Speaker 1 (00:00):
What were you thinking of your eightieth birthday? They thought

(00:02):
I was surprised you were not. I knew about it,
honeyway before they thought I did chill. I know, but
I had to go along with it. I said, oh wow.
And when we opened the door and saw all of
those wonderful people, I said, oh, I'm so shocked. Thanks

(00:23):
for watching, guys.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Today's episode is brought to you by boost Mobile. So
I want to toast to you, to me and thank
you for inviting me and my crew into your home.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
You have a lovely crew, and you're my best friend
already already. I've known you for so long and I've
just admired you.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Really.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Yeah, girl, you gotta going off well.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I have admired you obviously for many years, and your
home feels as joyful and magnetic as you do.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Thank thank you so much, Thank you, honey.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
That is a wine, isn't it wine? What is that?

Speaker 1 (01:04):
I shouldn't give him a plug? I'm not. I'll tell
you though.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
It's an expensive one though, isn't it. That's right before
we start, because I could usually get very comfortable in
your home.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Took up my shoes already, had me a little patty
pie already, but I do want to do a proper intro.
Get some accolades going here so everybody can recognize the
presence that we're in today. Patti LaBelle is an undeniable
music legend whose career spans over six decades with classics
like Lady Marmalade on My Own, If only you knew.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
She's a Grammy winner, a Billboard chart topper.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
She has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame,
the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I mean this honestly, this could take all day and
half the show.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
She's a phenomenal cook, like everybody knows, she has a
track record of cooking for some of the music's industries
best legends. They have been raving about her meals for years,
and that eventually led to the founding of her own
food brand.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Her food company is undeniably successful.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
She has a heart as good as her voice and
an energy that is just unmatched. The legendary Catti Labella
is our guest today on IRE. When you think about
some of those things, what do they mean to you?

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Are they important to you? Like when you think of accolades,
and all those awards and those moments and those.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
I think it's a blessing. I don't take anything for granted. Yeah,
And so when I'm being honored, and I just hope
I say the right speech when I receive the award,
you want to say something good, something good, and something meaningful.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
But it's crazy because even when you come in your house,
all of this there's so much like memorabilia here. Like
you clearly it means something like your your history, your career,
your impact. I feel like you take the time to
be surrounded by it and look at it and enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
I do. I sometimes look at some of the awards
that I've gotten, in some of the letters from certain
presidents and especially Obama, I look at what I have achieved,
and how many people I think like me, love you,
love me, And you know, you can never ever say

(03:11):
enough about that. It's just always an honor and a
pleasure to know that somebody cares. I don't take it
for granted. Never. Sometimes I think it's like outrageous to
certain people. They might say I'm too loud, too big,
too just wrong. You know a lot of people think
that you know that these people, some people that I

(03:34):
won't name anyway. Girl, Listen, I have all my life,
I have been big in voice and never holding back.
And even as a kid like young, no, Young, I
was very shy. I didn't do anything. I played with
my cat called him skippy. He committed suicide because I
will put nail polish on his little top feet. And

(03:57):
he ran away one day, but I know he wanted
and the shore close to my house. He committed suicide,
and I had butterflies. I was a very lonely child.
No friends, really, cats and butterflies.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yes, that is not what I would have expected.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Oh and I would go in the garage and make
hot sauce. I would use ketchup. Yeah that I did
start cooking in my younger years. And I've been just
a shy girl, and I'm still kind of shy.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
That's not it can't be possible.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Because I see you on that stage, well that's what
you see stage Patty, and then here is Patty with you.
I'm very like, I was very nervous to do this
interview with you. Are you kidding me? Girl? I'm serious
because you're big, No, and I'm big, I know, but
I still admire you and that brings off a little

(04:52):
bit of nervous patty to you see me. When I
saw you in the kitchen, I was it's real, and
it's because you're so special. Thank you. And I meet
special people and I'll let them know I think they're special.
Don't hold back.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
I love that. That's so surprising to me. It's so amazing.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Does it ever change that, like inner kind of I
don't know, shyness or will you question yourself or you.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
I still question certain things about me. At eighty one,
I still asked, well, what do you think about that?
What do you think about this? And if it's something
I don't want to hear, I just don't talk to
them anymore. I just figured it out all my own,
figure out your own. No, but I every year that
I've been on this planet, I've been whoever I ended

(05:44):
up being. At the end of that year. She was cool,
she was good. She was the one that I have
to be because I couldn't pretend that she didn't exist.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
We just had. We had Jill Scott on the podcast recently.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Your Phil spend a lot of time with her when
we can. Okay, yeah, yeah, you know, but we don't
get tim She is always on tour, and I'm always
on tour.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
The reason I brought her up is because we just
interviewed her and she had this theory about age and women,
and I'm curious your take on it. She said, Jill
Scott thing of life for women? She said, you work
hard in your twenties, you work smart in your thirties,
you work how you want to in your forties, you
work when you want to in your fifties, and you
work if you want to in your sixties, which I

(06:30):
thought was good and people really related to that. But
then she stopped because she doesn't have.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
The perspective seventies and eighties. What happens? You still do
what you did in your fifties. I do really? Oh yeah,
so you there's no shift? But do you does that
any of that ring true to you? That some of
the some of the things you know. But it's like
I've been whoever I am now that I wasn't twenty.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Really, I know I know it. Are you the same?

Speaker 1 (06:58):
I'm the same, boring girl.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
You're not making the same mistakes though.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
No, that I won't. I won't make any more, no more,
no more, no more drama. None.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
You're not making the same asation in your forties.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Well, maybe I still have little pieces of some of
my thirties and forties in my eighties, I do, uh,
And it's nothing that's going to hurt me, you know. I,
Like I said, I'm blessed to be in this place
of where I am at eighty. I'm still walking talking,

(07:33):
thinking the way I did in thirties and forties.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Having a business, a successful business. Yeah, It's like I.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Never really thought at eighty I would really still be
standing on stage singing.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Really.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yeah, I'm amazed at my stamina. I'm amazed at my
still having an audience. I'm amazed that I haven't had
a or an album in twenty twenty two years at
R and B album. I've had jazz and gospel, but

(08:06):
I'm working on the R and B album. I'm saying, God,
it has been a long time since that happened. And
like I said, I'm still saying, girl, you're blessed because
people don't even buy music from eighty year old chicks.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yeah, They're gonna buy yours, though, I hope.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
So, because I'm gonna give them something they can feel.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
For sure.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Yeah, what were you thinking of your eightieth birthday because
I saw some of the photos and videos and I
first of all, they thought I was surprised, you were not.
I knew about it, honeyway before they thought I did,
telling me that we're going to a meeting with Walmart.
Now I had this beautiful zang toy dress on now
and all these leans on my.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Your eightieth birthday, eightieth bird?

Speaker 1 (08:52):
What are we going to a meeting with Walmart for
me looking like this?

Speaker 3 (08:56):
So you're paying along?

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Yeah, And they still thought they got me when we
went to the back of this restaurant. We pulled in
where no people were and all that stupid stuff. Child,
I knew, but I had to go along with it.
I said, oh wow. And when we opened the door
and saw all of those wonderful people, I said, I'm
so shocked.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
There for me a little bit. So take me into
the party.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Gosh, Gail King, I think, whoope. It was so many
entertainers there, and so many like my mailman was there.
Your man from Philadelphia came to New York to the party.
He was invited, They were invited, and just everybody, everybody,

(09:48):
my niece was there, Oh, Stacy. The day is Stacy's birthday.
May eighteen. Happy Birthday, Stacy. Yeah, she was there. All
of my I don't have many family members left, but
the ones that I have, they were all there. It
was just fun, my band, my background singers, just.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
That's so beautiful.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
It was a beautiful party.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
What is that?

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Like you said, I don't have that many family members
because my mom's always talking about that. My mom is
in her seventies. She's always like, she's the oldest. Now
oh she's the you know, so she lost she lost yeah, yeah,
so now she's the oldest. She has three younger so
she's still you know, she has siblings still, but she
is like becoming the matriarch.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
And I think I think, uh, it's tricky, Like why
did you say that?

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Because I think.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
It's scary for some people, Like I don't know that
she's all the way leaning into it, Yain.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
I want her to because it's like because she's young
and vibrant, and she does stuff and she travels and
she's got a great life.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
It's nothing that's great. It's just age in your head.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
People who think they turn all after fifty. You were
as old as you make yourself. It's like seventy three.
I was doing Dance with the Stars, the Masked Singer
and all that kind of stuff, and a lot of
people would see me at the airport. Patty, You've given
me courage, I said, how by seeing you on Dancing

(12:17):
with the Stars and stuff, and you're in your seventies
and I am. But I'm afraid to take chances. I said,
that's the problem. People are afraid to take chances after
a certain age. I'm going to take them until I
take my last step. They're I have to Yes, where
does that come from? Like?

Speaker 3 (12:34):
What did you? Did somebody teach you that? Did you
have to learn it?

Speaker 1 (12:38):
I think I was taught by my mother and my father.
They were go getters. I was laid back, but you know,
I'm still I had this talent and somehow it had
to come out. And so that's when I'm not shy.
That talent comes out. But I am still a shy woman.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
This is not what I expect. I know, I'm so fascinated.
That's why we're gonna get you some wine.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yea. I swick Hey, everybody, thank you for looking and listening.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Hasy early birthday.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Thank you Darling Swig.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
So delicious.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Through some of these moments in your life, some of
these songs, Oh wow, because you know this is in
real life. We like to learn the real lessons I
would need to learn some of the real lessons behind
some of these some of these classic Patty LaBelle songs come.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
On so on my own.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yes, I hear that song now in twenty twenty six,
and I think, men, there's women sitting in their house today.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
What year did you make that song?

Speaker 1 (13:46):
I don't know a lot. I remember years.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
I'm like that too. I can never remember years.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
It must have been about twenty years ago. No, maybe more,
maybe girl, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Anybody know in the house on my own my only.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Oh it was in the eighties, Batty, Okay, it was
forty years ago. Wow, So you whoa go ahead make
a song forty years ago called on my own? Oh
I love that song such you still love it?

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (14:23):
How could you not? Right when you hear that song
in twenties. I was looking at.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
It's like I thought everything was going to be okay,
you know, like and then it's not, and then here
I am on my own.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
That's the way it again.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Sometimes, yes, And what is the lesson in that? I
guess the lesson is if you're lucky enough to be
together and say together, that's a blessing. I mean, I
was married for thirty five years to my wonderful husband,
but we couldn't see to eye after a time, so
I became solo and he became so low. But I'm

(15:01):
on my own without him. But I'm doing well and
so is he. So that makes you feel good when
you're partner that you leave or whatever breakup happens, that
they're still doing well. So you pray that that person
still has a good life.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
That's the way I think, Well, you did it well then,
because the breakups are not easy for a lot of people.
They're not.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
And we're recording together, so we still see each other,
you know, we work together still, Yes, all these years,
all these years.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
It's still friendship and love and family, right, it's still family.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
I mean we gave birth to a wonderful son. He
didn't I did right, he didn't do that. Hey, baby,
you're looking for mommy. So yeah, we're still friends. That's beautiful.
But that's life, it is, right, m hm. Yes, it's

(15:58):
hard for a lot of women, though it was it
hard for you at that time? No, even in the time. No,
it's one thing to reflect on the years later.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Like, Okay, I got through that and it was you know,
blah blah blah. But when you're in the throws, big
changes in life like that.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
We knew we had to split, so it wasn't hard.
It was ineverable. We knew that we couldn't be together
as married, but as friends.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
Yes, and then never a desire to do it again. No, No,
you're okay with that, Honey.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I'm eighty one, I'm getting married. You never know I
would look good? Yeah, you would be student, still be
a fly, Brian, right, But I'm living my life like
it's platinum.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Yes, if only you knew, if only.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
You knew how much I I'm crazy about you. I mean,
that's the song that you're very much in love and
you don't know if he knows it or not.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
It's just the.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Lyrics of it, like you can't even inspect you probably
could care less about the changes that I've been going through.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Because I love you so and you don't even know.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
You don't even know what I'm sitting here. You could
be in a whole marriage, your whole relationship. You could
be dating somebody, but however long and the other person
can have no idea, They don't have a clue what
is going on inside inside.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
It's true, I mean, and so many people live that life,
you know, and I've never lived that life.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
But you never have no not like that, you say,
Have you always said what I always say?

Speaker 1 (17:46):
What's on my heart? You know, I'm not going to
have anybody guessing smart, and I'm gonna not keep it
to myself. If only you knew. Sometimes women can get
in their own heads. Oh yes, so we can do that,
So we don't say it all the time. Yeah, punks,
messed up for yourself. Girls say it, say it, talk

(18:08):
about it?

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Does everybody say it?

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Lady Marmalade, So the open Hey, sister, ghos, sister, soul sister,
ghost sister.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
What is a soul sister? What is the meaning of
a soul sister? To you?

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Well, in this particular song, well, she's a hooker and
Vuli way means will you sleep with me tonight? When
we recorded the song, we had no clue what it
was about until the Sun came out and was selling
and doing really well, and we got some complaints from nuns.

(18:49):
Nuns were having a moment with Patty LaBelle and the
Bluebells singing no LaBelle. That's when we were at LaBelle
singing about ladies of the Evening and I would just say, well,
they have to make a living too, you know, I
can't snatch the mattress from them. They gotta they gotta
do what they gotta do. And that was a hit,
not knowing it was about a hooker.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
And that's what a soul sister is. What is the
soul sister.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
No soul sister is not a hooker. No soul sister
is just us. We're soul sisters. Yeah, I'm in and
she was doing some business.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
I feel like you are a soul sister too.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
I sure am. I am a soul sister.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
What does that mean to you?

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Though?

Speaker 3 (19:29):
Like it means it's a it's like.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
A graduation because when you're a baby, you're a little girl,
and as you grow up and to whatever you're going
to do you become a soul soul soul sister. I mean,
I'm a soul sister because I I do soul things,
soulful things, And there're gonna be a white soul sister too.

(19:52):
You don't have to be black to be a soul sister.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
So I just consider myself a soul sister, but not
a hooker.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
I would know some people might get it twisted, you know,
but that's that's what it is to me. That's beautiful.
The soul sister.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Yeah, soul sisters are good.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
And from your soul. It's probably why you connect with
so many women.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
I sure do.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Of course, somebody loves your baby, it's one of my favorites.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
But it's interesting because you you're like deeply in love.
If somebody loves your baby. You said you can make
a slave out of I mean.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
Now you know that's a lie, but that was the lyric. Okay,
Bunny Siegler wrote that one. You put that line, and
I said, I'm gonna say it, I'm gonna sing it,
but you can never make a slave out of me.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
I worship you, oh yeah, and nobody else.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
I give my heart to you, forever and ever, and ever. Yes,
that's a deep love song.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
You sing like you mean that they do you do mean?

Speaker 1 (21:08):
I do mean it? Yes, somebody that somebody is.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Me, somebody loves your baby all the way live. Yes,
But I don't know.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
I think now, especially like women are so like independent
and don't want to.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
Like worshiping your man, that kind of notion of of being.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
So it's like giving you all to a man. Yeah,
I'm not that girl.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
You're not.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
No, no, unless it's really deep deep love.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
You felt that though before in your life?

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Yeah? Oh HIPI yeah, I'm only human. Yes, But some
of the lyrics and certain songs, like I said, I
didn't write it, but I'll be a slave for you.
No way will ever be that for anybody.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
You could probably sing anything. Huh.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Well, I try. I try to with meaning and with
understanding that it's a song, you know, like I said, Lady,
ormalate is a song. I'm not that girl. You know
a lot of songs are beautiful and they're written and
some of the lines you just say, God what I

(22:21):
really say that in certain songs. But I've been blessed
to have songs that I can say every line. What
are you most proud of in your career. My career, Well,
it's not my career but my life. I'm most proud
of my son. He's better than a grammy.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
How did being a mom change you? Though?

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Like I never thought I would ever have a child.
Why because I was into my animals, my cats and dogs.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
You're about to be a cat.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
A cat woman. No, I just really never thought of
becoming pregnant. And the story is which I know, Zuria,
I don't like to hear. But my friend Laura Neiro,
a great performer. She took us to Japan, me and
mine husband, and sorry, was made in Japan.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
He hates that. You don't want to know. You don't
want to know about that.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
I know, but he was made in Japan. And the
best gift that I could could have gotten was given
birth to him. Yeah, has changed?

Speaker 3 (23:31):
So what ships you have a baby even on your own, your.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Patty bell already you're already Patty LaBelle right when you
had him, you already have a successful career.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Here's the deal.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
And I couldn't take care of him. So I had
a great husband and a great he had a great
sister who took him. I'm married, would take him everywhere
and they took care of him when I was, you know,
on the road, which was a lot. We stayed on
the road, and when I would come home, I would

(24:01):
try to buy him things and he said, I don't
need any new shoes, mom, I don't need pants. And
he would go in the truck. If a limo came
from me, he would go on the baggage truck. He
would not ride in that limo. And today he still
doesn't tell people he's my son when we're doing business.
When he's doing business and they find out later because

(24:22):
the promoter might come in the dress room after the
show to say thank you, Missa Bell, and I always say, oh,
this is Zori. He said, Zori my son. He said,
you're her son. See, he never lets people know that, right.
He doesn't go around I'm Patti Labell's son. Never will

(24:43):
you hear that from him? Well, yeah, so he's just
cool and he's here now and I know he's listening.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
Yeah, I want to talk to you about that too.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
We'll get back to that too, because I know you're
doing such great business together.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Oh yes, me and him and Charles and Alex.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Oh, oh, break the buffet over there, you okay?

Speaker 1 (25:09):
No breaks on Broadway.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
Look at me, I'm already like you're I'm blowing past
your patty. Come on now, come on, now, what's on
your spirit these days?

Speaker 3 (25:19):
Like, what's your What season is this for you?

Speaker 1 (25:21):
It's a good season until I look at TV and
see the world and that's well, it's so bad right now,
you do. So I pray a lot for me and
for those who are going through. And we're all going through.
So that's on my spirit. It's scary, it's unpredictable, and

(25:49):
it's gosh, some of the things I can't say. But
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
Of course, yes, yeah, of course. How do you How
do you find peace for yourself in it? Because you can't.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
You still have to have joy.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Yeah. I find joy in cooking and cleaning and doing
what I do, watching TV. I'll take that remote and
I click all day.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
I do.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
I mean, that's what I do. I don't. I don't
really like party. Oh I play cards. We have card
games on the weekend.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
That's a good time. What do you play?

Speaker 1 (26:28):
We play ac Deocy? Oh ay dude, yes, well you
can come through some of our games and we play
pity pat.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
I don't know, but I learned real fast.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Oh, I'll teach you. It's so much fun because we
have like maybe ten or fifteen people on the weekend.
Sometimes I cook, sometimes they'll all bring something anyway, and
that's so much fun. When I win, it's more fun, girl.
But when I lose, I say, I'll see you guys later.
I'm gonna go watch Netflix. It's so mad, right, I

(27:03):
am competitive? Yes, So that's really And we play cards
on the road, me and my glam squad.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
So that's how you keep some joy and keep some balance,
not get too sucked into like.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Oh, we keep yes, And of course we all know
we're thinking the same things about what a bad place
the world is. And at the at this moment, do
you ever recall it being like this? Never even close

(27:36):
to it? Or no, I don't think so. I mean
it could have been close, but it's never been like this.
This is all the way deep. It's just scary.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
So when you pray for it, what do you what
do you ask for?

Speaker 1 (27:51):
I asked for peace, and I asked for kids not
to be hungry. You see those commercials where they're starving
or somebody's beating the animal, and animals all beat up
and stuff. I just wish that we could be nicer,
kind and kind in this world. That would help a lot. Yeah,
get on the elevator. Nobody speaks. When we get on

(28:14):
the elevator. I speak to everybody. Yeah you have to.
Let's just we're frightened.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
What are the other things that people should do to
be have a kinder or joyful, bright world?

Speaker 1 (28:27):
I would say, just acknowledge everyone, like nobody's not a
person that shouldn't be acknowledged. We're all somebody. And when
I see people just ignoring people who have less than them,
that bothers me. Cuddles is licking my ankle. He's over here,

(28:48):
Yes he is. I have on lotion and he loves
this lotion. Patti, you got a good son, Thanks girl,
And all of those kind of things. When you don't
speak to your garbage men, when you don't speak to people,
when you think you're better than someone else, it's so
many ugly things that we look at and see people

(29:10):
go through that's so unnecessary.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
Have you ever had to self correct something about yourself
that you didn't like and you had to change?

Speaker 1 (29:18):
I bet I have. Oh, let me see, Yeah that
I speak too much to everybody you like, so anybody's nice. Yeah,
And I get in that trap where I think everybody's
wonderful and I give everybody a second chance. And sometimes
I wish I would not have because some of it

(29:40):
got me in trouble. Yes, but that's who I am.
Mislove a lot.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
You give people too many chances.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
I do.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
Oh what Yeah, Oh, I have about ten people with
me who should have been gone. But it's hard for
me to say bye. And you've never so correct that,
you've never changed. You just stayed just like, stayed the
same to a fault. But that's my heart and I

(30:10):
just let people stay.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
What is that?

Speaker 3 (30:15):
It's crazy, That's really what it is. It's like, it's grazy.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Don't you love yourself a little more than that? And
I think I do hurt feelings? Huhn't you're compassionate? Oh,
I'm very like I said to a fault. Yeah, yes,
I'm a girl.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
I'm so that girl.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
I know you are.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
Well, That's why I'm interested in you saying that, because
I'm in a place in my life where I feel
like I'll give you a little history. Right, Like, So,
my father was not in my life, right, I thought
he was dead my whole life drugs. I found out
a couple of years, a few years ago that he
was still alive. But my whole life, I thought this
man's trung. I wasn't mad at my father for not

(30:59):
being in my life. I thought he just had a
drug problem and he disappeared whenever. Then I found out
he was alive, like not that many years ago. And
so but doing that made me have it made me
have compassion for everybody. Oh he's not a bad person,
he just has a problem.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
Or she's not she's not mean, she's just she wasn't
treated right. She's going through I just die right, He's
going to give her a break. But I learned that
from being a kid making excuses for a parent. That's
how you learn that, right, that's learned behavior. So then
as my life, as I'm getting older, I'm starting to.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Feel like maybe why, I don't know if I want
to do that so much. I want to be still.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
I still want to be like you and still have
my I want to hold onto my compassion, but I
want to learn how to have some better discernment so
that I know that's hard.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
It's hard when you're the way you are period that's
you A giver.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
A yeah, but is there no way to that.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
You're making me scared right now because you're making me
feel like I'm always going to be like this.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
You are I am, and that's not going to hurt you.
I mean that's the way you're used to being and
I'm used to being this way, so I know I'm
not going to change at my age. I'm going to
still be that person will give you fifteen chances.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
I just do you have no regrets about that?

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Yes? I do, but I can't change. So that's it.
I'm that person that can walk over me sometimes because
I'm not going to hurt you. But you are not stupid, really,
that's what it is. But don't call me stupid though.
But I'm a little special.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
We're all a little special, yes we are, and we're
all trying to figure it out still.

Speaker 1 (32:47):
Like I know I am. But I'm going to be
this girl probably until Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
Yes, do you beat yourself up? Are you like it?
Or no?

Speaker 1 (32:56):
I do?

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Because that does that get easier?

Speaker 1 (32:59):
I know, I keep I fought myself yesterday big time
for what I can't tell you. Okay, but you did
something I did something that was just not in my favor,
but I did it. You know, it was just something.
But after I did it, and after today, just thinking

(33:19):
about what I did, I said, well, that's just who
you are. You're never gonna change, so it's given.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
It's just like coming to terms with certain things and
who you are and being at peace with it.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
And I do.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
And then after I think about it, I think that
I'm a little more blessed than they are. So let
me continue to give and just beat myself up later.
But I can't stop geting.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
That's so funny.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
You know, today I was on the plane and I
don't usually repost things like this, but you're saying this,
and I posted something today.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
What did you say?

Speaker 3 (33:56):
It was a meme and I felt it, And what
you're saying is like the same thing. It's it's uh,
what you give, this is for you, then, Patty, maybe
that's why I posted it.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Maybe it was for you.

Speaker 3 (34:08):
What we give doesn't always return, but what we give
is always what we are. True, it's just what we
ask what we are.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
That's and I know you're the same way. You're not
going to change, and that's not a great thing to change.
I mean, you're the way you are. You've been comfortable
in your life the way you are as a giver. Yeah,
that's who you are. Bills aren't ever going to change.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Don't you think people can change? Though, Patty? Do you
think it's I.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Think people can change, but I can't.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
But you can't get that. There's nothing you've changed in
your life. I don't believe that.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Oh yeah, there have been things, but it's hard for
me to change what I'm feeling for certain people now,
as far as me saying I'm finished, it's just so hard. Yeah. So,
I I think people call me Patty the forgiver.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
That's but that's also probably why you're so blesseding why
people love you so much.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
I just love loving on people.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
I just do people feel that too.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
Yeah, Zori is that way too.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
He likes loving on people too.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Yes, he don't think I know it, but I knowin sight.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Right, here's a masculine version of that.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Really, he's that person, and I.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Love that he is.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
I'm gonna take you back real quick and then we'll
wind up towards the MLA. When did you realize that
you were special? Like?

Speaker 3 (35:33):
When did you realize?

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Man?

Speaker 3 (35:36):
I got this? Like, hmmm, this is gonna be something.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
Wow. I guess after I recorded Somewhere Over the Rainbow,
I started feeling really great about myself, and the way
people responded to it just made me feel wonderful.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Did you not grow up with that feeling?

Speaker 2 (36:03):
Because I always hear people who have careers like yours
and gifts like yours that they always had this sense of,
like this purpose that they were going to be.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
I never thought that. No, I never thought it would be.
I thought I would be a chef, That's what I
really thought it would be, but not a big, big entertainer.
And the reason I feel that way with Rainbow is
that it was everyone's favorite of my singing my way,

(36:33):
and whenever I would do TV shows or big shows
or like a b T Award or the not Grimmys
because they didn't have me there. But whenever I would
do that song, I would get such an ovation. And
that's the first time I felt like, oh girl, you
got it.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
And then how did you receive that?

Speaker 1 (36:52):
I needed? I need applause?

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Really? Oh yeah, where does that come from?

Speaker 2 (36:58):
For me?

Speaker 1 (37:01):
It just comes from me. I don't know what it is.
You always have validation, you need attention, like, well, I
was so shy. I probably, like I said, I have
cats and butterflies. I don't nobody do that. I need applause.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
Are you addicted to it? Do you think a little bit? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (37:18):
I am. When you put your heart in to anything
you do and you get a great response, that feels
like great, it feels great?

Speaker 3 (37:29):
Are there ups and downs in that? Though?

Speaker 2 (37:30):
Because we're all chasing something, I'm always trying to figure out.
Like I always stop myself and ask myself, like what
are you chasing? Why are you working so hard?

Speaker 3 (37:38):
Like what do you want? What is the end goal here?
Like what do you beating yourself up?

Speaker 2 (37:42):
Because I want to make sure I want to be
intentional about that. So when you have a career like yours,
like are you thinking that way?

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Like are you chasing something or are you just in it?

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Are you chasing? I am just always going to do it,
But I'm not chasing anything. If the standing of comes, fine,
if it doesn't, I'm still in it.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
You're still in it.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
So if it doesn't come, you're not sad. It's not
like a low no, really, because there been times when
there wasn't a standing ovation didn't bother me because I
knew I'd give it my best, but it's like a
challenge for you, like a well, I don't know, what
do you think?

Speaker 2 (38:22):
I think you probably you're a giver and so when
they stand up, you feel like you've served them. True,
this is my guess from my conversation with you. I
feel like that's probably like.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
You're a giver. You feed people, you love on people.
I think.

Speaker 2 (38:41):
So when you see people standing in ovation, you know
they're moved, They're moved to a level of you've served
them in some.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Type of way.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, so it just makes me feel great to see it.
And if I don't, I still feel great. You do, Yeah,
when do you ever not? Because you always seem a child.
There have been times when I couldn't sing, when my
voice was just not there, and I got scared. You know,
I said, what is this? It was life? And it

(39:11):
was because I worked so hard and sometimes you work
your voice away and I had sang my voice away
and it happened for a few months.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
Then you got it back.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
I got it back, thank god. Yeah. I was petrified.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
That must have been terrible. It was bad. Do people
know that?

Speaker 2 (39:30):
Is that?

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Like a non policing the audience. They knew, they knew, Yes,
they knew. And I was always told you sound great.
I know when I don't sound great.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
Huh. That's so interesting because you think somebody has a
gift and it's just always there.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Oh honey, it leaves when it wants to, and you
can't pray for it back. You can't do anything but say, Lord,
just what happened? And you don't know, And of course
you go to throat doctors and folk coaches and all
that stuff, and they can't bring it back, you know,
so you you're blessed to get it back.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Yes, you think of it as a gift, right, like, oh,
it is a gift, yeah, yes, and you take care
of it.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
I'm sure I do.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
I don't smoke, I have occasional wine. I don't drink
hard like. I don't do drugs. I don't do anything
but have this wine and water what I wanted.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
I mean, it's pretty good. It's pretty good, very good.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Hey, guys. You ever sign up for a phone plan
thinking wow, what a great price, and then a few

Speaker 3 (41:18):
We have a little segment call our Voice Note section.
It's usually a friend or a family, a friend of
the pod who knows you're on. So today I chose
my mother because I was coming in. I was telling
her I was here. She was so excited I was,
and we were talking about you. So she sent my
voice her voice note today and she actually had a

(41:40):
little question for you.

Speaker 1 (41:42):
That's what is from my mother.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
Name is Shirley. You'll meet her at some point wonder
my mother has a question, so she could asked Patty.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
Okay, all right, so what is the question?

Speaker 3 (41:56):
If you could ask? All right? So if you get
asked Patty a question, Patty is eighty two. I just
can't believe it.

Speaker 4 (42:03):
I mean, how does she manage to say so joyful
and exuberant.

Speaker 2 (42:09):
That way?

Speaker 1 (42:10):
Right?

Speaker 2 (42:10):
She has been like that since she's been in existence?

Speaker 3 (42:13):
Oh no, I can't remember ever seeing her otherwise. That
was her question, how do you stay? Oh, Shirley?

Speaker 2 (42:23):
Yeah's her birthday July twenty eight years of Leo. Okay, hey, Shirley,
I said, you're xuberant and joyful too.

Speaker 3 (42:30):
She was like from all the time.

Speaker 1 (42:31):
Pata did not all the time, but most of the time.
I mean, I am I. I always say to myself
at eighty two, why are you still like you were
when you were forty?

Speaker 3 (42:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (42:48):
What is that?

Speaker 3 (42:48):
You have to give us the key to that? Patty?

Speaker 1 (42:50):
You have no clue what it is?

Speaker 5 (42:52):
Come on, what do you think it is? I think
it's God. I know it's God. I mean, all my
sisters died at forty before they turned forty five, and
I'm still standing, and it is because of God. I

(43:12):
don't go to church or anything like that. But it's
in my heart. I go to church in my home
with myself. I don't need a minister.

Speaker 3 (43:23):
You pray a lot.

Speaker 1 (43:24):
I pray a whole lot. Yes, And let me get
through a show at ninety minute show and my voice
was funny before I went on, but during that show
it came back stuff like that. And I say, after
that show, girl, you are truly blessed. Sounded like a
frog for a minute, and then pull it together. Then

(43:45):
something good came out. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:46):
So there's no like routines or rituals. It's just prayer
and it's just what it is.

Speaker 1 (43:54):
Yeah. And I let us know that I'm blessed surely,
and you are two girlfriends.

Speaker 3 (44:01):
Yes, yes, lean into that.

Speaker 1 (44:04):
She has to.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (44:06):
I mean, like I said, I'm here.

Speaker 3 (44:08):
I do think there's a difference. Everybody says I'm blessed.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
There's a difference in saying those words because it's like, oh,
what a blessing, But literally waking up every day and
feeling it and operating in it and acknowledging it is different.
You just carry it different when you live your life
that way versus something you say all the time.

Speaker 3 (44:32):
And I feel like that's probably the.

Speaker 1 (44:34):
Reading my life this way. It's like I said, I
have a lot of faults, a lot of down moments.
But when I can get up in the morning, I
always say, he woke me up this morning. And now
with this twenty four hours that I'm blessed with, depending
on what time I wake up, I'm going to do

(44:55):
the best I can with it with the time that
I have. Like I said, my sisters didn't have as
much time as I've been given. I've been given a
lot of time.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
That must have been hard. How how many sisters did
you have? Three? Three?

Speaker 1 (45:09):
Oh wow, that's tough. Yes, and they all died before
they turned forty five. That's outrageous. That's a lot of sadness,
I know, a whole lot. What do you do with
all that sadness?

Speaker 3 (45:22):
How have you mentioned that you take it?

Speaker 1 (45:25):
And you say, well, I know they wouldn't want me
to feel bad that they're not here, you know, So
I do what they want me to do with My sister,
Jackie was the biggest Patty Labell fighter ever. If you
said you didn't like me, she was gonna beat you up.
And she was this big little thing. There was four
of you in the house growing up. Oh yeah, it
was four ladies. My god. We will wear each other's clothes,

(45:48):
try to put them back before they got back from
work or whatever, so they wouldn't know that they've been worn.
I used I was clean the school, honeywear and their clothes,
beautiful clothes. And I miss them all like crazy. So
I have their pictures all around and say, gosh, what
would you do if you saw me do this or

(46:08):
do that or dance with the stars. What would you say?
What would they say? They would say, girl, you're crazy?
So you still talk to the dancer. You still talk
to them? Oh yeah, you still feel connected. I am connected.

Speaker 3 (46:22):
Yes, so that's probably part of your blessing. They're probably
part of you.

Speaker 1 (46:26):
Oh they are. They are. And my mother and father
who died young, and I, like I said, I'm still standing.

Speaker 3 (46:35):
Wow. Yeah, yeah, yeah you say that.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
Now with before I got your sisters, your parents going young,
there had to be a there had to be a period.

Speaker 3 (46:44):
Where that was not an easy time for you.

Speaker 1 (46:46):
Oh it wasn't at all, but I.

Speaker 3 (46:51):
I did.

Speaker 1 (46:51):
If you asked me to the video after I buried
my sister Jackie and on my shoulder in the church
was a butterfly and I love butterflies. And that was
her saying you better do that video because it was
something in my business that I was contracted to do
and I said said, no, I'm not going to do it.

(47:13):
So when I did it, ah, I kicked my shoes off.
I cried. So the tears in that particular video they
were real. Wow after bearing my sister, Yeah wow, it
has been some good stuff I've gotten from them, good
just good stuff, good advice, just good everything. Before they

(47:35):
all passed, they passed it on to me. Well, they
still left you with stuff even after they passed. Yes
they did.

Speaker 3 (47:42):
They're still talking to you.

Speaker 1 (47:43):
Uh huh they are.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
What a blessing? Yes it is. I know you sang it.

Speaker 1 (47:48):
Celia's Oh my God. I sang at her memorial. I
sang ive Maria. Her husband called me because he knew
that we were buddies. And when I sing at her
memorial at the cathedral, I think that's where her services were.
Hell girl, I sang that song. I felt like an
angel just singing for her. At the time.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
She didn't know you guys were friends. I know you
had that performance and stuff. I didn't know you were friends.
We were that sounds like a good time.

Speaker 3 (48:18):
Oh crazy crazy, Oh room together? Are you crazy? Crazy?

Speaker 1 (48:23):
Wonderful time? And so she was going to teach me
to speak Spanish and I was going to teach her
to speak good English. I said, girl, I'm not even
a good speaker of English, but I'm a teacher, right,
And we had plans together, but she left. Yeah, what
a wonderful woman.

Speaker 3 (48:42):
Yeah. I was a big fan of hers too, were you?

Speaker 2 (48:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (48:45):
I loved seeing the two of you together and energy forever.
How old was she when she passed about seventy five?

Speaker 3 (48:53):
I thought she was older? Really, I thought so. I
thought she was old.

Speaker 1 (48:56):
You would know.

Speaker 2 (48:57):
Yeah, I thought she was older. I could be I
could totally be wrong. Seventy seven seventy seven.

Speaker 1 (49:01):
Yeah, I remember that she was some woman.

Speaker 3 (49:04):
Yeah, you've had a lot of great experiences with people
that I sure have.

Speaker 1 (49:08):
I mean, I have so many wonderful people in my
life that were in my life. Richard Pryor was so,
it was Prince and Michael Jackson and I had a
moment tell me that, because have you seen this movie?
Isn't what I've seen it twice?

Speaker 3 (49:26):
You did see it twice? I saw it twice already
to oh the best movie.

Speaker 2 (49:30):
It's so good because it's so I don't know, it
just takes you to this one period. It makes you
see him in the child in him in a different way.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
How he went through his life was amazing and he
he was born with that talent. And I watched it twice.
So he and I.

Speaker 2 (49:48):
I was.

Speaker 1 (49:51):
Performing overseas somewhere the Prince for some prince or something.

Speaker 3 (49:55):
You and Prince was bestie.

Speaker 1 (49:56):

Speaker 3 (49:57):
He had like a crush on you, Loki who Prince?
I know he did.

Speaker 1 (50:05):
I'm always joking, but he probably didn't. Yeah, he took
care of miss Patty Patty And it was four prints
of some big old you know, those rich people. And
so Michael was there and he and I sang Lady
Marmalade together that night, and I sang for him for

(50:27):
the Oh god, it was somebody. I've done a few
things with Michael. That was just beautiful. I can't remember.

Speaker 3 (50:33):
The other thing is Lady Marmalade? Is there a video
of that? Is that out? It might be That's something
I could.

Speaker 1 (50:38):
It might be on YouTube. Patty LaBelle and Michael Jackson
sing Lady marmalade and we're worried. We were We're worried
somewhere over over What is that experience?

Speaker 2 (50:51):
Like?

Speaker 1 (50:52):
It was just wonderful. I said, okay, why not? Why
shouldn't he sing Lady Marmalade with me? And he did
his little day. It was just beautiful.

Speaker 3 (51:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (51:03):
I have a picture of him somewhere in this house.

Speaker 3 (51:07):
Yeah, I want to walk around the house and you
see all the PHO.

Speaker 1 (51:11):
So many wonderful moments, so many Huh what was it?

Speaker 2 (51:20):

Speaker 1 (51:21):
Yes, that song, No I'll be there or no, no
Dona they had that one. Oh that song and Darryl Coley.

Speaker 3 (51:39):
There's that, but not her and Michael singing Lady Wrmalade.
I feel like there was video of you and Michael
Jackson singing and.

Speaker 1 (51:46):
It might be where worry when we perform.

Speaker 3 (51:50):
I don't know sut France? Is that sur south of France?

Speaker 4 (51:54):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (51:55):
And it was for a prince right right anyway, I
don't remember. I just know I've had fun in my life.
I've had so many wonderful moments and I am.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
Just that's a good highlight reel.

Speaker 2 (52:13):
You got a good highlight reel of like memorable inauguration
you went to that. Yeah, did you sing for the Obamas? No,
I saw a picture of you. I believe you never sang,
but I did.

Speaker 1 (52:30):
Oh, I sure did, right in his face. That's my dog,
yeah right, Yes, it was he Michelle and Michelle's mother
sitting in the front row, and I just gave him
a little speech. I said, I am so honored to
perform for mister Obama. I said, because you got swag.
I've had fun times in my life. I have fun times.

(52:54):
I had great times with Cyndy Lawber, with Pink, just
with a lot of the young girls in the industry,
with Gladys and Dion, with Oprah. Just times.

Speaker 3 (53:09):
Good for you.

Speaker 2 (53:12):
All right, let's go to some business a little bit,
because I love that you. I love that you're in
business with your son, with my son. That's challenging for
sometimes people to work with family.

Speaker 1 (53:22):
Well, he's my manager also in my rock and roll life, Okay,
so he's all around me and with Alex and Charles
and Zuri. And they've always known for a fact that
I could cook. So back in the day we started
talking about food, and the sweetest hait of pie was

(53:44):
the first big things.

Speaker 3 (53:48):
Yes, we did. I remember when viral. Yes, I just
not one in the kitchen by the way.

Speaker 1 (53:52):
Oh yeah, good.

Speaker 3 (53:53):
It was good, wasn't it delicious?

Speaker 1 (53:55):
Yes? And so right now we're doing breakfast Oh nice, yep.
Because my grandkids love waffles and so I made them
for them one day and they said, what did you
buy this, like from a grocery store. I said, no, boy,
I made that right there in the kitchen with my hands.
And they said, oh, they're so good. That's what we're doing.
That with the syrup, the pancakes. O gosh, we're just

(54:20):
doing a lot of stuff. Yeah, and of course you
know the other stuff, the macaroni, the greens, the you have.

Speaker 2 (54:27):
Like it's a full food line now and it's really well. Yeah,
it's doing really well.

Speaker 1 (54:33):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (54:34):
And syrup yeah, she said syrup. Yes.

Speaker 1 (54:38):
And I just like talking about how great that is,
you know, and not a surprise because it was quality.
You know, when you give great food for a decent price,
you feel great about your products. So my product was
something that you will fall in love with if you

(54:59):
like good food, good products, and I know you do.
I can't wait to try the other stuff. Yeah, you
have to try the breakfast foods are there. Oh yeah, okay,
oh yeah, I'm gonna do that and so many stores.

Speaker 3 (55:13):
And what is your dream for this company?

Speaker 1 (55:15):
Like, is this a honey? Let's top it. Let's go
as high as anybody. Let's be the best in this
industry because we're qualified to be the best. And it's
no joke. I mean, I am like you don't think small, huh,
I don't think small. No, you have to think top.

(55:39):
And with the three guys, with Zuri, Charles and Alex,
it's nothing but top work. They work like well, they
work hard promoting my mind. Yeah, and I'm I'm happy
to be with them. I trust all of them and
that's a good thing in business. You have to trust
who's taking care of your stuff.

Speaker 2 (56:00):

by Walden University.

irl bowl. Okay, pick a question out the bowl and.

Speaker 1 (56:49):
If money were limitless, what would you No, no, Patty,
what would be the first thing you would buy or do?

Speaker 3 (56:59):
Who?

Speaker 1 (57:00):
I would buy a bunch of houses for people who
can't afford them.

Speaker 3 (57:03):
Oh what did you still?

Speaker 1 (57:05):
I would yeah, yeah, because they're hard to buy. Yeah,
they're very expensive, So limitless, I would just do stuff
like that, take cars, buy homes. Yeah, take care of people,
all people who are in trouble.

Speaker 3 (57:24):
What are still some of your big goals? What are
some of the things you still want to do in
the world.

Speaker 1 (57:29):
Oh? Not much, really, I have done enough for me.
I'm not a vacation girl. I don't like to travel.
It's no mountain you want to climb or heck no,
there's no bune of jumping jumping, and no durn crazy stuff.

Speaker 3 (57:45):
No.

Speaker 1 (57:46):
I'm just satisfied with my life the way it is wow.
I want to just keep performing and recording and doing
what I do, dancing, playing those during cars, playing with
the dogs, yes, playing with the dogs. But there is

(58:07):
nothing that I think of that I will want to
do other than what I'm doing already. What a beautiful
thing to be able to say I really mean it.

Speaker 3 (58:16):
Yeah, no, but I know. But everybody wants to be
at It's peace what you're talking about, right, I'm.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
Very much at peace. Like I said, when I come home,
I don't want to leave to go on vacation or
go someplace beautiful or whatever. This is it home. I
am happy being home.

Speaker 3 (58:37):
Good for you.

Speaker 1 (58:38):
No regrets. Do you have any regrets? Not really, no regrets, No,
nothing that's important. No, I'm good.

Speaker 3 (58:48):
What do you think Your superpower is cooking? Cooking? Really? Really,
that's it. That's it.

Speaker 1 (58:56):
That's my superpower.

Speaker 3 (58:58):
It's not how you connect with me. Boy is like, no, my.

Speaker 1 (59:02):
Superpower is cooking.

Speaker 3 (59:03):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (59:04):
And I made food today, I mean yesterday, and my
beauty squad, my glam squad, they tasted the food that
I made and they all lost their minds. But they
can only have a little bit because only had a
little left.

Speaker 3 (59:20):
I know, you left because I will think I will.

Speaker 2 (59:26):
Right. What do you like most about yourself besides your cooking?
What do you I love my voice? I love my
singing voice.

Speaker 3 (59:35):
Yes. What is one thing that you hope never changes
about you?

Speaker 1 (59:40):
My heart? I hope my heart never changes. I hope
I continue that. I will continue to give, and I
don't want that to change. Like I said, sometimes it's
to a fault, but I don't mind. You've come to
terms with that, right, Yes, I have. That's why I
I'm gonna work on that. I'm gonna work on that

(01:00:02):
for myself. You will.

Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
I'm not at the terms that I'm still trying to
fight it.

Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
I'm like, no, I need better for it, girl, I
got it big. Oh, he has a bad cough to
the all right.

Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
Baby still cuddles, Okay, No, he.

Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
Has his laryn is collapsing.

Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Yeah, we're baby, that's stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
That's mom.

Speaker 3 (01:00:32):
Do you want me to get him? Do you want
me to get him? I get him, I get him,
I get him.

Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
I want to hold him?

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Yeah you want.

Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
Can't. We're gonna get this okay, Yeah, we're gonna wrap.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
Up with yes, cuddles was hanging on the b sen
my God, look at cuddles baby. Okay, Yeah, he's not well,
you know, but he's hanging.

Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
He is hanging in there. God bless Triple O. G
over there. He sure is all right. This is our
final one.

Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
If God would have sent you a text on your
phone right now, you got you still got a flip phone, Patty,
I got that.

Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
Flip purple phone. I don't text.

Speaker 3 (01:01:33):
You don't text.

Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
No, I don't have a d M or whatever that
stuff is. I don't do that stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
Please, I can't take it. If you had a d M,
that would be nuts. Right.

Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
I'm just a phone girl, a regular phone. You talk landline,
you talk to people. Yes, are you a talker on
the phone?

Speaker 3 (01:01:47):
Like, do you like the phone?

Speaker 1 (01:01:49):
The talk on the phone.

Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
So how do you connected with friends and family?

Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
Because if they call and I don't feel like talking,
I'll say I'm getting massage. I might tell a little
white lie. Yeah, I don't like talking on the phone.
Plus I'm saving my voice most of the time, so
having conversation is not.

Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
Not wears you out?

Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
Yeah, yeah, it takes your voice away.

Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
I can't believe you're going back in the studio. Oh
I have to girls been so long since I've done
an R and B album. Most of it is done,
And what is the gold there? Like, what do you
is it just because it's on your spirit? Is it's
something that should have been done many years ago? I'm
long overdue.

Speaker 3 (01:02:31):
Yeah, and where do you hope that lands in the world?

Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
Like, what do you make It's going to land a
triple triple platinum, That's what it's going to land. Girlfriend, Okay, urge?

Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
Do you have like plans for it to tour and
like it.

Speaker 1 (01:02:44):
A whole everything? I never stopped touring, never ever stop touring,
So I plan to do all that. Yeah, while you're
taking care of the cuddles and your and doing everything,
you don't stop one thing because you have more things
on your plate. You continue to do it all.

Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Yes. So if God were to text you right now,
this is our final question. If God were to text
you right now, even though you don't text, you gotta text,
and it was God right and he texted you, what
would it say. It would say, don't stop what you're doing, baby,
keep it up because you're doing it. Well, that's what
God would say.

Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
Here's to you. If I had a hen I hold
my glass the dog you are doing it well, miss
le Bell, I love you so much?

Speaker 3 (01:03:35):
Was it very much? I know you never stopped touring?
But what about the Queen's Tour?

Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
What is Oh my gosh, this is the second half
of the Queen's Tour. We toured about two months ago.

Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
Now, who's on the tour? For people?

Speaker 1 (01:03:48):
You're the ladies that's on the tour Stephanie Mills, Gladys Knight,
Shaka Khan and Patty Lobel And we're doing this weekend
all so this weekend, yes, no in Texas and I
need to get to that. I don't remember where I'm going.
I just know I'm going. And this is the last

(01:04:11):
three shows of the Queen's toy Yes, wow, what is
that experience? It's been wonderful. But you can get a
chance to watch them because we all have like forty
five minutes and the next act goes right on, and
next goes on. So when you go there, you do
your part and then you leave the building go back
to the hotel. But I sneak sometimes and I'll get

(01:04:33):
there earlier to see Gladys and Steph and we just
have fun. But we never get a chance to chit
chat because we're all really right on behind each other
and running.

Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Yeah, but it might be nice to have that.

Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
It is for four black women to do what we do,
and we do it like with no egos and no
one's trying to outdo anyone. We just sing, yeah, what
is the key to that?

Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
I think you'll all probably really say, because we're.

Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
All secure and who we are and there's no competition none.
And I would do it again, and we might do
it again. You need to, yes, I think we will.

Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
You always talk. We always talk about how you poured
into everybody who poured into you.

Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
In a Simon really, yes, she did. She would talk
to me all the time about looking for the better.
In other words, if I was drinking wine and they
would bring it to me in a paper cup, she said,
oh no dot, no crystal for you. And since then
there's been no paper cups.

Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
Well, if Nina Simon said.

Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
And she's serious, she was serious. It was my friend.

Speaker 3 (01:05:46):
She was your friend.

Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
We talked every two weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
She would be in London or somewhere overseas and she
would just call me and we would just talk. She said,
you should find a man for me. Yet said, no, Boon, no,
nobody's worthy for real. She's she was that girl, just
wonderful moments with her, and she she was like, you
need the finer things. Oh yeah, yeah, bluff up. But Nina,

(01:06:12):
she outright just told me no plastic cups, no paper cups.
Crystal diing, I said, okay, and I've been knowing Crystal.
This is Crystal. Hey, can't expect nothing else to you,
my dear to you, Miss LaBelle.

Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
LaBelle in real life, in real loone.

Speaker 1 (01:06:34):
