Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning,
This is Laura, Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is that a one night getaway is still worth doing. Yes,
you might do a lot of planning for the amount

(00:24):
of time you get, but making memories requires intensity, not duration.
If you've got a busy life, multiple one night getaways
might be the best way to have a lot of adventures.
For many years, The New York Times has run a
series called thirty six Hours, as in thirty six hours

(00:48):
in Philadelphia or thirty six Hours in London. The idea
is that even if you don't have days off work,
you can fit in a lot during a trip to
a destination. Fly somewhere two hours away on Friday night,
fly back on Sunday, and you can still have quite
an adventure. This is true, and you can experience quite

(01:11):
a bit in twenty four hours two Now, I'm not
sure i'd fly too far for a twenty four hour trip,
though I sometimes do for my speeches. But even if
you're just flying one to two hours or driving three
to four there are probably a reasonable number of destinations
within that radius for you. You might know some people

(01:33):
within that radius you'd like to see. And the upside
of a one night getaway is that it can fit
in a lot more places in a schedule than a
longer stay or even a two nights day can. After all,
for a one night getaway, you wouldn't have to rush
home Friday after work. You could have a leisurely family

(01:55):
dinner and relax after a busy week. Just make sure
to throw a few things in a suitcase. Then you
get up on time on Saturday, drive three hours, and
by noon you could be somewhere, going on a hike
or seeing a museum, or swimming by a friend's lake house.
Enjoy dinner somewhere, or go to a show, stay up

(02:16):
late chatting. Then the next morning you have a leisurely
breakfast and just be sure to get on the road
by late morning. You'd get home in time to have
a lazy late afternoon into Sunday evening. You've made memories
but still had a lot of weekend downtime. Indeed, because

(02:38):
you had a reasonable amount of downtime on Friday night
and Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, you could even repeat
this somewhere else the next weekend. Coordinating vacation time with
everyone's schedules can be challenging. But with one night away,
when you don't even have to take time off work

(02:58):
or school, this can be much easier. And here's the
thing about a one night getaway. If you go somewhere
you don't go frequently, you will remember this trip when
I look at my time logs. If there's a trip
somewhere I've only been a few times, I definitely remember it.

(03:20):
That memory is still there, whereas much of a normal
summer just isn't now. Flying places and staying in hotels
can add up driving and staying with friends is generally cheaper.
See you might do a mix, but look at the
next few months and see where this might make sense.

(03:42):
Maybe you've been saying you want summer to feel more
like summer. Doing something memorable with the weekend will help
with that. It will make the summer feel richer and longer.
And since it's only one night, you could aim for
several and still have life go along as it normally does.

(04:06):
In the meantime. This is Laura. Thanks for listening, and
here's to making the most of our time. Thanks for
listening to before breakfast. If you've got questions, ideas, or feedback.
