Famed Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle are dead.
LAPD Deputy Chief Allen Hamilton told reporters the investigation into
their deaths is in the early stages, with very little
information available to be shared with the public. The cause
of death will be released by the La County Corner You.
Multiple reports indicate the couple was stabbed to death or
in their home in LA's Brentwood neighborhood. Their bodies were

(00:30):
found on Sunday. Hamilton said. At this time, nobody has
been detained and no one is being questioned as a suspect.
Sixteen people are dead following a mass shooting at a
Jewish event in Australia. At least forty others were injured
when gunman opened fire and a crowd at Bondai Beach
in Sydney. One of the shooters was also killed. The
shooting happened on the first day of Honiquan As being

(00:51):
treated as a terrorist incident. Police in Providence, Rhode Island,
are releasing the person of interest who was taken into
custody in connection with Saturday's mass shooting Brown University. That
shooting killed two people and injured nine. Mayor Brett Smiley
of Providence said that while the move may cause some anxiety,
the belief is that everyone remains safe. A shelter in

(01:11):
place order was lifted on Sunday morning. The remainder of
classes and finals at Round for the fall semester have
been canceled. President Trump's approval rating is down slightly in
a new poll. The NBC News Decision Desk poll found
that forty two percent of those surveyed said they either
strongly approve or somewhat approve of Trump's job as president.
That's down two percent from early September. Fifty eight percent

(01:34):
in the new poll said they either somewhat disapprove or
strongly disapprove of his performance. For the first time since
twenty fourteen, the Kansas City Chiefs are going to miss
the playoffs. The Chiefs lost sixteen thirteen to the Los
Angeles Chargers on Sunday, and the status of star quarterback
Patrick Mahomes is now up in the air. He left
the game laid in the fourth quarter due to a

(01:54):
reaggravated left knee injury. Kansas City went undefeated in twelve

seven of those same games this year. I'm Tammy Triheo.
Arkansas will be the first state to cut ties with PBS.
Rob Martier explains.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
The commission that oversees public television in the state voted
to end its contract with the broadcast company. The eight
member Arkansas Educational Television Commission announced it plans to disaffiliate
from PBS on July first. The commission said the decision
was made due to annual membership fees of about two
point five million, calling it quote simply not feasible. It

(02:31):
also cited the loss of federal funding from the Corporation
for Public Broadcasting, which was defunded by Congress earlier this year.
I'm Rob Bartier.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
A new report claims there's not much evidence to support
the benefits of medical cannabis and that there could be
hidden risks. This study was published this month in the
journal JAMMA. It found that some FDA approved drugs containing
marijuana's active ingredient THCHC do provide benefits for things like
chemotherapy induced nausea and boosting weight and HIV patients. Use
of cannabis for paying menage, however, didn't have any solid

(03:01):
clinical evidence of effectiveness. The researchers say there are real dangers,
citing evidence and adolescents using high potency cannabis have a
higher chance of developing psychotic symptoms. A long running studies
as coffee and tea may affect older women differently. Lisa
Carton has details. The study from Flinders University in Australia
found that tea drinkers had slightly stronger bones. Heavy coffee drinkers,

(03:24):
those who drank five or more cups a day were
shown to have lower bone density, especially in women who
consumed alcohol. I'm Lisa Carton. White Castle is recalling over
one thousand cases of its frozen sliders. The recalls for
its frozen four count boxes of original sliders due to
undeclared milk and soy. The boxes contain Jalapano cheese sliders,
which may contain milk and soy allergens that aren't on

(03:46):
the original slider Carton label. The recalled products were shipped
to retailers between August and October. The billion dollar powerball
jackpot still up for grabs. Nobody matched all six numbers
in Saturday nights drawing. That means the jackpot will roll
over to Monday, when it will be worth at least
one point one billion. I'm Tammy Truhio
