Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome into Doug Gottlieb Show. We got Doug Gottlieb in
a place that doesn't have any snow in it, which
is just sounds glorious. Right now, Doug, how's it going.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's going well. It's going well.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
If it was going poorly, then something would be going
extremely poorly. Right now. You're in my hometown too. That's
why I'm even more jealous. But we're at the best
time of year in college basketball, March Madness. Obviously, I
know that you would think it was a lot better
if if your team was in it. But I know
that you have, you know, followed college basketball for so long,
So how exciting is March madness for you?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
It's weird, you know. I've been on so many different
last year. I just couldn't even bring myself to stomach
just watching even a possession right like, So, I'm excited,
But I'm not going to sit here and say I'm
a genius about everything going on in college hoops.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
That's fine. Hey, I'm not a genius either, but I
still fill out a bracket. I think that you have
at least a little more, a little more knowledge of it.
Following the game.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
One would one would think, but who knows.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Hey, who knows what anyone filling out a bracket. Let's
get to your bracket though, by the way, before we
do this, have you filled out a bracket on your own,
not this is your first bracket?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Then yes, we're doing We're doing it. We're doing it
right here on WFRV plus.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
I love that. There we go. Okay, let's start in
the top left. We got Duke taking on Sienna. Of course,
the big storyline with the Saints is Jerry McNamara is
their coach, but of course it's the number one overall seed.
Duke or you you pulling for an upset or who
you got?
Speaker 2 (01:38):
No? I mean again, I know sixteen's have beaten ones
in the past. I do think that Caleb Foster being
out for Duke la kid, who's a three year player
as a point guard, being out, I do think that
potentially hurts their chance of winning national championship. But I
don't think it hurts them in terms of beating Sienna.
The Blue Devil's moving on.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
There we go, we got Duke, nopeus Duke. Okay, let's
go Ohio State TCU. These eight and nine are always
tough to pick. Who you got there.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Well, it's interesting, you know, Ohio State kind of stuck
in the tournament. TCU though one of the hotter teams
in the country coming out of the Big Twelve late
in the year. Three of those wins late in the
year were over my own modern Oklhoma State, so I
got a chance to see them. But but Ohio State
they beat us pretty handily. Going back to last year,
I like Ohio State. In this matchup, you have a
(02:28):
ve and senior point guard who's an absolute stud. We
couldn't guard him. I think he's one of the more
underrated players in the country. I'll take the Buckeyes.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Moving on, there we go, so Duke take it on
Ohio State. But we don't do brackets like that. We're
starting with the round of sixty four. Saint John's Northern Iowa,
the Big East champions who got past Yukon against a
Northern i feel like this is one of the five
to twelves that people like it is.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
And you know, Saint John's has had some weird ones
where they haven't been able to score, and of course
Northern Iowa has Wisconsin borne products. Will Hornsteth of course
played to peer Leon Bond who's there as well. And
this is the Northern team that I think had great
aspirations and kind of struggled in the regular season put
together to an arch madness. But the Johnnys are just
(03:17):
a different level of athleticism defensively and they rebound the
hell out of the basketball. My general premise or premise,
my general thought process is dynamic defensive teams win those
early round games. You get to the higher levels. Occasionally,
(03:38):
if you can't score, you can't move on. Saint John's
dynamic defensively, Saint John's wins the game.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
There we go in Northern Iowa's magical run of being
a six seed make in their conference, making all the
way to the tournament, that comes to an end. Okay,
Kansas against the team that is in the state that
you are currently in right now, cal Baptist, I think,
I think this is their first time in the tournament.
And who you got, Bill Sell from the Jayhawks against
cal Baptist.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Rick Kroy is the head coach of cal Baptist, really
good friend of mine, former junior college coach at Citrus,
and of course he's part of that Randy Bennett family
with Saint Mary's and Rick. He does something really cool.
He brings his team down every summer to Newport Beach
and plays pick up basketball with just the staff and
they get other old husbands like myself. So I know
Rick really well. We also know Kansas well because they
(04:24):
kicked the hell out of us and we played their
opening game of the season. People have gotten no Dom Daniels,
who's stud they have, God, what's the kids name? We
recruited him. He's from Milwaukee. James Jackson, who's great kid.
He was at Northern Arizona for a couple of years.
Good kid, good player. I do like cal Baptists to
(04:45):
be competitive. Uh, but Kansas is so early defensively Floria
badunga is I mean Texas rim meecon Garden one through
five and forrest Aaron Peterson even he plays half the game,
that's that's half a game. You struggle to garden. This
is a bit of a talent and financial mismatch. I'll
take the Jayhawks.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Gosh, can't wait for that round of thirty two matchup
if you're right between Rick Patino and Bill self. But yeah,
the Darren Peterson questions that will definitely loom large. We
got Louisville against South Florida the six and eleven. Now
we know that there are stats and statistics. You know,
there's statistics out there that say that eleven's beat six
is more than fifty percent. I don't know how you
feel about Louisville. And you know this is the first
(05:28):
tournament game for Pat Kelsey as the as the head coach. Right,
so taken on South.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Second he plays they play last year?
Speaker 1 (05:34):
They oh yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
And then lawstorn right, I like South Florida. I think
South Florida for the upset. Sure, why not?
Speaker 1 (05:39):
There we go Michigan State, North Dakota State. I assume
you're going Jeremy Fears in company.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
I am North Coast State and a couple guys. I
think the big kid Peterson who's from Wisconsin. They got
they got a couple of guards that we recruited. They
did a great job in terms of their evals. So
a lot of respect for THEE in their program. But yeah,
I think Sparty's a bit too much for him.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
There we go, We're going Sparty there, UCLA, UCS who
you got seven ten?
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Well, mister stand on business. Obviously UCF's power forward. We
saw Jamichael's stillwell. We still have nightmares for playing against him,
who's at Milwaukee last year. They also have folks who
was at Milwaukee. Everybody feel like UW Milwaukee heavier light
or whatever. But I UCLA's elite in their backcourt. I
(06:33):
don't know if Tyler Bill is gonna play, but I
do think U c l A wins his game. That's
a Eric Dailey's a stud kid. He was at Oklahoma
State when I helped out there. Ruins will win the game.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
And we'll see if UCF brings a student section, and
maybe a reporter can once again ask Mick cronin how
he feels about the student section yelling at one of
his players. Got UCLA moving on. Okay, let's go yukon
taking on Furman in the two fifteen.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
I got you Herman. The Paladins great program, but I'm
gonna I'm taking you cut.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Yeah. And that's the gauntlet from a coach as you
are yourself. That's a gauntlet region for coaches with with
Rick Pattino, with Bill self, with John Shire, with with
Danny Hurley and mc cronin and you name it and
Tom Izzo. Okay, let's go down like.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
You sound like oh, let me tell you they got mccron.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
If only I had his voice, right, Okay, And also
the report coming out, I will mention this, Jason Bennetti
will take over for Brian Anderson in the first two
rounds of Anderson hopefully gets his voice back. As all
announcers and anyone that works in sports media knows, that
is the worst thing to have happened to you is
when you lose your voice. Okay, let's go to the
south please.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yes, it's the worst thing in terms of affecting your broadcasting, right,
there's a lot worse things that can happen here.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Yes, one million percent for your job purposes, yes, yes,
I agree. Yeah, try to trust me.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
You know what the deal with the secret in coaching
and in broadcasting is. I'll give people a secret. We
get no money yet from Starbucks, right, okay, but the
medicine ball. You have to drink a medicine ball. Go
to a Starbucks, order a medicine ball, like just a
tall medicine ball every day, just to make sure you
protect the instrument. That's big. Yo. There's a yogi yogi
(08:21):
tea that's called throat coat, kid you not so I
would also recommend that to BA. I said in that
text earlier today. But the medicine ball is just a
go to for any coach any broadcast you'll see and
they walk around with Starbucks cups, which is almost always
a medicine ball tea in the middle of the season.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
I have a friend that does games for the Clippers,
Carla Jimenez, and he stands by medicine ball. That is
his sing. If he has the Starbucks nearby, that's his thing. Okay,
let's go to the South Region Florida taking on whoever
wins that first four game between a pair of sixteen seeds.
Do I even need to name who those two sixteen
seeds are? Nope, Nope, there you go. Okay, Okay, Clemson
(08:56):
take it on Iowa in the eight nine.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Clemson's got some injuries. Iowa, obviously, Ben McCollums teams going
back historically have been great in the tournament, you know,
in the Division two tournament. Good last year with Drake.
I love Iowa, but in this game, I don't think
they got out athleted, so I'll think Iowa over Clemson.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
Well, there we go. I think that is that both
not know you did take a to Ohio State. Okay,
Vandermilt McNeice. If we remember McNeice, they were the upset
team last year that everyone picked, right or was it
a few years ago? Either way, now they're going up
against But here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Here's the thing. It wasn't really an upset because mcneise
had more money than whoever they were playing. Like mcnisse's
last year when we'll wad it was a very well
funded program this year not. I mean they're still well funded, okay,
but I'm I'm not bandy. Really well coached, spread you out,
(09:56):
and they got some cash there too. Byington does an
amazing job as a coach, really tremendous offensive coach. I
know they struggled late in SEC play and then of
course they go all the way in the SEC to
the SEC championship game. I like and Andy by a
good amount. I think Gosh, mcnee's a little bit on
reputation because of last year.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah, and part of the reputation is that guy that
carries the big speaker, Amir Aura Khan. He's back from
NC State. So yeah, okay, well his run comes to
end and maybe he'll go to a different school like
you did. With NC State with Will Wade. Okay, Nebraska
take it on Troy in the four thirteen.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
You know, Nebraska obviously has never won an NCAA tournament game.
Think about that ever one NCAA tournament game. But you
know Rick mouse Like he played for Wartle like in
Wardle's first year at Bradley. He's so old because he
missed last year with injury. I like Nebraska. I think
this is finally the year that the Huskers win NCAA
(10:53):
tournament game.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
There you go, that'd be cool to see. Okay, North
Carolina take it on VCU. There's a lot been made
about UNC and not having their best player. Do you
see VCU pulling off? I mean it might not even
be an upset because North Carolina doesn't have him. Yeah,
I like.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
I like VCU in this matchup Phil Martelly junior. VCU
obviously not the fundy of North Carolina. But when you
take away a kid who could be the number one
pick in the NBA draft, probably top five pick in
the NBA draft, they just haven't looked the same. I
know Seth Trimbles, this is his last kind of go around.
He's had a tremendous other Wisconsin kid, right, but I'm
gonna I'm gonna take VCU for the upset.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Here there we go, and I don't know if you saw,
but the whole Caleb Wilson thing. He was named second
team All American, which means he is eligible to have
his name in the rafters, which I'm fairly sure they're
going to do, which is interesting, weird. Okay, so VC,
you're taking the eleven over the sixth Illinois battling penn
were going Ivy League.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
No. I love Franz, my guy, that's who signed me
a Notre Dame. He's got TJ. Power who had forty
four in the iv League championship game. But Illinois is
they're the best team in FOBA playing in the NCAA
tournament because they have they have so many foreign born players.
I'll take the Alina.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
That's very true. And you just brought up an awful
fact for the Yale Bulldogs who had to watch that shot.
Going to give that guy forty and then he finished
with forty four in that win in the Ivy League championship. Okay,
so you're going with Illinois, Saint Mary's, Texas A and
M seventy ten.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
I mean, this is the battle styles, right, Texas A
and M top five in pace. Saint Mary's the slowest
pace in the NCAA tournament. Right. It is traditionally easier
to slow a game down, that is, to speed it up.
I think they're more difficult in the second game than
they are the first game. Remember, because you only have
like a day of repair for a completely different style.
I think Randy Bennet, I mean you look, Todd Golden
(12:43):
was his assistant, played for him. His family continues to spread, right,
his assistants are all over. Randy's is as good a
coach that I've ever seen. That's That's not to take
away from Bucky Ball, but I like Saint Mary's. Easier
to slow it down there is to speed it up.
I think the Gales will find a way to dominate tempo,
get the ball in and make Texas A and M uncomfortable.
(13:05):
I'm gonna take the gaels. There we go.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
I think you're gonna make this one quick. Do you
have Kelvin Sampson in Houston taking out Idaho? Yes, there
we go. Okay, awesome, Let's go up top top right
to the West Region, Arizona taking on the Sharks of
Long Island.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Former former GB Center ISAAA Miranda on the Sharks in Arizona.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
There we go.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Okay, yeah, Arizona.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Nathy agreed. What you got? Villanova Utah State eight nine?
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Oh interesting one. Villanova back in the tournament. I actually
like going over over Utah. I think there's a chance
to Utah States coaches on the move. Obviously they did
well in the Mountain West, but I think you know,
there's a financial gap disparity there where Nova's a little
(13:59):
bit better up. I'm gonakek no, but.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
There we go. Kevin Willard Company moving on. Okay, Wiscont's
in high Point five twelve. We got our first local team,
our only local team in the men's bracket. Do you
have Bucky moving on or does the does the Badge.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Boyden black Boyden Boyden Blackwell are terrific? And yeah, I
I think was Scott high Points really talented. Flynn climbing
in their new head. I actually my dad and aau.
It's a interesting story, but I got the I got
the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
There go. The Badgers are only one in three when
getting that five seed. But this year the Killer Bees
they look good. Okay, Arkansas Hawaii. Who are you taking?
Four thirteen?
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Arkansas super talented team? A cuff is these special is
just a freshing point guard.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
There you go, sec champs, move on. Okay, b Yu Texas.
Who you got? Texas just winning in a thriller over Ens.
He stayed in the first four.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Yeah, and BYU not having Richard Richie Saunders, they kind
of fell apart late in Big Big twelve play a
j debanza, it was likely to be the number one,
number two overall. Pick a super talented player, he thought.
Texas they just kind of found away and kind of
will there to win. I like, BYU, I just I do?
I think I think the Cooks win this one.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
There we go. Let's feed this through the rest of
the round of sixty four so we can get to
the round of thirty two. Gonzaga Kennessa State Sex Miami,
Missouri se.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Oh, good game. Uh, I'm gonna take the Zoo take
me su.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
There you go. Hey, as as journalists, we respect that
a great journalism school. Okay, Purdue take it on. Queens
two fifteen.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Perdue.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
There we go. Yeah, that was pretty easy. Okay, down
to another one sixteen. We'll go to the Midwest Region,
Michigan battling a Howard squad that unfortunately beat you, NBC.
Or maybe we'd all be looking at the Retrievers and
wanting another sixteen against one.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
No question, but I Michigan losing their backup point guard
hurts in terms of winn national championship, but doesn't earn
this game. Michigan Big.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
There we go, Georgia Saint Louis. I think not that
it would be an upset. I think a lot of
people are leaning toward the Bilicans here.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
I like the Bilicans. I know they didn't play well
late play well late in eight ten play, but Church
now standing coach, Uh, it's not gonna be Ricky Avila's
last game. I'll take the Bilicans.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Texas Tech. Take it on Akron, just to make you mad,
just to do it.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Yes, Ackland's really good obviously in Texas Tech with out
there without without topping the rest of the season, I
still take Texas Tech.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Wow. Okay, there you go Alabama Hofstra. Of course, a
lot coming out about one of the top players for
the Crimson Tide getting busted on a felony drug charge.
Do you feel like.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Weed is a lot of weed that's a lot of weed.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
That's a lot of weed. But is it an enough
to be prideful? I don't know. I'm just trying to
create something there. Do you think you of Alabama or Hofstra.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
No, I mean this is a difference. Alabama has a
has a backup point, backup scoring guard that's as good
as anybody on Hoffser's roster. The Crimson title be just fine.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Okay, let's run through these last four gets. The round
of thirty two. Tennessee against whoever wins that first four
matchup tonight, Miami of Ohio SMU.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
I think my Ohio beats SMU. One of SMU's best
players not playing tonight, but I think that Tennessee smacks
my Ohio.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
There you go, Virginia against the Horizon League champs, Right State.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Massive respect for Clinton, what he's done at at Wright State.
Will be caring for him. But the Wahoo's it's a
good team this year. Take Virginia.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
There you go. We got popen company at Kentucky battling
Santa Clara.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Well, Sata Claiir is good. I do think that Kentucky's
they just there's a depth of talent there that that's
too much I'll take. I'll take Big Blue Nation.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
There you go Iowa State, who has a couple Wisconsin
Natives and Jamar and Bateman and Xavion Mitchell. You got
them up against Tennessee State.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
I'm gonna go Ahowa State. Handle it.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Yeah, there we go. Okay, let's go round to thirty two.
Let's be uh. We got about ten minutes left, so
let's let's push through these Duke Ohio State, who you got, Duke.
There we go Saint John's Kansas. You can give some
analysis on that. I think this is going to be
an incredible game. If this is the fourth I do I.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Mean this, This game will be unbelievable defensively, unbelievable defensively.
I do think that this is a game neither team,
you know, the Darling Kid has become kind of the
point guard for Saint John's. Neither team is great in
terms of point true point guard play. I really think
it comes down to does Darren Peterson play the whole game?
He plays the whole game, Kansas wins he doesn't, they don't.
(18:55):
I'm guessing that tournament time he starts to play. I'll
take kau to Saint John's.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
South Florida Michigan State eleven against three. Do you have
an eleven go into the sweet sixteen?
Speaker 2 (19:06):
I do not. This is where Michigan State Spartan goes
to sweet sixteen.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
There we go u C l A, Yukon. Gosh, is
this a good one too?
Speaker 2 (19:16):
What a game? I like Yukon? I like I like
the hustles. You know, UCLA has had games where they
just have have no show. It's no showed at times.
This year we know Yukon and what they're able to
do in the NCA turn outside of biggies play take Husks.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
There we go Florida, Iowa. Do you have Florida continuing
on that trend of going back to back? Yes?
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Yes, yes Florida. You know their front line. Their front
line is nasty, right and if you look at Ben
McCollum teams, yes, Bennetts search is a huge part of
their wins. But they defend their rebound and nobody rebounds
better than than Florida. Those Gators are so big a
cross front line.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
But who will who will play them? Vandy and Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Bandy bandy Sebaskan There.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
You go vs. You Illinois? Tell me what eleven Seeds
going to sweet sixteen.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
I mean, I can tell you, but it's not. You
know again, I think injuries tell a big story, right,
Like all of my upsets, all of my up the
first round have injury as a major, as a gigantic
reason why. And Illinois does not, knock Wood have that issue.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Illinois BASVC Saint Mary's against Houston. What do you see?
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Wooh? What a game? The Coops are not as good
as they've been in the past, right, and Saint Mary's
is better than many other many other other sents. But
but I do think that they're bumping into their ceiling.
A Kingston Flannings is He's only a freshman, but gosh
is he good. I like the Coops to go to
sweet sixteen.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
There we go. We got mostly chalk outside into the
Sweet sixteen. Outside of ye the what is it the
five Vanderbilt. So let's see if we continue that on
the right side of the bracket, we got Arizona Villanova.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
What do we got Arizona Villanova, Arizona? Think?
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Okay, Wisconsin Arkansas, As Greg guard continue, I like Arkansas.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
I do think that I do think obviously wisconsinan score
and that game will be really exciting. I do think that.
Uh yeah, I think Arkansas I'm gonna take close.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Thought you were gonna double take right now?
Speaker 2 (21:34):
No, I mean again, I think I think of it
like there's acuff against Nick boyd Less there are two,
like you got a veteran guard. But I just I'm
gonna I'm gonna go with Arkansas.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
There we go, b Yu Gonzaga. We've about five minutes left.
Let's go quick on these by U Gonzagas Okay, Missouri, Purdue,
Purdue Big Ten champs, move on, Michigan, Saint Louis.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Michigan, Michigan Tech.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
I love, I love YEP, Texas Techbama.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Wow, no GT topping and no Aidon Holloway. I'll go
with Alabama.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
There we go, Tennessee, Virginia. Who you got.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
I'm gonna go with Tennessee and Rick Barnstein. There we
go Nata meant if people haven't seen him, talented freshman
top ten pick starting to come into his own. I'll
go to Tennessee. The volunteers.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Kentucky ticket on Iowa State. Could this be a good
one or what?
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I like? Iowa State in this one. I just think
they're tougher they're more connected that better at the point
guard spot. I like Iowa State and t J. Alsiburger's team.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
Let's lock down our elite. A Duke taking on Kansas.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Hmm, I'm gonna take I'm gonna take Duke, and I
love the duke.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Yeah, yeah, I love it. Okay, Michigan State ukon.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
You con Michigan State's really good, but the way to
beat them is to spread them out, and you kind
does a great job of that.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Florida take it on Vandy Florida.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Florida goose little sec battle and he's been good. Florida's better.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
I like it. Okay, how about some Big twelve against
Big ten Houston Illinois.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
I'll take Houston. Houston, by the way, this year elite
offensive team known for their defense, still very good defensively,
elite offense. I do think that, you know, Illinois, when
they get to Sweet sixteen playing that five out, they
don't they they play more in ISOs than we do.
That we play more with cuts, and I think that
I just don't think there's the number of mismatches at
that level. I'm gonna I think the line.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
I go down Arizona Arkansas on the right side, Arizona.
Arizona moves on. That's all three number one seeds moving
on so far. Gonzaga Perdue. Yeah, I like.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Purdue over Eh, you know what I like. I'm thinking
Zag over Purdue.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
There gonna go for Due was the seventh seed the
Big Ten Tournament, went all the way to win it,
but their run ends. According to Doug Gottlieb in the
Elite eight. Okay, Michigan against Alabama. You said you like Michigan.
Do you love them?
Speaker 2 (24:04):
I do? Obviously Alabama's gonna have a puncher's chance, and
the thought is maybe ain't Holloways back for the sweet sixteen.
Doesn't matter to me. I'll take I'll take that big Blue.
I mean, I'll take Michigan.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Yeah, Tennessee, Iowa State.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
I like Iowa State.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
There we go. Tj Otselberger and company. Move on. Let's
set our final four is Duke Yukon.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
I like that, right? How good would that be? Huh? Yeah,
I'm gonna take Duke to beat Yuka.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
There we go. National championship rematch from a year ago,
Florida Houston. That's a treat as well. There we go,
so they stay alive. Arizona Gonzaga. A lot of people
have Arizona winning the whole thing. Do you have them
moving on or do you think that Gonzaga can squeak.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
And when the whole thing as well? So yes, I
like Arizona.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
There we go, little teaser right there? Do you have
all four numbers one seeds as we saw last year
for the first time since two thousand and eight, Michigan
against Iowa State.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
I do have Michigan beating Iowa State.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
There we go? Why not? Why not stick with the trend?
Everyone gave everyone so much flak for taking all four
number one seeds last year and then it had a
note working out, So why not stick.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
With the best teams? Are the best teams for the reason.
I also think that they have more money than other people.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
That was gonna say that.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
That's just the part of it.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
So in our national championship, Duke Florida.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Hard one, right. I like Duke Duke this year. I
don't think they're as good as maybe they were last year.
But I think Florida's not as good at the point
as they were last year. So I'm gonna take Duke
to win the game.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Who do they meet Arizona or Michigan Arizona. Yeah, and
you kind of already teased who you were going to
take before you give me who between Arizona and Duke,
even though I know who you're gonna pick. What is
your tiebreaker total? It's one of my favorite parts about
the bracket of the final game. Yeah, how many total
points scored in the championship.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
So it's it's Arizona taken on Duke. Right, high, high
scoring game. Let's go with eighty eight to eighty two total. Right,
So you got that's one ninety.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Then eighty two should be one seventy seventy.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Sorry, Oklahoma State, not the ground. I wasn't a math
major marketing made at all. I said one seventy, right,
we edited that one seventy.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
That's what you won, seventy right. Yeah, forget obviously what
we're talking about, and I assume that you have Arizona
winning the whole thing.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
I do. I did go you know, Tommy Lloyd, Tommy Lloyd,
I mean, man, his Arizona's come up short so many times,
different coaches, right, last time they won it. My best
friend in basketball, Miles Diamond, was also in Indianapolis nineteen
ninety seven, so we are God, are we that old now?
Thirty nine years ago? But the Cats will win again,
(27:00):
Cats when again, this time at a different the dome,
right next to the dome which is no longer there
where they've won last time.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
And that's I think that would be the first time
since that year that a team, not obviously they're no
longer in the past, West West Mississippi would win a
national championship. I like that you're supporting US West Coaster,
so I appreciate that, even though I'm still very jealous.
I'm glad you're turned away from the water. Thank you.
I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Doug. Well, I aim to do dis please. That's so
I will. I will get there. I'll get I'll get
the water in the background.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
There we go, We'll go soak in the sun. Thing
so much, Doug. This has been the Doug Gottlieb Show.
That's Doug's bracket, the Arizona Wildcats winning it all. We
will see you next time.
