Speaker 1 (00:10):
Hey, that folks.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
It is Friday, January ninth, and on this Friday evening,
we've got some new developments out of Minneapolis. One, we
are seeing a new video, a new camera angle, and
it's from the vantage point of the officer who shot
Renee would In addition to that, we are getting a
new statement from Renee Wood's wife. With that, welcome to
(00:32):
this episode of Amy and TJ. These were two very
significant developments. Long statement will share it with you, or
much of it with you. But the video has people talking,
and it's video that once again two sizes are interpreting
two different ways.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yes, so it's from the vantage point of the officers.
So we don't know how we got this video, but
it seems like he would have had to have given
approval or allowed for its release because what it shows
is a taunting what was going on before and in
the very last moments leading up to the shooting. And
(01:09):
you see Becca Good in the car in the driver's seat,
and you see sorry, Becca Good is her wife out there,
and you see Renee Good in the driver's seat and
she starts talking to the officer who ended up shooting her,
and they are going back and forth.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
She said, that's fine, dude, I'm not mad at you.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
She's saying that to that officer as he's going around.
Her wife is kind of taunting the officer, So you
want to come at us?
Speaker 4 (01:40):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Eventually she says, go get yourself some lunch, big boy.
So she's absolutely taunting the officer.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, so, folks, I know several videos, and many of
you at this point have seen several of them in
more than once. But this is a brand new one
we did see today. But to make it clear, this
is from the vantage point of the officer. His name
has been out there. His name is Jonathan Ross, so
we're not saying anything that wasn't put out there officially.
(02:08):
But you see him now from his vantage point as
he is walking around the car taking this cell phone video.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Now how this.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Helps hurts one side or the other, I don't know,
but both sides have immediately come out and pointed out
the things in this video that they think bolster their case.
Let's start with one side.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Ropes.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Let's go with DHS White House, the Administration. They shows,
they say one, it shows a clear taunting. Two, it
shows clearly that the driver, Rene Good, could see that
there was an officer in front of her, and they say, yes,
this does show that that vehicle is coming towards the officer.
(02:50):
How does that sound to you? Some of it you
can't deny.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yes, I mean clearly there were words going back and forth.
Clearly there was taunting going on, and you noted the
officer did not respond. You did not hear him respond
back and forth with the women. They were just saying
things to him, and he was recording it as he
was coming around. Now, the one thing that was really
(03:17):
interesting is that you actually hear Renee's wife Becca, who
she was the one who was taunting the officer more
than Renee really wasn't, but she actually yells because as
they're coming around one side of the truck, you can
see the other officer who's telling Renee to get out
of the car, coming at from the opposite side, and
(03:38):
that is when you see and you hear her wife,
Becca say drive, baby, drive drive, And that's when Renee
takes off the idea. You know, we hadn't seen that before,
We hadn't heard that before. That was certainly of note.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
So yeah, so the other side has been looking at
this video and her putting it quite differently. They will
point out first what you just noted, as well as
the officer. And he does make a full circle pretty
much around the car, and he's recording. But he makes
the first pass around the car and he has to
drive by or walk by the driver's side. Renee Good
(04:17):
has the window down and she makes a statement to him.
But she's smiling. Even if she's being sarcastic, she comes
off as pleasant. What I'm saying in that interaction, she
doesn't seem angry at all. Agreed, right, what was the language?
What did she say to she?
Speaker 4 (04:31):
She actually said, that's fine, dude, I'm not mad at you.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yes, she says, And there was just a quick pass.
The officer continues around. Now this is where the wife
and Rhodes. I give him credit because she was in
She was in very close proximity to him to the
point of in his face at a couple of moments.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
And she was recording him recording with her, and he
was looking at her license plate with his cell phone
just to note who they were. And she says to him,
and just so you know, it will be the same
plate when you come back, when you come talk to
us later. That's fine. She was taunt to him, because
it's known that lots of ICE agents are switching their
license plates before they go out on duty so that
(05:11):
they can't be traced or tracked. So she was making
light of that, like, we'll have our same license plate
unlike you.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
So again, so they'll point out that at least Renee
Good wasn't being angry, wasn't taunting, wasn't going back and
forth in this video. Now, the other thing that that
side will point out is that as the officer is
in front of the vehicle, they will continue to say
this is against policy and they're taught not to stand
in from a vehicle. That makes sense from a safety standpoint,
(05:42):
But a lot of people are pointing to in that
moment where Becca Good is saying to Renee would go
go when the officers are.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Pro drive baby, drive drive.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Some folks are pointing to the fact that Renee Good
seems to really cut the wheel, really cut it to
the right to look like she's trying to get away
and not her intent is not to hit the officer. Yes,
that can be a fair argument as well.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
That absolutely has been noted by the other side. Something
else that has been noted is that if you watch
this video and you listen to it, after you hear
the gunshots, the multiple gunshots, you hear a male voice
say efing bitch, and you hear it.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
We listened to it.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
We went back and heard it, and it's very clear
someone with a male voice says effing bitch after multiple gunshots.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
It's disturbing to listen to.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
No, it sucks to listen to whoever in that moment. Yes,
it all these things are so after the fact, right,
it's so easy for all of us to now break
this down frame by frame, video by video, and second
by second, and we still don't all.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Agree on what we see.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
This is a split second that all of this takes place,
and I'm sure emotions are running high from what we're told.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
That officer was injured in this incident.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
So he just got hit by a car for all
intents and purposes by someone. He doesn't know what the
intent was. He knows they were taunting him and they
didn't listen to the officers. And yeah, that emotional moment
saying f and bitch, Yeah that was a real thing.
Now it sounds awful because we have the information after
(07:25):
the fact that he didn't have which is that he
just killed a woman, that f and bitch, that he
just killed a woman and he didn't know it. This
just I don't know it bolsters one side or another,
not really it helps to add to the picture maybe,
but it adds to just the awfulness of that situation.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Isn't it remarkable?
Speaker 3 (07:46):
I hear what you're saying and getting all those different angles.
It doesn't even necessarily make a clearer picture for anyone.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
You see what you want to see.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
That defends how you feel about what happened, and there
there's enough information for both sides to justify their position
on what happened that day. But I think the clearest
thing you see from this is just how quickly things
can escalate. How it just takes one spark, one little thing.
Maybe it was unfortunately Becca telling her wife to drive,
(08:20):
Maybe it was, you know, just whatever. It was exactly
where the officer ended up being in that exact moment,
But tensions were so high it just took a spark
for the powder keg to just explode. I think people
take for granted how quickly and how dangerous it is
to escalate something or a situation with officers who are
(08:43):
armed and when.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
You don't do what they tell you to do.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
It's not that you deserve to die or what was
what happened should have happened.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Absolutely not, but it's possible. It is.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
No one. I don't know what it's like to be
on either side of that situation.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
But we're looking for a right or wrong.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
We're just looking for It's his fault because of this,
It's her fault because of that. President Trump's fault because
they shouldn't even be there. It's Minnesota's fault because they
should have cut down on all this stuff.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
It's just it's just not that simple.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
We've all contributed in some way, form or fashion to
what happened and what is happening in this country. We
are all in some way responding. We just we are,
and how we talk about these things, and how we
how we have a lack of how we don't measure
sometimes our reaction to things. And this is another one
where everybody jumped to conclusions. We got f bombs being
(09:37):
thrown in press conferences, we got quick tweets being sent
out calling folks terrorists. We immediately ramped up. And this
was the hardest one to watch, I think rose because
it seemed like there were so many bad actors and
it seemed unnecessary. It seems so the taunting that was
(09:58):
going on with it. This guy is all armed, Why
are you?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Why are we?
Speaker 2 (10:03):
And again it seems difficult to criticize one side or
take issue with one side or another because somebody's dead
on that side, so you're not supposed to take any issue.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Of course, she knows she shouldn't be dead.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah, and we are hearing from Becca Good just now.
I guess what how long has it been? Not even
two days?
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Two days?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
And to imagine that she actually witnessed this all and
contributed to the situation and maybe even unfortunately contributed to
the escalation of the situation. But she has a message,
and she shared a statement with folks about her wife.
I think that's the thing that gets lost oftentimes is
(10:47):
the victim. No matter how you feel about how she acted,
she was a human being. She was a mother, she
was a wife, she was a person.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
I want to go back and we're going to share
the statement something you said about contributing to Is it
wrong because people jumped on JD. Vans immediately, But the idea,
can you not are you not allowed to say, or
to look at this situation and say that something was
done that contributed to her death and it wasn't just
(11:17):
solely every action by the ICE agents.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Oh, I mean, can we think you have to be
able to can.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
You say that it's something about it that feels wrong
because it almost feels like you're blaming it. It is,
of course not the case, but the idea that something
was done that contributed to the death outside of what
these agents did.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
It wasn't directly she wasn't directly responsible for wasn't obviously
didn't want that to be the outcome. But to say
that you contributed to the situation that led to something,
and I think that's a fair way to examine how
it turned so ugly so quickly.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
All right, well, folks, stay here.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
There was a you know what, we're learning more maybe
about the victim, at least in a heartfelt statement from
someone it was very close to her. Her partner Becca
Good put out a lengthy statements. Stay here, we will
share that with you. All right, folks, stay or I
(12:23):
they stay with us. That already tossed the break bros.
This is why we don't eat these on Friday. But yeah, folks,
we're gonna share with you now as we continue here,
a couple of major developments here on Friday, late Friday
now coming out of Minneapolis. One, of course, we told
you about the new video we've been talking about, but
also we are hearing from Becca Good, Becca Good, the
(12:44):
wife of Renee Wood, who was shot by that ice
agent in Minneapolis. And we heard that Becca Good was
on scene. But this new video now robes we are
seeing and hearing Becca Wood excuse me Good in the video,
and now we're hearing this statement.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Yes, and first off, says she wants to extend I'll
just read directly from her statement. I want to extend
my gratitude to all the people who have reached out
from across the country and around the world to support
our family. This kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute,
because if you never encountered my wife, Renee Nicole Macklin Good,
(13:25):
you know that above all else, she was kind. In fact,
kindness radiated out of her. Renee sparkled. She literally sparkled.
I mean she didn't wear glitter, but I swear she
had sparkles coming out of her pores all the time.
You might think it was just my love talking, but
her family said the same thing.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Renee was made of sunshine.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Renee lived by an overarching belief there is kindness in
the world, and we need to do everything we can
to find it where it resides and nurture it where
it needs to grow. Renee was a Christian who knew
that all religions tea each the same essential truth. We
are here to love each other, care for each other,
and keep each other safe and whole, like people have
(14:07):
done across place and time. We moved to make a
better life for ourselves. We chose Minnesota to make our
home our whole extended road trip. Here, we held hands
in the car while our son drew all over the
windows to pass the time and the miles. What we
found when we got here was a vibrant and welcoming community.
We made friends and spread joy, and while any place
(14:30):
we were together was home. There was a strong shared
sense here in Minneapolis that we were looking out for
each other. Here I had finally found peace and safe
harbor that has been taken from me forever. We were
raising our son to believe that no matter where you
come from or what you look like, all of us
deserve compassion and kindness. Renee lived this belief every day.
(14:52):
She is pure love, She is pure joy, She is
pure sunshine. On Wednesday, January seventh, we stop to support
our neighbors. We had whistles, they had guns. Renee leaves
behind three extraordinary children. The youngest is just six years
old and already lost his father. I am now left
(15:13):
to raise our son and to continue teaching him as
Renee believed that there are people building a better world
for him, that the people who did this had fear
and anger in their hearts, and we need to show
them a better way. We thank you for the privacy
you are granting our family as we grieve. We thank
you for ensuring that Renee's legacy is one of kindness
and love. We honor her memory by living her values,
(15:36):
rejecting hate and choosing compassion, turning away from fear and
pursuing peace, refusing division, and knowing we must come together
to build a world where we all come home safe
to the people we love.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
They are folks hurting today because of this, And yeah,
I'm me, I'm glad we got to hear from somebody
from that side we've been hearing about.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
I guess.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Renee Good and now hearing directly from our loved one.
So I meanes, this is just this video I guess
will never come We'll never all agree on what we
all see in the video.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
There is.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
They're breaking this down legally, we're not there. We can
also update about the investigation. Still, the FBI, at least
according to the city officials, have locked out the locals
as being a part of the investigation, so the locals
don't have access to the evidence. So folks are wondering,
is this really an independent is just going to be
(16:40):
a really thorough investigation?
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Even in Minnesota. This is kind of a mess rope.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
They're asking for citizens, send us your video, send us
so they're asking for evidence that maybe the FBI might
need in their investigation.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
It's just it's a mess.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
It is a mess because the FBI and the federal
government is looking through a different lens than local officials
are looking through. And then you have folks on both
sides of the aisle living there in Minnesota also almost
certainly feeling very differently about seeing the same thing. Even
despite all the different angles we have, all the different
(17:14):
cell phone videos we have, we still can't agree with
what we saw.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
But I think we can say.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
That what we did see of Rachel before she died,
she was smiling. She was kind, even if she was
blocking the road, and even if she was doing what
she thought she was renee what she was doing what
she thought was right, at least she was doing it
with a smile on her face. That is the last
image we saw of her face was her smiling. And
(17:43):
I don't know that's something to take away. Even if
she was being defiant, even if she was protesting in
her way, she wasn't doing it viciously, or at least
it didn't appear to be well.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
In that image.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
And the other folks who are telling I mean, we
are seeing her character being dragged. We saw I think
it was a headline here in New York on the
cover of one of the tabloids here that was really
just ripping her. So's they're going after her character. And
I mean, I guess, look, I don't know. We can
never we can never agree, can we. But this is
(18:16):
just another one. Expect probably protests throughout the weekend, but
so far, things for the most part been peaceful. Hopefully
that will continue at least, But folks, I always appreciate
you spending some time. We just wanted to hop on here.
Didn't expect to do this one this evening. I was
hoping to do more, some upbeat stuff going into the weekend.
But we'll have more for you. But we always appreciate
you spending some time with us. Sign DJ Holme on
