Speaker 2 (00:22):
The Rewrap.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Okay there, welcome to the Rewrap for Monday. All the
best bits from the my casking breakfast on News Talks.
They'd be in a sillier package. I'm Glenharten today. What's
happening in Dubai at the moment? Anything? And if not,
can't we go back there? The warriors back to business
basically over the weekend. Everybody here is on leave and

(00:46):
is what is the best gift to give to somebody
who's got everything? Before any of that? Roads? Where are
our roads? Our roads are nowhere?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
What's working for the government at the moment?

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Broadly speaking of the economy, of course, the unmanufacturing numbers
are very good example of that. This morning, the economy
looks like it's coming right in time to milk it
all the way to the election.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
So the roads of significance, that.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Reset is what you would loosely call a setback of
not a dead rat. Now, this country has become famous
for talking big and doing little, for promising things that
never happen, and as that reputation built up over many
years and many governments. You hope we were slowly upon
realizing the futility of such behavior, actually looking to bring
it to an end. And yet no, it's worse for
National because they are the party of the economy. They

(01:31):
are the party that gets elected historically speaking after Labour
cockat all up. They're the adults in the room. So
for Chris Bishop to tell us what they promised isn't
happening the way they thought it would is a blow
to the credibility. Further, the admission that the promises were
ambitious is not as big a problem as admitting the
promises were driven largely, he said, by the construction industry

(01:51):
wanting a pipeline of work. Now, that smacks of politics
of convenience. In other words, smacks of a party telling
you what you want to hear. For all the criticism
of Labor and get Wellington moving, or the light rail
and Auckland Debarkle, all that nonsense, National admitting they over
promised is not a good look. Glass half full, I suppose.
I mean, stuff is happening, things are being built. But

(02:13):
let's be honest when they say five project are in
the slow lane. The slow lane in this country is
the no lane, the slow lane, slow lanees, the no lane.
They won't ever happen. And that's before you get to
the prospect of a labor election win, which will lead
to the old obsession with cycle ways and bus lanes,
so none of it will ever come to pass. Government
is about delivery, right. Elections are about choosing your path

(02:35):
of choice. After that, it's delivery. Labor are famous for
lack of it. National on roads turns out not as bad,
but they're not what they said they were on the
ten I mean.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Just in terms of cones. So yesterday I was driving
home from Mount Monganu and I was driving along the
way Kadow Expressway. Now there were signs out saying that
there were roadworks ahead that you know, normally this is
a road you can drive out one hundred and ten on,
but I was to slow down to at least seventy,

(03:07):
if not fifty, And there are cones on either side
for many, many, many many kilometers, and about the road
that had looked like it had been freshly sealed, and
there was no reason that I couldn't drive one hundred
and ten, and that many people were still just driving
one hundred and ten. I strategically drove slightly slower than them,

(03:30):
And I don't know if that's good Lodgic. Is it
a good idea to drive slightly slower than a person
you know is speeding, because then if they'd go past
a cop, the cop want have to chase them because
they're driving faster than you, Or will the cop chase
you because you're driving slightly slower. That's always been a
bit of a quandary. Anyway, My point is there's a
lot of cones. I thought we were getting rid of those.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Rewrap.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Do they do cones in Dubai or whether they do,
they just make stuff talking.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
But brother, by the way, who's in Dubai, lives in Dubai,
and there's nothing going on there this whole It's very
important to remember that, you know what we feel or
suspect of the side of the world and going, oh
my god, it's all on again and it's nothing of
the sort. If you want to go to Qatar, he
tells me, was a little bit noisy over the weekend,
his words, not mine, A little bit noisy. When I

(04:16):
so noisy, the sirens go. But it's very much targeted
around bases and stuff like that he's looking to go
to a man this week, but the business he's going
to visit this week is near the airport. Whether you
want to be near an airport in Oman, he's touch
and go on that. But as for places like Dubai,
life continues as Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
So, I mean, we chose not to go through Dubai
when we went to Europe recently. It wasn't really because
we were worried about drones landing on our head. It
was more that we were worried that people would be
so worried that things wouldn't work properly, and the flights
wouldn't happen properly, and you know, we wouldn't be able
to go on our visit Safari. Is there something that's

(04:57):
even less important than a first world problem? Like a
seven star.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Problem, A rewrap, A.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Big weekend of sport? They all seem to be big
weekends of sport, don't they? A big score for the warriors?

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Well, such as the NRL that you play West Tigers,
they kill you, then on the repeat you killed them,
so normal transmission is back. I'm not sure either side
were dramatically different than the second time around. It's just
a reminder that in a comple like the NRL, anything
can happen at any time, and I'm sure the Panthers
have been having a similar conversation of late, having lost
a couple for no discernible reason. I read a report
that suggested this wasn't our best work. It's probably true,

(05:32):
but I like to look at the old glass half full.
I enjoyed the game, never looked in doubt. There was
a mile that fast, free flowing, tossed the ball about
joy and frivolity that can make leagues so entertaining. No,
not all of it came off, and if the old
mistake hadn't happened, or we hadn't been held up at
the line, the score could have blown out even further.
But the important point is we won one easily and

(05:53):
we march on the Tigers. I guess was a chance
to rectify a bit of the season that hadn't worked
out the way we had expected, and that would mean
in about a month's time we can potentially do the
same with the Panthers. See, I'm one hundred percent convinced
we can beat anyone but the one the Panthers we
really need to beat. We got pipped at the post
by So a winn and a repeat match would settle
any psychological nerves. So you don't want to go into

(06:14):
the playoffs not having beaten a team that many would
argue are our better. Enjoy to the fact that there
isn't a side left in the season that is higher
up than us. See, that's what being number two on
the ladder will do for you. The joy of this
year has been the reality that we are the team
to beat. We are the target. We haven't climbed or
clawed our way back up. We have settled in nicely

(06:35):
to the top and pretty much been there the whole season.
We're no longer fluky or lucky. We're no longer in
the desperate possession of counting points or winds or draws,
are relying on other sides results. We are the real
deal in This is very much our year.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I guess with our attention on more sort of international
things like the beef of World Cup, we've sort of
have we sort of and then the Warriors had to buy,
didn't they. And they've kind of if they fall off
the radar a little bit, I mean, and they've had
this you know, Stonking and turn around against a team

(07:10):
that wasted them earlier in the season, and I sort
of feel like I had to look up when they
even played, if they even played this weekend. Maybe that's
just the rewrap. There's a funny time of year, isn't that.
There's people away? Man? Are there people away?

Speaker 4 (07:24):
So I don't know how long this road show is
going on for. But photos overnight from Andrew Alderson and
the family. Last week I told you about he was
sitting in Clarkson's farm or you Diddley squat or at
the farmer's dog or whatever it's called.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
And he's founded. He's in Paris.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
This morning, he is in Paris and the kids look
like they're not missing school even a little bit, even
though I know it's school holidays, but on my suspicion
as those children were not in school before the holiday started. Anyway,
he says he's coming back sometime this month, possibly next
other one I got photo from the boss, who's also
on holiday. Literally everyone's on holiday. Literally no one is here.

(07:59):
Bosses on holidays, having the time of his life. He
sent me a photo of his wine of choice for lunch.
He drinks a bottle at lunch in a bottle for dinner,
except when he's on holiday, where he drinks twice as
much anyway. So he sent me a photo and this
is why we're doing so well as a country. He
sent me a bottle of wine, a photo of a
bottle of wine at Craggie Range serving you on blanc.
Sitting in California having lunch with a bottle of Craigie

(08:21):
Range serving on blanc. Now, I happen to know this
particular bottle of serving on blocs about twenty five bucks.
So I said, what'd you pay for that? He paid
eighty one dollars New Zealand eighty one dollars, So that
same bottle goes from twenty five New Zealand to eighty
one dollars in Los Angeles and that and so you
say to yourself, well do people pay it? And the
answer is yes, they do. And that's why the exports
are booming. And there's tariff money on that, along with

(08:43):
the shipping and all the other nonsense that goes with it.
And yet people are still prepared to pay for it.
And if you make some of the best in the world,
and the New Zealand serving on blanc is as good
as it gets people will pay the price. And that's
why the New Zealand story is slowly but surely coming
right acting Prime Minister because Prime Minister's why on holidays?
Well he sent me no photos over note at all.
I don't know where he is or what he's doing.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
It is some strange doesn't have people get jealous of
other people who are on holiday for taking their leave,
Like I mean, you know, they're entitled to it. They've
negotiated it in their contract. It's not like they're doing
something nefarious. They're just going on holiday. And yet the
people who aren't on holiday always feel a little bit
put out by that, don't they Are they worse a

(09:25):
hearing about somebody who's on holiday when you're not.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Rewrap right, So.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
These gifts that people give other people, and I'm talking
about politicians at their political meetings, should.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
We stop doing that starma?

Speaker 4 (09:40):
They all got given one apparently the one gave everyone
a gun, personalized revolver engraved with their names. So they're
decommissioning that before they take it back to Britain. As
we old Cash Bettel gave Mitchell a gunn so it
was obviously maybe it's a.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Can I be completely honest. I mean, obviously I would
never be in this situation, but if I was in
a situation where somebody was giving me a gun for
a present, I would just say no things. I don't
want to offend anybody, but please don't give me a gun.
I don't want a gun, don't like guns, not into guns.
I don't think anybody should be into guns. And if
it's a problem, then it's a problem. But please take

(10:22):
your gun and point it in somebody else's direction. Am
I just being a wooly wolfter that way? Even if
it has got been engraved with my name on it.
It's better to have a gun with your name on
it and then a bullet, isn't it. I am Glenn Hard.
Please don't see in guns. That's all I'm saying. Food, alcohol, absolutely,

(10:43):
Guns not so much. And I'll be back here again tomorrow.
