Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, everyone, welcome back to Beat your Happy Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm a jail and I'm Serena and we are back
with part two with Mel and.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Pad and should we get into it.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Let's get into it.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
You know, I do have to say one thing, you
guys knowing Mel now in really getting to know who
he is, and what came to me the most about
his character is he doesn't have integrity.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
He is integrity.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Oh that's really nice.
Speaker 5 (00:28):
That's a great compliment.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
That's sinc in.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
No, that is like because I you know, and I
really respected him because he didn't go around telling all
these women I.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Love you, I love you, I love you, I love you.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
I don't respect that because for me, love takes time
and there's value to the word love and I'm not
going to just throw it around just because I've got
chemistry with you.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Chemistry.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
It's okay, that's great, but is that sustainable?
Speaker 6 (00:51):
And I could have been attracted and I was attracted
to all of them in some degree, but you just
can't go there and just tell him, you know, like
if you told me and you told her the same thing,
it's like, you know, because it gets around and then
you know, then it gets it gets leaked or it's
on camera, then everybody else watches it. I just told
the truth in my honest feelings, and in PEG was
(01:13):
the same way. So that was the connection and the chemistry,
and you know, and it worked out. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
I mean, I will say, all the women we've interviewed
and even on the Women Tell All, they've all spoken
really highly of you, Mile, which doesn't always happen with
the lead. So yeah, you.
Speaker 6 (01:31):
Know, I really could think and a few of them
have come to me and said thank you for being
just the way you were on the show, because I
was honest and they weren't misled. So easy to just
fall into that, like you said earlier, fall into it.
You can fall into that little area that gray or
like I really like you and I'm falling I'm falling
(01:53):
in love with you. It's like, yeah, I don't want
to go there if it's not true. I just don't
want to.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
Yeah, you don't want anyone to feel mislad or blindsided.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
I still wanted to make sure that she's the one. Yeah,
rush on her, but I'm not in love with her
right away. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
Love seems to be obviously important to you guys. You
want to love the person that you're with, but not
the most important thing. What were some of the things
for each of you that you were looking for from
one another to be like okay, like great, like love,
but like I really see these qualities or I feel
this way about this person, and that is bringing me
confidence that, you know, I could see a life with them.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Oh my gosh, thet the overnight, that's when I really
got to know him. No cameras, no you know, mics,
no whites, none of that stuff. And he's a chatty Kathy,
believe or not. Bachelor Nation, he's a chatty Kathy. And
I was like, whoa where did this come from?
Speaker 4 (02:53):
You know?
Speaker 2 (02:53):
But that's being able to let your guard down without
the cameras in your face or the mics or you've
got you know, people around you. It's really it's really hard,
you know, to express yourself and to get in your
fills when all of this stuff is going on. So
I loved his honesty, his directness, his integrity. You know,
he's honestly, he's got a great sense of humor.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Believe it or not.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Everybody you know, it's just it takes time to get
to know somebody.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah, how about you mom.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
Well, you know, I know, peg she colors outside the lines,
and I have to have someone like that. I have
someone with a tremendous amount of energy and in not
sometimes like all the time. And then when I saw that,
I go, that's my girl right there, that whole energy
and says what she wants. And when you look at
(03:46):
her background, you know, it tells a lot about you too,
someone who's sacrifice right and you're giving of others. She's
you know, she's a first responder. She was on the
fire department, police department bomb squad. She I found out
later she taught, you know, with the Secret Service of
the CIA or the FBI. FBI down in you know,
(04:08):
in like Huntsville, Alabama, down south. So all these qualities,
I go. So there's a lot of background, a lot
of depth to her. And also she's crazy, and I
like crazy, and I like crazy. I don't like I
don't like boredom. You know, I'm not. I'm not a
boring guy either, you know, I mean it's not it
comes across because I'm just answering the questions on you know,
(04:30):
when I'm being honest, and everybody wants that for me
to be crazy I'm not crazy like that, but in
the relationship, I love to have fun, I really do.
And she's the best person to have fun with, like
the best. And I knew it, and I knew it
so that those are the qualities and I saw those
early on. I go, I had a crush on her.
So she walked out. So I saw her out of
the bomb, you know, and I saw her in her dress.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
I go, ask my girl, right there, crazy, crazy is important, right.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
Right, important crazy, And I love it.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Have you have you ever had a real close call
with a bomb?
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Oh? Yeah, A couple of times you got off those calls? Man, Yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (05:07):
Guess it's the ball Like, you don't get the bomb
spot in unless it's a close call.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Because you just don't know what you're gonna get.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
You're walking up on a device, you know, and you
don't know what the device is. You don't know if
it's a you know, if it's inert or if it's live.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
You just don't know.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
So yeah, it's just you know, I put that bomb
suit on, and I'm like, all right, just let's, you know, say.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
A prayer here.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
What's more nerve wracking the bomb suit? Walking into a
bomb or the bomb suit, walking into the mansion.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Walking into the mansion.
Speaker 7 (05:35):
Yeah yeah, I'm telling you, I was so nervous by
far meeting him, meeting all the women, walking into that mansion.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
I was so nervous because it was out of my
comfort zone.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
I've never done anything like this before. And you're on
live TV. You know, you're on TV and you're supposed
to get.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Into your fields and and you know, it's just it's
very different.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Hey, with a bomb. You know, worst case you die
on the Bachelor, you have to watch yourself back look
like an idiot.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
That's that's hard forever.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah, that's very true.
Speaker 6 (06:16):
Peg.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
We touched on you meeting Mel's boys. But what did
you think of Diane his close friend?
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
I love Diane. We still talk today. I just was
on the phone with her a couple of days ago
and just chatting with her. She's extremely smart, extremely compassionate,
and uh, we just sat down in the interview in
Antigua and we just, you know, we were like two
chatty Kathy's. You know, we were just talking and talking
and we were talking over each other. And I really
(06:46):
really like her and I'm really looking forward to her
to spend more time with her a really great person.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
Mel you said when PEG's did Alemo, you instantly had
a crush on her, And I feel like you guys
definitely had like a spark chemistry right off the bat.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
As a viewer, it looked like you kind of really.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Built a strong friendship as well, kind of early on
that developed into a more romantic, deeper connection. Can you
just kind of both of you walk us through your
relationship journey and if you feel like that's accurate how
it progressed.
Speaker 6 (07:20):
Well, you know, when she came out with the bombs on,
I didn't see her like I told you, But then
there's a diversion because they couldn't get the bomb to
blow up, so they took me off, and then they
somehow got her, and I wasn't really paying attention. I go,
who's this right? She had the bomb in her hand.
I go, the same girl that was in the in
the in the suit, and I was taken back. I go, wow,
(07:41):
I go, I you know, boom, I have a crush
on it right right there. Then at the first you know,
the interviews or the talks, she was one of the
last ones. So the sun was coming up and I
saw her and I go, wow, go, that's the same
person that I just met. So they started developed there,
and then she goes, oh, yeah, I live in Vegas
(08:03):
and I also come to Orange County and I live
in Orange County. I go, how's that even? How does
that even work? Right? So then on our first group
date at the coliseum, you know, they have people next
to you the entire time where you can't leave, like
where you're going? Where are you going? Where are you going? Right?
They had cameras and everything, but Paul that Duel was there.
So when Paul up Duel came, everybody went to Paul
(08:24):
that Duel. I left right, their guard was down. I left,
and I went around. I played at the mascot a
little bit, and then I went off and I go
to Peg. I go, hey, can I talk to you.
I don't never really know her, right, just my second
time talking to her, Hey, can I talk to you
for a minute. So she comes out of her you know,
she's doing her routine. She comes out and I go, hey,
tell me how you how you live in Orange County
(08:45):
sometimes and you live in Vegas. I goes, I live
in Orange County. She's well, I was fifty fifty I'm retired.
You know, I've been tired, retired for ten years. I'm
like ten years ago. I must to be tired when
you're like fifty years old, you know, something like that.
So I was doing the math on it and I go, oh, okay.
So then I go, all right, that might work, you know.
So then I kept on adding to the to my
(09:06):
story in my head. One thing led to another. I
already had a crush on her, finding out a little
bit more about her, and it just built from there,
and you know, the rest is history.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
What about you've hag.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
You know, it's just you know, it's billing for me.
What love means is getting that firm foundation and just
I don't want to fall in love because you're going
to break your face. I just want to grow in love,
and that growing in love is sustainable and at this
and I said that when we were an antigu, I said,
you know, I don't I don't want to waste another
five years on something that's not going to work. So
to take that time in the very beginning of a
(09:47):
relationship and really be conscious of are these qualities that
are going to fit for me? And are these qualities
that are going to fit for him and a nice
firm foundation just to you know, just build a and
build on that relationship and just fall deeper in love
with each other, because you know, love does grow, It
really does. Is not something that just happens overnight.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Have you guys talked at all about how you are
going to make it work logistically?
Speaker 6 (10:12):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Hell yeah? Oh my god me ready upstart start ready, Thanksgiving.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
I'm a live a fit foundation. First of all, she
lives in Vegas, right, she lives in Vegas. So that's
only a forty five minute plane ride. It's up and down.
They didn't even have a service, right, or it's like
a three and a half hour four you know, right,
which is a good ride. You know, it's it's pleasant.
So that's not a Vegas.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
I love Vegas. I would I would live there there.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
You'll damble all our money away.
Speaker 6 (10:48):
Somewhere in Ohio where it's completely boring, right, or so
I'm in southern California. It's we're here in southern California.
It's November. It's great. Vegas is always good, right, and
so then so right, for the immediate future, we're going
to go to Vegas, and then we're going to go
(11:08):
to Michigan. There's something called hob novel Gobble. You can
google that. It's bigger than the Grammys.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
And then go to wait what is it? That's for Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
We're gonna be over there for Thanksgiving to spend time
with his uh bob novel gobble.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
It's hob no Gobble. You can google. It's the biggest
thing ever Gala. Yeah, okay, we're all the CEOs and
all the people come in. It's bigger than the Grammys.
So after after that, you go back to Vegas.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Back to Vegas after that because we're gonna go to
the sphere. You guys are gonna go see the.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
Right.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Yeah, we story behind that. But in his birthdays on
the seventh, so I'm gonna take him to a Raiders game.
We're gonna go to a Raiders game. And then after
that we're going to spend Christmas two or three weeks
in Reac.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
Wait wait wait wait. So we go back to Michigan
to go to Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Thanksgiving with my friend and
then we go then we go to Toronto and Montreal.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Just to break it up.
Speaker 6 (12:03):
H yeah, just we come back for the University of
Michigan game Ohio State game.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Right, aren't they playing? Aren't they playing? Aren't they playing?
In Wrigley this this weekend.
Speaker 6 (12:14):
Michigan Northwestern oh And then following the following two weeks later,
we play at home against Ohio State. Ohio State, which
is right around the twenty ninth, right, And then then
a couple of weeks later, We're going to Real for Christmas.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
For Christmas, I have friends.
Speaker 6 (12:33):
I have one of my best friends lives in Rio.
He's been my friend for forty years. So we're going
to go and spend it. I go to Real all
the time, so I go. It's a great place to
spend Christmas. It's hot there, right, it's flipped so it's
summer there, so it's like ninety degrees. Then, so we
spend Christmas and New Year's there. Then we come back
(12:54):
and then my friend works for ESPN and we're going
to do the Super Bowl up in Santa Clara.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
So amazing.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
I mean, yeah, we just got the whole calendar.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
I'm soaked for you guys. You're going to have the
best time. Are your kids all going with you as well?
Speaker 6 (13:10):
No? Christmas not invited.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Oh, they're on there over Christmas.
Speaker 6 (13:14):
Bye. Anothery're playing. My boys play baseball. One plays in college,
one plays in high school. So they got their own schedule.
But we're going to go out and watch them play
in Pump Springs and so they're going to be sort
of in the mext. I asked me, do you want
to go to Rio with us? Because you know, my
wife was Brazilian, so they have friends and family down there,
and they go. Now, we're busy, we got stuff to do,
(13:35):
so pack.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Where does your Where does your daughter live? She's a
big Vegas Okay.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
After I retired, I moved to San Clementy for a
couple of years, and I have friends and family in
San Clementy.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
That's twenty minutes from where he is.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
And I've just been going back and forth there for
thirty years. And here's the nice thing that I need
to tell you, guys, Because you're young. When you're you know,
you work your entire life. You've done the marriage, you've
done the colleges, you've done the kids, the dog, the house,
all that stuff. So when you're in your sixties, because
everybody always ask, it's really nice being retired and being
where we're at in our life. You do what you
(14:08):
want to do when you want to do it, there's
no this or that. It's always an and. And that's
what's nice about working so hard. Our entire lives right
because you want the and there's no this or that.
So we have their Vegas house and our Orange County
house and we're traveling and the kids.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
So it's really fun. We just you know, go live life,
you guys. The thing is done.
Speaker 6 (14:29):
And I have friends all over the world so that
I haven't seen since before COVID, and now I'm gonna
get a chance to, you know, you know, go back
and visit and I go peg. You're gonna love these places,
you know, and she's gonna show me the same thing.
You know. She has all her friends all over the
place too, so we're gonna go visit them and have fun.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
What are you guys going to Toronto and Montreal for?
I'm from Toronto. I'm I'm in Toronto right now.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Oh wow, you to talk to you?
Speaker 6 (15:00):
Yeah, other stuff works out. This is hobdoble gobble Google
that the gravy better than the bigger and better than
the grammy hob noble gobble. And that's the Friday before Thanksgiving.
So instead of going back to California or Vegas. You know,
we got to not kill time, but spend some time late.
(15:21):
I don't want to spend the entire time in Michigan,
so I go Toronto. Is I'm from Detroit, So I
go Toronto. From Detroit, so I gon a couple hours.
So we're gonna go there and it spent a couple
of nights in Toronto. Then take a train to Montreal.
I've never been to Montreal, hang out back my friend's
house in Michigan, celebrate Thanksgiving there, then two days later
(15:43):
the game. So that's why we're going. That's where we're
spending time in Canada.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
All right, we'll give me.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
Your numbers that we can connect and we guess I'll
text you and I'll send you guys a bunch of time.
Speaker 6 (15:53):
I loved it.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Toronto's great. Are you going to have a great time?
Speaker 6 (15:58):
Peg? Peg?
Speaker 1 (16:00):
What did your going back a little bit to the
show and off of scheduling?
Speaker 6 (16:04):
Heck?
Speaker 1 (16:05):
What is what did your daughter think when you told
her it was a happy ending?
Speaker 4 (16:10):
She's like, really, really.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Did she think you were going to get heartbroken at
the end?
Speaker 4 (16:17):
No, she didn't.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
She know theyll know that she's gonna win. I go
to go to their house and her friend Atlanta, right.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
She goes, wouldn't be here, she.
Speaker 6 (16:29):
She, she goes, nothing surprises me about Peg. Nothing she goes.
If she came back and says, oh, I just got
finished walking on the moon. They go, okay, yes, Peg, right,
I remember that about what they said about her. Nothing
really surprises them about her what she does, and I
got to know that, and nothing surprises me about her
that you know. She says she's going to do something,
she can do it, and her daughter was like, oh, okay,
(16:53):
it's surprising, but not really. Yeah, surprising, she went, but
not really of course.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Yeah, I could see that. This question is for both
of you looking back on the season. What are some
of your favorite or what's like, maybe one favorite memory
that you have together?
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Go ahead, favorite memory?
Speaker 1 (17:13):
We have together a lot of hard Okay, when we
were in the mud fire Chatty, Kathy Mel, I'm picking
up on it. I'm picking up.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
On Yeah, what the heck? Why did they do you
so dirty? They like, you don't talk so much to
say you know what?
Speaker 5 (17:28):
We did say that on this podcast after the tell All,
they showed some bloopers and we said, I feel like
they're hiding Mel's personality from us.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
Yeah, and this is my be material. It's not even
my good stuff. Wow. What was the question again?
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Tell us your favorite moment from the season with Pat.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
Favorite moment was because they had the mud baths, right,
and there was two of them, right, and then I
don't know how they go, well, we're gonna get rid
of one, and I had just gotten to that the
cold plunge because they did it backwards. I was cold
plunge then because they had the the the mud bath
first and then the cold plunge, it was a cold
plunge and I was freezing. I go, I'm hoping this
is going to be warm, right, And it was like
(18:07):
late in the day because the sun was going down
and near on top of the mountains will get cold
up there. That was really a cool moment because I
never had a mud bath before and I'm in there
with the girl across me and I have a crush,
but I go, this would be good, man, And it
was warm. It was warm, so I every want to
come out. It was good. That was one of my
best moments on the show.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
I love that Casey in the Sunshine Band because all
that music we grew up on, and it just took
me back.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
To being sixteen years old again. And I didn't care
about the cameras with the people.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
I was really just in the moment enjoying time with him,
and those songs were just so you know, it just
brought me right back to being a teenager again.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
It was just so fun and.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Just to let go of all those preconceived ideas and
people are watching me and what are they going to
think and all that other stuff and just be in
the moment. And I think that was one of the
best moments for me.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
I love that. Okay, we are going to play the
newly happy couple game. It's Who's who you guys? Ready
got it? Okay, who's the better cook?
Speaker 4 (19:20):
Mal By far?
Speaker 6 (19:22):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Okay, hook you talk?
Speaker 6 (19:30):
Well?
Speaker 1 (19:30):
What do you what do you not do? Now? What's
your favorite? What's your what's your best dish?
Speaker 6 (19:35):
Today was eggs and bacon. Well, you know, I make
the best soup ever, all of them and it was
sort of mundane like soup, but if you tasted it,
you go, oh my god. Okay like that.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
I try to make sup a lot and like it's
hit or miss.
Speaker 6 (19:52):
And jos you had it. They know it's for real.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Who's more forgettable or forgetful?
Speaker 3 (20:01):
You are forgettable?
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Who is more forgetful?
Speaker 4 (20:05):
I mean we're both forgetful.
Speaker 6 (20:07):
I'm not forgetful. No, I'm not. I'm not take a
point to be not forgetful.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Who has better music taste?
Speaker 6 (20:15):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (20:15):
No, motown? Baby?
Speaker 6 (20:17):
Yeah, I have my my playlist, and I knew she'd
like it, even even it's off. It's not all motown,
but a lot of motown. But it's that genre, that style.
And oh she doesn't dance to it? I go. I
knew she'd love it, love it, love it, new stuff,
old stuff, She loves it.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
I mean, I get in the car with my dad.
The first thing he says is Siri, playful town.
Speaker 6 (20:39):
Who sleeps?
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Who sleeps in?
Speaker 6 (20:40):
More?
Speaker 2 (20:43):
You do?
Speaker 6 (20:43):
Oh? I do?
Speaker 4 (20:45):
I'm up at like six o'clock.
Speaker 6 (20:46):
I get up early toopers my boys get at six o'clock.
But given if I could sleep in, I'd sleep in
so so it'd be it'd.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Be me who hogs the bed.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Both of us, yeah, both of us.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Who takes longer to get ready?
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Oh I do?
