way, and we're ready for what it tells.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
What happened at the end of the game. You lost Asaiah,
didn't you and Ty Webster about with a hip and
a league problem at how were they looking?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Those guys would be ready to go. You know, like
I said, everything's on the line here and I think
guys want to participate. We can give whatever they got.
You know, we've got a deep team having guys come back,
Sam and Inga and Kareem Lopez, so everybody will be
ready to go.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Sam and Inga more than came back. He came in
with a with a balm and he blew the joined top.
What a performance. You guys won by thirty one, I
want to say, and he scored thirty two points. That's uh,
he's quite the player, and that's probably an understatement.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
At this point, I would say, so, uh, you know
that that game was just another notch and his success
for this season. It was kind of like the the
grand wrap up of just the kind of season he's had,
and you know, he showed why he's one of the
not only one of the best bigs in this league,
the best big, but one of the best players. So

(04:29):
you know, we've been going as he's been playing well
as well as other guys, but we need him to
play like that.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
He's got a great attitude too. He's wonderful to talk to.
He's got that swagger about him, but not arrogant, but
he's got a swagger which is fantastic for it for
a young play Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Yeah, he's he's got it all. I mean, you know
it's it's a confident cockiness because he works hard and
he's earned the right to to feel the way he
does and walk with the the kind of swag he
does on and off the floor. You know he's earned it,
and you know he's gonna get everything that comes his way.

(05:05):
And I'm just really happy for him. And he's took
a huge step in his in his development.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
And another player that's been developing and looking the goods
a lot on for Kareem Lopez managed to come back,
but he's a draft prospect. You guys, focus much on
what you can help him with the kind of deliver him.
Is that even part of the conversation Paget.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
I think it's with him. It's just about integrating him
as best as we can and getting out of him everything.
Squeezing that limit man, because he there's so much that
he has to give and when he's turned on and
really focused. You know, he just gives the best to
our team and for him, he just takes his game
to a new level. So when he's out there, it

(05:52):
feels like he's playing amongst boys. He's a man amongst boys.
And it's crazy to say that because he is just
an eighteen year old kid, but he's again another kid
that's taking a leap in his second year in this program,
and the really disguise a limit for them.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Looking forward to seeing looking forward to watching the game.
I hope you haven't spent your money already because it
ain't one yet. Parker Jackson, Cartwright, Lynchman, out of the Breakers.
Thanks so much for your time. Wishing you the best
for the Ignite Cup Final. You go there and you
blow them up.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Thank you, Thank you for having me.
