The Hodaki Big Show.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Thanks to crave-worthy street food. Freshly made with Reburger.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Welcome to the Hodaki Big Show. Really big. With Jason Hoyt,
Mike Minogue and Keezy.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Big Show!
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Oh, g'day, you mad bastards. Great to have your company
on this moody, wet, windy Friday afternoon. It is the
4th of September, 2026, and you, my friends, as always,
listening to The Big Show, brought to you by Reburger.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Serving good times and good food. Dine in or take
away Reburger today.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Reburger. Yeah, great stuff. Of course, it's a bit chilly
in here, Mogi, and your tight T-shirt's not... leaving anything
to the imagination at all and not that I'm complaining
mind it's just Very, very distracting. How are you, you stallion?
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Going pretty grousey, you mad dog, you sick son of
a bee. Bit of a wet one up here, isn't it, mate?
Speaker 1 (01:01):
It is, it is.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
In the 09, Auckland. If you want to know what
the weather's like, the rest of New Zealand up in Auckland,
it's rainy and a bit cool.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yeah, and a bit windy.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
A little bit windy as well. I'm a little bit
worried about today's show, I'll be honest with you, man.
I mean, Keezy there, he's coming hot. He's tried to
show a whole bunch of energy, but we know it's
a facade because... You're hungover, aren't you, Keezy? You're in pieces.
You're a shell of a man. You're a shocking bastard.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
G'day, fellas.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
I don't know what you're talking about. Feeling good.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Friday. I'm seeing a crash at about 4.17, the way
he's going at the moment.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
What?
Speaker 1 (01:31):
No, I'm feeling good, boys.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
I actually laid off the beers last night. Yeah, no,
it's not good, fellas. A bit dusty. Can you tell
us what time you got to bed?
Speaker 5 (01:42):
Just to give us a taste. We'll go into it
more deeply later on and across the entire show.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
Not bad at all.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Midnight.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
It's too late for someone like you.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
What do you mean someone like me?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Especially your age now. What do you mean my age now?
I'm sweet. You're getting on.
Speaker 5 (01:54):
Oh, it's no good.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
I'm only four years younger than you, Jason.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
I know, mate.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
So I know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
How are you today, by the way?
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, very well, thank you. Can't complain.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
And nor will I. Makes a change. What's happening on
The Big Show with Old Mogi.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
Friday, fellas, and that means another opportunity at a massive throbber.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah, baby.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Dish, dish, dish. We're also going to get into Would
You Rather. It's Waz or Cars, an opportunity to get
yourself into the draw to go to the grand final
of the NRL in Sydney or head along to Mount
Panorama to catch Bathurst, baby.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
How bloody good.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
And coming up next, fellas, we're going to talk about
Father's Day.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, man.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
Father's Day has come around again. It's come around again.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
It seems to happen every year.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
Sneaks up on you, doesn't it?
Speaker 1 (02:47):
It really, really does.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
His father's our bad thing. I'm getting bad thing vibes.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
You're both fathers, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
That's true. It's a good thing, right?
Speaker 4 (02:57):
You get celebrated.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Here's Arctic Monkeys.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Queens of the Stone Age there on the Radio Hauraki
Big Show. This Friday afternoon, the time is 23 minutes
past 4 o'clock. Don't forget those frowd-outs, by the way.
Frowd-out shy day. Got any frowd-outs? 3483 is the number
you text.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Yeah shout outs fellas last night I was judging a
battle of the bands type competition yes it was a
battle of the ad bands or agency bands or something
with all the advertising agencies that work with our company
they all get all their talented musos together perform a
whole lot of songs in front of a crowd and
they have a panel of judges.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Is that what it is yeah I didn't know that
you've been doing that for years.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Yeah I think it was my fourth year doing it
it's always really good fun last year it was me
and Bo Runga for example yeah how good yeah she
wasn't there this year who was there this year A
fella called James, nice bloke.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Never heard of him. Yeah, well, I haven't even told
you his last name. Don't worry about it.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
But the way it works is the bands come out,
they perform for 15 minutes. They're given a theme. Last
night's theme was 70s. Great era of music.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
What a lot of bands were doing was playing four songs.
because that's roughly 15 minutes.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
However, a few bands decided to try and jam like eight, seven,
six songs and just do like a little bit of
a song and then quickly move on to another one.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
There's a name for that.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
A medley. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
And me and the other judges were like, damn it,
I want to listen to the rest of the song.
You were doing such a good job, but then you
moved on sort of thing. So there's this one band,
I can't remember which one it was, but they were really,
really good. They always do really well each year. And
they did a massive medley. And in my judging, I
said on the microphone in front of everyone, I said,
I would have loved you to actually do the whole
songs because I was trying to sing along and then
(04:46):
it would move on just as, you know, I was like,
I want a climax here. You're just sort of edging
me along and then moving off. And I also said,
you guys are great. You know, you're always up on
the podium. You know, you're always a podium finish.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
And I then, after judging that, went out back to
go wheeze in the green room where they were all standing.
And the toilet is in the corner of the green room.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
And it's a little wooden, like, plywood box thing. And
I'm in there, and I'm just listening to these guys.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Releasing a powerful stream of built-up businesses. 100% true.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
So I'm in there listening, and they are going in
on the judges. And it was very funny. It was
like they were convinced they had done pretty much a
flawless performance. They were convinced that the judges didn't know
what they were talking about, which is true.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
And they kept saying stuff like... Like, oh, too many songs.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Oh, what?
Speaker 4 (05:36):
So you just want the same chorus a few more times?
Speaker 1 (05:39):
That's true. He's got a point there.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
100%.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
Got you there.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
And so I'm sitting in the, well, I'm not sitting,
I'm standing in the bog in the corner there swaying
slightly with a big grin on my face cracking up.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah, right.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
And then they go, yeah, and when he said we're
always a podium finish, I've never hated someone so much
in my life.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Oh, really?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Oh, really?
Speaker 4 (05:59):
And I literally burst out laughing in the toilet in
the corner laughing obviously pulled up the old zipper there,
washed my hands, came out, and then they're like, oh,
hang on, you are one of the judges, aren't you?
And I'm like, yeah, I reckon next time do a
few more songs. But I can't figure out if they
were intentionally speaking loud because they knew I was a
judge or that was just what I just heard.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
And it is interesting because they'd spent months practicing and
then a guy comes in half-steamed who isn't a muso.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
But you're the audience, Keezy.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
100%.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
And sometimes you've got to, These musicians have had it
too good for too long, man. You've got to take
them down a peg or two.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Muses?
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Sure.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
They've been out there. They've been practicing month after month
after month, putting everything they can into this to try
and win some kind of thankless prize.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Meaningless. Probably a meat pack or something.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
And in comes old Inglebert Steamer-Keesy. Think of that, Steamer Keezy.
Whose favourite artist is a 94-year-old and tells them that
what they're playing is no good or there's too much
of it, you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (07:03):
I said that was very good.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
That's right.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
But you can understand why they'd be thinking to themselves, wow,
you know?
Speaker 1 (07:09):
I remember once I was doing a steamer in the
toilets of the comedy club there, Keezy. Similar experience. And
I'd just done my gig. And so I was sitting
on the bog there doing a steamer.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Right, so you bombed on stage, then bombed the toilet.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yes, pretty much. And someone came in, the same thing.
There were two dudes there chatting about my gig and
just slaying it. Actually? Yeah, actually. And one of them
was going, you know, a lot of people find him funny.
I've never found him funny. Yeah, yeah. And then I
finished up and just walked out with my head held high.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Yeah, did you flush?
Speaker 1 (07:48):
No, I just left it there.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki. One simple question.
One weekend of a lifetime. Would you rather?
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Yes, indeed. Would you rather was or cause? New Zealand,
it's up to you. NRL Grand Final or Bathurst 1000.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
All thanks to our mates at boystrip.co.nz. The NRL package
is amazing. You get to go to the races the
day before. You get to go, which will be a blowout.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
If it was me. Potentially.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
You then get to go on a riverboat cruise to
the actual grand final itself on the Sunday there.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Flights taken care of and accommodation. And Bathurst is the
same situation. You get escorted to Mount Panorama and back
both days there. Saturday and Sunday, flights taken care of.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Well, as Mokey pointed out, and quite rightly yesterday, I mean,
say you go to the NRL, the WAs are in
the final.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
The WAs win the final. You get your trip paid for,
your accommodation paid for, everything paid for, and the WAs
win the grand final. Yeah. That's got to be the
greatest day of your life. I mean, it wouldn't be mine.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
No.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
But for a lot of people, that would be, I'm
happy now. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Do you think, this is slightly off topic, do you
think the Warriors winning the grand final will be one
of the greatest days in New Zealand sport history?
Speaker 6 (09:18):
100%.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
I think it is.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
Of course it is.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Yeah, I think so. I think it'll be right up there.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Right up there.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
I don't know who would say it would be anything
other than that.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Well, I might. Hey, let's go to the phone lines. G'day, Tom,
you mad bastard. How's life?
Speaker 6 (09:33):
Yeah, good, fellas.
Speaker 7 (09:33):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Big plans for your Friday, Tom.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
Yeah, no, just heading down the mountain. Hopefully the weather's
going to play ball.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Oh, yeah. I hear you, mate. I hear you. And
what do you do for a crust, Tom?
Speaker 6 (09:47):
I do a bit of marketing.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Oh, yeah. No biggie. No biggie. Yeah, backbone. No biggie
from old Tom. And what would your choice be in
this scenario, Bathurst or the NRL grand final, mate?
Speaker 6 (09:58):
I remember as a young fella being at the first
Warriors game at Mount Smart against the Broncos, so it's
going to have to be the Wads.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Yeah, good on you, mate.
Speaker 6 (10:07):
I don't want to jinx it.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Good choice, Tom. You hold the line there, mate, and
old Pugsan will sort you out.
Speaker 6 (10:13):
Cheers, mate.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Good on you. He was no-nonsense old Tom, wasn't he?
Speaker 5 (10:16):
It was quite good, that first game there, because we
lost by one point to the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
I remember that game. It was a doozy.
Speaker 5 (10:22):
It was an absolute doozy. So we all thought, jeez,
we're going to smash this competition. This is easy. And
here we are 30 years later waiting for our first title.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Jase, were you dressed as Wally the Wombat for that game?
Speaker 1 (10:33):
No, he didn't come in for a couple of years,
I think, actually.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
He was a mascot in the early days of the Wilds.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Yes, he was. Let's go to Carmel. G'day, Carmel. How's life?
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, bloody good, mate.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
And yourself? Yeah, I can't bloody complain, Carmel. Hey, tell me,
what's your plan for the Friday out there in Cambridge?
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Not long home from work. Just going to chill. Was
going to have a beer in front of our outside fire,
but a bit wet.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
Bit wet, mate. Yeah, hear you, Carmel.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
What do you reckon, Carmel? Pack a day or you're
on the vapes now?
Speaker 6 (11:06):
Neither, mate.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Oh, backbone.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Can you have a word to Jase, please? Because he
is out of control.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Yeah, he's too out of control for me to handle, mate. Yeah, thanks.
I appreciate that. Tell me, Carmel, what would be your
choice here? NRL or Bathurst?
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Definitely a bucket list Bathurst for us.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Good on you. Good on you. Nice.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
All right, Carmel, you hold the line and Hudson will
put you in the draw, all right?
Speaker 7 (11:31):
Excellent.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Thanks, mate. Good on you. Well, Bathurst has been going forever,
hasn't it?
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (11:35):
Absolutely forever. And it's one of those sports that early doors,
you know, decades ago was one of the few sporting
events that would get shown on the telly.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
People froth it.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
All weekend.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Massively so.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
You get in front of the towel, you get on
the beer. So it's been a tradition for a lot
of people for a long time.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
It certainly is in my family. And in fact, I
think the large portion of my family would definitely choose Bathurst.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Yeah, right.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
100%. Yeah, how good.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Well, they're all petrolheads, eh, Keezy? Yeah, man. On the
plantation there.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
I don't have a plantation.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Here's new order.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Small lifestyle block, all right?
Speaker 2 (12:07):
The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Yes, indeed. Jihad there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show
this Friday afternoon. The time is 4.47. Let's talk television.
What's on the telly with Mike Minogue. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
That's right. I've just been continuing on with the TV
show alone, fellas.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
So I don't want to bang on about that until
it's finished.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
I went back to a series that we started a
little while ago, and we went, oh, that's right, we
were watching, it was pretty good, called Vicious, on Disney Channel,
I believe it is, with the star of Shameless. Disney Plus, yeah.
I can't remember her name from Shameless, but.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
Oh, old mate there, yeah, I remember, yeah. She's a backbone.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
And she's the main character. It's basically a classic crime story.
Female serial killer this time. That's right. And she is
the lead detective, if you will. But she's also got
lots of issues herself. You know, your classic scenario. She's
not an alcoholic, is she? No, she likes to drink.
(13:24):
There's other things that she gets into because of her
past that are not healthy.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
But I don't want to go into them too much
on air, if you know what I'm saying, fellas. But
she's kind of a broken spirit outside of work. So
your classic, you know, chaotic, tortured private life, but a
very bloody good cop. I mean, it's actually pretty good.
It's pretty good. Pretty good. It's a pretty solid series,
(13:55):
pretty solid acting. I'll give it a good solid three
buzzies out of five. Okay.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
What is it called and where is it?
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Vicious, Disney +.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
Yeah, yeah, cool.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
Whilst hungover this morning, eating breakfast, I watched Anthony.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
What did you have for breakfast?
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Don't worry about it.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
Yeah, which breakfast was it? Because you had also, you
had lunch at 10.30am. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Oh, right.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
I watched Anthony Bourdain in Singapore.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Like an old, one of his shows that's on YouTube.
All of his shows are on YouTube. Fantastic. If you
can't think of anything to watch, you can just put
one on and it's really, really interesting and really entertaining.
One of the interesting things about Singapore, one of the
richest countries, right, went from a third world country to
a fully developed country in one generation, I think it was,
People there are very, very, very wealthy. Some of the
(14:45):
highest property prices in the world. And you can go
and you can eat French food. You can eat Italian
food and Western stuff, and it's all very expensive. However,
they refuse to pay top dollar at all for Singaporean food. Right, okay.
So all of the Singaporean people are like, well, let's
just open an Italian restaurant. That way we can charge
$ 30 for a main. Whereas the price of, I think
(15:07):
it was like a chicken and noodles or something, has
changed from $ 3 to $ 4 in over... 30 years, that's
all it's done. But Singaporeans are all really wealthy, but
they refuse to pay a lot for their local food,
but they love their local food.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Very interesting. Yes. Just on that front, actually, Keezy, I
got home last night and my wife was watching Samsung TV.
And you know how they have specialised channels where it
just plays all of one particular series? She discovered one
with this Australian chef who's Vietnamese who goes back to
Vietnam to all the places where he used to hang
(15:42):
out and just does this massive Vietnamese tour. Bloody good stuff.
I like a good cooking show.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
And you've been to Vietnam as well.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
I don't know if you guys know this, but I've
actually been to Vietnam. You'll ban me. Xin chào.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
I'm just going to text you on 3483. It's called furious,
not vicious.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Oh, yeah, furious. Shocking bastard.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
So the TV show Jase was talking about is called Furious.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
That's why I couldn't find it on my phone.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
A lot of people texting in right now about it.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
What is it? Huh? What? Vicious.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
The Hodaki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hodaki.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
Yes, indeed.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Lincoln Park. They're on the Radio Hodaki Big Show this
Friday afternoon. Are we happy it's Friday, fellas? You looking
forward to the weekend? I hate it, eh? Yeah, same. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Friday's my worst day. It's like, ah, bloody got to
get through the weekend until I get back to the
show again.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
I'm stoked, man.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Oh, really?
Speaker 4 (16:37):
A couple of days off, yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Because you're hung, eh?
Speaker 6 (16:40):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (16:40):
You're hung today.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
You're hammered yesterday, hung today, hammered tomorrow, hung Sunday. I
reckon probably even for a hung Monday with old Keezy.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Want to play golf on Monday, Keezy? No.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Hey, half after five, fellas, the old Friday frobber.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
Really?
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Yeah. Also, we have a bit of an update on
Keezy's racing pigeon.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Yeah, it's basically come last every single race it's been in,
a complete waste of $ 400. So basically this weekend's race
is do or die. Not literally.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Do or die.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Not literally for the racing pigeon. But more on that
after five.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Yeah, good stuff, mate.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
Speaker 7 (17:31):
It's the Hauraki Big Show's Friday Throbber.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
The Friday Throbber, yes indeed. Every Friday, each of the
fellas in the studio here, we pick a song to
get you in the mood for your Friday night, basically.
Then what happens is you give us a call on
0800 HAURAKI and say what you want the throbber to be.
First to two wins. Well done, Jase.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
You had a mouthful of water and a heap of
chips as well.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
I may have. I may have.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Do you know we've.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
Said this over 200 times?
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Yeah. It's good, eh? But there might be 10 new
people today, Mogi.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
I know, 100%.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
What is this, Robert?
Speaker 1 (18:11):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (18:11):
I don't know about 10.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
It's a good reminder to me.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Do you sometimes forget?
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
Who wants to go first?
Speaker 7 (18:18):
Maybe.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Okay, Mogi's first. What's your song, man?
Speaker 5 (18:21):
This is from a band called Linkin Park, and it
just throbs.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
You hear that, man? Do you hear it?
Speaker 7 (18:31):
It's ripped easy.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
It's ripped.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
We like the rip. What about you, Odie?
Speaker 5 (18:43):
Jay, what do you got, man?
Speaker 1 (18:45):
I've got a bit of Muse. Psycho.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
What's the name of it? Psycho.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Psycho. Nice.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
What was the name of your one?
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Faint, I think.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Faint, that's right. Bloody couple of good tunes there, fellas.
I just went for some Pearl Jam, but a song
I don't hear enough.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Which I love. Dissident. I tell you what. I feel
the verses. Three good tunes here, I reckon. Three tunes here.
So you decide, New Zealand. Give us a call right
(19:33):
now on 0800 Hauraki. In the meantime, let's have a
bit of Foo Fighters.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Oh, yeah!
Speaker 2 (19:41):
The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
Speaker 7 (19:47):
It's the Hauraki Big Show's Friday Throbber.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Yes, indeed, and I think it's fair to say three
throbbers today, fellas.
Speaker 5 (19:58):
Three tunes, feels.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
I think so, I think so, I think so.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
Which is the idea.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Yes, and Mogi kicked us off. Yeah, it's definitely an
old man riff that one. Psycho. Psycho. Yeah, nice.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
It's got a bit of swagger to it, doesn't it?
Speaker 1 (20:44):
It does, mate. It does.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
And I chose one of my favourite Pearl Jam songs, Dissident.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
All right. You decide, New Zealanders. Go to the phone lines. G'day, Steph.
How's life?
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Oh, pretty grouse, you mad dog, you sick son of
a B.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Yeah, this guy gets it, man. He gets it, he
gets it. What are you running with there, Steph?
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Oh, I'm actually a huge fan of your song, Hoy
You Just Bought. That was an absolute throbber.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Yeah, good on you, mate.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
Good on you.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
That's huge.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
You have a good evening, Steph, right?
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Thanks, mate.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
Good on you, man.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
G'day, Jack, you mad bastard. How's life?
Speaker 5 (21:28):
Oh, g'day, Jizzbot.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Doing well, thanks.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
How are you? Yeah, good, thanks, mate. What are you
running with there, Jack?
Speaker 6 (21:35):
Oh, got to be with old Mogey.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Yeah, Mogey.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
He's got to.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Answer it, man. Hard out. The Moganator. I don't know
about that, Jack. That's my new nickname. Have you not
heard about that? Have you heard that?
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Everybody's calling me the Moganator.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
All right, good on you, Jack. G'day, Tony. You're mad bastard.
How's life?
Speaker 5 (21:52):
Yeah, bloody good, mate. Just down on the... Having a
beer down the garage? Listen to you guys?
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Oh, yeah. This is it. This is the one, man.
Good on you.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
I've got to go for Lincoln Park.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Yeah, yeah. I knew it. I knew it. Get on you, Tony.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Have a great weekend.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Crank it up, brother.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
Annoy your neighbours. Rib into the beers.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
I love you.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Put him on hold, man.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
He's gone, man. I love you, Tony. We ditched him.
He's gone. He betrayed us.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
He's not coming back.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
He can just do his own thing in his own
little bloody garage and keep his opinion to himself.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
This song will forever be mine and Tony's song. Me
and Tony from Nelson, this is our song.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
Oh, Tony Pepperoni. 3483, what do you think of today's
Friday Throbber?
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Crank it, you dogs.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Yes, indeed, your Friday throbber there, framed by Linkin Park. Faint. Yeah, man.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Big tune there, Mogi, with another one. He's way out
in front now, 15 wins for the year.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Yeah. 15, man. Unassailable, I'd say.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Actually, I'm on 16. Okay.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Am I? No, 15. Okay.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Keezy's second on 10 with one asterisk. Why did I
have an asterisk? Oh, because I played two parts of
a song, two snippets.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
That's right. That was out of it.
Speaker 5 (23:17):
Do you remember that, Jake?
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
Just blatant cheating.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
I mean, we've had some controversy on the old throbber
over the years. I think that was probably the biggest.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
I'd say so.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Me choosing two different snippets. I don't know if it
was the biggest. And, of course, Jase way in the
back on seven with two asterisks and a small D.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
The small d is unrelated to the competition. It's just
an observation.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Yeah, yeah, just when you guys saw me in the
urinal there.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
Yeah, we better mention that every throbber. But, Jase, Mogi
has more than doubled your score. Yeah, that's great, Mogi.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Well done, man. Thanks, mate.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
How are you feeling about it?
Speaker 1 (23:56):
I feel really good about it. I feel really good
for Mogi. Yeah. I think he's been on fire.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Yeah, but what about you, man? Because you've never won
the throbber at the end of the year before, have you?
Speaker 1 (24:05):
No, I never have. And, again, I've got to reiterate–
I'm very excited for Mogi. I think this is his
best year yet.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
I'm going all right, aren't I?
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Yeah, yeah. He's getting better and better.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Have you noticed that?
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Yeah, totally. I'm more concerned. I'm more concerned. That you
haven't had a win in a little while. You're worried
about me, are you?
Speaker 4 (24:24):
Oh, thanks, man. No, it's all good. I mean, I'm
on 10. Mogi's still sort of just on the horizon.
I can still see him.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
But when was your last win? It's been a while.
It feels like a while, that's all.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Woke up this morning by Alabama 3 was my last win.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Yeah, right.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
A couple of months ago.
Speaker 6 (24:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
I think it was last year, maybe. Yeah, maybe.
Speaker 7 (24:44):
Maybe.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
But yeah, it's far out. You're really lagging, aren't you? Seven,
like that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
I'm what you call, Keezy. A loser. A sleeper.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Ah, a sleeper.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Right?
Speaker 5 (24:55):
Yeah, you're asleep at the wheel.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Yeah, and then I, yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
Mouthful of chips.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Can I please? Because they're really nice. Hey, coming up next,
by the way, we're going to be having a bit
of an update on your pigeon.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
My racing pigeon, I bought one for $ 400. It is
racing this weekend. It's fifth race, I believe it is.
So far, it hasn't won anything. It hasn't podiumed. It
hasn't been in the top 15 once. So we're going to,
I believe, get the trainer or someone on the line
and have a bit of a yarn to them. That's
up next after some news, Jase.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
Everyone's a winner.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Except me. I think so.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
in weekdays at four on Radio Hodaki.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Yes, indeed, Bush there on the Hodaki Big Show this
stormy Friday afternoon. Now, regular listeners to the show will
know of the ongoing saga of Keezy's racing pigeon, Keezy
on all wings looking over his beak with me, Keezy.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Would you like me to play the sting?
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Yeah, go on. Keezy on all wings.
Speaker 7 (25:54):
Looking over his beak with me, Keezy.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
My pigeon fellas cost $ 400. I gave it to a
strange man in Timaru named Pigeon Tim.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
I think his name was Tim.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Well, he goes by Pigeon Tim. He prefers Pigeon Tim.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
Oh, does he?
Speaker 6 (26:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
He's raced in a whole heap of races so far.
He came 90th and then like 50th or something and
then a couple of 30s. He seems to be better
over the long distances. And the good news is this
weekend is an absolute stonker. Blenheim to Oamaru, 470 kilometres.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
She's a big job. That's a big job, all right.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
It's huge. And the next closest is 150 kilometres less
than that. And that was the longest so far where...
My pigeon managed to finish in the 30s.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
The good news is, is that Keezy on all wings
looking over his beak with me. Keezy tends to perform
better in the long distances. And also the great news
is we've actually got Keezy on all wings looking over
his beak with me. Keezy on the line now. G'day,
Keezy on all wings looking over his beak with me. Keezy,
how's it going?
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Can you hear me?
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Yeah, we can hear you, mate. Are you in the coop,
are you?
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Yeah, it's pretty noisy here, actually. There's a lot of
other pigeons around.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, fair enough.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Hey, listen, Keezy on all wings looking over his beak
with me. Keezy, big race this weekend, man. Obviously, you know,
you haven't performed amazingly, so I'm kind of counting on
this weekend you doing the business.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Well, why have you got such little faith, Keezy? Like,
I'm just hitting my prime distance. Long distance is where
I'm at. I'm not all hopped up on methamphetamine like
these other pigeons who are doing these short tracks. Long
distance is where it's at for me. So I think
this weekend we're going to bring it home.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
We're going to bring it home, Keezy.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Your best finish so far, Keezy, on all wings, looking
over his beak with me. Keezy has been sort of
in the mid to high 30s. An extra 150k, do
you think that's going to get Keezy in the money here?
Because he was saying some things about you this week.
Worry about your future if you don't deliver over the
course of this weekend, mate.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
Well, I heard the interview, I think it was a
couple of days ago, and they played in the coop here.
And he was saying a lot of terrible things about me.
And I just want to bring up a couple of things, Keezy.
Where has the training process been going on? I've heard
nothing from you.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Yeah, fair call.
Speaker 5 (28:19):
He is a shocking bastard.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
All the other pigeons are getting all this help from
their owners and their trainers, and I'm getting nothing.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
Are you serious? I didn't know I had to train
the pigeon. I thought I just bought you, Keezy, on
all wings, looking over his beak with me, Keezy, and
then you just sort of fly home. Is that not
how it works?
Speaker 3 (28:38):
It's classic. It's classic passing the buck.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Yeah, that's right. You've got to spend money to make money, Keezy.
Can I ask you, Keezy, on all wings, looking over
his beak with me, Keezy, obviously a greater distance, the
biggest distance thus far. Have you been beefing up this week?
Have you been loading up?
Speaker 3 (28:58):
I'll tell you what, there's somebody in this group who's
shared a huge bit of spirally. steroid things with me
yeah i'm feeling it i'm feeling it my my downstairs
is shriveled up but i'm sure like my wings are
at peak performance.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
Well that's kind of the beauty about pigeon racing isn't
it a lot of people won't know this is uh
steroid use is 100 legal is it so we've somewhat
dropped the ball there i've got to ask you a
question i sort of asked this of any long distance
runners uh ultra marathon is that sort of thing when
you need to take a dump what's the plan.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Beautifully to fly. Hopefully it creates some kind of like
some kind of distraction on the pigeons behind you. It's
like a Murray kart kind of um oil split situation so.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
How do you know about mario kart keezy on all
wings looking over his beak with me keezy.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Well the other the other owners have given their pigeons
some training exercises and that's like the competitive nature of
Mario Kart. I've been training on that, but I've got nothing.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
They've been practicing on the Xbox, haven't they?
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Keezy on all wings looking over his beak with me.
Keezy's just been sitting in the corner of the coupe
taking steroids, Keezy. Yeah, right. Okay.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
Well, listen, Keezy on all wings looking over his beak
with me. Keezy, obviously no hard feelings, right? And good
luck for the race this weekend, man.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
And trust the process, Keezy. Trust the process. And if
you can send some kind of.
A little bit extra down this weekend I've blown all
my money this week on a bit of a Tuesday
blowout but if you can just send something down so
that I can look after myself for the next couple
of days that'd be great Cool.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Okay, so my pigeon's hung over. It's actually great. Okay, well,
to be fair, that's pretty fitting. Good luck for the race, mate,
and we'll be keeping a close eye on you, all right?
Speaker 2 (30:42):
The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike, and Keezy. Tune
in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
I think I'll have myself a beer.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
The Radio Hodaki Big Show. Name our beer.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Yeah, baby.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Woo!
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Feeling those Friday vibes. It's going off, man. Cut some
shapes for us. Go on, turn it up.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
Can you crank that up?
Speaker 1 (31:06):
Yeah, here you go. It's as loud as it goes.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Yeah, dance it.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
And four more. Yeah, boy. And three more.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
Uh-huh.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
And two more. Yeah. And one more. Let's go again.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
Backbone of aerobics.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Now, yes, we need you to name our beer thanks
to our good mates at Emerson's who are on board again, eh, fellas?
Speaker 4 (31:27):
Certainly are, Jase. They, of course, heavily involved with the
2026 Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival. It's happening again
two days, Friday, November 27th, Saturday, November 28th at Forsyth Bar.
Over 75 beer, food and beverage vendors. Shapeys are playing.
Troy Kingy's going to be there. Red Fountain and Park
Road as well.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Bloody good.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
A huge event gets bigger and bigger every single year,
and every year as well, Emerson's makes a special Big
Show beer. This year it is a tropical hazy pale ale,
and it just needs a name.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
That's all it needs, man. It's got everything else, it
just needs a name. We've got the beer, we've got
the bottles. G'day Gary, you mad bastard, how's life?
Speaker 6 (32:06):
Oh, good thanks fellas, how's it going?
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Yeah, good thanks. Mate, you got a big Friday night
planned there, Gaz?
Speaker 3 (32:13):
A bit of vino with a missus.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Oh, very right.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
What do you go for in the vino department, Gez,
you sicko?
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Probably a nice Merlot.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Oh, Merlot. You romantic bastard, you.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
Hey, Gary, what name have you got for our delicious beer, man?
Speaker 3 (32:32):
I went for Jason's Hazy Jizz.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
Right, and you'd be happy drinking a beer called Jason's
Hazy Jizz?
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Oh, mate. I'll look forward to it.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
Good stuff, Gary. You hold the line, brother. You got
yourself an Emerson's hoodie, all right?
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Woo-hoo.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Thanks, boys.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
No worries, mate.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Have a good evening.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
That sounds yum, Jase.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
Is the BSA still going or no?
Speaker 4 (33:00):
What, the broadcasting? No, I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
I think it's all G.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Do you have a big frothing pint of that, Jase? Hey,
DunedinBearFestival.co.nz if you want tickets, by the way.
Speaker 8 (33:14):
We'll see you down there.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Jeez. What?
Speaker 2 (33:26):
His face no more.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Welcome back, you massive bag bones. Hope your Friday's absolutely
going off. You're listening to The Big Show, incidentally brought
to you by Reburger. Oh, are you?
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Crave with your street food freshly made with Reburger.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Scrumdiddlyumptious.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
Old Keezy over here, he's putting on a brave face.
Kia kaha, man. I'm really proud of you.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Thank you. Yeah. Thanks, Mogi.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
He's proud of me, Jason.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
I am.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
Are you proud of me, man? Because he's so hung.
I mean, this might be the most hung I've ever
seen Keezy. It definitely is not. Just so bad.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Yeah. Shocking. As I say, I am literally battling within
myself at the moment to not.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
What?
Speaker 1 (34:13):
We're really proud of you, Keezy.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
What are you having for dinner tonight, Jase?
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Well, this is an interesting one. I bet it's hard.
I guarantee it's boring. My wife is going to a
gig tonight.
Speaker 5 (34:28):
Oh, giggity, giggity, giggity.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
And my daughter's coming back from being away, so I
might make her a chicken korma. You won't.
Speaker 6 (34:38):
Yeah, I will.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Got all the ingredients for it. Or I'll just Uber
some stuff in. There we go. Now we're talking. Yeah.
Or I might just pick up a takeaway on the
way home.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
What are you going to have, Keezy? Because, of course,
you're hung. You're a piece of.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
And you've already eaten like four burgers and... five bowls
of dumplings.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Yeah nine meals I've had friends of ours are coming
over for dance night actually oh yeah you'll be loving
that but we're keeping it chill we're just going to
do take out so we're going to go to our
local Thai joint I'm going to get oyster sauce beef
stir fry yeah with cashew on rice yeah a gang
panang red curry yes with chicken nice medium spice nice
(35:20):
nice just trying to figure out what third dish.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Is what's everyone else going to have We're splitting.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
It between four of us, Jase, the three dishes, all right?
Maybe a pad thai, maybe a sort of peanut chicken.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:32):
And why don't you just sit on the couch sort
of fuming?
Speaker 4 (35:34):
Oh, I'm in bed. I'm in bed playing Game Boy.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
Doosh, doosh.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Until you go to your sleepover with the fellas tomorrow morning.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
Yeah, you've got to save your energy for the fellas.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
They're really going to take it out of you.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Yeah, good. Cool. Bit of sport chat next, fellas.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
Yeah!
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Yeah, man, yeah! Here's Soundgarden.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
in weekdays at four on Radio Hodaki.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
Yes, indeed, the hives there on the Radio Hodaki Big
Show this Friday evening. The time, 13 minutes past six o'clock. Fellas,
let's talk sport. Oh!
Speaker 5 (36:22):
Sports.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Sporty, sporty, sport.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
Why don't we start with Fellas the Warriors?
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Sporty, sporty, sport.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
Well, that's first, isn't it, Keezy? Tomorrow afternoon, 5pm at
Mount Smart Stadium, the Warriors go up against the Manly Seagulls.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Don't they, Keezy?
Speaker 5 (36:39):
We've just had news that Leke Halasema is out with
a minor ankle niggle, which is bad news for him,
but he'll be back the following weekend, Jase. Don't you fret, brother.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
I was fretting, too.
Speaker 5 (36:50):
And outside of that, you've got Wade Egan's been rested.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Who else?
Speaker 5 (36:55):
Somebody in the Fords. Kurt Capewell. Kurt Capewell, that's right.
How are you feeling about this one, Keezy?
Speaker 4 (37:01):
I'm indifferent, to be honest.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
Can I ask you about how you feel about the
minor premiership, which is... The minor premiers are the team
that lands the finishes on top of the table at
the end of regular season.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
I don't give a shit about it.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Neither do I.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
I literally don't care. They talk about.
Speaker 5 (37:17):
The money they get won. It's a hundred grand. It's
a pittance. And they split it between everyone, which is cool. Yeah,
it goes to the club.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Which is fine. And it is cool that you get
the minor premiership. But I couldn't tell you, last year
the Panthers were number one?
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Nah.
Speaker 6 (37:34):
Who?
Speaker 5 (37:34):
You'll remember when I tell you this, and you'll remember
for all the wrong reasons... The Canberra Raiders were the
minor premiers, and they went out in straight sets.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
That's right.
Speaker 5 (37:42):
They rested a whole bunch of players. The week before,
I think it was against the Dolphins. Dolphins put like
40 or 50 on. It wouldn't have been 50, but
smashed them to bits. And then the following week, I
think they played the Broncos. Yeah, the Broncos came back.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
A hell of a game.
Speaker 5 (37:57):
One of the great games for Reece Walsh.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Great postseason.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Yeah, it was out of the gate.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
So no, I don't give a shit at all.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Not at all.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
And to be honest, we're first or second regardless of
what happens, which I'm stoked about. I will just be
watching it as a slightly steamed, massive fan of the Whas.
Speaker 5 (38:08):
Yeah, it's going to be a bloody ripper.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Hey, the All Blacks are playing on Sunday morning again
against the Box.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
10 past 3.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Three changes, I believe, there's been. Asafa Omua.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
Asafa Omua, the hooker.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
He's replaced. And old Taylor's been dropped. Cody Taylor, yeah.
And he's a bloody good player. He is. And I
don't know if this is an injury, but it must
be because he's been an absolute legend. We've got Sam
Dowie coming in at lock. Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
Well, the reason why they've decided, and this will be
the first cap for Sam Dowie, Dave Rennie said that
the beauty of Sam Dowie is he's got a massive
engine on him. He goes and goes and goes. Yes.
And given the style of game that they hope to
be playing at, what do you call that there?
Speaker 1 (38:57):
Altitude.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
Altitude, thank you very much. They think that'll really play
into their favour, so that's played a fairly big part
in that selection, Jase.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
Yeah, it's going to be another cracker, let's be honest.
There's been a real war of words between the coaches.
They don't like each other very much, and I like that.
Speaker 5 (39:13):
Yeah, it provides a few stories, doesn't it, which is great.
And this is a three-tier series in South Africa. This
one is the one that matters.
Speaker 6 (39:21):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (39:21):
If one of the teams is 2-1 up, And then
they go over to Baltimore in a couple of weeks,
whenever that is, and they have those four tests. it
doesn't matter if they square it up. It's the three-test
series in South Africa.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
This is the one that matters.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
I agree.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
Johannesburg, 3.10 a.m. Sunday morning. Are you watching that live, fellas?
Speaker 5 (39:41):
No, I'll get up because it'll be Father's Day there,
so I'll get up in the morning and have a croissant, coffee.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Watch that bastard.
Speaker 5 (39:49):
Yeah, same.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
It's going to be absolutely magnificent, Keith.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Prime will scream there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show
this stormy, blustery and wet Friday evening. And dear.
Speaker 7 (40:04):
And dear.
Speaker 5 (40:05):
Fellas, I've had an interesting thing come up. I've had
an opportunity. come across my desk there, and I'm going
to be commentating the Warriors game tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Wow, how good.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
Warriors versus Manly, 5 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Very, very excited
about it. I've done a fair amount of commentary before, Jase,
with yourself, a little bit with you as well there, Keezy,
but there's mostly been cricket, probably entirely cricket.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Probably all cricket, yeah.
Speaker 5 (40:32):
I think all cricket. So I haven't done the Warriors before,
and so... I just thought I should hit you guys up.
I'm a little bit nervous about it because you don't
want to bugger it up.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
No.
Speaker 5 (40:40):
Are you at the stadium? I'm at the stadium.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
Wow, that's cool.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
I'm in the box right next door to the away
team's coach's box. So that's going to be interesting. A
hell of a vantage point up there. And, dear, what
an honour.
Speaker 4 (40:53):
Yeah, it's an amazing honour.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
It's a rare privilege.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
It is because I've done it a few times from
there back when the ACC and Sky were friends.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
And it was one of the, like– it's one of
the best things I've done in my career purely because
I love a team so much. I'm sitting in the box.
It was the Sharks, Craig Fitzgibbon and the assistant coaches
were literally next to us and passed them in the
hallway a couple of times and you're calling a game
at Mount Smiley. It's a dream come true.
Speaker 5 (41:17):
Now, normally for me, and that's exactly right, Keezy, I
feel exactly the same way. I cannot believe this opportunity.
I'm so over the moon about it and normally I
don't like going to the games because I like to
stay home and watch it on TV so I can
swear and F and Jeff and all that sort of
thing which I can't do. I can't do that at
the game. So, But this is too good. So I
just wanted to ask your advice, especially you, Jase, on
(41:41):
what I should do to prepare.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
Well, he would have no idea.
Speaker 5 (41:45):
Because I guess it's a little bit different. Just give
us a minute here, Keezy, man. Because I guess the
preparation is slightly different than what it would be around cricket.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
Yeah. Oh, look, I've done them all. Netball? Yeah, netball
is where I started off, Keezy.
Speaker 5 (42:01):
He started off netballing when you were still at school,
didn't you?
Speaker 4 (42:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (42:05):
Just commentating the local games. What coverage was that?
Speaker 1 (42:14):
But I obviously was over the intercom at our school.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
High school, yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
Obviously a big occasion, a massive opportunity for you here, Mogey. And,
you know, I understand there would be a few nerves.
It's only natural. It means you care about it.
Speaker 6 (42:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
The first thing I would suggest is a few beersies.
Speaker 5 (42:38):
Oh, don't worry about that.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
A couple of settlers. Yeah. Just, you know, and depending
on what your sort of constitution's like, three or four
or five or six of those. Yeah. Pre-game. Responsibly. Responsibly,
of course, of course. And then just sort of block
them out every 10 minutes from there. You know what
I mean?
Speaker 5 (42:56):
We've got a bar next door, so I'm going to
get down there. I think it opens around midday.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
Lily World, great spot.
Speaker 5 (43:00):
So just a little, you know, get the shakes a
little bit, I do. And so just a couple of
straighteners there.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Yeah, I think so. And the advantage is, too, you
can hang out there for an hour or two before
the game. I didn't realise there was a bar there.
Speaker 5 (43:12):
Yeah, five hours.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
And you get the vibe of the fans. You get
the vibe and the atmosphere with a few beersies with
the locals. Good stuff.
Speaker 5 (43:21):
Yeah, no, I think that'll be good. And I don't think,
you know, I'm just going to try and make it entertaining.
I mean, the people that we're doing it for are
actually in the United Kingdom.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
Right, okay.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
Funnily enough. Yes.
Speaker 5 (43:32):
And I think they're quite a serious rugby league team.
Set up. But, you know, I thought we'd give it
a bit of the ACC treatment, you know.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (43:40):
Here's old sideline comments mogi from in the box. He's
absolutely hammered.
Speaker 4 (43:44):
Wait, so this is this warrior's life, right?
Speaker 1 (43:47):
The podcast. Great guys.
Speaker 4 (43:50):
And they've managed to bag this opportunity.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
For UK coverage.
Speaker 5 (43:53):
Great podcast.
Speaker 4 (43:54):
And you're going to show up wasted and provide colour
commentary and turn it into an ACC commentary.
Speaker 5 (43:59):
Oh, there'll be colour, right?
Speaker 4 (44:01):
I reckon that's a great idea.
Speaker 1 (44:02):
Yeah, totally.
Speaker 5 (44:03):
Well, it just sort of feels like.
If anything goes wrong, it's not my problem.
Speaker 1 (44:08):
Totally. Who cares? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (44:10):
So the guys from This Warrior's Life, they're really taking
it seriously, and I just sort of feel like, Just
drink your way through it.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
And I'll be honest with you, Mogi. I'll be honest
with you, mate. There's so many podcasts around. You know,
if this turns into a disaster, you know, he's out
effing and jeffing after a few beersies or whatever, don't
worry about it, man. There'll be another opportunity somewhere down
the line.
Speaker 5 (44:28):
Yeah, man.
Speaker 4 (44:28):
You'll find a podcast soon.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Go in guns blazing. Thanks, man. You know what I mean?
Just don't hold back. Be true to yourself. Oh, I
appreciate that. Wild Child.
Speaker 4 (44:38):
It's the name of the song from the Black Keys.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
Oh!
Speaker 2 (44:41):
The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
Speaker 1 (44:45):
Pixies here on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Friday evening.
We're heading into the weekend, fellas, so let's give out
some much-needed advice. Be pretty nips 69 at gmail.com. Get
in touch with the fellas. With the fellas.
Speaker 6 (45:04):
With the fellas.
Speaker 5 (45:05):
Fellas, why don't we stop singing to that?
Speaker 4 (45:08):
You decided to stop singing.
Speaker 5 (45:09):
Did I? Because Jase kept yelling.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
No, no, no. That wasn't it. It was because.
Speaker 5 (45:14):
Pugs complained that we were ruining the song.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Yeah, yeah, we were ruining it.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
Or you complained that we were ruining the song. No,
it was more Keezy. It was Keezy complaining.
Speaker 4 (45:18):
Because you started singing. You were singing really well at
first and then you just started going.
Speaker 5 (45:23):
Which had a real charm to it, I thought. Certainly
it had a.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
A charm to it?
Speaker 4 (45:28):
Hey, fellas, great questions come in here to meetpaddynips69 at gmail.com.
Do you want to answer this one, Keezy? No, no,
you guys are all G. This one's anonymous, of course.
If we read it on the show, $ 50 reberg about you.
Speaker 5 (45:38):
You can have a turn, man.
Speaker 4 (45:39):
No, this is actually specifically good for you two.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (45:43):
G'day, fellas.
Speaker 1 (45:44):
If it's age-related, I'll be fuming.
Speaker 6 (45:47):
G'day, fellas.
Speaker 4 (45:48):
I'm 80. Nah, I'm just joking. G'day, fellas. My wife
and I are about to have our first baby.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
Oh, God.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
And I'm wanting to know when a reasonable and responsible
period of time after the birth that I could go
and play some golf. My wife is an avid listener,
so I'm really hoping the fellas can back me up
here and put in a good word. Keep in mind,
this will probably be a good chat for Keezy as
he'll be having his baby in no time as well.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Cheers, Anonymous. Well, he names you, man. He names you.
So he's absolutely right.
Speaker 6 (46:13):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
Well, I'm not having a baby, by the way. Let's
just say you were.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Why?
Speaker 1 (46:17):
Why don't we just use it on EG? No, I'm
just saying, isn't it? Okay, fine. From your perspective, when
would you feel most comfortable going and having a thwack
with old Hoity J? Oh, with you? Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (46:32):
Oh, I reckon I'd have to give it like five years. No,
I reckon it's hard to say.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
I'm not a dad.
Speaker 4 (46:37):
You guys have been dads.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
Have been.
Speaker 4 (46:40):
And continue to be dads.
Speaker 3 (46:42):
Well.
Speaker 1 (46:43):
Oh, you all right, man? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (46:46):
Can you go and pat him on the back? He's choking.
Speaker 6 (46:49):
Get him, man.
Speaker 5 (46:50):
Go and cough him. Cough him up. There you go, man.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
Harder.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
Harder.
Speaker 5 (46:56):
Harder than that.
Speaker 1 (46:57):
I would, I think from recollection when my firstborn was born,
it was three years before I played my next game.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
What?
Speaker 1 (47:10):
Yeah but but having said that you weren't big into
it though were you no i hadn't started playing at
that stage so it was i started three years after
she was born.
Speaker 4 (47:20):
Right so it literally doesn't apply is what you're saying
what about you mogi because it's a four or five
hour commitment.
Speaker 5 (47:27):
Well the funny thing about it is you're probably your
best off you can you see what you think about
this jace You spend a day, maybe two, at the
hospital just for a little bit of recovery and then
you've got the terrifying drive home with your baby on
board for the first time. Absolutely terrifying. You're driving along
(47:48):
at about three kilometres an hour, actually increasing your chances
of crashing, weirdly enough. And then you get the kid home. Really,
drop them off on the porch, have your clubs in
the boot and then just go.
Speaker 4 (48:01):
Oh, really?
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Straight away? 100% because you'll find.
Speaker 5 (48:05):
That for the first six weeks, the baby is just
asleep 100% of the time. It wakes up for a feed,
but there's nothing you can do to help there.
Speaker 4 (48:13):
So you might as well play golf.
Speaker 5 (48:14):
The thing about it is, by the time it gets
to this point, baby pregnant, birth, got it home, everyone's
at home.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (48:24):
You've done your job, man. You're good to go. You've
got probably 18 months to three and a half years
before you have to do anything, really. It's really once
the sort of sports stuff comes in.
Speaker 4 (48:36):
Don't you provide support and stuff to the mum?
Speaker 5 (48:38):
Yeah, but that can all be done via text.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
Oh, right. Okay, I didn't know that. It's probably a
good time in that scenario to buy a membership. You
know what I mean? Yeah, like a full year. Yeah,
like a full year membership. Because you're going to have
a lot of free time. It's a pretty lonely business,
isn't it, sometimes?
Speaker 5 (48:57):
Can I say when your wife or girlfriend posts on Instagram,
like all the baby photos and everything like that, Make
sure you like and comment so she feels like you're participating.
Speaker 1 (49:07):
That's a good shout, fellas.
Speaker 4 (49:08):
Well, there you go. I hope that helps.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
All the best for that, by the way. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (49:12):
Let us know how it goes.
Speaker 4 (49:14):
Meet PaddyNip69 at gmail.com if you ever need help.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4pm. on Radio Hauraki.
Speaker 1 (49:37):
I reckon we should extend this last breakout for as
long as possible because Keezy's back. He's loving it. He's
desperate to get over it. He's like, can you just
shush up and get over that?
Speaker 4 (49:52):
But for some reason, you decide you're going to go
really big on the last break and really drag it out. Like,
just let's get this thing.
Speaker 1 (49:57):
Done, man. Okay. Now, listen, we do the disclaimer, which
is a bonus podcast. What's the clip today, Keezy?
Speaker 4 (50:04):
Today's bonus podcast clip is called Public Shaming, and it
comes out at 7.30 tonight wherever you get your podcasts from.
Speaker 5 (50:10):
Now, before you play that, Keezy, man, What? How's it
all going?
Speaker 4 (50:15):
Yeah, good, man.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (50:18):
I get there to pick up my order. It's not
ready yet, though. I haven't even started cooking it yet.
So I have to sit there for 10 minutes. And
I'm just sitting there, and then I just hear this like.
Speaker 1 (50:25):
Do-doosh, do-doosh.
Speaker 4 (50:27):
And this prick is driving past in his car yelling
do-doosh at me. And I'm just like, f * * *
ing hell. I just want to have my shameful hungover food.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
In peace.
Speaker 5 (50:41):
In peace. If you listen to the podcast, you'll find
out what that is. If you can get in touch
with the Hauraki Big Show, that fella, we'll get him
out a backbone T-shirt because he is absolutely done, Keezy, there. Yeah, totally.
Speaker 4 (50:52):
This isn't a thing, Mogi. Mogi's trying to make it
he's done you there. Specifically me.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
Nah, anyone.
Speaker 5 (50:58):
It can be anyone.
Speaker 4 (50:59):
What about we get T-shirts made of He's done you there, Keezy,
and it's me on all fours looking over my shoulder.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
I think that'll sell really well, actually.
Speaker 5 (51:10):
Can somebody out there make that image for us? We've
got some great images getting made. Make that image for us.
Send it through to old Pugs on there.
Speaker 4 (51:17):
And Pugs will get it.
Speaker 5 (51:17):
And Pugs will get it made into a T-shirt in
a couple of years.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
Make your plans for tonight the weekend.
Speaker 5 (51:24):
I'll be honest with you, man. I've got a bit
of a– I'm pretty keen to get on it. Yeah, okay.
But I've got a day in front of me tomorrow,
so I'll try and restrain myself. Then the other thing is,
of course, I've got Father's Day on Sunday there.
Speaker 1 (51:37):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (51:38):
So I can be a little bit hungover that day
if I want to be.
Speaker 1 (51:41):
Yeah, totally.
Speaker 5 (51:41):
But I might want to have a lovely day with
the family.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (51:44):
I haven't decided. Of course, the other option is, of course,
I've got to watch the rugby there on Sunday morning,
and I'm going to watch that with a croissant and
a little cup of coffee there, and yeah.
Speaker 1 (51:57):
What are you doing this weekend, Jase? Well, I don't know.
It's your turn, Keezy. No, you're not going last. You're
not going last. You've got your boys weekend tomorrow. I'm
worried about this. 20 dudes getting together at 10 o'clock
tomorrow out in Clevedon.
Speaker 4 (52:12):
For the official blessing of the Dobros. Yes, apparently, whatever
that means.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
Right.
Speaker 4 (52:16):
And we've all pitched in to fly a bloke up
from Christchurch as of tonight as well. So he's stoked,
which is lovely.
Speaker 1 (52:23):
Yeah, that's lovely. Really good. What are you doing, Jase? Oh,
this is the thing. You know, it's funny because... Hey, we'll.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
Be back Monday.
Speaker 1 (52:32):
Especially with weekends. We'll be back Monday. Keezy, please! I'm
in this really weird position, actually, at the moment, where...
Because my wife's going to a show tonight, and it's like,
do we meet before her show? And my daughter's coming home,
so I'm just trying to figure out... Do I cook
some food and see if she wants to do that,
(52:53):
or do I just let my wife go to a
show and then my daughter and I maybe get something?
But then on the Sunday, we were meant to be
having lunch with a mate of ours, but she's got
the flu. And I think tomorrow my wife and I
