Will Young: Black Caps batter ahead of the ODI final against India

One last shot to secure victory in India. 

The final match in the ODI series between the Black Caps and India is tomorrow, the scores currently tied at 1-1, India having taken the first match and New Zealand the second. 

Black Caps batter Will Young joined D’Arcy Waldegrave tomorrow night’s clash.

seven last time out, but maybe you're a little filthy
that you didn't manage to get those three figures?

How I'm good mate?

Speaker 5 (00:33):
Until he had brought that up, But it was a
it was a brilliant partnership I managed to share with Darryl.
Darryl's in some amazing form at the moment and for
him to finish one hundred and thirty nine out and
bring the game home for the boys and level the series.
That's the main thing, Darcy brendandoor now. And we've got

the decider in a couple of days time, so yeah,
we're all looking really looking forward to that.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
You say Daryl's in good form, now, when is he
not in good form? Is there any format where he
gets it wrong? When the bloke just keeps scoring run
t twenty teast one days Nationals it just doesn't matter.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
Yeah, you're right, You're did right, But I guess I
was just alluding to his odi I form of late.
It's it's actually outrageous and I think he's ranked number
two Odio batsman in the world right now, so he's
been doing a hell of a job.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
But you're right though, it's a cross all formats too.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Tell us about the tour so far, because you've got
a couple of stalwarts not there, you got a couple
of young guys involved, and of course we've got the
old heads and some returning characters as well.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
How's it all gelling over there?

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Now?

Speaker 5 (01:37):
The boys are doing really really well. So I suppose
the new head you're talking about is Eddie Ashocks come in.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
He's a leg spinner from Auckland.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
Christian Clark's seam bowling around her from taoa Mutu and
Jadan Lennox.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Is my teammate at the Stags.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
He's a left arm altho and they've all all had
to crack this so far the series and they've all
done really really well.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
So yeah, it's I guess a bose well for the
group really.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
Where we're over here in India, we're traveling from hotel
to hotel, We're spending a bit of time with each
other and we're yelling. We're getting on well, and yeah,
the performance performances are starting to show on the park too.
We had a close loss to India in the first
game and then we managed to get over the line
in the second, so yeah, things are tracking nicely for

the decider in a few days time.

Interesting place for these young tweakers to get on deck,
and India is not the most friendly place in the
world condition wise.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
I suppose it works for the likes.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Of Jayden and Addie, but the Indians know there, they
know their conditions and they'll be running.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
At these blokes. So it's a lot of pressure on
these fowls, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
Yeah, yeah, you did right.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
I think if you look at the Indian batting lineup
in particular, obviously like the lights of Kohli and Root,
Sharma and Sugar and Gil, you know, these guys are
some of the best odio betters in the world. And
when they come across and you jellings with a couple
of debutantes, I think they like their lips and want
to light it up. But you know, in the same breath.

(03:13):
You know that ego can can get the better of you,
and and especially Christian you know, like he picked up
three wickets in that second game, three key wickets too,
and Jaden Bowlder really misley spell in that second game
as well. I thinks for forty odd he.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
Picked up his first wicket too, So.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
Yeah, they've they've got their work cut out for them,
but they're all doing it quietly well so far.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
How are you feeling contribution wise?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
It you got the eighty seven's great and score much
in that first up game, but your form where are
you at looking forward to this next game in a
couple of days time.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
Yeah, it's been it's been quite a lean season, to
be honest RC for me. So it's it's awesome to
spend some time in the middle in that second game
and contribute towards towards the win in terms of a
in terms of a Mats winning partnership with Daryl, it
was really fun, you know, sharing the sharing increase with
Darryl and building building that partnership and sort of going

(04:09):
through the ebbs and flows of on early innings and
and managed managing I think to cumate one hundred and
sixty odd together.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
I got out just before thee hundred as you. Oh,
I'm sorry you reminded me early.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
But there he finished, finished the job and was absolutely clinical.
So yeah, yeah, and it's nice to spend some time
in the middle and hopefully I can contribute in the
last game.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Too, strange time to be playing one day international cricket
considering that the T twenty World Cups just around the corner.
But what you've got five T twenties on the bounce
coming up after this third and final ODI.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
Yeah, so it is sort of a random time to
be playing one day cricket with a T twenty World
Cut around the corner. But as soon as the series
is over, the black Caps play five T twenties against India,
all in different venues, and then they stay in India
for the T twenty World Cup itself. It's perfect prep
in a way to play against a strong opposition in

India and get used to the conditions.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
And yeah, I'm.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
Sure both those squads are really looking forward to getting
stuck in because it's not long now until the big
dance gets underway.
