Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time to talk groceres. Yeah, this is my favorite time
of the week. This is actually why I fell in
for BK, because I love catching up with this man.
David Steart, Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Good morning, great.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
How are you very well. I've got great news for you.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
I've been eating greens, I've been making salads, I've been
filling it up with all the good stuff, and I'm
feeling good as gold.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Well, that's really good.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
You watching metch Fit or something on TV?

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Yeah, no, properly, no, no, I just I think it's
because my wife and I have sons, have moved out,
and it's actually just easy to make some sellads. Throw
a bit of check it on it, a little bit
of maybe a little bit of beef, you know, just nice,
just nice and simple.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
I did exactly last night, a couple of bits of
I fell at steak and some salad that was very
very nice, and must say, sitting and thought that was
a very enjoyable meal.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
One thing I've done.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
And this is not part of being a green grocer,
I know, but I think over my time and now
I don't eat as much meat. I don't.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
I'd rather go for a bit more quality, but a
smaller piece.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Yeah, true, Yeah, I agree with it.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, no, it always plenty of greens.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
Yeah, I love my broccoli and mccaulie flower.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
So Coulie flower, you and I talking about that. Yeah,
I'll put a bit of Collie flow on the steel,
for get a bit of the.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Source on it.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Yes, you need to color too, you know, you need
to just kind of been green ae.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
One thing I have noticed, and I am serious, I
have been is I actually haven't found prices too bad
in the supermarkets when it comes to the you know,
the fruit of agile.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
No, no excuse me. Green has been very, very plentiful
all the Ukraig Broccoli College for our celery silver legs
also doing really well. You know, we're a bunch of
the silver at the moment in the shop at two
dollars great big kids of Broccolian two dollars day. But
the weather's been reasonably kind. There's been a few frosts
for cold days. It's not too bad the supplies. But
people really aren't buying as much as what.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
They used to do.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
People are kind of watching their money. They're all little
list and they're buying exactly off the list that's on
BKN I've been talking about this for a while now,
but even across the greens and that you know, your
roast veggies is so cheap and roast I love it
this time yet but just ourtune brustles sprouts are finishing
up on the next few days to just be weird.
But but don't be like that bus is starting. No
mate in the shops like next week up seat, but

(02:01):
bring us on the way. So but you sell and
just watch the avir tomatoes, your capskins and your Q
comes all the hothouse going product in the moment's time.
You're in New Zealand, supplies aren't plenty fum prices are
moving up on those, but there's Aussie stuff coming in,
you know, good tomatoes and in fact, I was surprising
how nice the Aussy tomatoes were. And caps comes to around,

(02:22):
so it's keeping the prices reasonable on those things there.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
So just look around when you're shopping. It's all yeah, and.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
I mean, you know, and the apples.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
I mean, I know we're probably into the stored apples
and those sort of things, but yeah, you know, I
mean I'm a I'm a real snob when it comes
that apple got to be crispy, it's got to be you.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Know, that feeling. But Queen Queen is a very popular.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
One of the moments is that the slightly pinker one.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Well, that's there's Pink Cryp's pink they called, or pink Lady.
That's those two of the at the top of the parade.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
At the moment that right, going out very very well.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
There's Dazzle hanging around to which is quite nice. All
red Ones Greenny Smiths all sells well though, but all
that that product is just mentioned. That fruit there all
has been in storage. Kiwi fruit apples, pears. Supplies are
sort of shortening up a little bit on that and
prices and moving up attached.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
But we are.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
August and in September and spring is nearly there, so
it's that time of year, mate, you.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Know, you just got adjust. But it was Aussie oranges
coming in Ossie Mandarins.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
They're helping us out. They're doing nice things for a
change to it's sending the good things over here, but
like some of the other things they send over.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
What you're used to that, yeah, that's right, that's I
think the Prime Minister's trying to sort that out.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
In yeah, h trying to do a good job trying.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
To have you know, a you know, I mean you
said about the shopping list, and that is true.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Things are tough, really tough.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
But you know, we're hoping that things might be turning
the corner and things are starting to get better that
you know, I'm talking to riding today about business and
you know it's starting to get a bit more certainty.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Around how's the supply around the country. You know, the
transport systems, the.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Supply has been good, but the cost of growers are
really getting hit with the cost of that Princeton's sealery
up here. Take you know, our salary, most of us
coming from partments in the north. It's cursed them six
dollars a crate to get the.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Product up to the markets in Auckland or Tying where
we are here.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
And you know, they're only really getting a dollar to
a dollar fifty year stick of salary, and there's ten
or twelve and eat so half the price of what
they're returning. Then they lose commission and that they're not
getting a lot of money. The concern in the industry
is these growlers are going to get a return otherwise.
They said, look, I forget about this and you can
put houses on it and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
That's been negative, but it is.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Costs and business are up made and this is the
problem of stuff. But people are getting very very good
bargains of the prison products.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Will believe me absolutely well what we're doing big time.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I'll keep shopping this week and then I look forward
to catching out next week and I can have a
I can throw a few more curly ones at you.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Your salads surprise me. I've written it on the calendar. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Absolutely, you've noticed. You'll notice the supply of it. We need,
we need more down here in the Deep South. I'll
tell you now. I actually drove through seat with Targo.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
I thought the blossoms of stuf and again, but I
think it's just another cold snap. It's just holding things
off a bit longer.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yeah, yeah, a couple of weeks and we all differently
be flowers everywhere, and everyone to be happy as in
the shop and need to be some strawberries after that,
and it didn't be Christmas.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
And just remember, just remember, no more Brussels sprouts.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
What a good day, No, thank you very much, have
a good day.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Likewise, take you yeah, seven minutes to seven, Yeah, It's
I always like catching up with David Short, talking groceries
and what's been. I say I'm very healthy, don't I'm
drinking Beery. I took my Beerry tea out just to
let you know I've replaced it with a green tea.
