Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio Good Morning.
This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is to go outside for the sunset. Getting outside
in the evening is a great way to make any
evening feel more memorable, and seeing a sunset is an

(00:26):
easy way to add more awe into everyday life. This
is free entertainment, so to speak, that nature provides on
the regular, so we may as well take advantage of it.
Longtime listeners know that I am a big fan of
what in my family we call toad time. That is
time outside after dinner. If the double time in that

(00:49):
acronym bothers, you call it together outside after dinner time.
This is hard to pull off in winter, but after
the March time change, it's light outside until at least
seven pm, and soon much later the weather starts getting nicer.
By the end of March and into April, going outside
at night becomes more appealing. Nature also puts on a

(01:12):
spectacular show twice a day with the sunrise and sunset.
I am often up getting kids ready and see the
sunrise out my kitchen window, but in the rush of
the morning routine it's a bit more challenging to get
out there and savor it. In the evening, though there's
often a little bit less going on, there's less rushing,

(01:33):
a lot of people aren't doing that much, say seven
thirty p m. Committing to going outside to see the
sunset will both nunte you to get some fresh air
and probably introduce some spectacular beauty into an evening that
might not have had so much of it otherwise. Ideally,
this could become a regular thing. There is a sunset

(01:54):
every day, and when it is a regular thing, than
the benefits start to stack up. To know when the
sunset is you have to look at a time or
weather app for your area. Then you have to think
about your evening, what is going on around the time
that the sun is setting. That question will nudge you
to think through your evening. If we finish dinner at seven,

(02:17):
we could go play outside in the backyard for thirty minutes,
right and then we could watch the sunset. Or maybe
we'll be getting out of swim practice at seven fifteen
and the sun is setting at seven twenty, so maybe
we can drive two minutes away to a park with
a lot of open space so we can see the
sun going down. That will make for a little adventure,
which right there could make an evening more memorable. Now,

(02:40):
obviously this isn't always going to work. Some days are
stormy and there isn't much of a show. Sometimes you
are doing other wonderful things that preclude watching the sunset.
If you are listening to an orchestra perform from let's
say seven to eight thirty pm, you will probably emerge
to darkness, and that is okay. I know that during

(03:00):
certain windows of the year, perhaps young kids' bedtimes will
exactly correlate with the sunset, and that is what it is.
But as I study people's evenings, I know that many
people do not use evenings particularly well. We don't have
much energy. It's hard to be intentional. Choosing to go

(03:22):
outside to see the sunset is a very low energy
intention that it would not be hard to add into life.
But when you see these spectacular oranges and pinks on
the clouds and feel the spring breeze on your face,
the payoff is going to be pretty good. In the meantime,

(03:43):
this is Laura, Thanks for listening, and here's to making
the most of our time. Thanks for listening to Before breakfast.
