Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hey, this is Annie and Samantha home stuff. I never
told you production of ByHeart Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Oh, and we're doing it and we're back. First of all,
this is a happy hour episode, So if you're doing
anything happy hour ish, please do so responsibly. Annie, are
you doing happy hour ish things? Would you do it?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
I have a rose today. I wanted to do anything
like fancy because we're coming back to a long running series.
It's too cold to do anything like I was going
to do, like a cold drink.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
So actually and I am drinking a dr pepper cream
soda zero your favorite. Not a sponsor, not a sponsor.
That's the other part is we don't have any sponsors
at this point that we are going to mention. That
could change later, but right now these are not sponsors.
But yes, we are back for the long awaited I

(01:12):
don't care. I'm all might have forgotten now that way
you've been doing this, the watching yes of Sex and
the City. It's been a full year, and he counted it.
It's been a full year.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
It's been a year. And it's wild to me because
I knew it had been a long time, but I
didn't think it had been that long me.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Either, Me either, and we had fabulous a friend of
the show come on and talk about her expertise. Hello,
like she knew all the things and was ready to
go with all the Sex of the City trivia Jasmine,
we didn't need to have her back on. But yes,
it's been a full year, and weirdly, y'all, I just
realized what episode we're on, because again it's been a

(01:51):
full year, and it's a little timely, kind of in
the worst way. This like is one of those moments
of like, yeah, this did not age well at all.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Oh yeah, well that's fun.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
This is fun. So we're gonna go ahead and give
you a content warning of or probably mention it sexual
assault and exploitation, of course, is adult themed. We are
not edited. Christinas a magic maker with everything she adds
to this, so FYI this might not be an episode
you want to listen to with kids around. If you

(02:26):
know anything about Sex and the City, you kind of
already know this because this is not your syndicated edited version.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Just why yes, And also, it's been such a long
time since we've done this. Just a reminder, the premise
of this whole thing is Samantha has seen all of
these I have not. This is my first time. So
we watch it together and then we talk through it
and then have a discussion at the end.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yes, yes, so with that, yes, we are doing a
watch of Sex and the City. Typically we love bringing
on guests and we will throughout to join us in
this conversation. What we do is a we get a
synopsis of what has been happening from Annie, We get
a prediction of what she thinks is going to happen,

(03:15):
and then we have a discussion and I give her
a grade that is based on nothing but my opinion.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
I should get a chart. I should just be like
today she gave me a C. Mitis today star anyway?

Speaker 2 (03:29):
So with that, yes, we are doing our watch of
Sex and the City. We love this because we feel
like it reaches to different audiences. I will say once again,
this is one of those episodes that did not age well.
And I think I knew that beforehand, but I forgot
about it because we did not have Jasmine on this
episode for that reason. Oh okay, okay, So Annie, had
you had a minute to prepare, do you remember what

(03:52):
has been happening thus far? Because I need a reminder
as well. In Sex and the City.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
All right, I'm going to be completely honest with you listeners.
I normally don't look anything up for these that's kind
of the charm.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
I did have to go.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
I had to go and look up what happened in
the last episode or just like a general I didn't
just a general summary. And so at this point, from
what I remember and this summary brought back to me,
is all right. So we with this season, We've been

(04:25):
dealing with Carrie, who is now with Aiden, but cheating
on him with Big, her ex, and they kind of
reached this point where Carrie told him like, hey, sorry,
I'm cheating on you when he dumped her broke up
with her. And while all this is happening, we've got Charlotte,

(04:50):
who has been as you know, she's the one that
really wants to like settle down, husband, kids, life, and
she's met Trey and they got married, but I guess
he's impotent. So Charlotte thinks something is wrong with her.
She's not sure where that is, but they got married.

(05:13):
Miranda is still kind of I feel like she's gone
past Steve at this point. And if you watch this show,
you know Steve is kind of a person who comes
back in and out of her life a lot, and
she she's trying to find she was trying to find
like a date to the wedding.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
And that was the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
As I always say, Samantha's doing whatever Samantha things.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
I feel like she was is Sarah dildo model.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yes there is a model. Very good.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yes, my brain holds on to something or something questionable
in some ways.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
But yeah, so she's doing her Samantha things.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
But anyway, after aiden uh broke up with Carrie, the
group goes to LA because Carrie has gotten an offer
to make a movie, a movie or a production of
some kind about her column. And that's where we get
a bunch of celebrity cameos, including Matthew McConaughey. But that

(06:21):
was where we left office. They are in LA and
they kind of feel out of place in LA. I
feel like that was the vibes they weren't sure. It
was just a different city. It's different than they're used to.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yes, yes, yes, very good. Yes, you did a great job.
You did remind me of the dildo model, Like, oh yeah,
who also loves poetry.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
I'm glad to hear that because I was like I
don't know if I'm making that up.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
That wasn't in the SUMMARYE.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
You got it, you got it, you understood the assignment.
I am proud of you, and we are going to
jump in. So with that, let us talk about the
time of this episode, which is again season three, episode fourteen,
Sex and Another City. Do you have a prediction for
this episode?

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Okay, well, I think it's been so long since I've
done this. I think there's going to be a club,
a club. It's club or brunch if you don't remember, Yes, yeah,
I think it's going to be a club.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
But they do have a good brunch scene in LA.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
But anyway, okay, I think if I'm going with the
obvious vibe of the title, then it's once again this
idea that it feels very different in LA and not
understanding the rules and Sex and Another City, what was

(07:48):
it like?

Speaker 3 (07:49):
I don't know. Look, I'm rusty. I have to get
back into this.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
You know what. I appreciate it, and I think you
for that, you have.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Given me a lot of content warnings that I'm like, now.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Okay, okay, well we will jump in and see where
we're at. Are you all ready for this?

Speaker 4 (08:16):
View?

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Here? We go, let's do it.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
L a land of perpetual sun and perpetual sunbathing, which
also makes it land of the perpetual bikini wax.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
My god, have you ever had I?

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Have you?

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yes? One time? I did. One time. It was itchy.
Never again, but no, not a Brazilian. I had the
trail because I was like, not anything.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
There was like one person who did it in our
very small town. So if you did it, it was
kind of known that, like everybody would know that you
had done it.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
You've done it.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Also, I was like, I'll just not do that way.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
I'm so aware of down there now, you know.

Speaker 5 (09:22):
I feel like I'm nothing but walking sex.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
That's the thing about the Brazil and it makes you
do crazy things.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
You have to be very careful who you invite to Brazil.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Well, I'm officially who you invite to Brazil. I don't
know the origins. It feels a little sexist, maybe racist,
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
I feel like I read up about it once and
I was like, hmmm, is it racist. I don't know
if it was that, but just the way it was framed,
I was.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Like, it does not sound like it sounds like the
woman of color type of like narrative. Yeah, any worse
take off that hat. I'm gonna shoot you right now.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Actually I really like it.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Here, hang on, what happened to the guy used to
share beers with to make fun of happy people?

Speaker 4 (10:12):
I know, I know the.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Thing is, I think I'm one of those happy people.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Now.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Wow, I mean, good for you.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
I know it sounds crazy, but I think I was
just supremely unhappy in New York. I mean I came
out here and I let a lot of that old
toxic anger go. I take things slowly, get outside. Ela
agrees with me.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
Miranda realized she was the one standing out in that room.
She was the only angry New Yorker for Miles.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Hey, this is that narrative, the New York versus LA.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, I wonder how people from LA felt about this.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Oh, they had attitude.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
It's fair.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
I mean it's like whole like winter versus summer, all
the time, daylight versus like the attitude.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Yeah, but you know, you got one place as the
public transportation.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Its pros and cons.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Pros and cons all the things.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
But you tell her that when she's ready to deal,
she can go ahead and call me yourself.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Okay, I'm gonta function.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Here, Vince ing Vaughan. I'm trying to remember. Was she
and Vince Vaughn in a movie together?

Speaker 3 (11:31):
I think they were, but okay, I'm not sure I remember.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Yeah, I know how and Matthew McConaughey were m M.
Failure to Launch, Failure to Launch.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
Yes, Yes, Samantha had worshiped you Hessner ever since she
was old enough to steal her father's playboy to her.
This wasn't a celebrity sun, this was wat This.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Is the one you've told me about? Is that you Henery? Hi,
I'm Samantha Jones. I just wanted to tell you I'm
a huge fan. I fobably in that case joined us
for a drink.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
Drink pay be great?

Speaker 5 (12:16):
Well, thank you.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Have you been paying attention to any of the stuff
lately about Hefner? No, so new allegations from his last
wife have come up in which she talks about he
collected photo albums of women that would come through and
then distributed them and like she was horrified and was
trying to like tell everybody about them and let them

(12:41):
know that they've been I think released in some spects
and like how disgusting it is, and like people were
angry and I'm like, oh, and she was just talking
about how awful he was, essentially, but it was his
wife at the time, and she said she didn't know
this was happening or something along those lines. Y'all.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Yeah, wow, yeah, you're right timing mm hmmm. He really
did get a free path for a long time.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
He got the best pr like whoever was behind him. Well,
also a generation of like no social media, so he
got lucky.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
And there in the South Americans living room, my Brazilian
made me kiss him.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Wait till you see the hot tub.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
The hot Time's weird that your first date would be
looking at property. Yeah, as a person who doesn't date
much like coffee would be a good way to go.

Speaker 6 (13:51):
I feel like, yeah, I agree that going from coffee
to hey, let's look at this million dollar property.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Maybe it's time I stop being so angry.

Speaker 7 (14:10):
Yeah, but what would you do with all your free time?

Speaker 1 (14:12):
I'll tell you what you could do?

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Legitimate show Jesus, No, you did for good. She said that.
That makes me sad.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
No, you didn't, she said it very seriously to you.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
You never know.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
It wasn't a real friendly unless you looked inside of
the lining.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
Yeah, I don't have that luxury. All my insides are
on the outside.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Now, I don't like fake. Who cares.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
All that matters is what it looks like. It's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
It's pretty good. We could go.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
So they're saying LA is fake. Everybody in LA is fake.
That's what they're saying. We drove for two hours in
the valley.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Going back to the hotel.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
I just looked so sad.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Have you ever done an adventure like that? Or you
thought something was somewhere and then you try to travel
to that and you're like, oh, oh, we're not we
are not in the right place.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Oh yes, oh yes, And it's a very bad feeling
because you're looking around and it feels like everybody else knows.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
You're not right.

Speaker 5 (15:25):
I'm Later that night, I was a guest at Keith's
amazing house. He made sizzling scallops, and after dinner things
got even hotter.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
I like hot tubs.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
New York should have more hot tubs, like on roofs
and stuff like you're like that.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Man, they move quickly. That's the Every time I watch
the show, I'm like, Wow.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
You gotta get it. Hint within the thirty minutes.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
That's true. I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
We all know that's not good for you, right, we've
all learned that the hot tub sex.

Speaker 5 (16:09):
Waking up in Keith's sun filled bedroom, I was starting
to feel like three point four million myself.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
I really like what you have going on down there.
That would be a whole lot of nothing.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Yeah, oh fun thing.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
No worries me when you see this, think to eleven.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Nice life.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
The do you think you're doing?

Speaker 7 (16:33):
I told you no, you're a house sitters.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Wow, what a twist.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
Apparently the life I was coveting wasn't Keith's. It was
Carrie Fisher's.

Speaker 7 (16:49):
You are so fired, Wait till I tell Penny?

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Does this mean that I'm gonna have to return your car?

Speaker 7 (16:54):
And Penny Marshals, I'm just I'm gonna you might need
the thank you? Are you going to bring prostitutes to
Ben's new three million.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
Dollar hole and Ben afflex? You know I'm not a prostitute.
I'm Carrie Bradshaw, right, carriage a column. I'm carried your Carrie.
I right, you're right, I am Apparently one nine from

(17:28):
half and the pool party was over.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
I'm not leaving without my friends.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
I'm so sorry.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
The fake Fendy ended up costing one hundred and fifty
for the bag, two thousand and stolen credit card charges,
and unspecified costs to Samantha's ego and across the compound,
Miranda and I took a wrong turn on the way
to the buffet.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
To be fair, they probably were saved for being kicked
out because we know it gets real bad, real bad.
As we've talked about in past episodes.

Speaker 5 (18:04):
It's time to go home.

Speaker 7 (18:06):
Oh, there you are.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
We have to leave.

Speaker 7 (18:09):
We are right now.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
It's nice to have a group of friends. It's just like,
all right, we gotta go. Let's do it.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 6 (18:39):
Anny, come on, I feel like I did a pretty
good job.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
I'll give you a C.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
I'm gonna give you a C C plus all.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Right, bye, I'll give you the C plus on this one.
But yeah, so I was right. This was the episode
with Hugh Hefner in his glory of being idolized by everyone,
including women, with the brand really blowing up. You saw
it everywhere. People were wearing the T shirts, wearing that
kind of necklace with the bunny again, like you were saying,

(19:13):
like we were saying, previously he got an easy out
before his death, like he saw, well, you know what,
today he still may be celebrated because look at where
we're at with a lot of sex criminals, alleged sex
criminals that are in charge of things, and it's really
appalling and disheartening to see. But like, yes, this was

(19:38):
one of those episodes they celebrated him being on this show.
And I'm sure I'm sure looking back on it, like
some of the producers, even you know, Sarahjisca Parker and
especially like Cynthia Nixon would have come back and be like, no,
we absolutely would not have done this scene where it
went today. But yeah, like this did not age well

(20:03):
in so many ways. But yeah, there was a lot
of la hate in this specific episode.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
Two.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
What did you think of this episode?

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Uh, well, it was a wild ride.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
I'll say that I was not anticipating Carrie Fisher to
show up.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
That was Yes, I remember when Vince Vaughn talked up.
I was like, oh, this is this is that episode.
I was really happy about it. You got a good
dose of niceness and then playing herself being her like
I love it versus all of that.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yes, very her sarcastic, what are you doing self? And
I have to say, own my own biases.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
I guess. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
But when I was reading the description of what happened
in this one and then it said a housekeeper, I
thought of a woman. I didn't know it was going
to be Vince Vaughn. So they got me on that one.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
Ooh.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
But also I do love like he's like, oh no,
this is all mine again once again that theory of
like everything's.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Fake there, everything's fake.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
It's kind of fake.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
So oh yeah, yeah, but I mean.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
It is interesting kind of the dark differences they painted
of like New York and LA and that message of yes,
things are fake here, and you know, we have to
go back and face our.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
Our realities, and our realities are in New York.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
So Charlotte, Who's was kind of experimenting and flirting, realizing that,
oh wait, I do have a marriage. There are benefits
to marriage.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Being single is not great.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Being single is not you know, I immediately wanted it
after I got married, but now I realized there were
things that are not great about it.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Maybe I don't hate this so much?

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yes, And then Carrie just realizing, you know, oh, I'm
not on the guest list.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
I'm on the list.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
It just operates differently here. I'm kind of nobody here.
I love that she said to Carrie Fisher, Oh, I'm
Carrie Brasshaw.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
She would know that is.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
And then I'm Miranda realizing her friend who she thought
had found in her peace, had not in fact a
set of problems, had a very different set of problems.
That is incredibly sad to me to eat a piece
of steak and spit it out because you just want

(22:39):
to taste it and then not eat it. That also
says a lot about their attitude towards La and what's
going on there. But yes, and then Samantha trying to
fit in with these Huefner ladies and then kind of
embarrassing herself and being like, Nope, okay, we have to go,
we have to leave.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
Now.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
There's so many layers. You're like, what is happen? What
is happening? What is happening? Because you're like just watching
and going, oh, this is embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
I don't like I forgot how much they cover in
these episodes that are only thirty ish minutes. Yeah, because
I feel like a lot was covered. I'm surprised. I
guess I'm not really surprised. I'm sure they probably talked
about it more in the last episode, but I'm surprised
there wasn't more mention of kind of what they were

(23:37):
running from. Yeah, but I'm interested to see what happens
when they go back to New York now that they've
had this little excursion, but they still have their problems
waiting for them.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Yes, all the Yeah, all of it's still waiting and
to see how it resolves or does prediction you have production.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Wait, so we're on a episode fourteen and there's like twenty.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
In this season.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
That's a great question.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
I think that I think there's probably twenty ish.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Yeah, so we gotta think that maybe until eighteen that
could be.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
So we're heading towards the season.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
For now end.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
Okay, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
I feel like whatever's going on with Big, it's strange
to me because I do know ultimately what happened. Yeah,
so I'm like, when when does it come to fruition?
When does it start? But there's got to be something
with Big and Carrie for sure. I don't know when
Steve's coming back into the picture. How long does Charlotte

(24:42):
stay married.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
To tre not long. I don't think very long at all.
We'll see, yeah, because she's got that other guy.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Yeah, there's six seasons, so I guess there's time to
introduce the other guy. I'm trying to calculate.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
I love that you're trying to like be very meticulous
in your productions of a show that we have not
picked up until today after a year long stake. It
just is. But yes, I'm excited to talk more about this.
I will say once again, some of these episodes have
not aged well, and we're gonna have to like address
some of those conversations as it comes. We want to

(25:25):
keep addressing these conversations. I think it's important to undo
some of the things that we once thought was okay,
because I really, in my before everything went down, because
everything we saw about like hustler Hugh Hefter was seen
as a good guy in this business, and then you realize, ooh,
and this is kind of where we talk about sex

(25:45):
work in general, like where it becomes that gray area,
not because of anything that necessarily that the women are doing,
but what is sometimes perpetuated and what is upholding and
who's allowed to profit and are in power, Like it
did have a hold on us and it really kind
of shaped the way we thought of things and did

(26:06):
influence sexuality for women and being able to embrace that
sexuality in friendship too, Yes, and in the friendships.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
And also just to say, like, I think this is
a more complicated conversation, but it is interesting to me
how even now that they were so open in the
beginning talking about getting a Brazilian like that wasn't something
you would see on TV. And you can argue like
the pluses and minuses of that, but just the fact

(26:39):
that they were talking about it, because that is a
thing that people do and it's just not discussed and
for them to just say like, hey, so, I think
that's one of the reasons this show had such an
impact on so many people is that it had those
conversations and it didn't feel like a big deal. It
was kind of just like, yep, that's something that we

(26:59):
did today.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
That's so.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Yeah, I'm excited we're back and we're restarting this and

Betrayal Season 5

Betrayal Season 5

Saskia Inwood woke up one morning, knowing her life would never be the same. The night before, she learned the unimaginable – that the husband she knew in the light of day was a different person after dark. This season unpacks Saskia’s discovery of her husband’s secret life and her fight to bring him to justice. Along the way, we expose a crime that is just coming to light. This is also a story about the myth of the “perfect victim:” who gets believed, who gets doubted, and why. We follow Saskia as she works to reclaim her body, her voice, and her life.
