Are you kind of on the celebrity speaking circuit now
that you've hung up your hand piece?

Definitely not, Jamie.

I'm hid hiding on the farm where it's much much
more my cup of tea.

You still look pretty lean and trim. Are you still
on the end of the hand piece.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Yes, Unfortunately, I've actually been sharing a few sheep.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yeah, sort of. Everybody thinks, oh, you're still sharing it.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Yeah, I just retired from competing, so yeah, unfortunately I'm
sharing far.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Too many sheeps still. But it's the way it goes.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I suppose, Well, you probably make pretty good money doing
them yourself, don't you.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
We share our own sheets. They don't get paid anything.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Well no, no, Well, if you had to pay someone
else to do it, I mean, that's all opportunity cost.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Doesn't it.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
So what a Roland and Ingrid Smith do in their
farming lives now that you've still aside from competitive sharing, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
I suppose it's just a bit more time on the
farm actually, just fit of competitive sharing in with everything
else to do, so there was actually really little time
to do it. So now it's just a bit more relaxed.
And you know, at the end of a day, if
I've been working all day, I don't have to go
for a run or anything like that, so having a
beer instead.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
So talk to me about or talk to these people
about your farming operation.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Yeah, so we farm and haste things just and Maracaco
there and we run around around two thousand acres and
sheading beef and predominantly fat and lambs and yeah, so
which tends to be a few sheep. So there's a
bit of sharing involved.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
I know you've made a lot of money sharing over
theirs and you've earnted every cent of it. But I'm
assuming some of the two thousand acres is lease or
do you own the whole lot.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
If you made that much money sharing.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
I'd like to say yes, but no, no, we only
own a small block and we leave three farms, so yeah,
we're working towards it.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
So but how good. Is it to see the wall
price coming up at the moment?
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Absolutely well. I think the aall industry was under a
wee bit of threat a year or two ago. We
had a lot of farmers moving into self shedding sheep.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Maybe they're thinking twice about that move.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Just a final one for you hawks, Bay, I understand,
and you just confirmed it before.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Is still quite dry? Is this like a winter drought?
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Yeah, certainly. Our whole country is definitely crying out for
a bit of rain. But like I said before, we
don't wish too hard for these things because generally it'll
all come at once. So yeah, a little bit of
rain here and there and a bit of sunshine will
be all good.

would say the better half, Ingrid Smith. She's famous in
her own right, believe it or not. This woman here
is a former world record holder as a sharer as well.
With your mom. It's such a great story. Tell us
about well, tell these guys about that.

Ah.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
So quite a few years ago now, Mum and I
had been to Emily Welcher's record, and afterwards on the
drive home, Mum said, well, why don't we try and
do something like that, So we ended up doing that.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
In two thousand and nine we did the two who.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
Stand eight hour Woman's lamb sharing record and we set
it at nine oh three and at the time one
was fifty four and I was twenty three, so she's
a big old day.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
The Smith children have no chance with your genetics. There's
going to be some sharers amongst you, a lot, isn't they,
Because you've come from a family your mom and dad
were both sharers, and you basically didn't get a choice,
did you.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
You had to get on the end of the handpiece.
No shirkers. I think your father.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
Said yes, I'm one of five children and we can
all share a sheep. And we were just up there
on the weekend and four of the five siblings were there. Dad,
who's seventy five, was up there sharing away arthritis and all.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
So yep, we all just got in and got it done.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
But you're much more than a sharer and a farmer.
Talk to me about your other life, your social media life.
You have a very high profile as the made up farmer.
Talk to us about that.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (03:53):
So yeah, I have a little online makeup business and
I've just sort of in the last couple of years
started incorporating a bit more farming content, but of farming, humor, horses,
general chaotic parent life, and that.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
Seems to go quite well with people. So yeah, it's
good fun.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
And you've got a bit of a rep if you
don't mind me saying so. I've not taken any shit
for want of a better word, because there's always not
there's always wirdos on social media who.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Will have a go, Isn't that absolutely matter how positive.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
You're being, And that's kind of become my em If
I get a shitty comment, I'll make a reply video
and basically shut them down nicely sometimes sometimes.
