Speaker 1 (00:01):
For all you mad bastards running the Big Show podcast,
get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Or raw doggies. Four to seven every weekday. On Radio
Hotech here. Oh, good night.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Hello.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
How are you going, fellas? You all good?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Much better today. I was down in the dumps yesterday, fellas.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Were you? I'm back. Oh, that's good, man. I'm back today.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
I don't have many down in the dumps days. What
were you down in the dumps about? Just a bit
of stuff going on.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Just life, man.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Just life, you know? Just people, man, you know?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
The one thing I will say, Mogi, and the good
thing about life is everything passes. Everything does. Even the
shit stuff. And even the good stuff. So even when
you're having a great day, just know this.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
There's a shitter.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
There is an absolute shocker coming your way.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
That's right. So don't enjoy the highs. No.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
But just know that when you're sitting that low, possibly–
A high is coming.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, but right after that high, another fucking low, way
worse than this one.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
What I like to do is really indulge in the
lows and really wallow in it. And then when I'm
going through a really good patch and I'm high, the
whole time I think, oh, this isn't going to last.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah, can't expect this to last.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, this is going to fall apart very soon.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Genuinely, my brain is the complete opposite of that. Yeah.
So I'll be like, hi, hi, hi. This is normal.
This is normal that a bad thing happens. I'll be like, what?
They'll be like, hey, we're back again.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
But it is interesting. You're one or the other, aren't you?

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Who, me personally? No, everyone. Yeah, well, of course.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Why be one or the other?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
I'm happy.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah. Positive. I'm positive.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
I'm a positive person as well.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
I'm certainly not, Dave.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
I'm positive, but I've also, I just don't. It doesn't
bother me. You know, like bad stuff will come along.
It's like, that's okay.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
I'm okay with that.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
I'm very much like that now. I mean, not all
the time.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Much better.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
But most of the time I'm like, oh, well.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
What the fuck. You used to be very anxious.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yes, I was.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
About things. Yes. You've done a lot of work, Jase,
over these last few years.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
And now I'm like, that's all good, man. Yeah. KZ
will sort it out for me.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
And it's not all good. No, of course it's not.
But at least you're able to look at it from a– Oh, God.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Oh, no.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
You know, you're not doom and gloom in it.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
No, not at all.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Oh, g'day, Matt.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Oh, hi, mate, yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Look, if you want the chance to win all our
on-air competitions and stuff and get amongst the live conversation,
tune in to the Hauraki Big Show, four to seven
weekdays on Radio Hauraki and iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
The Hauraki Big Show podcast. I found recently... that I
am a very happy, very chill person, but it's because
I've worked very hard to make my surroundings very secure. Yeah.
You know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
As soon as anything fucks with it, you're in trouble.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Well, that's why right now, because I've sold my house,
and I'm looking for a new one. Nothing's come up.
I don't have anywhere to live in a couple of months,
and I'm like, fuck.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yeah, that wouldn't bother me at all.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
And then, Jase, the other day we were at golf.
He was talking about going from working paycheck to paycheck.
like of acting gigs and stuff to then moving into
radio and it being a secure thing. And I was like,
I can't fucking imagine just sitting there like, man, I
hope another acting job comes along.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Could never do it. It would fucking do my head in.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
And go for months. Well, no, I was very lucky
because I had a lot of voice work as well.
which really tired me over.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
But even that, you don't know if there is another way.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Well, that's right. But the thing was, and I've talked
about this before, but the difficult thing was you'd do
a job and then it would take two months to
be paid.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
And then you're fucked. That's right.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
That's right. And then there's also, and this is kind
of contract stuff, and I still have these conversations with
my mates now who work in film, where you don't
know if there's another film coming in.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
No.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
And if it does come in, you don't know if
you're going to get a job on it. And so
and then often what happens is you've got X amount
of time off, but you don't know how long that
you're going to get another job. But you don't know
when that job is. And I'm talking contracting. So working
is on set or in production or something like that.
And then you get a phone call. It's like, can
you start on Monday? So you haven't been able to
enjoy any of that time off because you think, ah, fuck,

(04:16):
maybe I've got six months off. Maybe I've got three.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
You're treading water almost.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Well, you're just being careful because you don't know how
long the money's got to last. But if you knew
going between, it's going to be a month. It's like, fuck,
I'm going to have an awesome holiday for a month. Yes.
It is stressful. It is a stressful thing.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Like it's great because you've got a bit of freedom
if you want it.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
And it used to be that you would get paid
a lot more than you got in the normal world,
but that's not the case anymore in film.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
That's true too. Unless you work.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Fuck loads of hours. And that's the other thing in
film is a normal week is 25% longer than a
civilian job. So a normal week in film is 50 hours.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
10 hours a day. You think, so fuck, I'm rolling it.
But any job, if you chucked another 25%. salary on
top of it, you're probably going to go all right.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Like my daughter works as crew in film and stuff.
Fuck they work long hours, man. She's exhausted all of
the time. It's just hardcore. She's there at like 5.30
in the morning. She leaves at 6.30, 7 at night.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
So similar to us then.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, similar to us. They've got to pack everything in,
sort everything out. The actor's swanning, oh, I'm so over it. Oh,
that's you.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
That's you.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Oh, I can't be bothered. Somebody get me a coffee.
You do your scene, you're brilliant, and then you leave.
And then, you know, the crew.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
And then before you know it, you've gone from number
nine on the call sheet.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
To 44. Fuck.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
It's an oddly specific brand.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
I was so fucking fired up today on the computer
trying to sort shit out, right?

Speaker 3 (05:51):
I wish I was there, man.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
You know what I did? This is truly what I did.
I went online and went rental property, Russell.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Russell.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Because there's some fucking beautiful places out there. You should
look up there, Kenzie.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
I've got a story for you, but I can't tell
it on here.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Sorry, so that was all because of, are you going
to talk about this yarn on the radio?

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Well, yes, I can.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
I think you should.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
I put it in the chat, but I don't want
to be specific about what job it is.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
And in actual fact, to be fair, it's not just
this job. It's the way it is now. With everything.
With everything. It's like, can you fill out this? Can
you do this? Can you do that? Just confirming.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
No, I can't.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
You having to put a password in to log into
a site was enough to make you look up rental
properties in Russell.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
It was a bit more involved than that, Keezy, and
it wasn't just one thing I had to do. And
there was no password. There was no password. For fuck's sake,
there was no password.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Did you log into the rental property site?

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yes, I did. That was fine.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Did you have your password?

Speaker 2 (06:56):
And I tell you what, there was, and I kid
you not, it was like the first- Where was that?

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Rental properties in- Russell. Yeah, good on you.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
The first property I looked at was like my dream
come true. It was a little cottage.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Have you got jokes going through your head now, Keezy?

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Something about moving in with a guy called Russell, but
that's all I've got.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
It was a little cottage right next to the beach.
And I just went, ah, fuck. It was 500. Wendy J.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Cottaging with Russell.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
$ 580 a week. And I went, I.
Gamed it out.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Living with six other people. Six other young professionals.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
How long would I last?

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Now, this is the trouble, isn't it, is that you've
got to fill up the coffers again. Unfortunately. Well, you
and I are going to die soon, Jase. It's not
soon enough, some would say. Not soon enough.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
But also, I think old hoity J, you should go
and live up there for like a month or some shit.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yeah, maybe.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
You know what I mean? Like, go get a short-term
rental or something.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Well, no, actually, but having said that, I mean, I
only do that when I'm massively stressed out. I love
being in the CBD. It's great. It's awesome.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
I think going from, for example, your family batch to
the CBD is quite nice because you can switch off
and then come back and it's alive and then switch
off again.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yeah. We were meant to go to the batch this weekend,
my wife and I, but she forgot to ask her dad.
And I think someone else is there now. Fuck.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
You must have been fuming. How was that around the
Horty house? It would have been fucking quiet coming from
old Horty J. Old Horty J is keeping his lips sealed.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
I saw his wife apparently after the bollocking she got.
She was so stressed, she started looking up rental properties
in Russell.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
No, it would be Coromandel for her.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Would it?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yeah, I'm going to go to the Coromandel this year.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Beautiful.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
I haven't been for years. Yes. Decades.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Like when?

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Honestly, late January is going to be my aim.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yeah, after. Nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah. After.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
It fucking rules. I love Cook's Beach, man.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Yeah, I haven't been there, honestly, since I was 17
years old. We went and stayed at Hahei. Yeah, it's
pretty packed now. Yeah, we got a, we were staying
at a camping ground, met a bunch of mates. What
year was that?

Speaker 2 (09:06):
I can't remember.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
And then got the ferry over the road and the
exponents were playing on this particular night.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Oh, how good.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
So we got in there about midday. One of our mates,
two of our mates went on a, like a ride
in a little airplane.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Sick.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Little fucking acrobatic number or something. Was that in Whitianga?
This was, they did it from the Hahe. Oh mate,
Whitianga it was.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Yeah, that's where the airfield is. Or it's Pawanui is
the other airfield.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
You'd be right.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Because we came from Hahe and we came across the
water there.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
And you went across the ferry. So that's mean.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
So Cooks Beach and Hahe are cool. Cooks is my
favourite because you can drive, hop on the ferry for
seven bucks, go to Whitianga, go to the pub, nice dinner, blah, blah, blah.
And then that ferry back across to Cooks Beach where
it's chill again.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Yeah. Just on that, by the way, a really good
friend of my wife's, who she worked with, said to
her this week, actually, they've got a place in Cooks Beach.
And they said, if you guys ever want to use it,
help yourself.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
And does that extend to us?

Speaker 2 (09:59):
No. That's great.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
That sounds good. I'm keen.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Because we can go there and get hammered.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Yeah, totally.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Well, speaking of hammered, so we went to this pub
while we waited for our mates to go on the flight.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
I drank 10 jugs in two and a half hours.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
When was this?

Speaker 3 (10:13):
When I was 17.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Right. And 10, like the plastic.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
10 one litres.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
So 30 beers. And the locals, because it was just
a pub, you know. Yes. They were quite impressed by
us because we drank like animals. Yes. But then I
passed out in a cubicle in their toilet for four hours.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
They could not move me. Door locked. I'm in there.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
I am out.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
I am comatose.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Are your pants down?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
No, no, no.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
I knew what I was doing. I went in there
and puked for a while and then nice cold porcelain
on the face. Nothing quite like it.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
A little bit of a lie down.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Nothing quite like it. And then I went back in
the car, had a sleep over there. Then came back
over completely sober now for the exponents. But all my
mates are still there and they are hammered now. They've
been drinking for 11 hours.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
And you're like, fuck these guys.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Look at these lads.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Come on, guys. Pull yourself together. For God's sake.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yeah, and then we ended up going back, did that,
then went and slept in the car overnight. And then
in the morning, one of the boys drove, actually woke
up in the morning and one of our mates was missing.
We're like, where is he?

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Where is he?

Speaker 3 (11:19):
And there was a toilet block, a public toilet over
the road.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
And we went around and he was passed out. on
the other side of this toilet block. He wasn't in
the car. I'm like, what were you doing? He goes, oh, man,
I just woke up. I just woke up, but I
didn't know where I was. And I was just walking around.
He was walking round and around this public toilet looking
for the zip. He thought it was the tent.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
So he was looking for the zip. And the reason
why we stopped there was because one of the boys
drove and got done DUI. Right.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Wow. Not good.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Not good.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
No.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
We all fell asleep in the car and then woke
up and the cops had pulled us over.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
No good. Well, do you be looking to recreate that
in late Jan?

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Yeah. Yeah, I'll be looking for the zip.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
I used to go.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Looking for the zip.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
That's fucking shockingly bad.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
I thought he meant the zip in his pants to
go piss.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
No.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Without a tent flap.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
We used to go to Pawanui for our holidays when
we were kids. And I hadn't been back there for ages.
Went back there and.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Went, what the fuck? Completely changed. It's a suburb.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It's a subdivision, yeah. It's like Omaha.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
And Jerry Wells owns... 57 houses there.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Yeah, that doesn't surprise you, does it? All one, I
can't remember.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Yeah, all one.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
One or the other.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
One or the other.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Hey, listen to the big show, 4-7 weekdays, Radio Hauraki.
Good listening.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Good on you.
