Speaker 2 (00:24):
Rerap.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
I'll go there and welcome to the Rewrap for Fay.
Like you're saying, it's Friday, It's not Friday, it's Thursday.
And this is just so offensive to you if you
are working tomorrow anyway, what are we doing? What the
hell are we doing? We're marking the week because it's Thursday.
See that that makes it even more confession, doesn't it
Fridays when we do that the week? But get directly

(00:48):
move on. A cabinet reshuffle is happening because there's a
couple of people who aren't turning up after the election.
They have to be replaced, the downfall of both all
all Birds and me though things that seem like a
good idea at the time, and then we'll finish up
trying to get Mike interested in one of the most
historic space missions of all time. But before any of that, yeah,

(01:11):
let's just have a little check on how that whole
Iran epic fury things going.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
A little bit early. I mean, given it's a short week,
but at four and a halfish weeks into epic fury,
a reason to be depressed and a reason to be hopeful.
Bad news. First, this hasn't been a great week for
the Americans. They've been left with talks that may or
may not be happening, in a lot of rhetoric that
sounds like last week's rhetoric. We've won. There's nothing left.
We could leave any time. Except the missiles that fall
on Israel seem to indicate that for a place that's

(01:37):
been bombed to flattness, they keep finding things to fire.
And that's before you got to the hacking of Cash
Betel's phone, which was just plain embarrassing. Trump's demeanor didn't
help either. A winner doesn't whine, and man has he
whined a lot this week, to the point it appears
he will end the war as predicted, but has worked
up a narrative that allows him to avoid the small
issue of hermus which is of course why he's whining.

(01:57):
He's cocked it up one way or another. The fact
they didn't see the Gulf States being attacked and didn't
see a waterway being used as ransom will go down
in the US military history as yet another interventionist cockup.
Timeline bit of a worry. Two to three weeks fits
in roughly with the four to six weeks trouble, though
if you follow Trump, he uses the two to three
weeks line a lot on a lot of different things that,

(02:19):
as it turns out, don't take two to three weeks,
almost as though he's making it up as he goes along.
Also not great isnt Nyahu who claim they were a
bid over halfway as far as targets go, which is
not two to three weeks, given it's almost five. But
good news. The Auranian president has said they will stop
if they get a guarantee that they're not attacked again.
And this is part of the excess strategy of course,

(02:39):
a bit of back and forward, nuclear material cleared, regime
largely gone, some sort of rebuild money sorted, and it's
kind of got a Gaza two point zero vibe about it,
don't you reckon?

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Then?

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Of course, two pm this afternoon, addressed to the world
an important update. Does that have the makings of the end?
Let's see. Possibly it's more about NATO, but the driving
forces are the driving forces that have been at play
all along. Petrol and America cost too much, the cost
of living is up hirings down, recession fears are up,
the midterms are coming. As we said last week, Trump

(03:10):
might be mad, but on the political survival front, self
interest is a finely honed skill of his.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Although just in the back of my mind, I always
have that feeling that he is not a career politician
by any stretch of the imagination. And there's a lot
of people who've been there a lot longer than he
has doing what he's trying to do, and they seem
to be falling out of love with him just a
little bit. I wonder if he'll be in Mark the Week.

(03:39):
More importantly, I wonder if I'll play the right sound
effects in Mark the week.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Time out to mark the week, little piece of news
and current events that says controversial as saying Missy book,
who is all the French I know? In Canada? Pakistan?
Six black Mystery of the week? Did they host talks?
Were there any talks? What's the talks to bs ratio oil?
Seven black goal specifically the government's handling I mean ticket swaps, deals,

(04:03):
un solicited offers. I mean this looks and feels like
it's in the hands of actual adults. COVID two point
zero se people are not going to be sitting at
home baking sour dough. No, you see, because it isn't
no more homemade bread. Once again, good tome good reassurance
lessons look like they might have been learned labour in India. Three.
Wow Wow, I mean this is why we can be grateful.
They're not an office for the war. I mean they
do little bit stall and carp and the day you're

(04:25):
against free trade for goodness sake, you're basically not a
New Zealander. Booze seven. Yes, nice one on nice one.
Kiren as the kid from the wire, a rapper brings
the modern world to easter. Todd Stevenson, Todd Stevenson eight.
How about old Toddy silent for years and out of
the blocks with a scrap over funding for the Spurs
visit and a scrap with crasher over Maori names? Has

(04:48):
he been to an assertiveness course? Are the Warriors? Six?

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:52):
It was going to happen sooner or later, wasn't it?
But the Tigers that was a bit embarrassing. Shark Sunday
will be right the afore mentioned Artemis eight. So America
needs a boost right now and a little bit of
patriotic spatial exploration might just be it all birds three,
sad story of a dream that was destined for trouble

(05:12):
the end. Shoes are about fashion, not feels, style, not vibes.
Only a very small percentage of people are ever prepared
to look rude while saving the planet at the christ
Jet Stadium nine just another glowing symbol representing an increasingly
international looking small city that could stand tall against any
of its global p is Trump too, I know what
the hell I'm doing? His worst wicked, telling us you're

(05:35):
winning while watching tankers and oil facilities in Israel get missiled,
and also yelling at your allies isn't a sign of
successful strategy. He's looked spook, spooked. And that's the week
copies on the website and no one involved in the
production of this, by the way, got sucked in more
than once on April Fall's day.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
So did you spot the one that? Yes, early have
quite early on, didn't it? Yeah? And I don't even
know how it happened. I had the cursor over the
right button, looked down at the scrap, looked up again,
paid the wrong button. Is it time for me to
throw it all? And I think it might be rewrap
before we do, let's discuss the cabinet reshuffle, or should

(06:12):
we Is there anything to this or is it just
moving a few people around because a few people are leaving.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Mike, it would be nice to see Tim Costley elevated
to cabinet. He's an amazing local MP who does so
much hard work. Chris, thank you very much. Kristin, I'm
afraid to tell you I'm always certain that Tim is
not going to be elevated to cabinet. Today doesn't mean
that he might not one day. There is some I
don't know whether he's doing it on a Thursday because
it's pre easter or because nobody really cares. I'm just
debating with myself whether I'm less interested in Artemis or

(06:43):
the cabinet reshuffle. And the cabinet reshuffle today isn't really
a reshuffle it's brought about. A cabinet reshuffle is when
someone's going to get rolled, when people are going to
you know, when the knives are out. That's when you've
got a bit of drama. Today, all that's happened is
Retty's retiring and Collins is going off to another job.
So Pink, who's already a cabinet minister, but outside cabinet
and see this is where this outside inside thing. No, no,

(07:03):
I'd give some monkeys whether you're outside or inside cabinet?
Are you in cabinet? Are you in charge of any thing?
Are you any good? That's all we care about. So
Pink looks like he's going inside cabinet may get defense
Meager Canterbury, good bloke, nice guy, could save regional heir.
He looks like he's probably going to get some promotion
as well. Chris Bishop's going to lose something. That's not
bad because Chris Bishop's got too much stuff going on anyways,

(07:26):
busy cocking up Auckland housing. Matt Doosey might be in demotion.
Apart from that, I think that's basically in fact, I
think I just announced it the I don't think Christopher
needs to turn up and do any of that's.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
A bit of a downer if you're Matt Doosey and
you get demoted for Easter, isn't it? And it's like
why do they always do that sort of stuff? People
get fired just before Christmas? Way to ruin your holiday?
Is it better or worse than hearing about it on
the first day back, I don't know it's rewrap it right.

(07:58):
So we're into our seem like a good idea at
the time segment. Should we start with mevo or all birds?
Let's go all birds first. I kind of mic for this,
and I'll explain why in a minute.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
So All Birds very sad. Sixty eight million dollar sale
American Exchange Group. There are a group of people, ironically,
perhaps set up by a Syrian immigrant in America who
buys basically distressed assets in the lifestyle, jewelry and footwear area.
We set it from the start, and I feel bad
for Tim Brown. I feel sad for anybody who loses
a business. But when you're making shoes that are twofold.

(08:32):
Problem one the whole environmental thing. People don't buy footwear
based on environmentalism, and we're learning this out of the war.
At the moment. We all like to talk about green
and saving the planet and all of that, but you know,
just close a tiny little waterway and the whole world
comes to a grinding wise that we rely on fossil fuel.
So this whole business of saving the planet with shoes
was never going to work. The other thing, you've got

(08:53):
to be aware of or weary of in business is fads.
And the moment it became hot and it got a
market cap of billions, you thought that's never going to
last because market caps that are worth billions overnight are
suddenly going to pop. And they pop they did, and
so sort of has been down hill ever since. They've
sort of gone back and forward between being online and
backing bricks and mortar. They've gone and raised money, They've

(09:15):
set themselves up in Silicon Valley, They've done a whole
bunch of different stuff. So it's not like they haven't tried.
But what was worth seven billion is now worth sixty
eight million, and that is the end of that.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
I just don't understand why, you know, when it was
in the midst of its high valuation times, do you
not just sell then see how much it really is worth.
I guess I don't fully understand why people do these things,
because my ultimate goalmin life is to retire and not
do anything at all. And so if I was ever
in a position to have hundreds of millions of dollars

(09:46):
in my bank account, then that's happening instantly, isn't it.
See you later? No more work, no owning a company
nothing for me anymore? Have I got a what sense
of priorities? Anyway? The reason I was blaming Mike is
because he's just always talked about all words as being
rude choo's every time he's ever put it up, and
I think eventually he persuaded everybody.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
That they were it's a rewrap.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
And he's never really had anything particularly nice to say
about Mevo either.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Mevo. I think I called that one as well, this
ride share business. For the life of me Ika, If
you don't know what Mevo is, I drive past a
van on the way to work every morning and on
our street in our park in downtown Auckland, and every
morning the van is there. It's a ride share van,
and it never gets used. And I'm thinking that that
model's going nowhere that people and I have seen people

(10:33):
using ride share vans and they generally move flats with
them because you hire it for an hour, but in general,
this particular van goes nowhere. And I thought, somebody paid
money for that van, and you need money back on
that van, and for that to happen, they need to
be hiring it, and they don't. And so I thought,
this is ride share is not a thing, and Mevo
sort of proves my case one of a couple of
things is happening with Mevo. As far as I can
work out, there may well be this too many ride

(10:54):
share players in the market. So in other words, you
know you've tapped into a market. There is a market
for ride share. It's just that there one too many
and their model doesn't quite work, or it might be
that we're just simply not ready for the ride share.
One of the things I've never worked out about ride
share is You've got to park it in a certain park.
So I go grab my car and then I drive
it around and do whatever I do for an hour
or so, and then I've got to go find another park,

(11:16):
a Mibo park, which may or may not be convenient
to me. Therefore, what was the point of that? And
that's before you get to every car rides, your carry
people walked past is filthy, and it's not one that
I want to get into it, because of course, how
do you clean them, how do you maintain them, how
do you look after them? And so it's one of
those sort of things that it's just got too many
impediments for me to think that it's going to go gangbusters.

(11:38):
So they're under three point two eight and they're another
one of these companies. And this is the other interesting
part of the story. They've just completed a capital raise
and people like trendy things. It's like craft beer, Give
me some money from my craft beer idea. People are
into that, but they never think through the consequences of this.
Let's save the planet with some riotia. Oh yeah, and
they raise millions. And one of the questions about this

(12:00):
particular decision as of yesterday is what happens to the
millions and where does it go? And where is it?
Those questions are to be answered.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Could we combine a few of these things? Could you
have bear share where you share a craft brewery with
somebody else and you have to wear rude shoes while
you're making the No. You see, this is why I'm
not really an ideas man. My ideas are just ridiculous.
I do love a bit of space stuff, though I'm

(12:32):
determined that the Adams two thing is quite significant. Mike
not so much.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
And take off an Artismus is still four and a
half hours away, and they've just come down and lived
out of a suit up. They've gone to the suit
up room, put their suits on, come down and live
jumped into a truck and they're being driven out to
the thing. I mean, it's just a lot of you think,
you know, checking and immigration is a problem these guys.
I mean, this is before they go to three days worth
of it for goodness sake.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
But it's ten days the mission. I don't know. See,
this is why this is one reason why it's so
important is people have forgotten. I mean it used there's
ten three days to go the moon and back, you know,
the first time they did it, But this is a
ten day mission. Domestic manager last night when I was

(13:20):
talking to her about it, she said, well, that's interesting
for those people. When people asked what are you doing
for Eastern they said going to the moon. And then
she said, I don't think you know, spending years up there?
And I said, how long do you think it takes
to gets to the moon? And I think she was
confusing it with Mars. I can see. I mean, they
are just around things in space, don't they any know
of that? But yeah, Mike seems really determined that this

(13:47):
isn't significant, and one of his reasons was that we
should have done it years ago. But it's not that
amazing because you know, we should have done it back
in the seventies when, or at least the eighties. Here
we are fifty years later and we're having a go
and I don't understand that reasoning at all. How does

(14:07):
that make going further than any human being has ever
been into space before by about six thousand k's How
is there any less significance because we should have done
it decades ago. If anything, that makes it more significant
that we finally got around to it, isn't it. I
don't know. I does like space. I I am Glenn Hart.

(14:29):
I will never do anything as interesting as that. Unfortunately,
it depends how interesting you think of podcasts, as I suppose.
Hopefully you found this interesting enough to come back on
Tuesday Tuesday.
