Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from news Talk, said, be
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Rewrap there, what the rewrap for Monday? All the best
buts from the mic asking breakfast on news Talks said,
be in a sillier package. I am Glenhart today. There
is a war going on, so it's time for everybody
to put their prices up, regardless how long will that
war go on. The Chris Hipkins, I didn't know anything
(00:46):
about myocarditis situation gets murkier and christ Church is on
a roll, even if it doesn't realize it. But first up,
for those of you panic buying evs, beware, beware, beware.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
So if you bought yourself an EV as a result
of this stuff that's going on at the moment I'm
reading this morning, Cherry another one of these Chinese groups,
I'll come back to the Chinese things. This couldn't be
happening at a better time for the Chinese. If you're
a conspiracy theorist, you would have thought it was coordinated
with the Iranians, because the Chinese EV market is a
disaster and their profits are tanking. Byd the other day
(01:24):
announced a reduced profit. There are too many producers of
EV's and China basically, and they didn't know what to
do with them all. Anyway, I'll come back to that.
But Cherry announces this morning their next generation battery is
going to have five hundred kilometers of driving range within
eight minutes charging. So it's a Rhino battery, right. So
(01:45):
this is the next lineup of batteries a lifespan of
five thousand charges. They're aiming for a potential driving range
of fifteen hundred ks. So my question to you A
Moda is also and Jaco are also part of the
Cherry group, right, So these are names. If you're into
the EV market in this country at the moment, you
will have seen around the place. So my question to you,
(02:07):
if you've gone out in some strange panic and brought
yourself an EV, what are you going to do with
that when you take it back to the dealer and
your rangers three or four or five hundred k's and
the new batteries are fifteen hundred k's and you can
charge them in eight minutes flat, and your one's not
quite up to it, and you might have just jumped
in a weenie bit Hurley's.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Alway's been my issue with Tesla is that as long
as Elon Musk is involved, he could turn your car
off or blow it up or you know. I mean,
I know, you know you're not an astronaut trying to
fly around the moon, but you know, getting to work
(02:48):
as a relatively complicated process, and I just don't know
if you really want him being in charge of it.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
A rewrap.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
So yeah, I imagine all those evs that had their
prices slashed over the last couple of years as nobody
wanted them, will those prices will all be It's definitely
way back up again if you can even get your
hands on one, because as we know, bid is sold out.
But that's not the only thing that when the price
tag has gone Interstellar.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Sony PS five they're going to put the price up
by one hundred and fifty dollars on their top of
the line machine. So just because sort of things are
a bit uneasy in the world at the moment, so
your PlayStation gets a bit more expensive. Allegedly, while they're
at us, Netflix have decided over the weekend they're increasing
the price as well. They're investing heavily. See there's got
(03:38):
the Netflix has nothing to do with the war. But
these people just cannot get in fast enough. They're quote
unquote investing heavily in the content, so add supported plans.
This is America, by the way, I don't know what
it turns up to.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Here.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
It's gone from seven ninety nine to eight ninety nine.
Their standard plan's gone from seventeen ninety nine to nineteen
ninety nine. The premiere plan's gone from twenty four ninety
nine to twenty six ninety nine. So it's already begun.
And these people don't even use petrol.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Well, those shows don't drive themselves to your TV, you know?
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Is that what it is? Bunches and merchants? Mind you?
You don't have to pay for it, do you?
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Sorry? Headline that Xbox has not put the price up,
So whatever issues are affecting Sony don't appear to be
affecting Microsoft by the looks of things. But anyway, but yeah,
tech poor, I mean, whether it's cars or PlayStations or whatever,
(04:33):
or phones or anything. If you'd always want to have
the latest one, that's gonna that's certainly going to cost you. Rewrap,
I mean, don't worry. I'm sure all these prices will
come straight back down when the war ends, which will
be when exactly Again, just remind me, Mike, if.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
The war ended tomorrow Iran's total surrender, it would still
be months optimistically before commercial shipping fully residents. Pascal. That
then it's a good point, and you're correct, I think,
But that then brings us naving and got to the plastics.
Of course, plastics are a major through the straight up
of moosel and everything's got plastic in it, which is
another realization. So if you thought we were into renewables
(05:08):
we didn't need oil anymore more full you. And if
you thought we'd gone past plastics and we're all in
paper bags and paper straws more full view. It's all
in the strait of the moose and it's all made
in that part of the world. But anyway, Pascal, back
to your point, that then goes back, does it not
to the original intent of epic fury, and that was
(05:29):
are we better off as a planet if the Iranians
are decapitated and they no longer have nuclear capability? Has
that been worth it? So this ended today and it
took a week while to get back to what it was.
Would you still then in six months, twelve months, eighteen
months go. You know what, All in all, it was
(05:51):
worth the exercise.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I think we're all just sort of adding it up
and fuel fill ups, aren't we, And some of us
have to do it more often than others. So I've
only so far had to fill my car up once
since the war really been having an effect on the
fuel prices. So so far, I'm ah, oh, you know,
it is what it is, but yeah, too many more
(06:13):
of those fill ups and you're definitely starting to lose me.
I can only imagine what it's like for people who
have to fill up, you know, once or twice a week.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
The rewrap.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
According to our Prime Minister today, this is not COVID
two point zero and nobody will be baking sour. Though
not quite sure what he meant by that, but I
wonder if Chris Hopkins is listening, or if he's ever
listened to anybody about anything.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Chris Hipkins are going to tell you is as dodgy
as if this was the Prime minister. You would have
a full blond scandal by now. I noted TV one News,
by the way, Friday Night, sadly, as predicted, spent about
twenty seconds on the story. The digital sites, to their credit,
gave it a bit of decent coverage. The revelation of
this cabinet paper proves the vaccine information got to Hipkins,
got to Asha Burial, as well as scribbled remarks in
(06:59):
the column. Of course, this goes to credibility, and in
my humble opinion, when it comes to Hipkins, it is shot.
He didn't turn up at the inquiry and this is
an ex mpul of very good reason why you can
clearly say whatever you like through your lawyers. I never
saw it wrong and sadly an indictment on the Commission,
who clearly didn't want to know any more. But when
court red handed with the cabinet paper, suddenly he forgot
(07:22):
he didn't see it, Yes he did, Oh sorry, I forgot.
He looked to blame Ashley, who by the way, is
as culpable. You know, he's nowhere to be seen post commission.
I operate on the very simple the buckstops at the
top way of working. So when Hipkins blames the Health Department,
it simply adds to his narcissistic tendencies of blaming others,
of being unable to accept responsibility and dear God in
ability to just be human and say sorry. He is shifty,
(07:45):
he's an excuse maker, he's a hire of lawyers at
our expense, and even when court red handed, all he
can do is plead dumbness or amnesia. This for me
isn't actually about the vaccine per se. I mean, yes,
for those in bold it's anger inducing you are dealing
with the nation's health. But for me, more importantly, it
is the character of the man of all of that lot. Robertson, Adurned, Bloomfield,
(08:06):
Verel and Hipkins. Half of them are bugged off to
prey at life. But Hipkins and Verel have chosen to stay.
And in choosing that in election year, you choose to
be held to account. And yet Hipkins doesn't want to
borrow that. He's untouchable and it's always somebody else's fault, eh,
who votes for that?
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I remember when they used to call Donald Trump Teflondon
for a while there, because nothing really seemed to stick
to him, and then it just got to the point
where he would basically say, yeah, yeah, I did that,
What are you going to do about it? I just
wonder if Prestictions thinks that he's in that same.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
League.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
He clearly isn't. But then if you honestly believe that
you are, maybe that's the same thing. You know what
I'm saying. I think most of us agree that you're
just so out of touch with a reality be you know,
the real world. But it doesn't really seem to matter.
If you're that far out of touch, then you don't
(09:08):
end up worrying you didn't you the rewrap. They certainly
seem to be keeping it real in christ Church, in
spite of the fact that it's apparently the colest place
to be in New Zealand these days.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Christ Church, I got to tell you, is awesome, awesome.
I've told you this before, but anyway, I told her
room this on Friday. I was in christ Church on Friday.
It was a fun hour with a bunch of christ
Church businesses and a panel of local experts and basically
we just chatted about what an amazing story christ Church is.
I mean, not perfect, A few issues remain. I note
on the same day I was there that Winston Peters
was there promising money for the cathedral, which, as I
(09:38):
drove through the square on Friday, is a shame beyond
shame that it remains in the state. It's in just
a few blocks down. Of course. Also on the same
day took it righte and me was Prime Minister, was
there opening that stadium. That's christ Church for you, so
forward thinking, so successful, and yet bits remain that remind
you that you know, if you want to get bogged
down and drama and angst, you will be left behind.
(10:00):
And the cathedral is a classic example of that. Anyway,
interesting part of our discussion, which by the way, was
at the town Hall, which remains to my mind one
of the great architectural triumphs of modern New Zealand artistry.
And I note that Myles Warren I got some art
up for auction tonight. I think it is at Webb's
and he's raising money for a project in christ Heuch,
(10:20):
she's got quite the collection. Anyway, I asked the room
about the war give me a number, I said, around ankst.
As far as angst is concerned, what's your number? We
seem to settle on six or seven. So the angst
is real. As much as the day was filled with
the joy of the stadium, and as much as Canterbury
is a region is booming, no matter how good life
is there is nothing like the prospect of running out
of diesel to send the shivers up a collective spine. Anyway, Canterbury,
(10:43):
by the way, is very good study in the art
of remembering your blessings. Traffic's bad, they told me, that's
what they said. I was talking to one of the Blakes.
Their traffic's dreadful here. I said, no, it's not. They
need a bit more positivity. That was the other thing
they told me. He said, oh, we could probably use
a bit more positivity. They need some more spending decisions,
they were telling me, do they I mean, everyone probably does.
(11:04):
But from a person who flew in from another city,
let me tell you this, outside looking in, it's easy
to simply enjoy your success, clearly, so much to become
possibly even complacent in your upbeatness. So yes, there's always
more to do. But my word, if I was the government,
I would look at handing out day passes to christ
Church for everyone who wants a blueprint on what the
future looks like for every town, suburb or city that
(11:27):
is stuck in some sort of infrastructural quagmire. Spend some
time in christ Church. Drive it, look at it, soak
it up. Talk to a few locals. Yes they want more,
but that's what happens when you're on a roll. Cheapish housing,
good education, decent weather, access to the city, to the country,
to the open spaces, international air connections, new facilities everywhere
(11:47):
you look, and you're already in the South Island to
start with. Christ Church is what New Zealand can be.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Oh, I'm pleased you had a good time, because I
was pretty worried. They flew him down there on Friday,
so he was down there for an hour thing, and
then he had to come back, and then he would
have sat there and watched the Warriors lose on Friday night,
the time Liam Lawson was breaking bits off the front
of his car and only qualifying fourteenth for the Japanese GP,
(12:16):
I was really starting to worry what I was going
to be dealing with this morning. I mean, luckily, you know,
Liam rocketed his way up the field into the points,
so that probably helped a bit. He tried to claim
that West's defense is what won them the game, while
conveniently ignoring the fact that they scored a Howard a
(12:37):
lot more points than the Warriors as well. So anyway,
like as I say, he was in a bitter bood
that I thought, so as a result, I am now
in a better mood than I thought I was going
to be at the stage of the week, and it's
only four days of a week, so let's rock on
into it. Tomorrow is basically Wednesday. I'll see you there
