Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hey, this is Annie.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
And Samantha.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
And welcome to Stuff I Never Told You, a production
of iHeartRadio. And welcome to another edition of Happy Hour.
As always, if you choose to drink or whatever you're
choosing to do, please do so responsibly. Samantha, are you
up to anything?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I am doing bubbly water. Today's a busy day.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
As per all the days. But also, I will be
teaching my Zumba later. So, I can't be sleepy. I
can't be sleepy. I gotta be on my toes and hydrated. Yes.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Very important. Very important.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
I'm still working on the rosé.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Ooh.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
I've also had a busy morning. I mentioned recently that
my landlord... is coming to fix my air conditioner. And
this is a much bigger ordeal than it needs to be.
And I just have this huge table that's got all
of this stuff on it right in front.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Of the AC.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I think it took me over an hour and 30
minutes to move that, move my other table, and then
to clean the floor because I'd never go back there
because I'd never move the table.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Did you get a surprise?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
I mean, he's going to be mad at me. When
I first moved in, he was very adamant about the
quality of the wood floor. And the wood floor under
the AC is warped. That's not me.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Right.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
But he's going to be mad about that for sure.
He's coming later today. It's going to be fun for me.
So a little stressed.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
And speaking of stress. It is that time of year.
It is the time for DragonCon.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
DragonCon is a huge convention that takes place in Atlanta
over Labor Day weekend, which this year falls later than
it usually falls. Normally, it's in August, like the last
weekend in August. My brain keeps malfunctioning, thinking that I
have to be ready by this weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
But I have one more weekend.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yes. To get my act together. And what an act
I have to get together. Because I haven't done anything.
I haven't done a single thing. I am too stressed
to be excited about this. I know I'll be happy
when I'm there.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
And I am not excited at this point. I am stressed.
I can feel it.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
I can feel it.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
But yes.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I mean it's just like. For listeners who don't know,
who maybe haven't listened over the past years that I've
been doing this, I usually go Thursday night to a hotel.
I stay in a hotel in downtown Atlanta until Monday.
And the whole thing is just kind of exhausting. So

(03:12):
it's getting prepared work-wise and cosplay-wise for this event and
then the exhaustion after. And we have all this other
stuff coming up, including a voyage. Virgin voyages, which we
are going to talk about a nerdy topic, I think

(03:33):
I would say. But yeah, we are from October 2nd
to 7th from New York City to Bermuda. Adult only
voyage with our friends at Virgin Voyages. Other podcasts, stuff
you should know and stuff they don't want you to
know will be there. We are going to be recording live.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
On this trip.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
And it's going to be really cool. I think it's
going to be really fun. We'll also be around and about.
We're going to participate in an event that everybody's welcome
to come to. We would love to have you. So
if you would like to learn more, you can go
to virginvoyages.com slash stuff. But yeah, I mean, some listeners

(04:16):
have met up with me at DragonCon.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
So if you're coming to an event you know we'll
be at, Just let us know. One time it was
really awkward with this listener. I still feel bad about this.
But I was a speaker one year at DragonCon. And
when you're a speaker, you get a separate press badge.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
And I.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Already had a badge. So I was able to give
my friend that badge. But it said my name on it.
So a listener found her and was like, Annie? And
my friend was.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Like, no.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
But I wasn't trying to escape or be like anonymous
or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
That's just how it worked out. But yeah. Anyway, anyway, anyway.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Back to my stress. This is also something I've talked
about before. It's a huge event. I think about 80,000
people go overall over the course of it. And so
the Unfortunately, the society we live in, gun violence, always scared.
COVID having a massive resurgence right now. And now I've

(05:29):
got to worry about lettuce and produce. What am I
going to eat?

Speaker 2 (05:33):
That's legitimate. That's legitimate.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I'm literally trying to think of the safest things I
can eat because I wear a bodysuit at DragonCon. Can
you imagine that? something goes wrong and you're in a bodysuit.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Oh, Lord.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Yeah, these are considerations I've got to think about. Something
else is last year, because I go as Disco Luke Skywalker,
I think I'm just kind of set in that cosplay.
I do get sad because I have so many great
cosplays and I never take them, but just the loading
in process of all of that, got four to five

(06:14):
people in one hotel room. You've got to think about space.
But last year, my golden heels broke. And I almost
had a really embarrassing fall.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I didn't.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
So this year, I wanted to go in golden tennis
shoes because I thought it would be more comfortable. I
spent most of the day just standing and watching other cosplays.
They're super cute. They're really squeaky, though. They have a
sound every step. So I've read that if I put

(06:49):
baby powder in there, like, I don't know, though.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Or if you put too much, you're going to have
poofs of baby powder coming up from the boobs.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
That's true. You're right.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
That's happened to me. Oh, no.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Has it really?

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
I think I was super young. I forgot what it
was for. And I just remember, like, yep, there it goes. Poof.
And I was like, oh, I have to dump this out.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
I overdid it.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
I'm glad you brought that up. I didn't really know
that was another concern.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Make sure you're just like, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Careful.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Little bits. Little goes a long way.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Okay. Okay. Got it. Thank you.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
My friend is going as Syndrome from The Incredibles. And
we got to hang out, Samantha, my friend, and Samantha's
partner and I last night for a wonderful dinner and
you gave me a great matching koozie for my cosplay.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
I had to search. There are no goals. I had
to get that specially made for you because I was like,
and shout out to the person that did it because
I was like, I need this immediately. So I did
this last week because it came in my head and
I was like, what do you need from DragonCon? And
I was like, oh, she needs, I know you have them.
I know you, but I'm like, I don't think she

(08:08):
has one that matches me.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
No.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
I had to get on the search and special request
this for you to make sure it matched your outfit.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
I love it. I immediately was like, yes, this is
Disco Luke. It's going to match.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
It's going to be great. I texted her first thing
this morning like, did you understand my gift is not
just a kitschy gift?

Speaker 1 (08:29):
No, I got it immediately, immediately. But anyway, we were
hanging out at this dinner and I.
I was like, Katie, you got to show them your hair.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
She's got this like comb thing that she puts her
hair through.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
And it looks fantastic. It does. It looks fantastic.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Every year she has such a great cosplay and she
also participates a lot more in the handing out of
ribbons and items. I don't do that, but she really does.
So she's a hit. She's popular and I'm excited.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
To see the reaction you still haven't done your qr
code have you.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
No i meant to so this was your idea last
year well i had originally someone told me i should
have a qr code where people could just scan yeah
uh because no one knows what my cosplay is like
i mean i'd say 10 people over all the time.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
I've been doing it. A few people. Yeah, but no
one else.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
And so it was like, you scan the code and
it would take you to the video that is kind
of the origin of this whole cosplay. But you had
the idea of getting a ribbon that said, you guessed wrong, essentially.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Nice, in a nice way.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Nice try.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
But, yeah, I've just been so, so busy. I really,
this weekend is going to be a real crunch for me.
This is a big DragonCon too. It's the 40th anniversary.

(10:14):
So I think they're going to really do it up
this year. We shall see. This brings us to the
annual What Will the Big Cosplays Be this year.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
I'm going to throw out Obsession before you do.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Blast!

Speaker 3 (10:33):
That was my first one, but I did move it
down because, unfortunately.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
We have just recently lost Dolly Parton. That's true. And
Tim Curry.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Oh, Tim Curry is going to be a big one.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
You're right. Yeah, I think that those are going to be,
that's going to be a big showing. One year I
wanted to go, a group of my friends and I
wanted to go as just different Tim Currys.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
I love Tim Curry.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Scared the out of me from it.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Yes. know why i always forget he was pinning wise from.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
It he was horrifying to me as a child because
of that one and legend i've never seen the cartoon
the tom cruise pantsless movie i think that we need
to come back to that yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
We should put that as a feminist movie friday one
day i have never seen this movie and i'm very
intrigued by the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
But bro tim curry as the devil scary He was
the devil? Yes, I believe so.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty positive. Frightening.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
I wanted to go as the long John Silver from
Muppet Cheshire Island, Tim Curry. That was the one I wanted.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
He was darkness, but he absolutely was the devil. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Yeah, let's put that on the list. I've been meaning
to figure this out.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Yeah, put that on the list.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
You're right.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Well, with that and the death of Dolly Parton, I
was like, we need to put still Magnolias. Why haven't we?

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Oh, yeah. That's true. Our list grows longer and longer.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Anyway, keep going.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Before those unfortunate deaths happened, my first guess was Obsession.
I think there will be someone, at least one person
as Nikki with the flowers. in front of her face.
And then some variation of the One-Wish Willow, I'm not
quite sure, but I feel like someone's going to dress as, like,
the box or something.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
You think so? Yeah. Or the hotline guy.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
I think someone's going to go as, like, the hotline guy.
I also think, I could be wrong, but at DragonCon,
there's a hallway where people put shrines now.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
I think there'll be a shrine to Sandy, the cat.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
That would make sense. Yes. That would make absolute sense.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yes. So it's, It's interesting because Dragon Con used to
be every year I could tell you this is going
to be the biggest costume. It's not like that anymore.
I feel like it's much more dispersed. So I think
that will be a big showing. But I also think
there will be some from the movie They Will Kill You,

(13:19):
which is a fun horror.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Movie that I talked about.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
I do want to see that one.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Oh, it's great. It's fantastic.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
I love the actress.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
I think Spider-Man will be pretty big because we've got
the new movie, but we also have Spider-Noir came out.
So I think that'll be stuff from that. I'm not
sure about this, but I'm wondering if people will come
as X-Men that have just recently been announced. So like
the movie hasn't come out yet, but you could do

(13:50):
some like Nikki from Obsession and Rogue movies. Like, that
could be a fun mix-up of a costume. Also, Odyssey,
like Spider-Man Odyssey, I'm sure there will be something.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
The crossover.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Well, I was going to say, that's the other part, too.
I feel like it's gone beyond just what's most popular
and easy. It has to be unique, and it needs
to be a unique, like, tongue-in-cheek crossover. That's what I've
seen more of than anything else when it comes to,
especially Dragon Con, to me.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yes, I agree.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
And they're so creative and they're so funny. Like, some
of them are puns I can't imagine that I didn't
come up with. Like, how did I not see this?
I have one at the end I'm going to share.
I do think there's going to be, I hope, I
hope there is one Buff the Hutt. The buff guy

(14:45):
from The Mandalorian and Grogu. If there's like Buffy the
Hutt Slayer or something I would be thrilled.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
That would be fantastic. Hysterical. I'm really hoping for that.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
I think there'll be some Mario because Mario is a
big movie this year. My friend Katie is the anime expert.
I don't really know that much about anime but she
sent me a bunch of she sent me a bunch
of stuff so I think Anime will have a good showing.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
This is my big one. It's a wide category. It's
not one topic. But I think there's going to be
a lot of political memes this year. So I think
there's going to be something about the Hormone Straight. The
Reflecting Pool. There's going to be something about that.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Natalie, what's her name?

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Yes. Yes. The person who cuts my hair this year
is like, someone will be that.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Yes, it's yes.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
I think that's going to be a whole thing. I
think there's going to be some World Cup stuff. Somebody
is going as the grass from the Super Bowl, from
Bad Bunny's Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Oh, I could see Holland. Yeah, I could definitely see
a lot of Holland costumes.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes. But here's my pun.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Here's the one I wish I was doing, but I
don't really have time. I wanted to go as Lettuce
Taylor's version. Yes, I thought it was great. I was
going to get a dress that like it was flowy,
but the kind of ruffles looked like lettuce. And I

(16:23):
was going to hand out toilet paper. And I think
this is the best. And if someone doesn't do it,
I'm going to be really devastated. It's a fantastic. And
it only works.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Now, hopefully. Hopefully it only works this year.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
But that, again, is the thing I do love about
Dragon Con is those kind of creative ideas and just
hearing what people get up to. Yeah. And I'm sure
I'm forgetting, I think last year, the big one, Claire Obscura.
It was a video game I'd never played. Oh, yeah.
And it was for sure the biggest cosplay there. So

(17:05):
I'm sure there's many areas I'm missing over because They're
not something I've played or watched or what have you.
I guess Fallout could be pretty big this year.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
The Boys.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
They just ended.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
The Boys, yeah. Yep, you're right.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
These are the ones that came to my mind, though.
But I would love to hear from listeners if you
have any thoughts. If you're going, or if not, DragonCon
may be a different convention where you're dressing up.
