(00:42):
your own research and discover the subject matter for yourself. Hi.
I'm Sandra Champlain. For over twenty five years, I've been
on a journey to prove the existence of life after death.
Each episode will discuss the reasons we now know that
(01:03):
our loved ones have survived physical death and so will
we Welcome to Shades of the Afterlife. Well. On today's episode,
I thought we could talk about our animal companions, those
four legged, feathered and thin friends and perhaps some scaly
ones who walk beside us in this life, and as
(01:24):
we're going to see today, continue to walk beside us
in the next. They say that dog spelled backwards is God.
And if you've ever looked into the eyes of a
pet and felt that pure, unconditional love, you know exactly why.
This past week I have been binge watching videos on
Facebook of a man who goes by the name Plumes.
(01:47):
If you haven't seen him, you gotta look him up.
He sits out in nature, often at a zoo or
an animal sanctuary, with his guitar and he sings. He's
not perming for a big audience, He's just being And
the most incredible thing happens while deer walk up to him.
Cows in a field will stop grazing and gather around
(02:11):
him like they're out of private concert. Even alligators came
out of the water to sit nearby him and listen.
The videos are awesome. Squirrels, birds, all kinds of animals.
They just gravitate toward him and want to be near
that music and that energy. The videos are amazing to watch.
(02:31):
He strums his guitar and he gently sings, proving something
profound that we are all sentient beings sharing some kind
of a soul connection that doesn't need human words. Animals
are extremely sensitive to vocal tone, body language, and nervous
system energy. So when this guy meets them in that
(02:52):
meditative state, they seem to mirror it. They just want
to enjoy this love or this feeling. Now why am
I talking about this? Well, because if wild animals can
feel our vibration and respond to our souls while we're
in physical bodies, imagine how much deeper that connection is
with the pets who have shared our homes, our beds,
(03:14):
and our deepest secrets. Sometimes we often think of our
departed pets as being gone, or maybe we hope they're
waiting for us at some far off rainbow bridge. But
what if they are much much closer than that. What
if they are invisible roommates. We'll continue to live in
the afterlife, but they've never moved out of our home.
(03:36):
When I spoke with animal communicator Charles Peden, he put
it in a way just clicked for me. He said,
we have to stop thinking about the other side as
a place far away or beyond the clouds. It isn't
removed from us. The only thing that is removed is
our perception. Our pets and our loved ones are just
(03:56):
as much here as the wireless Internet signals, or GPS signals,
or television and radio waves that currently surround us. We
can't see them, but we know they're real because when
we turn on our computer or our radio or GPS,
the data is there. Charles says that our minds are
(04:17):
like smartphones. We don't need to understand the binary code
of the universe to receive these messages from our pets
or loved ones. Have you ever been really busy, maybe
you're eating lunch or doing work on the computer, and
suddenly a vivid memory of a loved one or a
pet just kind of photo bombs your mind. It isn't
(04:38):
a memory you went looking for. It just dropped in.
Charles calls that a direct download. It's your people and
pets in the afterlife dropping in to say hello, reminding
you that they're still part of our lives and rest assured.
This is not wishful thinking. The evidence for the continued
existence of our animals is overwhelming, especially when we look
(05:01):
at the bedside of the dying. Hospice workers who spend
their lives see this all the time. I want to
start with a classic true story of a man named Frank.
Frank was an elderly man, a quiet, stoic gentleman who
had grown very withdrawn in his final weeks. He spent
most of his days semi conscious, barely speaking to his family.
(05:24):
His daughter was heartbroken, feeling like her dad had already
left them. But one afternoon, while a volunteer was sitting
with him, Frank's eyes suddenly opened. He wasn't looking at
the ceiling or the nurses. He was looking at the
foot of his bed with a look of pure joy.
A brilliant smile formed on his face, and his frail
(05:48):
hand lifted from the blanket and reached out into what
looked like empty space. He let out a soft, breathy
laugh and whispered one word, Sadie. His eyes tracked something
invisible moving from the foot of the bed up to
his side. He began to make a soft, rhythmic stroking
(06:09):
motion in the air, his fingers curling as if he
were running them through a thick coat of fur. There's
my girl, he said, My good girl. You came to
take me for a walk, didn't you. Okay, girl, let's go.
When his daughter returned. The volunteer told her what happened.
(06:30):
The daughter burst into tears. Sadie was Frank's cherished black
labrador who had passed away ten years earlier. Every single
day for fourteen years, Sadie had waited for Frank at
the door for their evening walk. Frank passed away peacefully
the next morning, not alone, but setting off for one
(06:52):
last walk with his best friend. This is what doctor
Christopher Kerr calls an end of life dream or vision.
And it isn't just humans who show up. Our pets
are often the advanced team. They are the ones who
know the way home better than anyone. Here's another story
of a man in hospice who is nearing his final hours.
(07:15):
He was lucid but very insistent. He kept telling his
best friend exactly where to sit in the room. His
friend would go to sit in a comfortable armchair and
the man would yell, no, don't sit there, you'll squish
one of my dogs. He had owned four dogs throughout
his life, all of whom who had passed. He looked
(07:35):
out into the room and named every single one of them.
He told his friend, they're here, I've got their leashes ready.
I'm going to take them for a walk. This man
went from being terrified of death to being completely at
peace because his boys had shown up to escort him.
And it isn't just the elderly, even children who have
(07:58):
a much more natural connection to the spirit world. See
this one three and a half year old boy was nonverbal.
He had never spoken a word in his life, and
just before he passed, he looked into the corner of
the room. His face lit up with a smile, and
he said his very first word Hello. His mother knew
(08:20):
in that moment that he wasn't looking at an empty corner.
He was greeting the welcoming committee that had come to
bring him home. When we lose a pet, the guilt
can be so heavy, can't it. We wonder if we
made the right choice, if we did enough, or if
they will forgive us our spirit. Friend Eric told me
(08:40):
that animals in the spirit world don't hold onto the
pain of their physical bodies, same as with humans, the
struggles they had with walking or digesting, or the illness
that took them, it's all gone in the spirit world,
he says. The animals run and act like children who
have been given candy. They're so excited, and this really
(09:03):
touched me. Eric says, they don't leave us. They aren't
above us or below us. They are amongst us, just
at a frequency too fast for our eyes to see.
He told a grieving daughter. Your animal is not next
to me, it's next to you right now. If you've
had a pet companion, have you ever just been on
(09:24):
the edge of sleep and felt that thump on the
mattress like the pet is jumping up on the bed,
or heard the snuffle or a breath near your ear
when you know the room is physically empty, or perhaps
you got a whiff of their scent. We have a
listener named Jen who shared a story about her cat,
whom she lovingly called Brett. Now, Bratt was not a
(09:47):
cuddly cat. He was independent, in standoffish. After he passed,
Jen was lying on her bed and felt a very
distinct motion, that rhythmic something that happens when a cat
is scratching its ear with its back foot. She looked,
and of course there was no cat, But then it
happened again. This is sole language in action. Our pets
(10:09):
don't change who they are just because they've changed their vehicle.
The grumpy cat is still a bit grumpy, the excited
dog still wags its tail. Let's think about these plumes
videos again. Think about the piece that must be in
that man's heart to allow wild animals to feel safe
enough to approach him, and they come right up to him.
(10:32):
By the way, that same piece is the bridge to
our departed pets. When we get too busy, when our
brains are going a mile a minute, with all the
things we have to do and all the worries we have,
we move out of the frequency where they can reach us.
They're still here, but we become numb to the conversation. However,
(10:53):
they are trying. They're using your imagination as a canvas.
They're dropping those calling cars memories into your head. They
are sitting in the chairs you think are empty. They
are waiting for you to just slow down enough to
hear them. I've had my own experiences with this. My
cat Millie was my best girl companion for twelve years.
(11:17):
She was there for every page of my book. As
I typed out we Don't Die. She had her head
on my laptop as I typed the words. When we
had to put her to sleep at that point was
the hardest day of my life. But the very next
day I was forced to read the final proof of
my book and the chapter on grief. It was like
(11:38):
Millie was right there, using my own words to comfort me.
She passed at exactly the right time to show me
the love we share with them is eternal and how
important my words are. So if you're sitting here today
with a heavy heart, missing a friend, a loved one,
or even a furried friend, take a deep breath. Know
that you're not alone in that room. You're supported by
(12:01):
a love that defies all logic. Before we head to
the break, here's a bit of trivia that shows just
how deep this bond goes. Did you know that some
researchers believe that when a pet wags its tail or
purrs in our memories, it's actually a rhythmic vibration meant
to synchronize with our own heartbeat from across the veil.
(12:25):
And here's a beautiful quote by an unknown author who said,
if love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
But the truth that we are uncovering today is actually
better because love is eternal. They never actually had to leave.
Coming up, we'll hear about a man who saw a
(12:45):
dog in the afterlife he didn't recognize until a seventy
year old family photo provided the proof he needed. And
we'll look at a verifiable near death experience where a
father saw his daughter with a family dog he had
no idea passed away. We'll be right back. You're listening
to Shades of the Afterlife on the iHeartRadio and Coast
(13:08):

(13:31):
of the Afterlife. I'm Sandra Champlain. If you're having a
tough day, experience and grief, or just need a hug,
please know I'm sending you one right now. I do
everything I can to prove that our loved ones are
not gone, They're still part of our life, and that
your life matters. So let's continue with stories of our
animal companions who are still with us from the afterlife.
(13:55):
Here's a story about Wayne, who had a life threatening
medical crisis. He described waking up in a warm, bright place,
and there was his grandmother, who had died years before.
She was wearing a purple dress, a dress he actually
remembered seeing her in at her funeral when he was
just a kid. But standing right beside her was a
(14:18):
Boston terrier. When Wayne recovered and got home, he couldn't
stop thinking about that dog he saw in his vision.
He started digging through a box of old family photos
that hadn't been opened in decades, and there, in a
crumbly black and white photo from nineteen fifty six, he
found it. It was his grandmother holding that exact same dog.
(14:43):
He found out the dog's name was Trixie. She had
been the household pet when he was born, but she
had passed away in nineteen fifty eight when Wayne was
only two years old. He had zero conscious memory of Trixie,
yet there she was waiting with his grandmother to greet him.
And then one of my favorite stories is Omar Perez.
(15:05):
Omar was a skeptic about the afterlife, but he had
lost his young daughter, Chloe, and it destroyed his faith
in anything beyond this life. But then Omar had his
own health crisis and ended up in a coma on
life support. When he was away, he saw Chloe. She
was healthy and happy and very much alive, and they
(15:27):
had a beautiful conversation. But right as they were finishing,
Omar saw their family dog, Layla, who came running into
the scene to join Chloe. Then Chloe and Layla walked
away together, and Omar felt this deep sense that he
needed to take care of the dog when he got
back home. When Omar finally woke up on Christmas Day,
(15:50):
was healing and able to communicate, he wrote down every
detail of the experience. He wrote that he had seen
Chloe and Layla together. That's when his wife sat down
with tears and gave him the validation that forever changed him.
She told him that while he was ill and in
that coma, Laylah, the dog, had suddenly become very ill
(16:14):
and had to be put to sleep on Christmas Eve,
just one day before Omar woke up. There was no
way Omar could have known that Layla had passed. Seeing
his dog with his daughter in his near death experience
was the undeniable, verifiable proof that transformed this man into
a man who believes, even in clinical settings, our pets
(16:38):
are making their presence known. Doctor Alan Botkin, a psychologist
who developed induced after death communication therapy, shared a story
about a patient who was grieving his uncle. During a session,
the patient had a vision of his uncle standing there
and holding the family dog they had grown up with.
(16:59):
The patient went home that night and felt the unmistakable
weight of that dog jumping onto his bed, the exact
physical sensation he remembered from years ago. He was so
moved that they did another IADC session the next morning,
where he actually got to play with the dog and
hug him. In that altered state, he said, the joy
(17:22):
and the scent and the touch of the dog was
completely real. And then there's Marilyn. Marilyn was in the
middle of an eighty minute massage for her achy joints.
She was in that deep, relaxed state of consciousness when
she saw a white dog sitting on a chair in
the room, looking right at the massage therapist. Marilyn just
(17:46):
sat there, she said, for about thirty seconds, wondering if
it was her own dog would pass twelve years prior.
But then she got the thought that it wasn't hers.
She gathered her nerves and asked the therapist, by chance,
do you have a white dog in spirit? The therapist
stopped and said yes, his name was Cody. She showed
(18:08):
Marilyn a photo on her phone, and it was the
exact dog Marylyn had just seen in her mind's eye.
Charles Peden shared a story about a dog at a shelter.
A gentleman named Peter Wilson from the Humane Society asked
Charles to talk to a dog. Charles, being a psychic,
(18:28):
reached out to the dog and the dog told him
I'm from American Samoa, the South Pacific Islands. Charles thought,
there's no way this dog in California is from Samoa,
but he mentioned it to Peter anyway. Peter was stunned.
He confirmed they had just had the dog surrendered by
(18:49):
a couple who had moved there directly from American Samoa.
The dog even told Charles about the specific homemade food
ude Peter had made for him, a mix of yams
and eggs, which was one hundred percent correct. I read
a fascinating account from Sylvia Barbonel, who wrote a book
(19:13):
back in nineteen forty called When Your Animal Dies. She
writes about a seance where a dog materialized, meaning a
dog actually took on solid form, and he was so
excited to be there that it ran to a bowl
of water that was in the room. The sitters actually
(19:34):
heard the dog lapping up the water loudly and eagerly.
When the lights came up, the bowl was dry, not
a single drop was spilled on the floor. Charles Paton
also told me about a missing turtle. The turtle communicated
through him that he was in a pile of dirty
laundry in the garage. The owner insisted there was no
(19:55):
laundry in the garage, but when she checked, she found
the turtle buried in a pile of clothes her son
had dropped off days before. That turtle saved its own
life by communicating telepathically. Charles also tells the story of
a missing cat who described in detail the overwhelming smell
(20:16):
of freshly sprayed paint. There was only one house in
the neighborhood that had been painted that week. They immediately
found the cat in the yard directly near that house.
Then there is the terrier confirmation. Charles was on the
phone with a woman who had a ranch. He told her,
your terrier, Frankie says he hurts on the right side
(20:39):
of his chest because the other dogs punked him this morning.
The woman didn't even know Frankie was hurt. While still
on the phone, she rolled the dog over and found
a fresh puncture wound on the right side of his chest,
exactly where Charles said it would be, and it isn't
just domestic pets who have this spiritual ability of communicating.
(21:03):
Charles said he was once at a dinner party with
wildlife rehab volunteers. He suddenly got a strange taste in
his mouth, a taste of a microwaved, thawed frozen mouse,
which he described, of course, as absolutely disgusting. The gentleman
at the table dropped his fork and said, you're connecting
(21:25):
with my owl. That's my job. I feed him the
thawed frozen mice, and we were wondering how he broke
his right wing. Charles was able to confirm the wing
injury and the specific unpleasant menu through the owl's own perspective.
We also have to consider the seafaring cats. These ships.
Cats would go ashore and foreign ports all over the world.
(21:49):
They might be gone for a week while the ship
was docked, but they always had a remarkable sixth CeNSE.
Just before the ship was set to sail, the cats
would suddenly reappear and brought up the dock to get
back on board. They knew when the energy of the
ship was changing, even from miles away. There's a wonderful
story from Richard about his mother and hospice. She told
(22:12):
him she had been everywhere and seen everyone. She specifically
mentioned seeing Edgar. Edgar was her little dog who had
passed away just a few days before she entered hospice.
The reunion gave her such peace that her fear of
death completely disappeared. A shout out to listener Judy, who
(22:33):
shared that her cat Ginger, used to pull on the
lock of her crate at night, making a very loud,
distinct clanking noise, and after Ginger passed, the crate was
folded up and put away, Yet every single night for weeks,
Judy would still hear the loud, metallic clanking of that
lock right beside her bed, exactly where the crate used
(22:57):
to be. Then there is Bree. She shared a stunning
account of being present when the family dog was hit
by a car. At that exact moment, she saw the
spirit of her grandmother, who had been dead for years,
physically reached down and pick up the soul of the dog.
She saw her grandmother holding him, comforting him, and welcoming
(23:21):
him home so he wouldn't have a single second of fear.
And think of my friend Nick, who ran the Banyan
Retreat Center where I met physical medium Scott Milligan and
other friends. He had a large German shepherd who weighed
about fifty pounds. The dog passed away the very day.
A guest medium arrived in the seance. The following evening,
(23:45):
that dog materialized in the middle of a darkened room.
Nick and his partner heard him walk across the floor
with his unmistakable heavy gait. They saw his form, heard
his bark. They could touch him just before he walked
back into the cabinet. So these stories, and so many more,
(24:05):
provide amountain of proof that love is a frequency that
never stops broadcasting. Our pets are not memories, their active,
conscious participants in our lives from across the veil. They
see what we are doing, they know when we are hurting,
and they are the very first to meet us when
(24:25):
we finally step out of our own physical energy vehicles.
Before we go to the break, I want to leave
you with one more positive thought, positive spelled paws. Have
you ever noticed your living pets staring at a corner
of a room or wagging their tail at what seems
like thin air. Well, they aren't crazy. They are simply
(24:47):
tuned into a frequency that our adult, busy minds often
filter out they are seeing our invisible roommates that we've
been talking about. Coming up, We're going to look at
what life is actually like for animals on the other side.
We'll visit a castle of pets and find out why
a fledgling bird returned from spirit to say thank you.
(25:10):
And I'll share a personal story about a dream visit
from my own cats. We'll be right back. You're listening
to Shades of the Afterlife on the iHeartRadio and cost
to Coast am Heroinormal Podcast Network. Welcome back to Shades
(25:48):
of the Afterlife. I'm Sandra Champlain, and we're looking at
evidence that our pets survive physical deaths as do we.
Now I want to take you on Age Ernie, into
the world they inhabit right now. What is it like
for them? Where do they go? Our spirit friend Eric,
through the mediumship of Scott Milligan, gives a wonderful description.
(26:12):
He calls it a world of eternal son. He says
that when animals cross over, they don't just exist, they thrive.
Older animals become young again, chasing butterflies or doing those
things that little ones do. Even if they were in pain,
all memories of pain are gone. Young and healthy again.
(26:32):
In the spirit world, whether it's a human or an
animal companion, we are all restored to our absolute prime, healthy, vibrant,
and full of play. I remember my friend Sue, a
member of our community who recently passed away after a
long illness. Eric shared that he was there to meet her,
and he witnessed Sue being met first not by her
(26:56):
parents or friends, but by her cats, and of course
her husband could confirm the many cats she had. As
she arrived in heaven, they swarmed her with love and affection.
Only then, after first being greeted by her pets, did
her mother and father step in to embrace her. I
(27:17):
love that our pets are the advanced team. They're the
ones who make the afterlife feel like home the moment
we arrive, and the landscape they live in is spectacular.
We heard from a teenager who, during a medical crisis,
saw into that world. He described it as being so pretty,
filled with more flowers and butterflies than he had ever
(27:40):
seen on earth. Another experiencer, Ginny, saw what she called
a castle of pets. It was a safe, warm place,
filled with a light, populated by every family pet she
had ever lost. They weren't shadows. They were healthy, playful,
and waiting. There is a story shared by researcher John
(28:03):
Burke about a man what had a near death experience
and was met by his childhood fox terrier. The man
described the dog running across a field of flowers toward him.
When they met, the dog gave him what he called
a lollipop lick, a greeting so specific, so familiar, that
(28:23):
the man knew without a shadow of a doubt that
it was his good boy. He felt the wetness of
the tongue and the excitement of the dog's body, and
in that moment he heard a voice say, I give
you the desires of your heart. Our pets are the
desires of many of our hearts, and the spirit world
honors that. But it isn't just about dogs and cats.
(28:45):
Here's the story of Gustav, who had a terrifying experience
where he was shot during a robbery. He felt himself
flowed away from his body, and curiously, his first instinct
was to visit the farmhouse where he grew up. He
went to the grave of his childhood companion, a white
Persian cat named Elmer, who had died when Gustav was
(29:07):
only ten. Suddenly the sky went black and a bright
white light appeared, pulling him upward. He found himself on
a beautiful snowy landscape with a single pine tree, and
there was Elmer. Gustave described seeing Elmer's beautiful green eyes
and long, luscious white fur. He picked up the cat,
(29:29):
and as Elmer purred, Gustav felt a warmth that chased
away the cold of death. He could even smell Elmer,
that exact familiar scent he had missed for decades. Before
Gustav left his near death experience and was sent back
to his body, a powerful voice told him Elmer will
be waiting for you when it is your time to
(29:51):
come back. Even lowly creatures, as Sylvia Barbonel called them
back in nineteen forty, have a place in this landscape.
In the same as she attended. It wasn't just dogs materializing,
she writes about the medium Frantic Kloski, whose sessions were
investigated by world class scientists. At these meetings, they didn't
(30:12):
just see people. They saw squirrels running around the room.
They saw a large bird like a hawk or a buzzard,
flying through the air, its wings beating against the walls.
On one occasion, a man from spirit even brought a
maimless lion that licked the sitters with a moist, prickly tongue.
On a past episode, I talked to medium Scott Milligan,
(30:34):
who had a baby elephant appear in the room, and
even a parrot flying across the room and a cat
that gently walked across the laps of the sitters. The
point of these experiences is to show all of us
that living creatures survive and retain their unique characteristics. The
afterlife is a combination of everyone we have loved, human
(30:58):
and animal. Sometimes that even take us back to the
places we were happiest together. I remember the story of
Lucy who had an out of body experience. She wasn't
just in a heavenly realm, she was transported back to
the old farm in Pennsylvania where she grew up. She
saw the kitchen exactly as it was, and the view
(31:21):
across the fields was fresh and green, and there in
the fields were the cows she had loved as a
young girl. So the afterlife is an a sterile white room.
It's a vivid recreation of the love and the landscapes
that shaped our souls and memories. I've had my own
glimpse of this. I tried the dreamgate technique I taught
(31:43):
you many episodes ago, where I pictured a fence and
a gate in my backyard and asked my dad to
meet me there. I fell asleep and had a very
vivid dream. I walked into a house in the woods,
and there was my dad at the kitchen table, wearing
his favorite flannel shirt. We hugged, and he said, Sandra,
(32:06):
let me show you something. Dad led me down a
hallway and opened a door. Behind that door was my grandmother,
I called her Grammy, sitting on a couch, but the
sweetest things were in her lap. Cozied up against Grammy
were my three cats, Millie, Ozzie, and Harry. I could
feel there, for I could feel Milly nuzzling against my chin.
(32:29):
I woke up that morning with tears because I realized
they weren't lost. They were being cared for by my
dad and grandmother. Kathleen Prisad, the founder of Animal Reiki Source,
shared a similar story about her dog Dakota. After he passed.
She was leading a meditation and suddenly saw a favorite
(32:50):
beach in Carmel California. She saw her dog, Dakota, running
toward her, But he wasn't the old gray dog he
was when he died. He was young again, maybe two
years old, with bright blue eyes and his beautiful black
and white coat. He ran right into her heart, and
she felt a surge of joy so powerful and nearly
(33:13):
knocked her over. She said, she realized that Dakota wasn't gone,
he was just expanded. This expansion is what allows them
to do things that seemed miraculous to us. I read
about a Siamese cat named Peter. His family moved one
hundred and eighty miles away to a new home. Peter
(33:34):
disappeared ten days later. Guess where they found him. He
was found sitting on the doorstep of their old house. Yes,
one hundred and eighty miles away. Another cat was sent
sixty miles away in a covered van. She had kittens
a few days later, and then she and the kittens vanished.
(33:54):
Three weeks later, the mother cat arrived back at her
original home miles away with all three kittens. They seem
to have a sixth sense that we can't understand. It's
the same sense that allowed those cats of the nineteen
hundreds to go ashore in foreign ports and always know
(34:15):
exactly when to trot back to the dock just minutes
before their ship sailed. This intuition doesn't stop at death,
it becomes even more acute. Eric explains that when we
arrive in spirit, we are reunited with our loved ones
and pets, and that all physical ailments are completely washed away.
(34:36):
You choose your best weight, your best health, your best look,
and our pets do the same. I've often wondered if
wild animals that have this same survival. Sylvia Barbonell wrote
in her book that every living creature is part of
the same natural law. While domestic pets develop an individual
(34:57):
personality through their bonds with us, even the lesser creatures return.
She tells the story of a medium who tried to
save a tiny fledgling bird that had fallen from its nest.
Despite her prayers, the bird died. Later that evening in
a seance, the sitters were stunned to hear the unmistakable
(35:18):
chirping of a young bird and the fluttering of wings.
The spirit guide explained that the love showered on that
tiny bird had called forth an individual consciousness. The fledgling
returned just to say thank you to the woman who
tried to save it. If a tiny bird can feel
your love and return to acknowledge it, imagine how much
(35:39):
more your dog or cat is doing for you right now.
They don't want us to be trapped in grief. They
want us to know that the transition was like taking
off a suit that no longer fits. As one father
told his daughter, they are free, they are fast, they
are a whole, and they are waiting for the day
(36:00):
when they can spot you from across those green fields
and run to you for that joyous reunion where you
will never be parted again. Here's another piece of wisdom
from animal communicator Charles Peden. He said that being here
on earth is like a video game with very high stakes,
but the save mode is the spirit world. Every single
(36:23):
thing that you have ever done, every bit of love
you have ever given an animal or a person, is recorded.
It's a record of your soul's education. And when you return,
it's not to a sterile room, but a family of spirits,
human and animal, who have been watching your progress the
whole time. So if you're sitting there today, perhaps looking
(36:46):
at an empty leash or an empty chair, or bed
of a person. Shift your focus. Don't look at their absence,
look at the expansion. Think of Dakota running on the
beach in Carmel, of your own pets, perhaps sitting on
your grandmother's lap in a house in the woods, or
just waiting to show you around. Our loved ones keep
(37:08):
busy in the afterlife, but they can easily multitask and
be right here with us. Here's a quote. The ones
who love us never really leave us. They just take
on a form that requires our hearts to see rather
than our eyes. So take a moment to picture your
animal companions that way, healthy, alive, enjoying life. Not as
(37:32):
they were in those final difficult moments, but how they
are now, young, strong, chasing butterflies. Coming up. More stories,
and I'll share with you six signs that you can
look for today to know your pet is with you.
Plus a powerful technique to help you find some stability
when the waves of grief feel like they are pulling
(37:53):
you under. We'll be right back. You're listening to Shades
of the Afterlife on the iHeartRadio and to Costa m
Paranormal podcast Network. Welcome back to Shades of the Afterlife.
(38:26):
I'm Sandra Champlain, and I know as great as stories
are from the past, we want to hear from our
pets now. We want to feel their presence. Of course,
we want to feel the presence of our human loved
ones as well. So how can we feel them right now?
I want to start this final segment with the words
of John Davis, who had a near death experience. John
(38:49):
reminds us that animals are not lesser beings, they are
pure extensions of the divine. He says that while humans
are busy trying to find God odd, animals are already
living in that state of grace. They don't have the
ego that we do that blocks us from the light.
This is why they can return to us so easily.
(39:10):
You see, they don't have to learn how to be
a spirit. They were already halfway there when they were
sitting on your lap. Here's a story that tells us
how our pets stay in their favorite spots, almost like
they never left. A listener named Judy told me about
her cat Eddie, who lived to be thirteen. His favorite
(39:31):
thing in the world was to sleep on the bed
tucked between Judy and her husband's heads, purring like a
freight train. After Eddie passed, Judy began waking up the
middle of the night to the loud sound of her
cat purring and a noisy but soft meow. There were
no other cats in the house. Another listener shared with
(39:53):
me that he had an Australian shepherd named Sparky. Sparky
is what he called a velcro dog because as he
never left his owner's side for eight years until he
tragically passed away. A few weeks after Sparky was gone,
the man was working on his car in the garage,
completely in the zone. Suddenly he felt a familiar, cold,
(40:16):
wet sensation against the back of his hand, the unmistakable
wet nudge Sparky used to give him when he wanted
a treat. He said it was so physical that he
actually dropped his wrench When he looked down, expecting to
see a stray dog or a neighbor's dog, there was
nobody there. In that moment, he realized it was Sparky,
(40:38):
still full of his playful energy, proving his best friend
was still on the job and watching over him. Have
you ever felt a loved one or a pet after
they've passed, Maybe that little breathing in your ear, or
a tiny indentation in the corner of your bed, or
(40:58):
tail brush against your leg, or the feeling of an
animal jumping on your bed. Those aren't tricks of the mind.
Listener Elena reached out to me with a story about
her golden retriever, Murphy. Murphy had been gone for five years,
but Elena still kept his favorite weathered tennis ball on
(41:19):
a shelf in her hallway. One evening, she was feeling
particularly lonely and whispered Murphy, I wish I knew you
were okay. Then less than a minute later, that tennis
ball didn't just fall off the shelf. It bounced off
the shelf down the hallway, hitting the floor with that thump, thump,
(41:39):
thump she knew so well, and came to a stop
right at her feet. There were no drafts, no vibrations,
just a direct physical response from a dog who wanted
to play. Elena said she didn't feel scared. She felt
a rush of love and a deep sense of Murphy's
playful energy in the hallway. My friend Heather Tesh has
(42:01):
a wonderful YouTube channel about near death experiences, and there's
one story that involves a woman named Betty during a
near death experience. Betty didn't just see a tunnel of light.
She saw a tunnel filled with the spirits of animals.
She described seeing not just the dogs and cats she
(42:22):
had lost, but birds, horses, and even fish. They were
all part of a stream of life that was moving
toward a place of incredible beauty. Betty said the realization
that hit her was nothing, and I mean absolutely, nothing
that has ever felt love is ever discarded by the universe.
(42:43):
Heather also shares the story of Bill McDonald, a veteran
who had a profound out of body experience. He described
feeling his deceased cat jump onto the foot of his bed.
This happened years after the cat died. He didn't just
think it happened. He felt the mattress depress, he heard
the cat's unique chirp, and he felt the warmth of
(43:05):
the cat curling up against his feet. Bill said that
in that moment, he realized his cat wasn't a memory.
He was his guardian. And we cannot forget about these
deathbed visitors. We often hear about people seeing their mothers
or fathers or loved ones long departed as they pass,
but hospice nurses frequently report animals as the primary escorts.
(43:30):
There's a story of a woman named Margaret who was
caring for an elderly man who hadn't spoken in days.
Suddenly he reached his hand out and started laughing. He said,
look at them, they're all here. When the nurse asked
him who he was seeing, he didn't name people. He
named the three Golden Retrievers he had owned throughout his life.
(43:52):
He saw them jumping and playing at the foot of
his bed, and he told the nurse they were barking
at the door because it was time to go. This
man passed away minutes later with a look of pure excitement,
like a kid about to go to the park. Animal
psychic Danielle McKinnon gives us six very specific signs to
(44:13):
look for, and I wonder if any of these have
happened to you. Sign number one is the name. You'll
be going about your day as usual, and you see
your pet's name everywhere. It's on a license plate, it's
mentioned on a TV show and maybe even on a
cereal box. It's a deliberate ping from spirit to try
(44:33):
to get your attention. Sign number two is the smell
This is common. You'll be sitting at your desk and
suddenly you catch a whiff of your dog's wet fur
or the specific scent of your cat's favorite cat nip toy.
Sign number three is the sound you'll hear, the jingle
of a collar or a distant bark when the house
(44:54):
is empty. Sign number four is what Danielle calls the
push thought. This this is when a loving memory comes
to your mind out of nowhere. You aren't thinking about it,
you aren't reminiscing, and the thought just drops in. That
is your pet pushing their energy into your consciousness. Well,
it could be your pet or your person works the
(45:16):
same for people. Sign number five is the corner of
the eye. You see a quick flash of movement, a
tail disappearing around a doorway, or a shadow by the
food bowl. You turn your head and no one is there,
but your soul saw it. And Sign number six is
the dream a visit tonight. As you fall asleep, try this,
(45:37):
Call out your pet's name or your person's name, and say,
please visit me tonight. It may take a few nights,
especially if your grief is very heavy, but eventually you'll
have a dream that feels more real than real. When
love is connected, you know it's a dream visit. When
it's strange and a bit of nonsense or scary, that's
(45:59):
just our subcondent mind. But when they're real, you'll wake
up feeling like you were just hanging out together because
you were. Here's a story about a woman who was
hypnotized to quit smoking, and her therapist led her to
imagine a cooling stream where she could wash away her
urge to smoke. As she sat by that mental stream,
(46:20):
her deceased dog suddenly ran out of the trees and
jumped into her lap. She could feel his weight, his tongue,
and his fur. That experience didn't just help her quit smoking,
it healed her heart because she realized that he was
only a thought away. And Danielle mentions a bonus sign
our pets and spirit often act as matchmakers. If a
(46:43):
new animal suddenly crosses your path, or maybe a stray
shows up at your door like my Millie did, or
you feel a sudden, unexplainable urge to visit a pet
shelter that could be your departed pet arranging for your
next soul connection. And they don't want us to be lonely.
John Davis once said that the grief we feel for
(47:05):
an animal is sometimes deeper than the grief we feel
for humans, because the animal's love was never complicated. There
was no judgment and no baggage. It was just pure
presence and joy and love. And that pure presence is
exactly what they continue to give you from the other side.
I know for many listening right now, the grief is
(47:26):
still so sharp that it feels like you cannot breathe.
So I want to give you a grounding technique to
get into the present moment. It helps with grief, but
it also helps us to be alert and aware if
one of our companions from the other side happens to
give us a sign. This is called the five four
(47:46):
three two one technique. First, take a slow, deep breath. Now,
name five things you can see right now, A lamp,
a photo color of the rug. Now name four things
you can physically feel. Might be the chair beneath you,
your heart beat, and I want you to imagine now
(48:08):
the feel of your pet's fur under your hand, or
the touch of your loved one. Next, name three things
you can hear with your physical ears. It could be
the hum of your refrigerator could be my voice right
now talking to you, maybe your own breathing, and just
imagine now the voice of a loved one or the
(48:29):
sound of your spirit pet. And now name two things
you can smell. Might be the room you're in. You
might hold your fingers to your face and smell garlic
from cooking your pasta dinner. And now think of one
thing you can taste on your tongue right now. So
what you did was just throw out an anchor. You
(48:49):
brought your soul back into the safety of the present, moment,
the now. And it's in this now where connection happens
to that love beyond the veil. As we close this
episode today, I want to leave you with a story
from Charles Peden that puts everything in perspective. He was
talking to a parent in India that had gone missing.
(49:13):
The parrot told him, I'm having a great time. I'm
not in a hurry to come back. But then the
parrot added, tell the mom, I love her, she's my person.
Our pets are individuals. They have opinions, they have favorite people,
and they have an incredible sense of humor. They're watching
your life and they're cheering you on from the front row.
(49:33):
As our friend Eric says, in your world people leave you,
and our world people join you. You've not lost anything,
You've only expanded your family into the invisible world. There's
no need to be alone. Go to a shelter this week,
even if you aren't ready to adopt. Just go give
some love to an abandoned animal. Remember dog spelled backwards
(49:55):
as indeed God. And it is that unconditional love which
is the only thing we truly get to take with
us when we depart. If this conversation has made a
difference for you, please share. Even a social media post
