were meant to chat to me at field Days, but
I had bigger fish to fry. Let's face it, Lux
and Chippy Shane in Swinston Peters almost Andrew Hoggart, you
made the cut because you were a man in demand
at field Days, not because of the excellent work you're
doing as Minister of Biosecurity, but because of your reckless

behavior on the end of a chainsaw. Well, it's not
a good afternoon, it's good morning as we record this, Andrew.

Yeah, good, Jamie. Yell know, there's plenty of farmers coming
up to me asking what this other technique was that
everyone said we should be using. Most of them as
I spoke to only thought there was one technique and
I had it mastered. I'm sure someone wanted me to
put a few road cones out and crash. I'll keep
doing it. How I do it?

Well, Grant McCallum, National MP for Northland, you're slightly woke.
You would do it. You would play by the rule book.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Wouldn't you play by the rules? Jamie? You know what
I'm like? Yes, yes, always keep them right. That's the
nature of it, although you do have the wonder of
some people. Seed have a lot of time to was

Well, Grant an election year for a politician, any publicity's

hobnobbing in a select committee, so I had to pre

to eleven, it looks like Trump has got a deal
in the Middle East. Mind you, he might have blown
something up by midday.

Who knows. He's hoping. I'll believe it when ships start
sailing through the straits of Women's then we know we've
got a deal. Until then, it's all speculation. But he
is hoping because honestly, we all need the price of
fuel and come down. There's no question about that.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Okay, let's talk about field days. They came out with
the numbers on Saturday afternoons, so record attendance on Wednesday.
I knew that. I thought Thursday might have given it
a nudge, but all up, I wasn't there on Saturday.
But it was a great attendance, great weather. Although I
must admit, Andrew Haigard and I'll stay with you, I
don't think I've ever been as cold at Field Days

as I was on Thursday morning. That was a Southland
frost and the white caddo.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah she was a bit chilly, but you know I
was may It was a glorious day or all of
the days actually were. You know, who would have thought
middle of June and everyone's wearing sunglasses. It was a
stoning day. And yeah, the attendance was pretty impressive, and
you know, the vibe of the place was pretty good
as well. I remember a few years back and it

was like walking through a funeral procession, whereas you know,
people were engaged, they were excited, and yeah, I found
a really good buzz to the event.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
We're going to be talking to Wendy Paul slightly from
Growing Future Farmers and Grant McCallum. I'd have to say,
and this is just anecdotal observation, there was a hell
of a lot of what looked like young farmers. Men
and women are there often with the young families. You know,
they looked like farmers, they dressed like farmers. Are making
the assumption they were farmers. But there was a lot

of young people there.

I know they're where and it's great to see. That's
the future of our sector. Right. I want to talk
about a bloke who's quite the other end of the scale,
who spent his time running around trying to win votes,
and fellow Lord Winston Peters, who I just feel he
talked about. I mean the gall of the bloke he
says he wants people to vote from an insurance policy.
(03:32):
What an insurance policy for? When he goes with labor.
I mean, this is the sort of nonsense we had
to put up with Winston forever. I mean, just remember
back to since he's the one that goes back into
history the campaign in ninety ninety six he said to
the Prime Minister at the time Bulger should not bother
to make the phone call out of the election and
ended up going coalition with them. Same things playing Now
the question is is he going to go and do

a deal with Hipkins or MacNulty. I just don't trust
him and voters shouldn't either.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Well, he's already ruled out publicly going with Labor and Shippy.
I'm not sure that's going to be an issue for
you this year, Grant. The issue for you and your
mates and the National Party will be Winston and then
Andrew on the other side, cannibalizing your votes. Because Andrew Andrew,
you guys and the Act Party are trying to get
your votes. There's only one party you're going to get

votes off, and that's Well and that's the next.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
The past we've known in the past, we've looked at
some of the results, We've got them from all across
the spectrum. Don't forget that Van Velden has to be
a Green Party voter back when she was very very young,
and so, you know, people grow up, they realize how
the market works and how taxes are taking off you
and how they are often poorly spent, and so a

lot of people do change their minds over time. So
we're trying to appeal to anyone and everyone that believes
in the same principles we do.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Okay, you'll both agree on this one. Labor finally came
out with some policy, and what an underwhelming bus policy
or public transport policy it was. It's just it's like
their capital gains tax with three free doctors visits. This is,
you know, subsidizing rich bureaucrats, wealthy bureaucrats and Wellington to
get to the work and the beehive for something. It's
(05:12):
poorly targeted. There's nothing in this for the productive sector,
especially in rural New Zealand.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah, that's through the cases typical labor. They have a
general policy with no costings and then they spread it
and then they give it to everybody, even if you
don't need it. I mean one thing, since only I
cost sixty five million is dreaming when you look at
the numbers of people that use public transport and the
level of the subsidy. Just typical poorly policy. And also,
(05:41):
as you say, Jamie, does nothing for those of us
in the rural sector who lets you earn the money
they send up subsidizing these peak.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Although Chippy was going on about school buses, I didn't
quite get what he was meaning. They're rural school buses,
that is, Andrew Haggart. It doesn't affect you because you've
got a show for driven Crown limousine anyhow.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Actually, actually I drove up to the field as of
my own personal care, thank you very much. So there
was no use of VIP. There no look again, as
Grant said, poorly directed funding. You know, there's no sort
of matching up with need. It's just here, here's some
cash's throw it around and who cares. We're at lands

and that's how we ended up with the bloody mess
of debt we've got At the moment, I'm paying ten
billion a year and interest on it.

I agree with You've got to go, guys. I know, Grant,
you've got to select committee vote to go to how's
your neck? By the way, because you spent three days
at field days nodding in the background, so i'd imagine
you probably need a bit of a message.
