Speaker 1 (00:06):
Hi, Family Secrets, Family, It's hard to believe that the
tenth season has come to an end. We spend months
assembling the season, and then as the episodes drop each week,
time seems to accelerate. I received so much interesting feedback
from many of you about this season's stories. The compassion, kindness,
(00:26):
identification connection you felt toward these guests is wonderful to hear.
There was sometimes consternation and frustration too. Family secrets can
be well triggering. It's not always a comfortable listen, and honestly,
I don't know if anything truly can be always comfortable.
(00:48):
My hope is that these stories will make you think,
make you empathize, and make you feel less alone in
this human condition we all share. We are complicated creatures,
yet no matter how different our lives may be, we
are more alike on the inside than we often realize,
and this awareness can bring us closer together in an
(01:09):
often fractured world. I also want to thank so many
of you who reached out when I let everyone know
I was going through a challenging time health wise. Six
months post my diagnosis of an early stage ocular melanoma,
my treatment is complete and my prognosis is excellent. I've
(01:30):
spent my life as an artist and a human being
trying to glean the lessons from whatever life has handed me.
Whether the early loss of my dad, the rare illness
my son went through and recovered from as an infant,
my husband's cancer five years ago, the discovery that my
dad hadn't been my biological father, a secret which inspired
(01:52):
this podcast. All of these have been my teachers. My
job in life, I've come to realize, is to me
meaning as an artist. I have tended to do this
through writing books, but creating and hosting this podcast and
the reach of the shows many millions of listeners, has
been one of my life's greatest gifts. When I sit
(02:16):
down with a guest, my whole being is focused on
their story. It's an honor to be able to shape
these stories into episodes that resonate. As a result of
the treatment from my ocular melanoma, I am slowly losing
the vision in one eye. The strange symmetry does not
escape me that as I lose half of one of
(02:36):
my senses, I have deepened another. I am listening Family Secrets. Family.
Stay tuned for season eleven, which will drop in early November.
We already have an amazing lineup of guests with new
stories to inspire you, move you, and make you think
about your own life. I love this family. Thank you
for being a part of my life always. If you
