Speaker 1 (00:00):
Phil Duncan, it is your turn to kick off the
show today. Good to chat to you, mate. Is the
North Island drought over.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Okay, mate, Yeah, it's mostly over, but we are still
seeing some areas that are dry, especially around the sort
of central part of the North Island down to parts
of Hawk's Bay wided up. That kind of central southern
part of the North Island is still leaning dryer than
average in some places, but many other parts of the
country are back to normal now, which is great to

(00:28):
have that relief.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Finally, here my nee We're drought Index map, which was
last updated on ANZAC Day Friday. Of course, the driest
part of the country, if you believe this map, is
kind of like the Waikato region or South Waikato region.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah. Yeah, the Kaimi Rangers, the Mamaku Ranges out to
the east block a lot of the northeast rain.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
And you know, my family live in Tiadoha right on
the edge of the Kaimai Rangers on the other side
Cuddy Cutting, and it can be pouring with rain there.
And you go a few kilometers out to the plains
in Lawrensville and there's not a drop for rain, so
a bit like the Canterbury Plains, just a reverse instead.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Of a northwester, it's northwester. It's the northeaster for us
in the north. But that dry area goes from South
Wacotto down to about one and neuis parts of Muna,
We're two parts of southern Hawks Bay and also wide
it up, so hopefully there'll be a bit of relief
in those areas this week. We do have some rain
from another low and more subtropical weather coming down over
the next couple of days for the North Island and

(01:24):
that we'll get down to probably even Canterbury with some rain.
They're getting set in for a time.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah, and we've got a bit of a cold snap
coming up from the bottom of the country as well,
which is I guess very timely with duck shooting, or
I'd better correct myself. Duck hunting season opening day on
Saturday morning.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Film Yeah, norwek Ken is actually looking pretty good. But
there's a cold snap all right. You're going to be
cold on Thursday, with a high of eight in Dunedin.
At this stage it might go up to Ken if
you're out of the wind and not a bit of
sun on you. But yeah, cold cold change coming through
this week. The North Island doesn't get much of that,
but basically by the time we get to Saturday and

(02:03):
going into Sunday, massive high pressure zoned from Australia, stretching
from West Australia down to the Southern Ocean up to
the Tropics. It's a really big high and it's coming
in for the first weekend of May.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Well, the duck Smart they're very thankful for that film.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yeah. I think it's a forecast that's usually pretty good.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Well, good for the ducks, not for the hunters.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Well, look, I can only speak for South and I've
got a pond down there, even though I'm a retired
duck hunter fell but there's too many ducks down there,
so I just do hope the shooters can get on
top of the population.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Absolutely, yeah, it's going to be.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
There's a reason we.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Had this, absolutely all right. Phil. Hey, thanks Fit, I'm
great to chat to you again.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
My pressure.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
Have a good week, Jamie.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Oh well,
