Well, in my constant plight of not having enough refrigerator space,
I'm trying to get rid of all of the light
beer my friends left at our place. So that's what

Can you do a small introduction of yourself for our listeners?
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yes, Hello, my name is Rema.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
I am an audio producer, recording artists, sound designer based
in Atlanta and I produce for First Off Mom never
told you. Happy to be on the team. And yeah,
outside of iheartwork, I also do sound for movies sometimes

and also make music sometimes, So I like a microphone.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Okay, I love that because we didn't know you recorded music.
How would you describe your music?
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Well, I haven't released anything in a long time. I
was in a band with some friends of mine, and
but it's always under the the indie rock umbrella. Synth, heavy, bass, heavy,
but yeah, some good old, good old rock and roll,
good old rock and roll. But it's been a minute.
It's been a minute since anything drop o good old rock.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
You know what? We love anything rock and roll, synth, wonderful.
I feel like that's a common uh factor through all
of our producers. They know their music and they lost the.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Good I feel like it's a a lot of people
try to go into audio via music and then sometimes
figure out that they prefer doing more dialogue things like that,
at least from what I've talked to. So a lot
of the producers at iHeart even make their own music
and stuff. It's a common through line.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
I guess I would say so, But I also have
to say, you're sounding cooler by the minute.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Again, we're just starting, Oh okay, just starting. It's downhill
from here, Yeah, it's down.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Okay, I can't wait. But I appreciate being gassed uff,
I appreciate that. Well, we love we're so happier here.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
You really got kind of thrown into the fire because
we were like, well, we do all this stuff and
it happens at random times, and we promised we're normally
not like this, and then we continued to be like.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
That, Yeah, that's all right, that's really all right.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
It's part of the job built for it. I was
raised in the darkness. So they said, well, speaking of.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
How did you get to podcasting, how did this become
your career?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Good question.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
I was never a kid or an adult even that
knew what they wanted to do.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
And I was never.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Really good at any specific thing, if that makes sense.
And so I went to college for something completely different
and kind of picked up audio work in.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
My spare time for fun.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
And then I ended up taking a like music technology
class at school, and I was like, oh, this is
so much better than what I've been doing, basically because
I was studying like cognitive psychology and political sci which
is like shout out to the sciences and all of that.
(06:42):
That's great, It just wasn't for me. I wasn't great
at school. So yeah, I started kind of working at
a studio, and then after I graduated, freelanced audio stuff
radio plays and music and also some podcasts, and then
ended up getting a shot here at iHeart And that
(07:03):
was five years ago.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Now, yeah, and here I am. You came in the
middle of COVID. Yeah, I can't.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
I started working here in twenty twenty one. Oh yes,
we're making faces. You can't see listeners.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
That's like you had to adjust in a way that
was unique timing. And I say this as a person
like it came right before COVID, So I would have been
at the office off and on, and I wasn't even
full time yet for like five or six months, and
then we were like gone.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
So I could only imagine it was a learning curve.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
But also in a way, in a way it kind
of suited me because I was never going to be
at the office from nine to five, you know what
I'm saying. That's that's something that I've ever had to do,
and so in a way.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
It kind of worked out.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
But obviously it was difficult to start anything and do
anything during COVID.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Being nosy, Uh, have you always been in Atlanta or
are you a transplant? No?
Speaker 3 (08:06):
I am a trans weird way to ask, I guess
I'm a transplant in a way.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
I was born in Atlanta, and I lived here until
I was like six six or seven, and then I
moved to Southwest Asia in the Middle East.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
I'm Araon. I grew up over there.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
I went to college there, I graduated college, and then moved.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Back here afterwards.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Okay, yes, because my sister was and yeah, my sister
and brother were living here.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Oh okay.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
And the way things work over there is even though
I lived there for I went to school in the UAE,
and once your student visa expires, like you got to go.
So so when I graduated college, I graduated college and
I had to go, and I was like, well, I
guess I'll go to Atlanta for a little bit, not

thinking it was gonna last five years. But I love Atlanta,
so this is this is home now.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Okay. I was gonna say, that's a big jump.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
I didn't really think you were gonna be like out,
like out of the country, that you were one of
the few who was truly born in Atlanta. So you
you are unique and so great because like no one's
born in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
It's very rare real. But also you.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Know, maybe the listeners will catch that. You know, it
wasn't technically Atlanta. It was like I was in Woodstock,
which is north of.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Okay, but you know you're from the neck of the wood. Yes,
I'm in North Georgia.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah, I have to drive past that town to get
to my town further up. My family leg and j
great apples. Did you tell about the accent apples?
Speaker 3 (09:49):

No one else outside of Georgia, and we're talking about.

I will be going there in a couple of months
to get some apples.

like through there, now, I'm like, this was not how
it was there, but what is that? That's how I feel.
And I'm much older than you.

Okay, well, very excited. I love learning about background. I'm like,
that's one of the things.

That I, uh, I have to.

so because that's gonna be a thing that we do.
But I need to know. One, what is your favorite
type of food that you can have, like, you know,
for whether it's like Mexican, Chinese, all those things too.

What is your favorite dessert or do you like do
you like dessert us? Another thing? And three with the
one snack that you must have all the time. These
are very important questions for me. I know, I'm just
saying I have to.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Yeah, I've got a drink going and we're talking serious
stuff now, Okay, So I'm I'm Arab, I'm Palestinian, and
so that to me is the greatest cuisine in the world.
So I guess if we're talking, yeah, like genre of food,
it will always be Arab food.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Like, no doubt, no doubt on that.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
I'm also vegan and if someone they have to tell
you that they're vegan, it's within the first five minutes
of you know.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Well, you know it's important.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
But a lot of that kind of Mediterranean food lends
itself very easily to veganism as well. So shout out
to my Arabs over there making delicious food.
Speaker 3 (12:21):

Second, do you eat desserts, and if so, what is
your favorite.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
I do eat desserts. I love dessert. That was gonna
be judgement, I don't. I would just give you a lot.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
My favorite dessert is probably a brownie or a cookie.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
I love chocolate. I love chocolate. I like to bake,
and that's usually what I'm baking.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
If I'm bacon, okay, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Milk chocolate for sure, unless you're if you're baking things.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Sometimes you need to use dark or semi sweet. But
to just eat is milk either oat milk and rice milk.
Those they make good chocolates.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
And then the last question was the one snack that
you need to make sure is around.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
That's actually okay, I'm sure I'll think of a better
answer tonight when I'm rethinking everything I said today. But
now that we're talking about chocolate, I love eating chocolate chips,
so I will literally take straight milk chocolate chips, obvious
semi sweet chocolate chips. So maybe that's because if you're

ever like late night and you need something sweet, you
just open up a packet of chocolate.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Chips and it'll you'll have a good time.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
You'll have a good time, and that's the market for
a good night, you know what.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Maybe yeah, maybe that, okay, okay, no.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Yeah, those are the things that I have to have
in my list of understanding about you, and later I
will ask about like allergies, but we won't do this
on the secondary or whatever. You know, you know you
letting us know you're vegan is very helpful as well. Yes, again,
we will. We will be making sure that we go
to appropriate places when we go to sealiscate.

Atlanta if we're hanging out in Atlanta is a very
vegan friendly city and I always have good food when
I'm here, so m h.

There's so many new restaurants out there too that I
want to try for sure, like new vegan locations that
I'm like.

Here, yeah, and a lot of places even if they
don't have vegan food on the menu, which they should,
they'll just make me something, which is basically.

Yeah for me.

The walks in and they're like, hey, yeah, what's you
my favorite.

Restaurant at this point, Like we walk in and they're like, so,
what are we feeling today? And I'm like, well, maybe
something something like a pasta or something or you have
the area and they're like, yes, media, they're just sick
of me asking the server what what can be made

Like, just we'll do it instead. No, I love it
all right.

The other questions because this is something that we've discussed
often amongst ourselves, and we've been discussing for a while.
So would you consider yourself an extrovert, an introvert, or
an ambi avert?
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Okay, I consider myself an extrovert generally, but I'm an
extrovert that needs a lot of processing time, a lot
of solo processing time. But I feel I find myself
the having the most fun and the most confident within

with around people versus by myself.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Probably.

Okay, so you like to be out? How do you
feel about dancing?
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Love to dance? Okay, that's good to.

You know some people who just did not want to
do this, you know, they're like, that's their nightmare is
to go to an area that's dancing. So I need
to know because I love good dancing. I am an
introvert that can be extroverted, but I love some dancing.

Yes, I can an extrovert that can be introverted, for sure.
So we'll meet in the middle, you know, on the
dance floor.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
I like it any because you've gone back and forth
like you, you have been all across the board when
it comes to that level. Do you consider yourself more
of an introvert now?
Speaker 3 (16:52):
No?

I actually I've taken like test and test and test,
and it's always like.

You because I'm an extrovert, and not even by a
little by a lot.

I think the thing is sometimes people forget that.

That doesn't necessarily mean I have to have people. It
means I have to have a new stimulus real I
need something to stimulate me. And I think that's absolutely true.
So even though I'm like not going out as much
as I used to, I do still need that kind
of like new.

and I had a like blog for my favorite band

Obsessed with them for a very long time. So probably
that was like my fandom. And then also just being
on Tumblr, you're in many different fandoms at once, the
Sherlock of It All and the Doctor Who and Star

love them. I still think they're a great fan. I
just I'm not as I'm don't repost photos of them

going to a concert and we got behind the tour

Oh man, it's funny too because it requires the knowledge
of tree. I know.

I feel like my favorite tree is a willow tree.
I don't and maybe that's what I would be. Then
I like that they they hold a lot in the
world underneath them, and or they flow with the movement
of air. So maybe that maybe a willow tree and

Oh, I was gonna say there's something wise about them.
They feel wild, and I think they just endure and
are long lasting.

Arab and we had a palm tree growing up.

So I love good. I love a willow.

I like I would like one, and I don't know
which one it would be, but I like one that
changes its colors, the leaves change colors like the bottom
something with some like transformation.

because I'm like the tree that I hate the most
is actually, I think the Georgia State Tree, and I
just have feelings about the Magnolia tree.

Know. But this is the thing though, because like I
also am like the person who says I love cats.
I mean, I love dogs, but I would be probably
a cat more than a dog myself in personality. But
the reason I say that about the magnolia tree is
because what I remember growing up, because there was a
giant one, which they are. They get huge, they smell

nice for a short period of time, and then they
get really stinky to me real quickly with the flowers.
And then those damn leaves when they fall off, and
if you get hit by one, if you get poked
by one, it hurts so ridiculously like it's so annoying.
I think, I remember, I have memories of it falling
on my head in the prickly list, and I'm cursing
at a damn tree. And then the amount of leaves

that are around and that just sit there and that
just like rot, I get so angry for really no
reason at all. And I'm sure I'm having a lot

That also seems to mean my partner really knows a

watched All About My Mother, the Pedro Almodovar movie. Also

even though during its release. She was seen as the

How would you describe your music?

Well, I haven't released anything in a long time. I
was in a band with some friends of mine, and

How did you get to podcasting, how did this become

I was never a kid or an adult even that
knew what they wanted to do.

Really good at any specific thing, if that makes sense.
And so I went to college for something completely different
and kind of picked up audio work in.

My spare time for fun.

And then I ended up taking a like music technology
class at school, and I was like, oh, this is
so much better than what I've been doing, basically because
I was studying like cognitive psychology and political sci which
is like shout out to the sciences and all of that.

That's great, It just wasn't for me. I wasn't great
at school. So yeah, I started kind of working at
a studio, and then after I graduated, freelanced audio stuff
radio plays and music and also some podcasts, and then
ended up getting a shot here at iHeart And that

was five years ago.

Now, yeah, and here I am. You came in the
middle of COVID. Yeah, I can't.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
I started working here in twenty twenty one. Oh yes,
we're making faces. You can't see listeners.

That's like you had to adjust in a way that
was unique timing. And I say this as a person
like it came right before COVID, So I would have been
at the office off and on, and I wasn't even
full time yet for like five or six months, and
then we were like gone.

So I could only imagine it was a learning curve.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
But also in a way, in a way it kind
of suited me because I was never going to be
at the office from nine to five, you know what
I'm saying. That's that's something that I've ever had to do,
and so in a way.

It kind of worked out.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
But obviously it was difficult to start anything and do
anything during COVID.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Being nosy, Uh, have you always been in Atlanta or
are you a transplant? No?

I am a trans weird way to ask, I guess
I'm a transplant in a way.

I was born in Atlanta, and I lived here until
I was like six six or seven, and then I
moved to Southwest Asia in the Middle East.

I'm Araon. I grew up over there.

I went to college there, I graduated college, and then moved.

Back here afterwards.

And the way things work over there is even though

thinking it was gonna last five years. But I love Atlanta,
so this is this is home now.

I didn't really think you were gonna be like out,
like out of the country, that you were one of
the few who was truly born in Atlanta. So you
you are unique and so great because like no one's

wasn't technically Atlanta. It was like I was in Woodstock,

I'm also vegan and if someone they have to tell
you that they're vegan, it's within the first five minutes

But a lot of that kind of Mediterranean food lends
itself very easily to veganism as well. So shout out
to my Arabs over there making delicious food.

at a damn tree. And then the amount of leaves

Oh yes, Well it's funny you say that because literally
yesterday my partner and I finished watching the original run
of twin Peaks, the Lynch TV show. God that was
insane and beautiful and crazy, and I'm still processing that one.

There's still more to watch, but I'm taking a small break,
so maybe that and then movie wise, I also recently
watched All About My Mother, the Pedro Almodovar movie. Also
highly recommend add it to the Thebtist Friday list. It
was like a gorgeous movie about womanhood, parenthood, friendship, and

forgiveness in women womanhood And I am listen and I'm
not even I'm I'm a non binary guy.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
So I don't even.

But there's something about watching a movie about women that
really that really supports and promotes just like the complexity
of each character versus bringing them down to just the
trait of being a woman anyways.

That we love the intersectionality of it all because that's
that's what we want to see. So I was just yeah,
thinking about like any you were talking about obsession and
like the layers that it has, it keeps you thinking
it's movies like that and books like that and shows
like that that just really like what is happening, but
at the same time like leave you that pondering and

that feeling of like.

Hmmm, it stays with you.

Those moments I love hate those moments, and it's kind
of my general vibe I think in life. All right,
now we're getting down to the nitty gritty, real important stuff,

Sex in the City anyway?

Everything I just said exactly.

Because I have watched Sex in the City. I will
say it was a painful watch for me because Carrie.

Annoys me so much. You're not right.

Your decision making annoys me so much. And I don't
know where you guys are on your watch of on
the show. I remember you were doing that, but the
way it ends is crazy.

M Yeah. So Annie has not seen all of these yet.
She is slowly building up. We are very slowly building
up because season three, Okay, we're almost done with season three.

The reason we asked this is a you will have
to come on as a part of our show. It's
kind of like the initiation watch with us and reaction
with us, because we think it's very important that the

But with that, just without like following up later with
our quiz, what is what character of the sex city
in the city would you be most like?

Another bigger? Okay, that's really hard for me.

Okay, Also to be honest, I have not watched this
in a really long time, so I'm using memory of
why I was annoyed at every single person on the show.
But it's definitely not Care is definitely not Charlotte. Maybe
I would probably say Samantha because Samantha is the most firstly,

is like gay and so that obviously, and then it's
also the character that actually was kind of the least
taken by the men in her life. I think maybe
from what I remember, kind of owned herself.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
Although have you guys watched the movies yet?
Speaker 2 (37:35):
So she Annie, did you watch the first one?

Though you didn't want to what you did? Right?

No, I's everybody to go watch that horrible name Night
Shaalan movie that happening and.

They were real mad at me though.

So I seen the first one, I refused to I
was gonna go. I was like, I was already I
would No, we were already. I was not emotionally prepared.
And so when we do, because we will if we
make it through. That's the biggest try to get through that,
because we do want to take it as a whole.

But no, but why what what?
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Well, just because the second movie is set in the Middle.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
East and it's so bad stereotype it is everything. Yeah,
oh my god, it's so terrible, and why would you
do this in the Middle East? Why would you do that? Literally?
Speaker 4 (38:36):
And that is to say, like Samantha in that movie
really upsets me.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Okay, but maybe maybe Samantha. What was the fourth ones? Miranda?
Speaker 4 (38:47):
Right, Miranda, Well, Miranda should have been gay too. They
should have all been gay. But that's just my head canon.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
I guess you haven't, just like us, I have not
seen the follow up. So Miranda ends up figuring some
things out, not to not to spoil too much, but
she ends up figuring some things.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
I mean, we'll we'll just leave that up. I mean
we'll live at that.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Yeah, Because I would say, like Miranda's attitude is probably
even though during its release. She was seen as the
annoying one, but she was probably the most real to
me in like in like understanding she doesn't give up,
have to give up her life if she even with
all these things, and also kind of coming to terms
(39:36):
with the fact that sometimes Carrie is.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
The worst over the top.
Speaker 4 (39:43):
Excuse me, excuse me to the Carrie fans, I I,
you know, support women's rights and wrongs.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
I think, there you go, there you go.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
But at the same time, we don't have to be fans.

Of all them. Yes, absolutely right, that's just a thing
we know, okay.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
And then as tradition, because we've been doing a little
bit of Sex in the City such that I had
to send out a quiz to y'all. It is an
updated quiz, so I had to take in myself as well.

The funny thing is, We've taken similar quizzes I think
three or four times. I still maintain I haven't seen
the show, so some of the questions I'm like, I
don't know who any of these people are, so I'm
just like picking randomly, like this guy I don't know maybe,

but yeah, it's it. I got Carrie and it said
you probably think you're a Samantha or Charlotte. Try not
to overthink it.

Acute you feel which, by the way, I was also
a Carrie, and I was very disappointed. I kind of
wanted to throw the phone because I was like, this

I also I was answering and I was like some
of these like faces that they were having us shooes between.

One time a listener wrote in with what I think
is a really good point is that like usually people
are blended characters, so like you're a Miranda and a
Samantha like you're a blend.

I actually I would like the side characters to be
some of the people that we are. They talked about Magda,
I was like she was judgmental, but then she was
a great caretaker.

I'm annoyed with Carrie, because I'm like, girl, how many

But you know, we all fall into our patterns and
all those things. I love to judge like a TV character,
but if you are relating to carry at all, I'm

bad choices were the parts that really would just like
why why are we doing this? What's what's happening? But
like some of the things made sense, some of the
things like sure, but the back and board, like we've
talked about the cultural context and honestly, a lot of

like uh, freedom taught women and like their sexuality and
opening up. Maybe like some of the younger generation be
like that was too much, y'all need to calm down.
Maybe because we were like in our generation, we were
way too repressed that we went way overboard to THEO
Like gen zs are like, stop it, y'all.

Yeah, isn't it? Like gen Z is like not really
into sex as much.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
They're like, why is this such a big deal to
Y'all's not a big deal to us, and then we
wanted we the uh you know what millennials. I was like,
gen Z millennials slash me, I'm a part gen X millennial.

Like you're welcome. Yeah, the hard work that we did
not mean allowed you did not have to care. No,
I'm just kidding.

It's kind of funny because that's kind of the re
or gens. Sex in the City, though, really did bring
in something even for the newer generation of like how
like we started to talk about things. There's a lot
of cringe moments of like, oh yeah that did not age. Well,
this did not.

Watching things in hindsight is always different. Yeah, for sure.

Yeah, yeah, I'm I consider myself gen Z, but I'm
like I'm in that cusp gen Z millennial. Okay, so
I kind of have It's like I have an angel
and a devil, but it's like two devils on my shoulder.

Then, yes, I'm the excellennial. I'm on the Okay, yes, yes, absolutely,
I'm old. Everything's fine.

Well, I think we should end with one something something surprising,
fun fact about you that you would tell us and

I was like, I'm like, I've never had a fact
about me ever in my life.

We also found out you have a cat. Yes, I
have an eighteen year old cat. I have an eighteen
year old cat and her name is five and I
got her when I was in fifth grade. We found
each other, so.

I also have another cat, my partner's cat, Moshi, And
that's my beautiful family.

I loosely can speak, and we loosely can speak Spanish.
