Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Wellington Mornings podcast with Nick Mills
from News Talks at b.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Morning, Sean Bruce from the Sydney Kings.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Good morning there, how you doing.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
I'm good, Bruce, are you?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yeah? Very good, Matt. Excited to get back over there. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Well now, listeners will remember you because you played for
the Saints in twenty eighteen for a year and you
became part of the family pretty quick. We loved you
over here and you were an amazing person for the
club and we missed you when you went. Now you're
playing for the big boys, the Sydney Kings, and you
come back and playing the Breakers back on a court
that you have played on before a bit.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yeah, no, thanks for those kind words, but yeah, really excited.
Have a lot of fond memories of my time in
Wellington's though. I'm excited to break up the regular season,
going to Auckland and coming down to Wellington. I'm really excited.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Tell me the Sidney Kings team. Right when the season started,
people said you had too much talent, you were too good,
you were too great. You really haven't performed to where
you could be or should be, And I fear or
my big unkind.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, that's probably true. I think we're still we're still gelling,
We're still getting to where we need to be. Yeah,
obviously we'd love to come in and chemistry be there,
and we'd like to kick the season off nine wins,
ten wins, whatever it is, without many losses. But it's
been up and down so far. But we feel like
our best basketball is still ahead of us and we're
(01:35):
still working towards that. For sure.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
How dangerous of the break is going to be tomorrow night?
Now that they've had three or four losses in a
row and not looking that good, They're going to be
very very dangerous. Is that making you think twice?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Yeah? For sure, they'll be hungry. Every game is tough
in this league, So whether you win three or four,
lose three or four, like, every game means something and
that's what makes our league special, I think. And yeah,
the Breakers have lost a couple, but they're still the
same team that went on the run that they did
at the start of the season as well. So a
(02:07):
team with PJC and Mooney, I'm always going to be
tough to play against.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Have you ever sat down with the other two guys
that played for the Saints and said, there's all three
of us, the Arfur, Xavier Cooks, we've all played for
the Saints. It's a lot of players in the Sydney
Kings that have actually played together. And oh it didn't
play together, but played for a club the same club,
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Yeah, I mean it's funny we're all here, but I
think we all speak about Wellington and the Saints. We've
all got great memories and yeah, it's obviously a wonderful
club to play for, and yeah, just a find environment
to be in, and we just remember the fans and
coming back to that arena is going to be a
lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
How good is it to play with Xavier Cook?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Oh, he's awesome. So it's just thankful that he's back
with us. I feel like he could play anywhere in
the world and do well, and we're just really grateful
that he is with us at the Kings, and you
guys know how good he was at the Saints. Yeah,
it just makes everyone better and hopefully the fans come
out and he has a great game tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Bruceie. Thanks, I know you're about to hop on a plane.
Thanks for taking a couple of minutes of your value,
valuable time to talk to the Wellington people. Appreciate you.
Really looking forward to just getting to say hello to you.
Hopefully I will. Maybe you'll be too busy, but please
say hello to to Liafa and Cox for me too. Please,
and hopefully you'll stay in Wellington, will be successful and
(03:34):
you will enjoy playing host to you, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Thanks Nick, can't wait to see you too. See you
tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
All right, Budy mate Sean Bruce, Sidney King's star there,
great guy, one of the great guys of sport.
