Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hey, this is any and Samantha, and welcome stuff.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
I never told your production by her radio.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
And welcome to another happy hour where it's not sex
and the City. Because this week has been crazy.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
We are yes, yes, but will it will happen?
Speaker 1 (00:29):
It will We're coming. We're coming for it for real.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
I had a family emergency, so like I had to
scramble and rearrange some things. And my coworkers are amazing
and work with me, so I appreciate that. But this
happy hour, I'm gonna talk a give an update about
things happening in my life that aren't horrible, but they
are a little bit anxiety ridden. But that's okay. We're
we're gonna get into it before we start. This is
(00:53):
a happy hour, so if you are doing anything happy
hour ish, do so responsibly. Also not sponsored by any
of the things that I'm going to talk about currently
or we're going to talk about. We could be we
should be call us yeah things for here. Annie, are
you doing happy hourish things?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I am? And I forgot to open it before the noise. Okay,
if you don't like the sound of a can opening,
then skip five seconds.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Anyway, I had a bunch of friends over recently. There's
a lot of stuff going on right now. There's birthdays,
there's holidays, there's all kinds of things. And they all
bought me kind of different beers. And this is a
very spring, citrusy beer.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I see the lemonon there.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, the can is very pretty. I actually haven't had
one yet, so this is what goes.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
I like it. Yeah, is it a pale l.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
I think it's a Belgian l Yeah, citrus Belgian l.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Oh those are That's a good combo. I like that.
It's the tasty m h nice I am. It's been
a kind of a busy week and I am running
off of fumes essentially with weird sleep schedule and bouncing about.
So I have been drinking a lot more coffee or
a lot more caffee recently. I have gotten into actually
(02:29):
getting buying my own chies. I've concentrated chai to make
myself a chai lattes, so I have that on hand
as well as my water, because you know, you gotta
counter it. Be responsible, drink that water right right right? Yes,
mineus bubbly And I wonder if there's any connotations, but
I probably shouldn't drink that much bubble of water, but
I really like it.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, we can talk about that later. We were talking about.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
That, okay, okay, and he's ashowing me. And today I
was just going to give you an update about what
is happening. I had told you that I am venturing
into new hobbies and things that like growth, personal growth,
where like it's not a midlight crisis necessarily, even though
I've had ten and he has told me. But it's
just like you know, kind of finding new passions and
(03:17):
new loves. And I've been doing a lot more like
working out zoom, but I've done it for ten years though,
like it's been a thing that I've always done. I've
always loved dancing. I've always had the idea that I
would love to choreograph my own routines. But I'm not great,
but I'm okay in some of the things, and I
can get you to move well today, very like I've
(03:39):
been waiting for a while. I told y'all, I think
in December, right, this was my plan that I was
gonna I was gonna go for it and a little
bit of hesitation, and I have like a playlist with
about six of my own routines nice, great, and that's
been ready to go. I got certified in it, and
(04:00):
then I started sitting my application and I think the
second week, first week of January, because I'm like, I'm
gonna do this nothing. I heard nothing. I heard nothing.
I did it again. I heard nothing. I had my
instructor friend, who has been my zomitator of the entire time,
do it for me. Nothing when I tell you it's
(04:20):
been a month of like nothing, even to the point
that he actually would text her and be like, hey,
have you seen this person's uh application, She's really great,
And then even like did one for me as a referral,
like sit in the referral nothing Annie. So I kind
of just was like, you know what this might be
telling because I am very much that person, especially when
it comes to being doing anything new or things that
(04:43):
like I have no control in that. I take it
as a sign if it's not working, then it's not
meant to be. I'm not going to push whatever whatnot.
So I kind of left it alone. I mean, we
were still trying, don't get me wrong, but like I
was like at peace with it might not happen. That's okay,
I can go to my classes. I can do some
routines in here and I can still be free. I
(05:05):
decided this Monday that, you know what, I'll try one
more time and see if this works. And that day
I got a phone call. The next day he was like,
do you want to come in for an audition? I
was like, well, dang, And today I did an audition.
So I had to go in, go in with a
warm up, did a couple of routines, did another warm up.
(05:28):
She's about your cold down. She's filming me. I got
good reviews. I think she kept saying you're very energetic.
Like that feels like when you tell a toddler about
how much energy they have, you know what I mean?
It kind of felt like that. But I'm like, you
know what, I'm gonna get this a compliment. Yes, And
then she's like you're good at queueing and I was like,
(05:49):
I've done it. But she's like, you've done this for
a long time, and she was like, so you just
got certified. I was like, yeah, like a month ago.
She's like, huh, you're really good at this, and I
was like, yeah, I've been in classes for ten years. Also,
some things just come naturally, like being a cheerleader, being
all those things that that came through. But it was
really kind of funny because I'm like, Okay, now she's
throwing out days that she would like me to be
(06:10):
at different clubs, which is if you know anything about
about Atlanta, Like the running joke is to get to
anywhere in Atlanta is fifteen minutes without traffic, but there's
always traffic, So go ahead and plan thirty minutes or
forty five minutes for that trip, and it could be
zero point five miles. It's gonna take you that long.
Oh yeah, every dang time. So like that was like,
(06:33):
you know, I do travel already, so it wouldn't be
too unusual. I am sad about the fact that I
might have to miss some of the classes that I
have already had, I will tell y'all. So with all
of these things, I started having a little bit of anxiety.
I did take a propopinal, if y'all know what that is,
is for its like a low grade blood pressure medication
for anxiety performance anxiety. I love that, y'all, like, because
(06:59):
at one point I was like, oh, my heart's not
racing like that, like that anxiety where I almost want
to throw up. And I was like, oh, yeah, that's
a good drugs is that drug? Because it really did
help me be calm and like rational in my thinking,
not not like racing thoughts because that happens to me
a lot. So I came in and I was like, Okay,
(07:20):
all of these things were great. But then the anxiety
this started coming, and I was like, oh my god,
I had to teach a class. What if people don't come,
What if they don't like me? What if they like
don't like my routines? Because I am so self conscious
about everything that if I have can't do it well,
I won't do it at all. Like I've talked about
this before and it's the same. I know I can dance,
(07:41):
but I don't know if my routines are good. The
few routines that I've showed so far, people love it,
love it enough to copy it and do it themselves
or do it without me being there. And I think
that's the biggest compliment. But like I'm watching other people
who are actually trained because I am not trained, and
I'm like, oh no, I'm not as good as them.
Oh no, I don't do that. Like people are like
(08:03):
ballroom dancers or Latin Latin dancers, and I'm like, oh,
my stuff is not Latin, Like I do a lot
of Latin dancers because it is zoom bud you're supposed to,
but things I would create would be a lot more
like hip hop, cardio jam type of thing. So I
feel like I'm a little nervous, even though every class
that I've ever like helped teach or whatnot, I've been
(08:25):
complimented and told like my ego is being fed, so
there's no reason for me to doubt it other than
I am a doubter with a lot of performance anxiety
and a lot of self deprecating ideals about myself and
no self esteem. Although I've gotten better as I get older,
because it's like you kind of start caring a little
(08:47):
less about what people think, but there's still enough to
be like, but if I don't people get people in
these classes, they'll cancel me. And I feel like that
is one of the biggest rejections that I might have
to deal with.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
I personally think that you will do fantastically, but I
understand all of your concerns because it's scary to like
put yourself out there and then hope that people respond
to it. And show up right, because if they don't,
then it's like you did this whole thing.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
And it was for naught. I do have this level
of like, to be fair, I'm also a little bit lazy,
and I'm like, oh my god, I really have to
commit to this. As y'all know, when I like like
a hobby, I like it for about six weeks and
I'm yeah, I'm done type of conversation. Of course, I
(09:52):
have stuck with this again for ten years. This has
been something I have constantly done and constantly love and
will like drive a little far too. This is kind
of my socialization. I love these people in a way
that can be superficial without feeling superficial because we might
not know much about each other. But I love our
time together and it's such a like unifying time for
(10:13):
the most part. There's also controversy and there's also like
a little bit of drama that happens at times, just
like in anything. But the level of diversity of the
different types of people that you meet in these classes,
especially in Atalanta, like one class has all like Asian
and Latino people in black like community. The way that
we gather it is so diverse that there's hardly like
(10:36):
for the first time, there's less white people than there
are like any other community. I'm like, oh, that's rare.
That's rare to see that in any like not necessarily
a privilege, but I mean being a part of a
GEM member like that is a little bit of a privilege.
But I love seeing that level of diversity. You have
people who are all the way from like eighteen to
(10:57):
there's a woman there that's eighty two, Like, it is
phenomenal to see and they are moving and having fun.
They're enjoying being able to move and listening to the music.
So I love every bit of that, and it feels
like a good community without having to be like, okay,
but we have to have sit down talks and have
deep conversations because I am the person who can't do that,
(11:20):
Like I have to be able to do that, especially
if it's a one on one setting, but if I
only get to see you for like five minutes at
a time after class, it could be superficial and I
don't feel bad about it, Yeah, which is what this is,
and also a growing relationship as you get to know
people like it is nice to be missed and seen
and I like when you walk in and having people
(11:42):
yell hey, or if you're missing a couple of classes
they come and be like, what you've been we missed you.
It's nice to be seen, you know. But with all
of that, I say this preemptively because I haven't gotten
a yes, so I might come back and be like,
she actually doesn't like me. She told me I wasn't hired.
So if that comes about, we'll hear that as the thing.
I like, Well, it didn't mean to happen. It didn't.
It didn't. It wasn't meant to be. But with the
(12:06):
idea that it does go forward, this is a new
adventure and I really hope that I can to keep
loving it because we've talked about that. How when it
becomes a job, it's not fun it's fun anymore?
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Yeah, or at least like it's stressful. In my experience,
it's it's still fun, but then it becomes a thing
that is a stressor.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
On some level. Yeah. I mean, I'm like, for now,
if I don't want to go to class because I'm tired,
I don't have to. If I'm teaching the class, I
have to.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Yeah, And there's pros and constant.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
That that's both good and a bad thing. Sometimes moving
around going to class makes me feel better, I will
say that. So that's it's coming. I'm excited for this adventure.
I'm probably I'm gonna switch up my like name what
like in order for people to find me on those apps.
(13:07):
If you're in Atlanta and if you want to come
to a Zoomba slash Cardio GM class LA Fitness. Not
a sponsor, uh, but that's where I will be teaching.
Maybe mm hmm, come find me, hang out and dance
with me. I'm excited if this does happen. The process
(13:28):
of actually auditioning was interesting, was interesting any I wasn't
gonna talk about that too, uh in that like, it's
been a long time since I've done an interview for
a job or any type of like because even like
in this job literally just started with me and you
talking about a subject that was that I was passionate
about and too, yeah we like you or get come
(13:49):
in as where like previously when I was working with
the Department of Juvenal Justice, I was initially interviewed and
then for any promotion I did have to get go
through the interview process. But that's been about eight no,
twelve years because I was in a position for a minute.
So like coming back and doing something physical and being like,
I gotta do this performing too was odd.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Yeah. Oh, I mean the whole interview process is strange,
and it I've only done, I think one that included
a physical element, and it was so bizarre because at
the end I was like, I know I didn't look
I was doing the thing, but I know it didn't
(14:40):
look like the coolest thing.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
It's gonna look how I just recently watched actors talk
about running and they have to fil slstage to show
to see how they run to fix the way they
run on space. But yeah, essentially I was doing that
because I've been watching myself. I have to videotape myself,
often with routines so I can remember what I did. Man,
I hate videotaping myself. I hate that. And there's a
(15:07):
component to this where you have to kind of advertise
yourself because you want people to come. And I'm like, oh, oh, man,
I'm really bad about that. I don't have to figure
that one out because I'm not good at social media anyway,
and I don't like putting myself out there and I
don't like to film myself bouncing about.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Yeah, agreed on all points. I don't like any of
that either. But also up if.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
You ask me to, yes, well I'm hoping. Yeah, I'm
gonna ask you too. Of course I'm gonna ask you to.
I want everybody to come and hang out with me.
There's a lot. Yeah, we'll see. It feels an odd
timing as we are in the middle of Also, I'm like,
we're talking about ice and immigration issues, and then I'm like.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
And zoomba, you've got to find some kind of outlet.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Did you do?
Speaker 2 (15:54):
You really do?
Speaker 1 (15:55):
But it's such an interesting thing because you're like, ah,
this is a real flip from what we're talking about. Uh,
but yeah, y'all, it's happening. New Adventures of Sam.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
I love it. I can't wait to hear some updates.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
And you can. I can't wait for you to come
to the class if I have one.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Oh yeah with me.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
I need to get ready, you got you gotta get ready? Yeah,
chutch it out.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Oh wow, listeners. Definitely if you are in Atlanta, I
want to check it out if it happens.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
If it happens, we'll let you know.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yeah, I just got pretty end of excited. I was
really want to talk about the interview thing, but then
I got sidetracks. But it's okay, Well let us know.
