California Governor Gavin Newsom says the Trump administration is deploying
another two thousand California National Guard troops to Los Angeles.
Mark Mayfield has details.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Newsom made the announcement on his X profile while saying
only three hundred of the first two thousand have been deployed.
The rest are sitting unused in federal buildings without orders.
Newsom went on to add the administration ramped up tensions
on Monday, ordering the US military to deploy about seven
hundred Marines to Los Angeles to protect federal personnel and
resources as pro immigration protests and the city continue.

By Mark Mayfield, New York lawmakers have voted to approve
a bill that would legalize assistant suicide across the state.
The controversial legislation, called the Medical Aid and Dying Act,
was designed to allow a doctor to prescribe life ending
drugs to people with six months or less to live.
The state Senate voted thirty five twenty seven in favor
of the measure on Monday. Its future with Governor Kathy
Hochel remains unclear. A new study reveals the number of

people seeking treatment for marijuana use disorder is dropping. Researchers
reported recently in the journal Substance Use and Misuse that
it was nineteen percent in the year two thousand and three,
but in twenty nineteen just thirteen percent were in treatment.
Senior researcher Brian Graves as cannabis use disorder treatment is
often overshadowed by treatments for other substance use disorders, despite
its growing prevalence and impact. Justin Baldoni's lawsuits against Blake

Lively are being tossed. A New York federal judge made
the decision to dismiss the suits on Monday. Baldoni has
sued Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds for four hundred
million dollars, along with The New York Times for two
hundred and fifty million. The suits are connected to a
story about alleged drama on the It Ends with Us
movie set. Lively's lawsuits against Baldoni are still intact, but
she recently dropped her claims of intentional and negligent infliction

of emotional distress. In the NHL, the Panthers have taken
their first lead in the Stanley Cup Final, blowing out
the Oilers six 's one in Game three. Florida now
leads that best of seven series two games to one.
Edmonton will be trying to even things up at two
games a piece when the Oilers visit the Panthers for

In an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal Monday.
Kennedy wrote a clean sweep is needed to re establish
public confidence in vaccine science. Kennedy was a vaccine skeptic
prior to becoming the Health and Human Services Secretary. He
since softened his stance, saying, if a parent desires their
child to be vaccinated, their decision should be based on

President Trump will be at North Carolina's Fort Bragg today
to help kick off the Army's two hundred and fiftieth
birthday celebration. Defense Secretary Pete Heigsith will join the President
at the base which houses about fifty seven thousand military personnel.
The White House says the two while honor the courageous
warriors that are ready to defend liberty at a moment's notice.
Celebration will include military demonstrations, musical performances, as well as

remarks from senior military leaders. Earlier this year, haig Seth
ordered the renaming of the base, which had been changed
to Fort Liberty two years ago. Thousands of National Institutes
of Health scientists are demanding a reversal to drastic changes
made at the agency. Lisa Taylor explains.

More than two thousand staffers issued a letter addressed to
their director titled the Bethesda Declaration and said we dissent
to administration policies that undermine the NIH mission, waste public resources,
and harm the health of Americans and people across the globe.
The agency's director responded to the letter by saying changes
have been made in effort to remove ideological influence from science,

and he added, as NIH priorities evolved, so must our
staffing to stay mission focused and responsibly manage taxpayer dollars only.
