Speaker 1 (00:00):
Weather on the country with Fiji where happiness comes naturally, Yes, Fiji. Indeed,
Fell Duncan wraps the country on a Monday. Hey, Phil,
we were just talking to Smiley Barrett Taranaki Kalkoki said,
while they've had a couple of good rains in the
last few days, they're still very very dry. How many
parts of the country are still looking out for rain.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeahday, Jamie. It's sort of the lower North Island Tartanuki
and as one particular area. Hawks Bay is another, and
so as Mona were too hot of Fenawa. And then
in the South Island it's sort of the area just
between Graymouth and Westport, which is also dried and it
should be to this time of the year. And unfortunately
in those areas, especially the Tartanuki or the western coastal areas,

(00:45):
they're not likely to get as much rain with most
of high pressure coming through this week and showers been
more focused maybe on the eastern side of New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Even though Northland got hammered last week did in the
greater picture of it we dodge a wee bit of
a bullet there.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, I think the rain was probably a net positive
for most places obviously other than the areas directly flooded.
But yeah, rainfall was really good in a number of
areas that hadn't really seen rain so far this month
and they got just a month or two worth of
rain at the end of it. So a lot of
high pressure this week coming in over the country. There'll
still be some showers, some of those heavy going through

(01:22):
the week and going into Easter. But next week we
are watching a tropical cyclone around the Fiji area drifting southwards.
It's unclear if it's going to directly hit New Zealand,
but some of the modelings suggest that might do middle
to later part of next week.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Okay, So as we look over the Easter weekend, what
can people expect if they're lucky enough to get a break.
I appreciate that many farming folk won't, But even for
farming through it, what do you got for the long weekend?

Speaker 2 (01:48):
I got a Monday kicks off really well with high
pressure right smack dang over the central part of New Zealand.
So there'll be a light easterly at the top of
the North Island and a light westerly at the bottom
of the South Island. Most of the places very light winds.
Stays pretty much like it on Friday, except the westerlies
pick up in the South Island. That's the head of
a cold front on going into Saturday, so few showers

(02:10):
coming out of that, but mostly dry. And those showers
go into the North Island on Sunday with an easterly,
and Monday, that easterly picks up as the high moves
away from us a little bit parked over the Channel Islands,
and that's when we're looking at a potential tropical cyclone
between the North Island and Tonga. Definitely worth keeping an
eye on.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Bill Duncan, thanks as always for your Tom on a Monday.
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Thank you.

Bleep! with Ana Navarro

Bleep! with Ana Navarro

Fear thrives in silence and confusion. Ana Navarro rejects both. Her voice is an antidote to today’s chaos. Her new podcast, Bleep! with Ana Navarro, takes on today’s most pressing issues with the voices most connected to it: decision-makers, political leaders, cultural shapers, and people on the frontlines of the story. The conversations acknowledge the emotions we all feel—despair, sadness, fear— but emerge with knowledge, perspective, and hope. The belief is simple: fearless dialogue can transform fear into courage, and courage into change. When fear dominates the headlines, this show digs deeper. Because information, debate, and conversation don’t just ease fear, they give us power to shape the future.
