It was going to be the young Farmer panel, but
I lost one of the young farmers, George Dodson, so
I got a middle aged farmer and I'll start with
the youngest of the two on the farmer panel, Emma
Paul twenty twenty three, Young Farmer of the Year. As
I'm fond of saying, and I'm I am a shocker
for repeating myself, you did break the grass ceiling.

Good Ajmie. Nice to be here, and you'll have to
excuse my voice today. It sounds like I've been out partying,
but it's quite the opposite, and that it's hard to
wrangle three children and come to the come to the field.
Today's today, and I have bought them along with me,
but I'm thinking it's a mistake now, But I think
they're enjoying well.

I saw a happy Chris there, so he'll be no
doubt doing the hard yards looking after that. So we
talked to Sir David Fagan, who's a bit of an
ambassador for can Am. I know, I think you're involved
with the Blue Tractors, aren't you.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yeah, not Canam, but New Holland Tractors will be at
the site there this afternoon with the FMG Young Farmer
of the Year contestants are coming round at two o'clock.
I've got a bit of a quiz to run for.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Them, and of course that that Young Farmer Grand Finals happening,
and well it's in less than a month. It's probably
about three weeks time and Taranaki.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Right totally, and they've got short count down there for them.
They'll be handing in their projects shortly and putting the
polishing touches on their physical skills.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I think there, Jamie, now you can't sit on the
fence here, Emma, don't disappoint me.

Is there a favorite who do we need to watch
out for?
Speaker 4 (01:18):
I don't know.

I've got a soft spot for young Tom Slee from Southland.
I know his father and his father, Richard, was a
Young Farmer of the Year himself.

Yeah, there's a few good, good characters in there. David
Reesby competed with Chris and Tim what was that twenty
two you'd no good in than I hed put in
a good effort then, So it'll be cool to see
how he goes this year, coming back for a round two,
and I think he's pretty keen to take you and.

He's a hell of a nice bloke.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
He's got a job for a mate of mine son,
so he is a really good he's he Oh he's
Is he a man.

Or two Taranaki dairy farmer? Yes, so he's the local representative.

He is, he's his hometown. It's always a good place
to try and take it out when you're at home.

You run a company, you do a whole lot of things,
you and your wife Claire, but you do restore native nurseries.
You've got a site just inside the main pavilion. I
literally between here where we're broadcasting from and the media center.

I don't know ten times a day of this is
my third day here, so maybe I've walked past your
site twenty or thirty times. Do you know what, Adam, No,
I've yet to see you manning on the tools.

It's too many good people here, JV.

I get caught up having good conversations as we do
it field days and yeah, lots of good buguess.

Know s farmers are doing Okay, Look at the look
at the crowds here. I think this record crowd so
eventually we'll get a number. I think this is going
to be record attendance field days. Has it equated to
record sales for you?

Yeah, not necessarily for field days, but some really awesome
conversations and just like just as huge, you're just farmers
doing really cool stuff. They could be spending their extra
money on overseas holidays and a new boat, but a
lot of them it spending it on trees and doing
really cool stuff on farm So yeah, we're having really
good yarns. But yeah, it probably not heaps more than usual,
but but yeah, lots of farmers soon cool stuff.

And just a final word for you, You and I,
well we're going to plant some native trees in weeks
a marrow, which is.

Just I had to look it up on the map.

They won the Rabobank Good Deeds promotion and that's sort
of on the hills up above Cambridge.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yep, that's right in our hood. So we're about five
minutes down the road. My kids are standing over there.
They go to the Tamuro School and yep they'll be
out there helping you, Jamie. So if you need any tips,
the young Thompson, Clara and Maverick. They'll show you how
to plant the trees on the day. That'll be fine.
