that were last night. Of course, is a very big night.
And I feel like last night was really special and

First and foremost. First matter of business today our guest
this past week on IRL Nia long. First of all,
before we get into what she had on, I just

go watch it. It's so much fun. She's so gorgeous,
she's so much she's so smart. She we opened up
a conversation about her DMS and I jokingly said, my

phoning on with DM. To Nia, she said, welcome to
the world. She did this to me. She did she
opened up, shed floodgated my DMS. I think it's really funny.
So that's been an ongoing joke of her and I
all week. But I love the episode. I hope you

our episode, she must have flew back to La did

a fitting and popped out on his brown silky number.
Look at Nia. That photo's great. But there's a video
of her where she's like walking in. She walks and
she flings her hair and she walks away and she
gives like a little backward wave. I'm like, look at
this girl. She's such made for this, she's made for this,
and look at this dress. Look at her, Come on now, Nia.

So yeah, she looked amazing on the carpet. Lots of
people look great and there's plenty of places you could

on the carpet at BET Awards, shout out to Aszie
Assie Assie as if Assi. This was her first time hosted.
Like I've I've seen Azzie on a panel. I've seen

Azzie on her pod or on Instagram with dope looks,
and you know, I know, as my niece, i know
it's it's birth. But watching her step into the role
of like correspondent and be on the carpet and talking
to young Miami and you know, just everybody and looking
as fly as she did, I was like, Yo, she

is such a natural scene. She's so in her bag.
So shout out to Azzie doing a great job at
the BET Awards. Also shout out to Laura and l Rossa.
I saw her. She had on a really pretty outfit
and she was doing the carpet as well. And Ivy,
our girl, Ivy Rivera was out there hosting the BT Experience,
the Experience, Yes and Jazzy Jazzy's World. She was not

only there, but she got a BET Award. I don't
want to jack up the title of her award, but
it was basically like a young Person's Award and she
got it this year. And so I love to see
our people, our people in our world flourishing. So that
was really cool to see everybody out there doing their thing.
And then let's get to the show, because for sure,

one of the highlights of last night's be ET Awards
was the Lauren Hill tribute, which everybody and their mother
popped out for. Actually her kids even popped out for that.
But to me, it's really hard to say because there
were a lot of great pop outs. I mean, Doja
Cat and Nahas did if I Ruled the World, which
a NAS pop out always gets the people going, and

he always looks good and he's just he's just nas
Nas was just nasing and Lauren looked really happy watching it.
And we don't get to see Doja that much, especially
in something in a moment like that, and everybody just
loves and respects Lauren so much. You could tell by
the performances. Lizzo Thames don't let me forget anybody Rhapsody
Doci says A. He says a, yes, like, and you

could tell that they popped out. They didn't just pop
out because be Et was like, yo, dude, this Like
you could tell that there was love inserted into that tribute.
And on top of that, Queen Latifa popped out. Queen
Latifa don't be popping out rapping for people like she
you know what I mean, actual moment, but for a
lot of pop out and she popped out with Common,

which immediately gives you a nod to just write those
two together in that movie. But you forget, like, you know,
not only are they movie stars and these you know,
og talents, you forget like their first rappers, Like so
they killed the performance, like the actual performance was was great.

So yeah, I thought that was really special. Shout out
to Lawrence Hill.

Her kids coming on were so cute too, cute. Yeah, yeah,
and they're all so talented.

Something about them kids. Boy, once your kids just happen,
you can't be cool no more. Like she just she
was really happy to see that. So that was a
super highlight last night.

The fact that she only has one album too, and
it's still being celebrated.

All was talking about the last night. I was like, Yo,
you just never know. Somebody got ten albums and they're
just they're not revered in the same way as someone
with one album. Now, granted she has Fuji albums and
her contributions go beyond the one album, but they said
one album. Man, it was so impactful that all these

years later, those songs still hit, Like every one of
them songs still hit. And when she performed, because she
performed at the end, I think she did everything as
everything and one other what was she yes? And then
even that they just still hit. Everybody was up on
their feet. It was really a beautiful moment, man. Another
beautiful moment was Tianna Taylor all the Iconsana Taylor got

Icon of the Year and Janet Jackson gave it to her,
which was a surprise. It was really a surprise too,
because Tiana had no Tiana was a mess. She was
sureying to gather herself together, like she couldn't pull it
something other. Look at that baby, look at Gianna so
so pretty when she cries. I was trying to think

who would make me? When I was watching this, I
was like, Wow, she really loves Janet. She really this
is so meaningful to her. Even thoughay she was like
standing on the stage and watching Janet talk, you could
just tell and I just I was trying to think
who could honor me or be giving me an a water,
or who could be in front of me giving me
love and I would feel that. I was trying to

think who that would be? Mary Well, Mary's my friend.
That's for a different reason. It's not because I worship Heryan,
but I love her. That's because my friend. But I'm
saying she like worships Janet. Like, who's the person that
if they if they spoke on your accomplishments and they
and they called you great, would make you weep like

an infant.

I guess if Oprah Winfrey that's what I was gonna
say for you, maybe it would have to Maybe Oprah,
it depends what she said.

It would depend how much love with me. If it

had a really extraordinary moment. It was fun to watch

Tianna in that state. But she eventually she pulled it
together and eventually she said, you know, she felt like
she deserved this award in a way, she said, she
expects you know, she's grateful for it, but she been
working her whole life, and she has Hollywood thinks she's new,
but that b E T Awards audience, we all everybody

knows she ain't.

She been birth building this career and it hasn't been easy.
By the way, if you would love like to watch
the episode we did with her, it's definitely one of
our favorite episodes of Irl's. Britney still is still is,
but she really breaks down for us, like the mountains
that she had to climb, not just like career wise,

but emotionally career wise, like the hits that she took,
and then so many times she was told no, and
she talked to God about it like when, but she
just wanted it so bad. She wanted it so bad,
and it's really a beautiful episode.

She's gotten a couple awards this season, and she's actually
pretty good at the speech giving thing.

The one thing I love about Tiana is she's gonna

about her too. But she's my favorite thing though that
she said in the speech, and we could play that clip, Josh.

This is my favorite line from her because it just
shows her humility as a person, because you know, she's like,
this business could get wicked, but she says this because.

I believe greatness isn't measured by how many people stand
beneath you. It's measured about how many people stand beside

You could just tell speech sure, and you could just

Her mom was there? You know, her kids weren't there.

was a whole moment for her. Jenna Jackson giving her

full circle and she and she's living really in such
a great moment right now in her career, in her life,

That wasn't the only award she got that night too,
them she got like the Fashion Vanguard Award she got.
I think she got the director, the video Director, and
Best Actress.

we call her Tiana. Janet Jackson last night kept saying Teana,
what do you say? I've been calling I've been calling
her Tiana her whole life. So, yeah, Tiana. I probably

her that that long. So if I've been saying it wrong,
it's terrible. I've been calling her that's sweet sixteen. We
call her t too, Like yeah, anyway, that was a
beautiful moment. Congratulations to Tiana Taylor. Yes, she won for

Best New Artist was Olivia Dean. Album of the Year

was the Clips. Here's a funny thing the camera, So
Walle was in that category, right, and then the camera
kind of goes on walla while the clips were you know,
I was like, don't be messy, don't be messy cameraman
at the BT Awards, and that happened a couple There
was another moment when Kaylani won and you can see

Mariah the scientists kind of reacting that the problem is,
you don't know if they're reacting to something somebody said
next to them, if there's a delay. But if if
you're in the other category and your face even looks
remotely like like if you don't look like this, if
you look like anything else, you're gonna look like a hater.

You know what I'm saying. It's like a setup. So guys,
if you're ever, if you're ever nominated for an award
and somebody else wins, just hold this the whole time.
Don't ask it for the question. Don't shake it because
you can do this. Something's in your ear, you have

you while she's giving her speech and you're like, this

gotta be very careful. There was a couple of funny
moments like that at the BET Awards. I said, there's

That cameraman was was shape Boots because when Drew Ski
was roasting a lot of people throughout the night, but
one of the parts was he was doing the could
Have Been Records, his like skit that he does, and
he took it to the BET stage and the first
person that comes on was a gentleman who was rapping
and he seemed to have a yes and they were like,

they were like, I've never heard of a of a
of a gangster rapper with a BBL And the camera
goes to Lotto and the camera.

And goes he was laughing, Well why he went to
her cameraman right, Let me look at my phone, because
while I was watching last night, I was actually like, Oh,
I think we're doing a recap tomorrow. I want to
I want to mention.

I did love Duran redoing his Grammy's.

Saying that he's going to be on this week. Yeah,

what's so funny? I laughed in this episode that's getting

he gave me something else too. It was real hard

did the D'Angelo tribute he did. He also did that

You know who else? I have to yeah this week
and it drops Wednesday, Wednesday evening. Uh. Sylvia Rome so
Sylvia Rone was the other icon and she looked incredible.
She looks incredible. She's seventy four. I heard her say
she's been in the music business since she's for fifty
five years. I just looked up her title. They say

she's the first black woman to ever lead a major label,
and many other accolades. They were running down all of
the artists that she supported and the times that she supported.
Fun fact, Sylvia Rone also signed Angie Martinez to her
first record deal. You didn't know that. You never knew that. No, no,

we didn't he that give him her a deal at Elektra,
and that's a close and personal came out on Electro
record Sylvia Ron Simi herself. Sylvia was yeah, she was great.
She was a badass even then. I don't know how
many years ago that was. She was already like an
elite level you know, executive running a high level record

label back then. So the fact that she's been doing
for this for that long and then hearing like Missy
Elliott and Busta Rhymes talk about her, and if you
think about it too, that time, that whole Electra time
when they were spending millions of dollars on videos. You know,
that's that's a Sylvia own call. That's somebody who says, Okay,
let's do it. Let's invest this crazy rapper, bust the

rhymes and spend all this money on this video. And
and Missy Elliott and you know, she was making like
courageous decisions back then. And there's a laundry list of
artists whose careers she has her hands on. So she
deserved that. I thought it was sweet. She seemed a
little nervous to me last night, but in a good way,

Like I feel like the moment really meant something to her.
Her daughter was there in the audience, And we don't
talk about Sylvia enough, you know, for all the barriers
and the doors she's opened, and it was nice to
see her honored in that way last night. So congratulations
to Sylvia her own. That was another there was like
so there was like multiple Icon Awards. I guess one

was kind of the Year and then the Lauren won
Lauren Hill and Sylvia Roland. So those were great moments
last night. Shout out to the women. It was super loaded.

That's why I loved seeing all our girls out there,
Ivy Assy, you know, Lauren Lorosa Jazzy. Even during the
Lauren Hill tribute, everybody was singing and the camera went
to Ivy and I was like, dug at Ivy. She
was like singing on camera, you know, you know the
shots when you're in the audience and you're and you
performing and you don't even know. But she looked like

she was having a great time. So that was always
fun to say. Now that I know that she's signed you,
she's always good. In my book, I had no idea.

I had no idea that she signed the earliest rendition
of the Dusty Shop. When Kelly Rowland was up there
to present to Sylvia, I was like, what's Kelly doing
up there? And when she said that she was responsible
for that, I was like, wow, Sylvia is rap sheet
is absolutely nuts.

No, oh, it's crazy, you know, it's it's outrageous. Actually
she yeah, And for fifty five years, could you imagine
all the different ways that the music business has changed
and a black woman running these companies and you don't
really hear her name. You know, running a label is hard,

running a label. By nature, people are going to want
to be angry at you. Artists could, you know, Because
artists are always going to feel like they're not supported enough,
or they're not getting enough money, or they you know,
the artist the artist label relationship is always challenging. It always,
for forever, for all time. So the fact that this

woman has been running labels for that long and we
don't hear that much of that type of talk surrounding
her really says a lot. Didn't there what I'm saying,
Like anybody in a high level position like that, the
name gets tossed around. The artists get angry, they get
they notoriously always have problems with their label. And I'm

not saying she hasn't over the years, but I'm just
saying she's She's done a lot of good by a
lot of people, and it shows, and it was it
was nice to see her, you know, honored that way yesterday.
It's pretty great. And then I was going down memory later,
remember being sitting in her office. I had just signed
the label, my first deal, so she gave me my

first big check, first check that I and I went
and bought a car like a dumbass, my first BMW.
It was a BMW. It was a BMW. It was
a used BMW. It was a BMW. It was my first. Yeah,
it was my first. No lies, it was the Bends.
It was brand new. I was driving the used BMW

for my radio money like I was doing on the radio.
I was doing, Okay, I was you know, I got
my little car. I was hosting a lot of stuff
and I bought a used three twenty five BMW and
that was like my first nice car. But then when
I did the deal, I got my first big check.
And then I went, I got a new, brand new car,
a new Benz, which is so stupid, like never made

a big check in my whole life. And when I
say big, it's not like big you're good for life,
like big like you're good for right now. It can
set you up, you know, like that type of money.
And what did I do? I went and bought a
stupid car. But I owe it. I owe that to uh,
to Sylvia Roones. So if that's just my one little story,
could you imagine how many people's lives that she's impacted

throughout her career. So I just pulled up a list
of Sylvia Ron artists that she's either signed or developed.
You ready, First of all, Sylvia Ron became the first
black woman to lead a major record label and later
the first black woman to service both chair and CEO

over major label. And here's her list. It's so weird.
Angie Martinez is not on here. I don't know why
they forgot about me, but mister Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Tracy Chapman,
En Vogue, Brandy mc light, Disaffects a kN India Ari,
Erica Badu, Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, Future twenty one Savage,

DJ Kallen, French Montana shout out to French, who was
also at the awards last night. That was so nice
to see Megan Trainer giveon Tyler Metallica ac DC and
it goes on and on and on and on over
a fifty five year run. I think that's what she said,
fifty five years. I mean, this is a woman who

deserves an award. It's pretty great. Congratulations Sylvia Rome, for sure.
And that's just the artist when you think about like
as I remember Clark Kent, shout out to the rest
of peace of my brother, DJ Clark Kent. Clark had
told me I guess he was an A and R
for her at one point, and you know, he adored her,

and I'm sure there's a lot of music execs also
that have stories for days about the impact and the
influence and the checks and you know, just that good
sylvia own work. So shout out to her and congratulations again.
Love that moment. We didn't talk about Carty at all.
By the way, Carti B was out there with a

little red wig, jumping around looking happy. My favorite part
of that performance is right at the end. I was
just watching it. At the end, she just looked so happy,
you know, because Carti sometimes could get in her own
head and she gets nervous, and she notoriously like took
forever to put her album out because she was worried
about her always going to be received, and she just
she's honest about that. She gets nervous. So I think

I think the way she was received in that room
and the energy in there, I think she was so
happy that her performance went well. She just looked happy,
and I love I love to see that, So shout
out to Carti. But she did fly her awards, and
for the occasion, we're gonna show them. We have clips

and she indeed was petty. She brought out all of

whatever she puts out there, and well, this is why

I love whaten a BT Award represents to a lot
of times and many like artists are talents career, especially
for black people. BT is often the first major awards
show that acknowledges a talent. And I love the amount
and the caliber of people that show up to the

BET Awards because it just shows the appreciation for you know,
it's the only black entertainer, it's the biggest Black entertainment.

It's funny you say that, because that's I was thinking
about that with Tiana. It's like Tianna had a phenomenal year, right,
and she's at the Globes and the Oscars and she's
carpets and Hollywood everything, and she became this like Hollywood
star and angel, like next level Hollywood. It was just
it girl. But you know she comes home to be
Et and they give her an Icon Award. You know,

it's different. It's like you're not new to us, Like
I don't know. You just felt that, and you felt
it in Tiana's speech when she said, you know, at
first I was like, do I deserve Icon of the Year.
But then she was like, I've been working all the
twenty years or however long, and she did. She does.
She had a phenomenal year that everybody's been rooting for

her all along. We always know she's dope. We knew
she was dope in Fade. We knew she was dope
when she was signed to Pharrell. We knew she was
dope when she was doing videos and you know what
I'm saying, And just to watch the evolution and watch
her now, it was it was nice to see that,
but that is like to your point, b Et was like, no,
you're you're an icon to us. You know what I'm saying, Like,

you're not new to Yes, the icon of the year.
So I thought that was dope. But but yeah, to
to your point, there is like a.

Whole ju see our forever black President Obama send in
a special message. I was like, of course, this is
the platform that he would send in a message, you know,
to the audience of BT like yes, like.

Incredibly beloved. Oh I missed him so much. And also
they made Drewski the hostess. She and Jewski's point was
he was the youngest host ever the host to be
ET Awards. Kiki was like, it should have been her
this year. I thought that was a really funny moment
at the awards where Jewski was walking around with the
bike and she was like, this should have been me,

met should have made me the host, And then she
went on to introduce Cardi b. But she has so
much personality that anybody that she stands next to, she's
just bright. Kiky's personality is just gonna take over the
screen with whoever she's standing next to. So that was
a funny moment. But I thought Jewski handled it well too.
He just laughed and stepped to the back or she
(26:35):
did the announce. I think the thing, this thing that's
so dope about Jewski. He's always in on the joke,
even if he's the butt of the joke, he's like
in on the joke. And I thought he did a
great jold last night as the youngest host of the
BET Awards. I'm sure he wouldn't say that if he
didn't check. You don't go so hard like that, if
you didn't double check that that for that to be true.

He did great. I thought he did great. I like
him so much. I'm so happy for him. I think
he had a nice moment. You know, sometimes people you
don't it be the little moments where you see somebody's
humanity or I don't know, like when he brought out
Martin Lawrence and the crowd was like cool Martin Lawrence, yay,

And he was like hold on, like y'all this is
Martin mah, like this get up in the crowd. He
made the crowd stand up and rightfully so like Martin
has served, you know, Martin has delivered. He's an icon.
He was in our homes on the television for I
don't know, you know how long, but in a very

impactful way, and I don't know, it's just nice to
see him kind of and especially as a comedian, for
him to honor Martin in that way and demand that
he'd be honored by the audience in that way. I
thought was I don't know, just it was a nice
moment that showed how he carries his OG's in a way,
you know what I'm saying. I noticed little things like that.

I thought that was a dope moment, and I don't know,
it was so many I thought he did a great
job overall. So congratulations and shout out to Drew Ski.
I for sure believe that somebody in the BEET offices
was watching that moment with Kiki, and I wouldn't be
surprised if we had a Kiky host costing the BET
Awards next year, or Kiki and Drewski together would actually

be if they could afford it fun to watch. Also,
so all of that happened last night, and there's and
there's a ton more, but we enjoyed it. Shout out

the world. She did this to me. She did she
opened up, shed floodgated my DMS. I think it's really funny.
So that's been an ongoing joke of her and I
all week. But I love the episode. I hope you

our episode, she must have flew back to La did

a fitting and popped out on his brown silky number.
Look at Nia. That photo's great. But there's a video
of her where she's like walking in. She walks and

it's it's birth. But watching her step into the role
of like correspondent and be on the carpet and talking
to young Miami and you know, just everybody and looking
as fly as she did, I was like, Yo, she

is such a natural scene. She's so in her bag.
So shout out to Azzie doing a great job at
the BET Awards. Also shout out to Laura and l Rossa.
I saw her. She had on a really pretty outfit
and she was doing the carpet as well. And Ivy,
our girl, Ivy Rivera was out there hosting the BT Experience,
the Experience, Yes and Jazzy Jazzy's World. She was not

only there, but she got a BET Award. I don't
want to jack up the title of her award, but
it was basically like a young Person's Award and she
got it this year. And so I love to see
our people, our people in our world flourishing. So that
was really cool to see everybody out there doing their thing.
And then let's get to the show, because for sure,

one of the highlights of last night's be ET Awards
was the Lauren Hill tribute, which everybody and their mother
popped out for. Actually her kids even popped out for that.
But to me, it's really hard to say because there
were a lot of great pop outs. I mean, Doja
Cat and Nahas did if I Ruled the World, which
a NAS pop out always gets the people going, and

he always looks good and he's just he's just nas
Nas was just nasing and Lauren looked really happy watching it.
And we don't get to see Doja that much, especially
in something in a moment like that, and everybody just
loves and respects Lauren so much. You could tell by
the performances. Lizzo Thames don't let me forget anybody Rhapsody
Doci says A. He says a, yes, like, and you

could tell that they popped out. They didn't just pop
out because be Et was like, yo, dude, this Like
you could tell that there was love inserted into that tribute.
And on top of that, Queen Latifa popped out. Queen
Latifa don't be popping out rapping for people like she
you know what I mean, actual moment, but for a
lot of pop out and she popped out with Common,

which immediately gives you a nod to just write those
two together in that movie. But you forget, like, you know,
not only are they movie stars and these you know,
og talents, you forget like their first rappers, Like so
they killed the performance, like the actual performance was was great.

So yeah, I thought that was really special. Shout out
to Lawrence Hill.

Her kids coming on were so cute too, cute. Yeah, yeah,
and they're all so talented.

Something about them kids. Boy, once your kids just happen,
you can't be cool no more. Like she just she
was really happy to see that. So that was a
super highlight last night.

The fact that she only has one album too, and
it's still being celebrated.

All was talking about the last night. I was like, Yo,
you just never know. Somebody got ten albums and they're
just they're not revered in the same way as someone
with one album. Now, granted she has Fuji albums and
her contributions go beyond the one album, but they said
one album. Man, it was so impactful that all these

years later, those songs still hit, Like every one of
them songs still hit. And when she performed, because she
performed at the end, I think she did everything as
everything and one other what was she yes? And then
even that they just still hit. Everybody was up on
their feet. It was really a beautiful moment, man. Another
beautiful moment was Tianna Taylor all the Iconsana Taylor got

Icon of the Year and Janet Jackson gave it to her,
which was a surprise. It was really a surprise too,
because Tiana had no Tiana was a mess. She was
sureying to gather herself together, like she couldn't pull it
something other. Look at that baby, look at Gianna so
so pretty when she cries. I was trying to think

who would make me? When I was watching this, I
was like, Wow, she really loves Janet. She really this
is so meaningful to her. Even thoughay she was like
standing on the stage and watching Janet talk, you could
just tell and I just I was trying to think
who could honor me or be giving me an a water,
or who could be in front of me giving me
love and I would feel that. I was trying to

think who that would be? Mary Well, Mary's my friend.
That's for a different reason. It's not because I worship Heryan,
but I love her. That's because my friend. But I'm
saying she like worships Janet. Like, who's the person that
if they if they spoke on your accomplishments and they
and they called you great, would make you weep like

an infant.

I guess if Oprah Winfrey that's what I was gonna
say for you, maybe it would have to Maybe Oprah,
it depends what she said.

It would depend how much love with me. If it
was like she was reading it like a newscaster, I
think I could put myself together. But if she was
like a g led me to, I might I might
fall apart, I might be man down, I might be
I no, no, But she just I don't know. She
had a really extraordinary moment. It was fun to watch

Tianna in that state. But she eventually she pulled it
together and eventually she said, you know, she felt like
she deserved this award in a way, she said, she
expects you know, she's grateful for it, but she been
working her whole life, and she has Hollywood thinks she's new,
but that b E T Awards audience, we all everybody

knows she ain't.

She been birth building this career and it hasn't been easy.
By the way, if you would love like to watch
the episode we did with her, it's definitely one of
our favorite episodes of Irl's. Britney still is still is,
but she really breaks down for us, like the mountains
that she had to climb, not just like career wise,

but emotionally career wise, like the hits that she took,
and then so many times she was told no, and
she talked to God about it like when, but she
just wanted it so bad. She wanted it so bad,
and it's really a beautiful episode.

She's gotten a couple awards this season, and she's actually
pretty good at the speech giving thing.

She always number one.

The one thing I love about Tiana is she's gonna
thank God, and she's gonna thank him a lot every

the Lord his flowers. Okay, She's gonna thank Jesus all
throughout the thing. That's one of the things I love
about her too. But she's my favorite thing though that
she said in the speech, and we could play that clip, Josh.

This is my favorite line from her because it just
shows her humility as a person, because you know, she's like,
this business could get wicked, but she says this because.

I believe greatness isn't measured by how many people stand
beneath you. It's measured about how many people stand beside
you because you're willing to reach back. Oh, we love
her down, We love her down. That girl.

You could just tell speech sure, and you could just

Her mom was there? You know, her kids weren't there.
She shouted them out and the thing, but she's it
was a whole moment for her. Jenna Jackson giving her

full circle and she and she's living really in such
a great moment right now in her career, in her life,

That wasn't the only award she got that night too,
them she got like the Fashion Vanguard Award she got.
I think she got the director, the video Director, and
Best Actress.

what do you say? I've been calling I've been calling
her Tiana her whole life. So, yeah, Tiana. I probably

her that that long. So if I've been saying it wrong,
it's terrible. I've been calling her that's sweet sixteen. We
call her t too, Like yeah, anyway, that was a
beautiful moment. Congratulations to Tiana Taylor. Yes, she won for

Best New Artist was Olivia Dean. Album of the Year

was the Clips. Here's a funny thing the camera, So
Walle was in that category, right, and then the camera
kind of goes on walla while the clips were you know,
I was like, don't be messy, don't be messy cameraman
at the BT Awards, and that happened a couple There
was another moment when Kaylani won and you can see

Mariah the scientists kind of reacting that the problem is,
you don't know if they're reacting to something somebody said
next to them, if there's a delay. But if if
you're in the other category and your face even looks
remotely like like if you don't look like this, if
you look like anything else, you're gonna look like a hater.

You know what I'm saying. It's like a setup. So guys,
if you're ever, if you're ever nominated for an award
and somebody else wins, just hold this the whole time.
Don't ask it for the question. Don't shake it because
you can do this. Something's in your ear, you have
a scratch, Don't do that because if they go to
you while she's giving her speech and you're like, this

looks like a hater. You know what I'm saying, You
gotta be very careful. There was a couple of funny
moments like that at the BET Awards. I said, there's
always and maybe that's just me, that's just like the

was roasting a lot of people throughout the night, but
one of the parts was he was doing the could
Have Been Records, his like skit that he does, and
he took it to the BET stage and the first
person that comes on was a gentleman who was rapping
and he seemed to have a yes and they were like,

they were like, I've never heard of a of a
of a gangster rapper with a BBL And the camera
goes to Lotto and the camera.

And goes he was laughing, Well why he went to
her cameraman right, Let me look at my phone, because
while I was watching last night, I was actually like, Oh,
I think we're doing a recap tomorrow. I want to
I want to mention.

I did love Duran redoing his Grammy's.

Saying that he's going to be on this week. Yeah,

what's so funny? I laughed in this episode that's getting
ready to drop so much. But also I don't know,
he gave me something else too. It was real hard

did the D'Angelo tribute he did. He also did that

You know who else? I have to yeah this week
and it drops Wednesday, Wednesday evening. Uh. Sylvia Rome so
Sylvia Rone was the other icon and she looked incredible.
She looks incredible. She's seventy four. I heard her say
she's been in the music business since she's for fifty
five years. I just looked up her title. They say

she's the first black woman to ever lead a major label,
and many other accolades. They were running down all of
the artists that she supported and the times that she supported.
Fun fact, Sylvia Rone also signed Angie Martinez to her
first record deal. You didn't know that. You never knew that. No, no,

we didn't he that give him her a deal at Elektra,
and that's a close and personal came out on Electro
record Sylvia Ron Simi herself. Sylvia was yeah, she was great.
She was a badass even then. I don't know how
many years ago that was. She was already like an
elite level you know, executive running a high level record

label back then. So the fact that she's been doing
for this for that long and then hearing like Missy
Elliott and Busta Rhymes talk about her, and if you
think about it too, that time, that whole Electra time
when they were spending millions of dollars on videos. You know,
that's that's a Sylvia own call. That's somebody who says, Okay,
let's do it. Let's invest this crazy rapper, bust the

rhymes and spend all this money on this video. And
and Missy Elliott and you know, she was making like
courageous decisions back then. And there's a laundry list of
artists whose careers she has her hands on. So she
deserved that. I thought it was sweet. She seemed a
little nervous to me last night, but in a good way,

Like I feel like the moment really meant something to her.
Her daughter was there in the audience, And we don't
talk about Sylvia enough, you know, for all the barriers
and the doors she's opened, and it was nice to
see her honored in that way last night. So congratulations
to Sylvia her own. That was another there was like
so there was like multiple Icon Awards. I guess one

was kind of the Year and then the Lauren won
Lauren Hill and Sylvia Roland. So those were great moments
last night. Shout out to the women. It was super loaded.

It's the year of the of the girl I saw.

That's why I loved seeing all our girls out there,
Ivy Assy, you know, Lauren Lorosa Jazzy. Even during the
Lauren Hill tribute, everybody was singing and the camera went
to Ivy and I was like, dug at Ivy. She
was like singing on camera, you know, you know the
shots when you're in the audience and you're and you
performing and you don't even know. But she looked like

she was having a great time. So that was always
fun to say. Now that I know that she's signed you,
she's always good. In my book, I had no idea.

I had no idea that she signed the earliest rendition
of the Dusty Shop. When Kelly Rowland was up there
to present to Sylvia, I was like, what's Kelly doing
up there? And when she said that she was responsible
for that, I was like, wow, Sylvia is rap sheet
is absolutely nuts.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
No, oh, it's crazy, you know, it's it's outrageous. Actually
she yeah, And for fifty five years, could you imagine
all the different ways that the music business has changed
and a black woman running these companies and you don't
really hear her name. You know, running a label is hard,

running a label. By nature, people are going to want
to be angry at you. Artists could, you know, Because
artists are always going to feel like they're not supported enough,
or they're not getting enough money, or they you know,
the artist the artist label relationship is always challenging. It always,
for forever, for all time. So the fact that this

woman has been running labels for that long and we
don't hear that much of that type of talk surrounding
her really says a lot. Didn't there what I'm saying,
Like anybody in a high level position like that, the
name gets tossed around. The artists get angry, they get
they notoriously always have problems with their label. And I'm

not saying she hasn't over the years, but I'm just
saying she's She's done a lot of good by a
lot of people, and it shows, and it was it
was nice to see her, you know, honored that way yesterday.
It's pretty great. And then I was going down memory later,
remember being sitting in her office. I had just signed
the label, my first deal, so she gave me my

first big check, first check that I and I went
and bought a car like a dumbass, my first BMW.
It was a BMW. It was a BMW. It was
a used BMW. It was a BMW. It was my first. Yeah,
it was my first. No lies, it was the Bends.
It was brand new. I was driving the used BMW

for my radio money like I was doing on the radio.
I was doing, Okay, I was you know, I got
my little car. I was hosting a lot of stuff
and I bought a used three twenty five BMW and
that was like my first nice car. But then when
I did the deal, I got my first big check.
And then I went, I got a new, brand new car,
a new Benz, which is so stupid, like never made

a big check in my whole life. And when I
say big, it's not like big you're good for life,
like big like you're good for right now. It can
set you up, you know, like that type of money.
And what did I do? I went and bought a
stupid car. But I owe it. I owe that to uh,
to Sylvia Roones. So if that's just my one little story,
could you imagine how many people's lives that she's impacted

throughout her career. So I just pulled up a list
of Sylvia Ron artists that she's either signed or developed.
You ready, First of all, Sylvia Ron became the first
black woman to lead a major record label and later
the first black woman to service both chair and CEO

over major label. And here's her list. It's so weird.
Angie Martinez is not on here. I don't know why
they forgot about me, but mister Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Tracy Chapman,

DJ Kallen, French Montana shout out to French, who was
also at the awards last night. That was so nice
to see Megan Trainer giveon Tyler Metallica ac DC and
it goes on and on and on and on over
a fifty five year run. I think that's what she said,
fifty five years. I mean, this is a woman who

deserves an award. It's pretty great. Congratulations Sylvia Rome, for sure.
And that's just the artist when you think about like
as I remember Clark Kent, shout out to the rest
of peace of my brother, DJ Clark Kent. Clark had
told me I guess he was an A and R
for her at one point, and you know, he adored her,

and I'm sure there's a lot of music execs also
that have stories for days about the impact and the
influence and the checks and you know, just that good
sylvia own work. So shout out to her and congratulations again.
Love that moment. We didn't talk about Carty at all.
By the way, Carti B was out there with a

little red wig, jumping around looking happy. My favorite part
of that performance is right at the end. I was
just watching it. At the end, she just looked so happy,
you know, because Carti sometimes could get in her own
head and she gets nervous, and she notoriously like took
forever to put her album out because she was worried
about her always going to be received, and she just
she's honest about that. She gets nervous. So I think

I think the way she was received in that room
and the energy in there, I think she was so
happy that her performance went well. She just looked happy,
and I love I love to see that, So shout
out to Carti. But she did fly her awards, and
for the occasion, we're gonna show them. We have clips

I love whaten a BT Award represents to a lot
of times and many like artists are talents career, especially
for black people. BT is often the first major awards
show that acknowledges a talent. And I love the amount
and the caliber of people that show up to the

BET Awards because it just shows the appreciation for you know,
it's the only black entertainer, it's the biggest Black entertainment.

It's funny you say that, because that's I was thinking
about that with Tiana. It's like Tianna had a phenomenal year, right,
and she's at the Globes and the Oscars and she's
carpets and Hollywood everything, and she became this like Hollywood
star and angel, like next level Hollywood. It was just
it girl. But you know she comes home to be
Et and they give her an Icon Award. You know,

it's different. It's like you're not new to us, Like
I don't know. You just felt that, and you felt
it in Tiana's speech when she said, you know, at
first I was like, do I deserve Icon of the Year.
But then she was like, I've been working all the
twenty years or however long, and she did. She does.
She had a phenomenal year that everybody's been rooting for

her all along. We always know she's dope. We knew
she was dope in Fade. We knew she was dope
when she was signed to Pharrell. We knew she was
dope when she was doing videos and you know what
I'm saying, And just to watch the evolution and watch
her now, it was it was nice to see that,
but that is like to your point, b Et was like, no,
you're you're an icon to us. You know what I'm saying, Like,

you're not new to Yes, the icon of the year.
So I thought that was dope. But but yeah, to
to your point, there is like a.

Whole ju see our forever black President Obama send in
a special message. I was like, of course, this is
the platform that he would send in a message, you know,
to the audience of BT like yes, like.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
Incredibly beloved. Oh I missed him so much. And also
they made Drewski the hostess. She and Jewski's point was
he was the youngest host ever the host to be
ET Awards. Kiki was like, it should have been her
this year. I thought that was a really funny moment
at the awards where Jewski was walking around with the
bike and she was like, this should have been me,

met should have made me the host, And then she
went on to introduce Cardi b. But she has so
much personality that anybody that she stands next to, she's
just bright. Kiky's personality is just gonna take over the
screen with whoever she's standing next to. So that was
a funny moment. But I thought Jewski handled it well too.
He just laughed and stepped to the back or she
(26:35):
did the announce. I think the thing, this thing that's
so dope about Jewski. He's always in on the joke,
even if he's the butt of the joke, he's like
in on the joke. And I thought he did a
great jold last night as the youngest host of the
BET Awards. I'm sure he wouldn't say that if he
didn't check. You don't go so hard like that, if
you didn't double check that that for that to be true.

He did great. I thought he did great. I like
him so much. I'm so happy for him. I think
he had a nice moment. You know, sometimes people you
don't it be the little moments where you see somebody's
humanity or I don't know, like when he brought out
Martin Lawrence and the crowd was like cool Martin Lawrence, yay,

And he was like hold on, like y'all this is
Martin mah, like this get up in the crowd. He
made the crowd stand up and rightfully so like Martin
has served, you know, Martin has delivered. He's an icon.
He was in our homes on the television for I
don't know, you know how long, but in a very

impactful way, and I don't know, it's just nice to
see him kind of and especially as a comedian, for
him to honor Martin in that way and demand that

I for sure believe that somebody in the BEET offices
was watching that moment with Kiki, and I wouldn't be
surprised if we had a Kiky host costing the BET
Awards next year, or Kiki and Drewski together would actually

there's a ton more, but we enjoyed it. Shout out
