Happy Sunday everyone, it’s been quite the afternoon for us! We had just gotten back from lunch, in the middle of an afternoon work session, when we received a surprise phone call from our front doorman: Police were in the lobby and wanted to come up and conduct a “welfare check.” T.J. and I had very different reactions, but both of them involved confusion and a healthy dose of fear. We’ll explain what the call was about, how it scarily mimicked a horror movie we were watching the previous day, and why we still aren’t sure if we were targeted or misidentified.

and I just got a knock on the door from
the NYPD and we had two very different reactions to it.
With that, Welcome to this live edition. This is in
real time edition of Amy and TJ. Robes. I didn't

this is what we're going to talk about. But you've
been a little wound up here in the past several minutes.
I wanted to get on record, yes, in part because
you said you wanted us to get on record somewhere
with what just happened.

Yeah, I wanted to like text a friend or text
a family member just in case something was used against us.
I'm sorry, but we've had enough experience in the last
few years and actually over the past I mean several
years as people who are in the spotlight understanding the vulnerability.
If someone wants to accuse you of something or wants

to say you did something untoward, you are easy pickings.
If you have some name, they could be bold faced
in some tabloid, then yeah, there stands to be a
gain for someone else if you've pissed them off, if
you've made them angry in any way, shape or form.
They have a recourse to retaliate against you, either with police,
bad publicity. So yes, forgive me if I'm a little

on edge, forget or police knock on our door and
say there was an anonymous phone call.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Okay, so here's the thing, but this is really this
just happened to us. They just left five minutes ago.
They actually did, but it was much longer of an ordeal,
if you will, than that. We've talked about plenty of times.
We live Lower Manhattan. We live in Battery Park City,
downtown love where we live. Been here in the downtown
(01:54):
area for a long time, between Robes Tribeca to the
financial district Battery Park City. This is our hood. So
we have a building that you can't get in. No
one can come in. You can't get deliveries in, which
is annoying at times, but for security reasons it's awesome.
You have to check in with the front desk before

you're allowed up, including apparently police officers. So Robes, a
short time ago, we're sitting doing some work, our internal
or our phone rings and it's downstairs the front desk
and I'm looking at your face not really able to
figure out what was happening. So you tell everybody what
(02:35):
that conversation was.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah, Well, so normally we get a call from the
front desk if we have a delivery coming, and we
know when we have a delivery coming. So I looked
at him and I was like, there's nothing scheduled to
be here. So I go to answer the phone. I
say hello, and they say police are here for a
wellness check. And I said, excuse me, a wellness check

for whom? And he said I can't, I don't know.
They just need to come up. They say they need
to do a wellness check, and I said, okay, obviously
you can send them up. And I got off the
phone and my heart was pounding because I was just
thinking to myself, why in God's name would anyone need
(03:20):
to do a wellness check. We literally just got back
late yesterday from several weeks away out east. I think
a lot of folks who have been listening understand that.
And my two daughters are actually in South Carolina making
a movie. They literally left the following day and they
were on the road and you're a little one, Sabine.
(03:41):
We dropped off late yesterday afternoon, so we know all
of our kids are accounted for, and I'm just imagining
like a wellness. That's why I said for whom? And
so yes, I was nervous, and I thought it was
so strange. We had just had a lunch. It's Sunday,
and I had a glass of rose and you had

a French seventy five right, a prosecco. You were like,
grab your wine and go to the door, and my
mind was like, absolutely not. I'm putting my wine in
this sink and I'm walking up without anything in my hand.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Okay, So you tell me what your reaction was when
you're on the phone with them, What were your scenarios,
What were you concerned about. Where did your head go?
My head at the front desk.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
My head went immediately to someone called in something fake
about us trying to say something or just create problems.
But they miscalculated because none of our children are here.
So if you're trying to throw one of us under
the bus for being bad parents because you're angry about X,
Y and Z. But I immediately felt defensive, even though
obviously we're just chilling here. This is the first alone

time we've had in a month, I believe, yeah, and
maybe even longer than that, because ant Lisa's home from college,
so she's with us NonStop. She just happened to take
a week off to do something with her sister and
so and sub Bean's been with us pretty much not
so this is actually the first day since school was out.
I believe that we are alone. I mean wow. And

like the Catholic school girl in me, I will tell
you anytime a boss called me in or my even
my parents, I need to talk, I immediately think what have
I done? I'm sorry. My Catholic guilt kids kicks in immediately,
but in this moment, I was like, obviously we've done nothing,
and it's sad. My brain goes there, but I do
a scan and then I'm like, oh shit, someone's out

to do as harm. That was my first reaction.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Okay, and as you told me now, my internally, we
didn't have that much time to discuss, no time to
discuss it. My first reaction to that is that I
am personally in danger. I need to immediately do everything
I can to de escalate and make this seem as
(06:00):
safe as an environment as possible. Because two armed police
officers are on the way to my front door under
the assumption of what kind of threat. I don't know,
but I am me and she is white and blonde
(06:22):
haired and blue eyed, and I immediately thought, Babe, I
am in danger. And so I was curious. And it's
so funny that way your mind thought. And we started
discussing later on, like what you were thinking that?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Now?
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I was so, I was like, why.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Did you tell me to bring my rose? I was
so confused. I was like, I don't want to be
walking up to an officer making them think that I'm
see day drinking, Like no, even though I'm in my
own home and I am fully capable of having a
glass rose on a Sunday. I suddenly got freaked.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Out, and so here is And I told you this
a little bit later, Rose, What did you see me do?
I walked to the front door when you got off
the phone. I opened it wide. I grabbed my glass
and I put it at the whatever table at the front,
and I leaned against and I asked you, I said,
can I get you someone? I wanted to fill it up,

And the reason is I wanted them to see as
safe and a warm and social and laid back environment.
As possible. Nobody here is in danger, officer, and that
is why I swear to God, you were.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Trying to create the ambiance because we were literally in
the middle of a work meeting. We had decided we
had just come back from lunch. We're like, you know,
let's take an hour and plan out our week. Our
schedule is getting crazy, so we poured ourselves a glass
and we're having a working afternoon meeting on a Sunday,
trying to still make it feel fun like a.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Sunday, and here come the cops.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
But I was like, wait, what is actually happening? And look,
you have had obviously your experiences and I've actually had
one of my own that led us to both jump
to certain conclusions.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Yes, but rogues in this moment, in this environment, it
was fascinating to see how you and I viewed it
differently to where you were. You didn't want to be
embarrassed by they might think I'm day.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Drinking, yeah, because also, look, I've had my own experience
where that was an accusation that somehow I was a
lush like that was partly why ABC tried to say
they threw me under the bus. So I'm like, I
don't want anyone looking at me like I'm doing something wrong,
even though that's a silly notion, but I jumped to
that place in my head and it was like stupid,
(08:38):
But that's where I went.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
So here's and what did they So, yes, they come
to the door. We have to know. They didn't need
to knock.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
It was wild the door open.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
We had the front. Your dog didn't even bark. The
dog usually barked when people come to the door, didn't.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
He actually, So the nice thing is he's this cute
little if anyone has seen my instagram, this cute little
multi poo he it looks like a stuffed animal that moves.
So he comes and just casually walks up and like
sits right next to me as we're all just looking
at the officers and they're actually embarrassed. Oh yes, made
me immediately feel better the moment they walked up. They
(09:15):
were surprised at the scene they walked in on. So
I don't know what this phone call was that brought
them to our apartment, which I'm so not ready to
laugh about because I need to understand the origins. You
think it was a mistaken apartment, but I'm nervous that someone.
Now I feel like someone has something out there, like
(09:36):
they're trying to do harm.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
See that, and you know that I will give you,
and that is fair given all that we've experienced. But
the accus they excuse me, or at least the call
they said they got ropes, I have it right, They said,
a fifteen to seventeen year old male. And what about
somebody wrote up with someone in the elevator. Then they
came from our apartment or out of our apartment.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
I believe what they said because they were like, whoa,
this was not the scene we were expecting. Like literally,
that is what they said.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
We look like a Christmas card.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
You know. We were like walking up, We're even well dressed. Yeah,
we just came back from lunch. We were actually like yes,
hair makeup done, Like I look like I just came
back from a I don't know, a garden party and
a designer dog. And then my designer dog comes up
and just sits there politely and like tilts his head
and looks at the officers, and they're like, wow, this
(10:28):
is not what we were expecting. And so they said,
you know what, we may we may have the wrong apartment.
Can we can we.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Make a phone call now?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
The woman is standing there looking at us awkwardly. He
takes a couple of steps back and he's on the phone.
He's like, are you are you sure? It's Oh, I
shouldn't have said that, damn all right anyway, and he
asks if it's the right apartment and they clear they
say yes, that's the correct apartment. And he's like talking
(10:59):
and we can't hear what he's saying. And he comes
back and he's like, yeah, they said that there was
a fifteen to seventeen year old man. I thought it
was coming out of your apartment and someone in the
elevator was uncomfortable, as I.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Said, And that makes no What a sense does that make?
I don't know, I.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Don't but why would there need to be a welfare
check out?
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Blood condition of.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
The person in the elevator was messed up? I don't know,
but that was confusing. We've taken the elevator. I've actually
taken it a couple of times today on my own.
I went running, I walked Brody, and then you and
I went to lunch and we came back. Every single
time I have been in the elevator today including with you.
There has not been one other person in the elevator
with me, obviously, no one who actually was in the

elevator with either of us or together. We were not
We were not in an it's a big building, it's actually,
but it's pretty common that I'm in the elevator alone.
So yeah, I don't know if someone went into another
apartment or came from another apartment, or if it was
just a prank call. Why was it an anonymous phone call?
Speaker 1 (12:13):
A prank anonymous? Why would you call anonymously just to
report something suspicious? Okay? That wow, okay, you know what.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
That's why?

When the anonymous part?

But why anonymous? That made me nervous. That made me
really concern that there was someone there just to ruffle
our feathers or to make us get uncomfortable.

But why is it fifteen seventeen year old male?
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Why would that be the first thing that we both
said to the officers was well, we only have.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Daughters, nothing but girls are coming in out.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
There are no fifteen to seventeen year old men in
this apartment ever. Actually, I don't think there have ever events.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Ever, said foot, not one.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
No. Some of Analsia's friends but they're in their twenties,
so it's adduction. Yeah, that was fifteen to seventeen year
old male. Now, I did tell you. The other thing
that was really weird to me was that this was
so strangely oddly connected to a horror movie we watched yesterday. Wait,
what this incident was so unbelievable to us. That was
(13:13):
kind of horror we were watching yesterday. I felt like
it was a strange twist.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Okay, we watched the many horror movies. We watched them,
many horror movies. This was bizaar. It's random. I think.
I don't know, baby, I don't know. You got me
thinking about it differently. Now, they it was just a mistake,
just a wrong It was just a mistake.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
But I do think it's strange that they knew our
apartment of her, and they were very specific about it.
There is no there is no similar apartment letter to ours.
It could be another floor, but they called and checked
and confirmed. But the interesting thing was, I said the

police officer, both of them, you're more than welcome to
come in. There's no one.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Oh yeah, that's what I knew. I was with a
white woman. You were like, come on in. Guys, but
I have nothing to hide. There's neither do I.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
There's nothing in this apartment. In fact, I just wanted
them to make sure that they knew that there was
no one, which was probably because I watched this horror movie.
When we come back, I'm going to tell you this
is so weird. This movie we watched less than twenty
four hours ago had a very similar scenario that I
said was unreal and unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Oh my goodness, welcome back, everybody. This episode of Amy
and TJ nine one one, apparently, what the hell was
that about? Who called the police so now? And with
that had to have been a nine to one one call.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
It sounded like it was urgent. The doorman sounded like
it was merchants. And when they came up and said
a welfare check. Look, any other time you've got a
welfare check? Someone has now called in to the police.
And yes, that would mean nine to one one that
there is someone who seems unwell, in some sort of

emergency situation or in need of immediate police help. Look,
people have talked about calling for police and needing help.
And I was thinking about even when we've done stories
about the woman's screaming because there was a Knixt game on,
and then there's a welfare check and the dog's barking
and the dog gets shot. All this crazy stuff, so

it's so interesting. I talked about a horror movie before
we went to the break, and I'll get to that
in just a moment, but I will tell you horror
movies went into my mind multiple times when you're talking
to the police, because Yep, first of all, if we've laughed,
we have crazy movies playing a lot. And the last
night we even had I don't even know what horror

movie playing, and we walked into the other room and
you and I looked at each other. We were dying
laughing because you could hear someone being murdered, like murderous
screams coming from the TV. And I even thought, like, wow,
if that was too loud, I could see why a
neighbor might call and say there's someone in danger in
the apartment because of the horror movies that are playing.

But it just so happened that when we got this
phone call, and no, at no point leading up to
the phone call were we actually watching a horror movie.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
We did have The Mummy on though, but it was low.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
There was no audio. There was no audio, and honestly,
it's CNN and Fox News on, so that could be
a horror show for other people. But there was no
screaming woman in the woods being like hacked to.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Death, a woman screaming and here we go.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Yes, So that so my mind initially thought, could we
have had a horror movie on where someone thought someone
was being murdered? That absolutely went through my head, and
then I was like, actually no. Oddly, today, we've been
kind of in work mode because we were coming off
of vacation. We needed to get you know, our schedule streets.
We were kind of we had a work mindset in
(17:13):
place and just thought like, hey, let's have one glass
and get some work done, but let's have some fun
and not expecting this police call. So then the other
thing that went through my head, and please help me
if you can remember, because it was your idea to
watch this movie. Oh I know, it was Faces of Death.
So the new Faces of Death movie is now streaming,
and we thought, oh, it'll be fun. So we got

back after a long drive unpacking or packing unpacking, and
then all what happens when you're coming off of vacation
just want to chill and in our weird household, it's
to watch a horror movie. And I've been wanting to
watch Faces of Death. But there's a scene in the movie.
I'm not even kidding. There's a scene in the movie
where this guy who is actually the serial killer? Am
(17:57):
I giving anything away? Sorry, full disclosure. If you want
to watch Faces of Death, don't keep listening. But I've
given you the warning.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
So it was clear at that point who the bad
guy was. You're fine, serial killer.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
So this this woman who is known to kind of
be like a an Instagram kind of like influence her.
She's trying to tell the police that she's been abducted
by this man, that there are other people being held
hostage in his basement, and this guy's, you know, some
wack a doodle serial killer. And so they drive to
his place in like this adorable house in the middle
(18:30):
of suburbia, looks like such a pleasant place to live.
He opens the door, looks like the nicest guy ever.
And the cops are like, yeah, you don't look it
looks fine, and she's like, you know, she's bloodied and crazy,
and he somehow convinces the cops without ever stepping foot
inside his home, that she's insane and he's normal and

she's been stalking him, and the police just take his
word for it. Do not go in meantime, like there's
a woman fighting for her life trying to crawl out
of and the cops are right there, and the and
the serial killer convinces him them that he's a nice
guy and that never happened the police. If you get
a call and police are being told that something scary
(19:15):
might be happening inside, I don't care how nice you
look or how normal you seem. They're going to check
the house. So so now I'm sitting here and I'm
thinking like, oh my god, this is life imitating art.
And I'm now got I've now got two police officers
looking at us, and clearly we don't look like anything
(19:36):
bad's happening. And and by the way, he had like
opera music playing. He had like like wait what he
had like oh, in the background, he had set like
this scene where it's like this nice house. He had
like beautiful opera music playing. Oh, it didn't seem like
anything bad was happening. I think we had like CNN
in the background.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
But you got some really expensive candles burning too.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
We got like, yes, candle's burning, We've got a little
like multi pooh right there.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
And I'm they just took our word for it.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
I feel like that's why I was like, please come in,
like take a look, like open every closet, every door.
There's no one here. But they took our word for it.
And so here's me immediately going damn. I guess that
could have happened in that movie because they believed us.

But you also wanted to make sure you told somebody
about what just happens. So here is us officially getting
on record that there's nobody tied up in the apartment.

Well I also know, but like I worried too, Like
this is how rumors get started, and you know, it's
it's tough you have to think about this type of
thing these days, but especially after what we've been through.
I'm thinking, and our staff is amazing at this building,
but I'm thinking, like all they have to do is
text one tabloid and say police showed up at their apartment.

And a welfare check, and what's the assumption going to be it?
Speaker 2 (20:53):
And now you've got a headline in every tabloid you
can imagine, And so I actually told you. I was like,
I just kind of want to be on the record
and text a friend or text a family member and say,
this weird thing just happened. And it was just a
weird thing. And maybe it was just a mistaken identity,
or it was another apartment or another floor. But on

the worst part of it, like the on the darker
side of it, it could be someone who was trying
to just stir the pot and then have something to
write about. I don't know, but it always I don't.
This is the moment where I lost my trust. Like beforehand,
I wouldn't have thought anything of this. I would have
laughed it off. But now I do. I do get

worried about.

Just how rumors start and how people start to believe
everything they read or whatever whisper someone saying, And this
is just how things begin.

so confused. I was like, I don't want to be
walking up to an officer making them think that I'm
see day drinking, Like no, even though I'm in my
own home and I am fully capable of having a
glass rose on a Sunday. I suddenly got freaked.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Out, and so here is And I told you this
a little bit later, Rose, What did you see me do?
I walked to the front door when you got off
the phone. I opened it wide. I grabbed my glass
and I put it at the whatever table at the front,
and I leaned against and I asked you, I said,
can I get you someone? I wanted to fill it up,
(07:18):
And the reason is I wanted them to see as
safe and a warm and social and laid back environment.
As possible. Nobody here is in danger, officer, and that
is why I swear to God, you were.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Trying to create the ambiance because we were literally in
the middle of a work meeting. We had decided we
had just come back from lunch. We're like, you know,
let's take an hour and plan out our week. Our
schedule is getting crazy, so we poured ourselves a glass
and we're having a working afternoon meeting on a Sunday,
trying to still make it feel fun like a.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Sunday, and here come the cops.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
But I was like, wait, what is actually happening? And look,
you have had obviously your experiences and I've actually had
one of my own that led us to both jump
to certain conclusions.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Yes, but rogues in this moment, in this environment, it
was fascinating to see how you and I viewed it
differently to where you were. You didn't want to be
embarrassed by they might think I'm day.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Drinking, yeah, because also, look, I've had my own experience
where that was an accusation that somehow I was a
lush like that was partly why ABC tried to say
they threw me under the bus. So I'm like, I
don't want anyone looking at me like I'm doing something wrong,
even though that's a silly notion, but I jumped to
that place in my head and it was like stupid,
(08:38):
But that's where I went.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
So here's and what did they So, yes, they come
to the door. We have to know. They didn't need
to knock.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
It was wild the door open.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
We had the front. Your dog didn't even bark. The
dog usually barked when people come to the door, didn't.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
He actually, So the nice thing is he's this cute
little if anyone has seen my instagram, this cute little
multi poo he it looks like a stuffed animal that moves.
So he comes and just casually walks up and like
sits right next to me as we're all just looking
at the officers and they're actually embarrassed. Oh yes, made
me immediately feel better the moment they walked up. They
(09:15):
were surprised at the scene they walked in on. So
I don't know what this phone call was that brought
them to our apartment, which I'm so not ready to
laugh about because I need to understand the origins. You
think it was a mistaken apartment, but I'm nervous that someone.
Now I feel like someone has something out there, like
(09:36):
they're trying to do harm.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
See that, and you know that I will give you,
and that is fair given all that we've experienced. But
the accus they excuse me, or at least the call
they said they got ropes, I have it right, They said,
a fifteen to seventeen year old male. And what about
somebody wrote up with someone in the elevator. Then they
came from our apartment or out of our apartment.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
I believe what they said because they were like, whoa,
this was not the scene we were expecting. Like literally,
that is what they said.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
We look like a Christmas card.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
You know. We were like walking up, We're even well dressed. Yeah,
we just came back from lunch. We were actually like yes,
hair makeup done, Like I look like I just came
back from a I don't know, a garden party and
a designer dog. And then my designer dog comes up
and just sits there politely and like tilts his head
and looks at the officers, and they're like, wow, this
(10:28):
is not what we were expecting. And so they said,
you know what, we may we may have the wrong apartment.
Can we can we.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Make a phone call now?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
The woman is standing there looking at us awkwardly. He
takes a couple of steps back and he's on the phone.
He's like, are you are you sure? It's Oh, I
shouldn't have said that, damn all right anyway, and he
asks if it's the right apartment and they clear they
say yes, that's the correct apartment. And he's like talking
(10:59):
and we can't hear what he's saying. And he comes
back and he's like, yeah, they said that there was
a fifteen to seventeen year old man. I thought it
was coming out of your apartment and someone in the
elevator was uncomfortable, as I.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Said, And that makes no What a sense does that make?
I don't know, I.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Don't but why would there need to be a welfare
check out?
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Blood condition of.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
The person in the elevator was messed up? I don't know,
but that was confusing. We've taken the elevator. I've actually
taken it a couple of times today on my own.
I went running, I walked Brody, and then you and
I went to lunch and we came back. Every single
time I have been in the elevator today including with you.
There has not been one other person in the elevator
with me, obviously, no one who actually was in the
(11:48):
elevator with either of us or together. We were not
We were not in an it's a big building, it's actually,
but it's pretty common that I'm in the elevator alone.
So yeah, I don't know if someone went into another
apartment or came from another apartment, or if it was
just a prank call. Why was it an anonymous phone call?
Speaker 1 (12:13):
A prank anonymous? Why would you call anonymously just to
report something suspicious? Okay? That wow, okay, you know what.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
That's why?
Speaker 1 (12:22):
When the anonymous part?
Speaker 2 (12:23):
But why anonymous? That made me nervous. That made me
really concern that there was someone there just to ruffle
our feathers or to make us get uncomfortable.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
But why is it fifteen seventeen year old male?
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Why would that be the first thing that we both
said to the officers was well, we only have.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Daughters, nothing but girls are coming in out.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
There are no fifteen to seventeen year old men in
this apartment ever. Actually, I don't think there have ever events.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Ever, said foot, not one.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
No. Some of Analsia's friends but they're in their twenties,
so it's adduction. Yeah, that was fifteen to seventeen year
old male. Now, I did tell you. The other thing
that was really weird to me was that this was
so strangely oddly connected to a horror movie we watched yesterday. Wait,
what this incident was so unbelievable to us. That was
(13:13):
kind of horror we were watching yesterday. I felt like
it was a strange twist.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Okay, we watched the many horror movies. We watched them,
many horror movies. This was bizaar. It's random. I think.
I don't know, baby, I don't know. You got me
thinking about it differently. Now, they it was just a mistake,
just a wrong It was just a mistake.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
But I do think it's strange that they knew our
apartment of her, and they were very specific about it.
There is no there is no similar apartment letter to ours.
It could be another floor, but they called and checked
and confirmed. But the interesting thing was, I said the
(13:59):
police officer, both of them, you're more than welcome to
come in. There's no one.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Oh yeah, that's what I knew. I was with a
white woman. You were like, come on in. Guys, but
I have nothing to hide. There's neither do I.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
There's nothing in this apartment. In fact, I just wanted
them to make sure that they knew that there was
no one, which was probably because I watched this horror movie.
When we come back, I'm going to tell you this
is so weird. This movie we watched less than twenty
four hours ago had a very similar scenario that I
said was unreal and unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Oh my goodness, welcome back, everybody. This episode of Amy
and TJ nine one one, apparently, what the hell was
that about? Who called the police so now? And with
that had to have been a nine to one one call.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
It sounded like it was urgent. The doorman sounded like
it was merchants. And when they came up and said
a welfare check. Look, any other time you've got a
welfare check? Someone has now called in to the police.
And yes, that would mean nine to one one that
there is someone who seems unwell, in some sort of
(15:18):
emergency situation or in need of immediate police help. Look,
people have talked about calling for police and needing help.
And I was thinking about even when we've done stories
about the woman's screaming because there was a Knixt game on,
and then there's a welfare check and the dog's barking
and the dog gets shot. All this crazy stuff, so
(15:38):
it's so interesting. I talked about a horror movie before
we went to the break, and I'll get to that
in just a moment, but I will tell you horror
movies went into my mind multiple times when you're talking
to the police, because Yep, first of all, if we've laughed,
we have crazy movies playing a lot. And the last
night we even had I don't even know what horror
(16:01):
movie playing, and we walked into the other room and
you and I looked at each other. We were dying
laughing because you could hear someone being murdered, like murderous
screams coming from the TV. And I even thought, like, wow,
if that was too loud, I could see why a
neighbor might call and say there's someone in danger in
the apartment because of the horror movies that are playing.
(16:25):
But it just so happened that when we got this
phone call, and no, at no point leading up to
the phone call were we actually watching a horror movie.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
We did have The Mummy on though, but it was low.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
There was no audio. There was no audio, and honestly,
it's CNN and Fox News on, so that could be
a horror show for other people. But there was no
screaming woman in the woods being like hacked to.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Death, a woman screaming and here we go.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Yes, So that so my mind initially thought, could we
have had a horror movie on where someone thought someone
was being murdered? That absolutely went through my head, and
then I was like, actually no. Oddly, today, we've been
kind of in work mode because we were coming off
of vacation. We needed to get you know, our schedule streets.
We were kind of we had a work mindset in
(17:13):
place and just thought like, hey, let's have one glass
and get some work done, but let's have some fun
and not expecting this police call. So then the other
thing that went through my head, and please help me
if you can remember, because it was your idea to
watch this movie. Oh I know, it was Faces of Death.
So the new Faces of Death movie is now streaming,
and we thought, oh, it'll be fun. So we got
(17:34):
back after a long drive unpacking or packing unpacking, and
then all what happens when you're coming off of vacation
just want to chill and in our weird household, it's
to watch a horror movie. And I've been wanting to
watch Faces of Death. But there's a scene in the movie.
I'm not even kidding. There's a scene in the movie
where this guy who is actually the serial killer? Am
(17:57):
I giving anything away? Sorry, full disclosure. If you want
to watch Faces of Death, don't keep listening. But I've
given you the warning.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
So it was clear at that point who the bad
guy was. You're fine, serial killer.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
So this this woman who is known to kind of
be like a an Instagram kind of like influence her.
She's trying to tell the police that she's been abducted
by this man, that there are other people being held
hostage in his basement, and this guy's, you know, some
wack a doodle serial killer. And so they drive to
his place in like this adorable house in the middle
(18:30):
of suburbia, looks like such a pleasant place to live.
He opens the door, looks like the nicest guy ever.
And the cops are like, yeah, you don't look it
looks fine, and she's like, you know, she's bloodied and crazy,
and he somehow convinces the cops without ever stepping foot
inside his home, that she's insane and he's normal and
(18:51):
she's been stalking him, and the police just take his
word for it. Do not go in meantime, like there's
a woman fighting for her life trying to crawl out
of and the cops are right there, and the and
the serial killer convinces him them that he's a nice
guy and that never happened the police. If you get
a call and police are being told that something scary
(19:15):
might be happening inside, I don't care how nice you
look or how normal you seem. They're going to check
the house. So so now I'm sitting here and I'm
thinking like, oh my god, this is life imitating art.
And I'm now got I've now got two police officers
looking at us, and clearly we don't look like anything
(19:36):
bad's happening. And and by the way, he had like
opera music playing. He had like like wait what he
had like oh, in the background, he had set like
this scene where it's like this nice house. He had
like beautiful opera music playing. Oh, it didn't seem like
anything bad was happening. I think we had like CNN
in the background.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
But you got some really expensive candles burning too.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
We got like, yes, candle's burning, We've got a little
like multi pooh right there.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
And I'm they just took our word for it.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
I feel like that's why I was like, please come in,
like take a look, like open every closet, every door.
There's no one here. But they took our word for it.
And so here's me immediately going damn. I guess that
could have happened in that movie because they believed us.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
But you also wanted to make sure you told somebody
about what just happens. So here is us officially getting
on record that there's nobody tied up in the apartment.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Well I also know, but like I worried too, Like
this is how rumors get started, and you know, it's
it's tough you have to think about this type of
thing these days, but especially after what we've been through.
I'm thinking, and our staff is amazing at this building,
but I'm thinking, like all they have to do is
text one tabloid and say police showed up at their apartment.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
And a welfare check, and what's the assumption going to be it?
Speaker 2 (20:53):
And now you've got a headline in every tabloid you
can imagine, And so I actually told you. I was like,
I just kind of want to be on the record
and text a friend or text a family member and say,
this weird thing just happened. And it was just a
weird thing. And maybe it was just a mistaken identity,
or it was another apartment or another floor. But on
(21:14):
the worst part of it, like the on the darker
side of it, it could be someone who was trying
to just stir the pot and then have something to
write about. I don't know, but it always I don't.
This is the moment where I lost my trust. Like beforehand,
I wouldn't have thought anything of this. I would have
laughed it off. But now I do. I do get
(21:35):
worried about.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Just how rumors start and how people start to believe
everything they read or whatever whisper someone saying, And this
is just how things begin.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
That's fair where you're coming from there at all is fair.
I'm not challenging you in that. I never would at all.
It sucks that experience has put us in this place,
but maybe it'll save us in the future. And here
we are.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
