Speaker 2 (01:00):
Welcome back into iHeartRadio's official wrestling podcast, The Battleground Podcast.
In ww SmackDown is heading back to Dallas, Louisville, and Raleigh.
Tickets available online at ticketmaster dot com and today joining
us on the show. No stranger to the show. A
man known by many names. Let's see let's go down
this list. Uh, there's Tricky two times, there's Mister That,

(01:21):
there's Sweet Daddy Trick, there's the annoying one, there's mister
Lim and Pepa Steppa. Let's give it up for Trick
Williams joining the show, my man.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Let's talk about it.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Man, we got a lot of things to talk about
since the last time you've been here on the show.
But I want to jump right into this real quick,
because you've talked about this before, even before you know,
you got to NXT and everything else. You had that
first SmackDown appearance and a totally different role than what
you're in now. How wild is it looking back at
that from where you are now?

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Man? God is good? Man.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
You know, like you know, a lot of times you
feel like you're ready for something and you want to
rush the process and it can't come soon enough. But
everything happened when it's supposed to happen. Now I'm missed
the main event of SmackDown. Let's talk about it.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Let's talk about it for sure now.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
A lot of people when when you made your way
through WW, when you went through NXT, you teamed up
with Carmelow and then everybody was kind of like, Oh, what's.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Gonna happen now that they parted way.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Some fans which we don't gonna we're not gonna acknowledge them,
said that you needed Melo to stay relevant in hindsight?

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Hindsight?

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Did that doubt fuel your rise to being mister main
event of SmackDown?

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
You know, like I see, I see a lot of
the comments online, you know, just inevitably, like when you
hop on your timeline, people gonna talk, you know what
I mean. If you care about the craft, you know,
you might look you know what I mean, And I
see I see negative comments all the time. I see
positive comments all the time. But you know, regardless, the
sun gonna rise next day and I gotta get back
to work. So I mean, I see it all. But

(02:56):
you know, regardless, I had goals, I had dreams, I
had a vision four. I was teamed up with Melo
after I was with Mellow to achieve. So it doesn't
really matter what anybody says. I ain't got there yet,
So I'm gonna keep.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Grinding, absolutely for sure.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Something something really cool about Trick Williams is his name
is etched in the history books as becoming the first
active WWE superstar to hold the TNA title. Did you
realize how big of a statement that was for the
industry when you got that.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Title TNA also known as the trick and a title.
But uh, I mean yeah, I mean I knew, I
knew right away.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
I mean, I mean, Joe Hendry was bold enough to
put that title on the line against yours.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Truly, I said, Man, what a dummy, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 1 (03:42):
He just made me an elite caliber of all talent
of all wrestling history. I mean, so that was an
awesome moment to be the first active NXT WWE talent
to hold both titles and secondary is Joe Hendry, who
just won the NFT Championships. Shout out to him, Man,
you know, he deserves his you know what I mean,

(04:03):
his flowers as well. But yeah, man, that's just such
a great moment, one of my most proud moments since
joining the business.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yeah, for sure. Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Now what's it like seeing Joe Hendry now being a
part of that ww roster and having that NXT title
as somebody that you have history with.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Man, I'm I'm you know, I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
I'm happy for Joe Hendry, you know, what I mean,
he's an extraordinary talent. And you know, dare I say
self made man got it out the mud, you know,
took full control of his situation, you know, hands on
with his entrance, with his presentation, with his character, with
his entering work.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
And look at what he's done.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Man, he's been a Royal Rumbles WrestleManias, you know, before
even being signed with the company. I mean, you can't
take that likely man. Shout out to Joe Hendry, you
know what I mean. I give him all the love
and respect until you put him in the room with me,
and then he has to come second place. But you know,
shout out to Joe Hendry.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Right absolutely for sure. Now you mentioned Royal Rumbles, I
want to talk to you about that. When that Royal
Rumbo countdown hit recently in Saudi your music played, what
was going through your head standing behind the curtain and
then you get out there and hit that ram But
you see all those fans.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
You know, to be honest with you, you know that
was just such a surreal moment. Man.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I mean a lot of people there in Saudi Arabia
and Riad, you know, a lot of them don't even
speak English. But you know they knew three words. Well
that trick. You know what I mean to me, like
I take that. I don't take nothing for granted man
in life. Like you know, growing up, I never even
thought I would ever beat us out of Arabia. So

(05:37):
to be able to go there and have twenty five
thousand screaming chanting, going crazy looking good with my white furrow,
you know what I mean, throwing people in any guanas
out the ring man, I mean like, I don't say
none of this likely. Man, shout to Saudi Arabia. I
had a great time there. The food was good, the
people treated us like royalty.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Man. I love Saudi man. Shout out to Saudi man.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Definitely a fun time watching that crowd chanting, whoop that
trick when you walk down that ramp. Uh. You know,
it just goes to show how many people are behind
Trick Williams.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
I mean, anywhere you go you hear Trick Williams. Whoop
that trick follows it right.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
People have really gotten behind Trick Williams, including legends like
Mark Henry saying that you make them want to wrestle again.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
What what's that kind of praise do for you? Mentally?

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Man, I mean, I know, it seemed like everything's just
a wild moment. But it is though, because you know,
this is a big deal because me growing up and
watching the business, the first era that I was raised
on was the attitude era. You know what I mean,
sexual chocolate, you know what I mean. Like Mark Henry
way back in the day, the world's strongest man. So

(06:44):
you know he said, seeing Trick Williams coming out with
that energy, with that, with that, what do you say,
that grit, that that that aura that he has said
make me want to wrestle again, you know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Like that's Mark Henry Man.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
And shoot, let's run it, dann Mark if you're ready,
I'm ready, man, Let's talk about it and put the
boots back on.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Get it people what they want, Mark, get it people.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
In reversus Trick Williams. I'll buy a ticket for that.
I'll raise my hand, I'll pay for it for sure.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Versus mister Lemon Pepper Stepper selling out.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
That's gonna be great and maybe we might see it
at one of the shows Dallas, Litlevore or Raleigh Again.
Tickets available online ticketmaster dot com.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Now, one thing that's been really cool to see.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Is just the transition, like we've talked about, going from
you know, being just kind of an extra on SmackDown
at the first thing, you get to NXT. Now you're
in the main roster. How has that transition been going
from NXT to the main roster?

Speaker 1 (07:41):
I mean, this is what I've always wanted, This is
what I dreamed of when it was I had a
decision to make seven seven years ago, like am I
going to continue to chase his football dream? Or am
I going to become a WWE superstar? And I went
back and I watched the film that I love. I
watched the Attitude era, like I said, and I watched

(08:01):
Stone Cold Steve Fauston. I watched The Rock. You know,
I watch these guys. When they walked out in that
and that glass broke, the people lost their minds and
got out their seat. When you heard can you smell
what the Rock is cooking? People got out their seat
and they got the moving. And when Matt shoot, when
the Rock grabbed that microphone, everybody was tuned in. He

(08:22):
had complete controls, like a choir director. When he grabbed
a microphone, I said, man, I want to feel that.
I want to know what that is like.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
So like that was always the expectation always to go.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
When I jumped in this business, I said, man, I
want to make the people feel So when my music plays,
I want people standing up. I want the energy live.
When I grab a microphone, I want people to listen.
I want them to have a conversation with me, just
like I'm having a conversation with them. So for all
these things to be here now, like, this is why
I'm here, This is what I wanted to.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Do all along.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
I can see it clear as day, twenty twenty vision.
This is who I am, this is what I want
to be. So it's a cool moment absolutely.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
And I gotta tell you, I've been in some arenas
when your theme song hits, and I gotta say, probably
the loudest arena that I've ever been in was WrestleMania.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Weekend Stand and Deliver.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
My watch was going off telling me loud environments because
everybody was yelling whooped that trick? Do you think that
that Philadelphia room was the loudest you've heard during WrestleMania
Weekend at Standing Deliver.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
It's tough, but like Philadelphia has a special place in
my heart. Man, I think I said this on this
show before. Like, Man, I had my last down of
football in Philadelphia. I mean I took my first wrestling
bump right there in Philadelphia, training at CZW. You know,
I main event in my first WrestleMania main event, my
first pl right there in Philadelphia. And like when people

(09:46):
think about Trick Williams, a lot of people think about
standing Deliver Philadelphia. You know, shoot the laya the largest
attendance ever in NXT history, if I'm not mistaken. So man,
that that moment right there holds a special place in
my heart. You know, I hit the pop, But honestly,
I'm so lit myself come into the ring. I could

(10:06):
barely hear anything. I'm just going out great is going
so you know what I mean. Like, you know, I
don't really check to compare when I walk through the curtain. Man,
I'm just I'm enjoying the energy and it feeds me
and it fees me. He's like turns me to a masta.
So it's a special thing.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Absolutely for sure.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Now, recently we heard Drew McIntyre actually have some high
praises for you, saying that you've got all the tools
he put you up over above somebody else you know
from NXT. Oh, but fem me, how heavy does that
co sign feel coming from someone like Drew McIntyre, who's
the current champion that you're trying to get that belt from, right?

Speaker 1 (10:47):
I mean, I got the utmost respect for Drew McIntyre.
I mean, look at him. He's a specimen, you know
what I mean, Like, these are the guys that you
want to see represent the business specimens. Alpha males, tigers, lions, bears,
oh my, you know. I mean, that's who you need
to see holding titles, holding the belts. When they walk,
you know, through the airport, people turn their head and
look and see who is that. Drew McIntyre is one

(11:09):
of those guys for sure. So I take that praise,
you know, very seriously. But I got to make it
come to fruition. I gotta work. I gotta do my part.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Man.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
I'm grinding. I'm grinding every single day like I'm after it.
I'm hungry, you know what I mean. I appreciate it, Drew,
but at the same time, I want your spot, so
don't get it twisted.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
And you know we're gonna put it out in the universe.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
We'll see Trick Williams get that main event spot we'll
see him take the title from Drew.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
And you know, looking back.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
At this, because this has been kind of cool watching
since you've gotten up to the main roster. You stepped
into the ring with Drew McIntyre, with Randy Orton this
early on.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
That's the company showing some serious trust in you. How
does it feel knowing they see you in that spotlight.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
I mean, I'm glad they know what they got in
their hands. That's what Trick Williams belongs. I mean, that's
what it is. I mean, that's what I'm made for.
And I'm glad that they know it because I know
it and shoot every day that's what I'm working towards.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Absolutely, Trick Williams is our guests on the show before
we let you go, Anything you want to say to
the fans that are watching or listening to this right now.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Hey man, come get your tickets. Come see It's in Dallas, Louisville, Raleigh,
North Carolina. Let's talk about it. We're gonna whoop that
all around the world, your vowel sensation. Find me www
dot worldwide, Willie dot com where we can whoop that
