Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome in everybody to betting pros. It's time to play
sho our bets. It is Meet Joey p Joe Pie's
a Pia and this is BP NFL. We've only got
one line to look ahead to this week because it's
the Super Bowl, that's right, and the two happiest boys
ever meet and Andrew Erickson because our Patriots are in
the Super Bowl again. I know. Please don't turn it off.
Please don't turn off the show. Don't worry. We're gonna
(00:24):
break it all down for you because we're gonna put
all of the homely stuff away, no home or nonsense,
none of that. It's gonna be just what we think
about the game and really honest because we're here to
make money. That's what we want to do. And if
it happens to be with the Patriots winning the Super Bowl,
there's a reason behind these takes. So we're gonna get
into all of that here before we do. Andrew Erickson
(00:46):
certainly a game I think in the AFC where it
was managed very well, where in the second half, wearing
white jerseys in the snow with the wind whipping around,
it was let's not lose this game and let Jared
Stidam make some mistakes and that's what happened. It was
very conservative, but it was enough. Denver Broncos defense is elite,
(01:08):
just like the Texans defense is elite, but the Patriots
defense does not get enough credit every single week. I'm
gonna talk more about that. What would your takeaway from
the AFC Championship game, and then we'll get to the
NFC one two.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I love the last call they had on that third
down conversion to ice the game, where apparently only Drake
May knew that he was going to take the ball himself.
As I'm watching this game play, I'm thinking, right, was
mcgamee was gonna call here?
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Like? They got to keep the ball on the ground,
they got to kill the clock. And then I'm like,
what it is, Drake May? They gonna let him throw
and then of course they do the option where he
could throw if he wants to. It's a bootleg and
just a fantastic play call. Whether it was Drake May,
that was all Drake May or McDaniel's a total Drake May.
But don't tell that the other players that were gonna
do this. Just a great finish to that game. But
I do kind of question what that game would have
(01:54):
turned out to be if it was bon Nicks and
not Jared Stdn't. I don't think that really crushed.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Den work if Sean Payton hadn't had his head up
his rear end and kicked the field goal knowing that
points will be at a premium with the weather looming
and Jared's didn't playing quarterback. For you, what is Sean
Payton thinking about there? To me, that has been the
death knell of all these teams with this fourth down
nonsense instead of taking points we talked about in the
regular season, we talked about in the postseason, and it
(02:19):
happened again. And honestly, I'm hanging this one on Sean Payton.
Forget the what if bo Nicks. Sean Payton had a
chance here and he blew it because he didn't take
into account enough that Jared Sidham was playing quarterback and
the weather that was coming in the second half was
going to be such a problem. I have silenced Andrew
Erickson after all these years, for the first time ever.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
He doesn't have the meteorologists on speed dial.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Apparently, Oh, come on, you know that they know these
guys know who fish in the locker room. They know
what goes they know exactly what's going on at all times,
what they have to prepare for.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
But you have to remember, if Sean Payton's the offensive guy, right,
he's offensive play callers. So like, that's one of the
big differences we saw both to play callers lose this
past weekend, and it goes down to well, I would
say Sean McVay too, like didn't have his best game
in terms of play calling, in terms of game management
making the right decisions. So I know that we've been
so focused, especially with this coaching carousels like gotta get
(03:16):
offensive guy, you gotta get offensive guy, Gotta Gevin's guy
who's playing the Super Bowl this week?
Speaker 1 (03:20):
No coaches, right, right, let's talk about Mike McDaniel. Let's
talk about this other game. I have to say, after
the Tarik Woolen moment of the penalty and then immediately
they attacked him and Pookinakoa caught that touchdown, I thought
the worm might have turned in that game. And once
again you could boil it down to the special teams
(03:41):
of the Rams continue to be their undoing. They got
to fix it in the off season. And if you
take you know, if he catches that ball and secures
it like normal and you drive down the field or
even punt, you're not giving them that field position. It
turned into another seven and that's seven ended up being
the difference in this game. Uh And to me, my
big takeaways, they got to figure out these special teams
in the offseason.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
The Rams, yeah, I would agree, was there Achilles heel
all year long. And that's been where Seattle has been
so stand out when it comes to their special teams.
It honestly reminds you a lot of Rashi Shaheed and
his acquisition and even though he hasn't really made this
big impact, it reminds you of that Seattle team that
won the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos. Who is
their big special teams acquisition. He basically did nothing offensively
(04:23):
all year. Percy Harvin, what do you do? He had
that one kickoff return to the Super Bowl ice the
game made it basically impossible for Never to come back.
That was like his only contribution in the entire year,
because I think he was hurt for most of the season.
But special teams, Yeah, that's a big thing that the
Patriots are gonna have to overcome again. Even in the
kicking game, right, you have a rookie kicker. That is
where the Patriots are going to bat with with one
of the more experienced kickers in the NFL with the
(04:45):
Seahawks kicker. So yeah, just another factor to kind of
analyze when we're breaking down the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Yeah, and he was hurt for most of the season
and then high for the other part of the season,
Percy Harvin pretty much. So you know, I want to
give some shout out and love to Sam Tartle too,
because peop are gonna whatever's coming next here in the show.
Before we even get to that. Sam Darnald's done a
great job this year. Seattle defense is terrific. They deserve
that one seed, they deserve that division, they deserve to
(05:11):
win that game. They earned all of those things. And
Sam Donald's journey has been a rocky one and I
think it's great to see him go ahead and do
what he's done here. There's gonna be some butts coming.
Just before we get to the butts, I want to
talk about our sponsor, and that is hard Rock Bet
before we get to the lines here of what the
Super Bowl looks like, because hard Rock Bet is here
for you. And right now, we've got Seahawks, we've got

(06:37):
in Florida, I call one eight three to three play wise.
In Indiana, if you are someone you know as a
gambling problem wants help, called one eight hundred and nine
with it gambling problem called one hundred gambler in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan,
New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia. All right, let's get into
it here. Let's talk about this early line, because I've
already bet it. I'm already into it. And the early
line is a very simple one, which is right now,
(06:59):
we've got basically a four and a half line. It's
some spots you can get five and a half. The
Patriots are obviously underdogs here. That's what we're getting. And
to me here that feels in my mind. I said, okay,
three and a half, and then I saw it four
and a half, and I said, Okay, that'll give it
a little bit of a Maybe it starts to get
a little tighter here in the next two weeks as
people kind of dissect this game a little bit. What
(07:22):
was the number in your head, Andrew? Before we get
to our take on the four and a half, which
is kind of what we're seeing right now in most.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Markets, mimas closer to three three and a half points
for Seattle to be favorites.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
It's three and a half for me to do England Patriots.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
I know that I talked about on one of the
live teams to do with Perault where this was before
even the divisional round. I thought that if it was
gonna be Rams Patriots super Bowl, it would be Rams
four and a half point favorites. And Parl thought that
was a ridiculous line and thought that I would get
buried if I open up my Andrew Action Sports book.
It was taking taking Rams binds four and a half
(07:57):
because all the money would pour in on the Patriots.
So we did see these lines move a little bit
because I think we actually saw some Patriots like plus
five plus five and a half or the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
They're still getting in a couple places I find.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Okay, yeah, still so I still think that's too big
of a line. It's kind of like no man's land
right where just kind of like when we zoom out
of this game, it's either going to be Patriots probably
win a close one by field goal or the Seahawks
destroy them, right, Because that's kind of think that would
be likely to income. So the fact that the line
is at four and a half, it's kind of middling, right,
And I guess that's how the line is created, like
(08:29):
based off the projection and the perspective, But realistically you're
better off just bidding Patriot's money line to win out right,
or Seahawks to win by more than a touchdown. Like
that's kind of the way that I view this particular matchum,
because it's kind of just how Seattle is played most
of the games. Either kill the other team or it's
a nail bier that's a field goal decided game.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah, I'm with you. Oh, so let's talk about it,
because I think what you're seeing here is, you know,
the Seattle Rams game is very exciting. A lot of narratives,
they are a lot of emotion. Yeah, the Cooper Cup
emotional moments in there to his old team. You have
the fact that these are division rivals the third time
they're playing this year. To me, oftentimes, when we have
a championship game like that, that's so emotional, it's a
bit of a letdown when you get to the super Bowl. Okay,
(09:10):
it's just a matter of fact. Okay, some teams when
they let all hang out there and they feel like, well,
this was our super Bowl, Like we played the Rams,
we beat the Rams. Again, You're like, this is our
thing we did in our building. Big emotions, big highs,
and then you got to kind of travel and you know,
reset your brain a little bit. And I know it's closer,
and I'm sure Seattle fans will be traveling to Santa Clara.
It's easier trip than all those Patriot fans will have
(09:32):
to make. But despite the fact that the Seattle defense
is so good and they are, I want to also
talk for a moment about the Patriots defense. Now, the
Patriots defense in the playoffs has given up twenty six
points total in three games. Last night, the Seattle Seahaws
gave up twenty seven in one. So let's just talk
(09:52):
about that for a second. The Patriots unit continues to
be disrespected, and when they are healthy, they are one
of the best in the league against the run. We
already know that statistically speaking, coverage wise, Jones, Gonzales, they
have some really good players in the secondary. We'll see
Spalane's health and see how that works out to fingers
crossed for that. But Andrew, you know, they played the
(10:12):
Houston Texans defense, I think the best unit in the league.
They beat them. I would say the Denver Broncos won
one a right there with them. They etched out a victory.
Call it whatever it is. You could say they don't
play anybody. But when you look at what Seattle in
terms of their schedule and who they've played now, they
beat the Houston Texans. Right that was Week seven. Let's
talk about after Week seven for the Seattle Seahawks. They
(10:33):
beat Washington okay, great, roll my eyes. They beat the
Arizona Cardinals. They lost to the Rams. Then they beat
the Tennessee Titans, big whoop. They beat the Minnesota Vikings
when they were having all kinds of problems at the
end of November. They could not see straight that team.
They shut them out. The Atlanta Falcons end up firing
their coach. They pounded on them. They beat the Indianapolis Colts,
a team that didn't have Daniel Jones at that point
(10:55):
in the season. In December, Los Angeles Rams, they won
in overtime. It took them in overtime to win in
their own building. Carolina Panthers, they are playoff team, a
playoff team with a losing record. Then the San Francisco
forty nine Ers, obviously they pummeled them twice end of
the season and then again in the playoffs. But you
know this narrative that Patriots haven't beaten anybody, you haven't
played anybody. I look at the Seahawks record, and the Seahawks,
(11:16):
just like the Patriots, you can only beat who's in
front of you. Color me unimpressed by the stretch running
the Seahawks and all these glorious teams that they've beaten
up on. That's my take. Give me yours.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
I think that you bring up some good points about
the Seahawks schedule, especially when you look at I think
that Rams and forty nine Ers, they you look at
those opponents and you look at those matchups and you think,
oh man, these were like really tough games, and again
the Rams Seahawks games went down to the wire, really
close games, all three of them, but the forty nine
Ers didn't have a defense the last two times the
Seahawks have played them, and the first time they played
(11:49):
a healthy forty nine Ers they lost. That was one
of the three losses that the Seahawks have had this season.
So I still want to give them credit for facing
the Rams and beating the Rams multiple times, like that
is no easy feet absolute because the Rams will be
also favorite against the Patriots if they were playing this
weekend and not the Seattles or Super Bowl weekend and
not the Seattle Seahawks. So I don't think that it's
wrong that the Seahawks are heavy favorites here. But yeah,
(12:12):
I think that maybe using that as the narrative to
fade the Patriots, oh they haven't played any to be
good again, that I don't think that is probably the
best reason to faith if you want to fade them,
like based on x's and o's and schematics, Like, I'm
all for hearing that type of argument, but not just oh, well,
who have they played? Well, they've played different opponents in
the playoffs because they weren't facing top tier defenses, but
then you've seen their defense step up and play significantly better.
(12:35):
Now it's a tough draw in Super Bowl because I
do believe that this is by far the best team
that the Patriots have faced all year is the Seattle Seahawks,
because they have a defense, and I think that their
offense is better than the Chargers, the Texans, and the
Broncos without Bonix. I don't know if you would disagree
with that.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Agree with that? Yeah, I agree with that. Look, I
jumped on the four and a half. I think it
is an early value. I could see the shrinking over
time to three and a half, just as money comes in.
I think, now, if you know, if you're on the
Patriots side, like I am on this one, like in
my head, I'm already getting an extra point. I think
Andrew is correct. I think it's either a Seattle blows
their doors off and it's an embarrassing loss, or it's
(13:12):
a grind out game in the Pats win. I don't
think there's a grind out game the Seattle wins. I
just don't think so. I also watched Sam Donald take
some big sacks in that game, some big sacks or
some big losses and some big moments, and I still
don't love that about Sam Donald's game. Okay, I just
want to put that out there. I also think this
Patriots defense matches up very well with them. You have
(13:32):
good coverage corners, they have Jackson Smith and Jig, but
you're not gonna stop them. But if you can slow
him down, and you can't let them run the football
because obviously the Patriots are so good, like there's Milton
Willions is so good upfront at group is so hungry
up front. That becomes a problem because now all of
a sudden, Sam Donald's got to beat you with the
extra guys, and I'm not one hundred percent sold you
(13:54):
could do that. I also think this road warrior mentality,
the Warriors come out and play that whole thing. I
think that stuff is real. They are nine and oh,
the first team ever to be nine and oh on
the road in a season. They love being this road
underdog kind of mentality. I think they're gonna love being
underdogs by this amount. I think Varibel's gonna play into
(14:15):
it with these guys, and I think it's a distinct
advantage because there's such underdogs in this game. It reminds
me a lot of that first Super Bowl with the
Patriots and the Tom Brady run there where everybody thought
the Rams are just gonna blow their doors off, and
they grind it and grind it in the very Mic
Rabel style kind of game, and they grind it out
of victory. And sure you could say that they have
(14:38):
more talent on the roster of the Seattle Seahawks. I'm
never gonna argue that, but I think everything falls in
the hands here for the Patriots to win this football game. Andrew,
I'm oddly confident about it. I've been confident in the
last couple of weeks and I haven't been wrong. So
I'm just gonna keep riding this wave where I actually,
in a lot of ways, I was more afraid of
the Rams of Matthew Stafford than I am of Sam
Darnold and the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, I know. We were texting back and forth after
the Patriots won, who do we want them to face
in the Super Bowl and both kind of agreed like, yeah,
we want we want Sam Donald, we want the Seattle Seahawks.
You think we match up better against them? And look,
Sam Donald balled out against the Rams like he put
the Ghosts to rest in that game because the Rams
had owned him. He had thrown he had thrown seven
(15:17):
interceptions in the last three games, and he was masterful,
even though he did take some big hits in that game.
But ultimately, when push comes a shove, like you said,
if you can get Christian Zalz to slow down JSN,
if you can neutralize Ken Walker in the run game
with his elite Pats run defense, and you put the
ball in Sam Donald's hands. Yes, he showed last week
I can win those games, but we've also seen Sam
(15:39):
Donald lose those games. And look, give him all the credit.
This would be, you know, a full circle moment with
Sam Donald where it's the team that he sees Ghosts
against in twenty nineteen or whatever year was that, the
New York Jets is the team that he beats in
the Super Bowl. Then he deserves that win. And I'll
be happy for Sam Donald. But that's if and butts right,
if he can actually do that and execute like he
did in the NFC Championship game, So we'll see. I
(16:00):
think the Patriots defense is better than the Rams defense
overall earlier.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Where they're comense, they're a better unit, and they don't
have the special teams issues that the Rams have either.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, I would say Marcus Jones is an asset in
terms of how he's abailble to he use them as
a punt returner, So it's not just Shaheed that can
kind of change short fields make up big explosive plays.
And the other thing too, that thought was kind of interesting.
We look at super Bowl experience, right, So the Patriots,
from at least what I was looking at, they have
more guys and coaches that have super Bowl experience. Milton
(16:33):
Williams played in the Super Bowl last year for the
Philadelphia Eagles won. Carlton Davis with the Buccaneers, He's played
in Super Bowl four. He's super Bowl champion. Mike Rabel,
Josh McDaniels, Mac Collins even played in a Super Bowl
with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now wasn't a significant role, but
still you have a bunch of guys on both coaching
defense offense that have some spare experience, whereas with the
(16:55):
Seahawks it's just like Cooper cup and Cam Akers that
that I was kind of looking at, and those guys
were with Rams previously, so obviously a little bit there
but I don't know if.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Coaches one stands out to me. Yeah that that Yeah,
it's the coaching experience in that Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
And Daniels knows how to call Super Bowl like he's
called bad ones, he's called good one like he's been.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Yeah, so I think that matters. I think how you
prepare in the next two weeks. It's very weird, and
you know, the media days and all this stuff, like
it's it's a lot. It's a lot of family stuff.
It's a lot of media stuff and the preparation for
the game. Look, and I know people are gonna watch
it and say, oh, these two homers for the Patriots,
And you can say whatever you want. I don't care.
I want to win money, okay. And I had bet
(17:33):
on the Patriots already at the beginning of this process
to go to the Super Bowl, and I bet on
the Rams to go to the super Bowl. And I
was wrong about the Rams. I feared the Rams more
than I feared the Seattle Seahawks for again a myriad
of reasons. Because Matthew Stafford, when you watched him play yesterday,
he was playing inspired foot like he just you know,
Matthew Stafford, I just thought would be this guy that
(17:53):
would go out here with the bang. He's not there.
I also fear Sean McVay, another guy who has coached
in a Super Bowl. Right, So that's another concern for me.
Won a Super Bowl, lost a Super Bowl. He knows
what to do and what not to do, right, So
to me, that does matter. And I think it's gonna
be an I think it's gonna be an entertaining game,
especially if you like some defense, and I like some defense.
I'm a big fan. Let's take a look at the
(18:15):
money line here. You're getting plus two hundred in some
markets already on the Pats. Again, I like the Pats
with the points. If you get five and a half,
great four and a half, Okay, cool, I would do
it now, Pats on the money line. I think the
best bet is also you get almost three to one
in some markets for or two and a half to
one for Drake May's Super Bowl MVP. Because if you
think the Patriots are gonna win, I'm hard pressed to
think anybody else's MVP is igh Strake May. It's just
(18:36):
that weird things happen. I don't think it would be that.
I just don't think it's gonna be a defensive player.
I don't think it's gonna be Stephan Diggs. I mean,
it's just an oddity. It's hard to get away for
the quarterback the total though, Andrew, you're getting forty five
and a half for the over, forty six and a
half for the under. I'm not there yet on this one.
If I had to, I would lean slightly towards the
(18:57):
over here, but I am just straight up on the
side of this year with the points. Where are you
at with the over under?
Speaker 2 (19:03):
I think that the line is really sharp because I
can kind of see a couple of different angles. I
do know that we'll probably see this line go up,
just because as more casual betters get in when the
Super Bowls approaching, they're not gonna blink twice to bet
the over on the total of the game. So if
you're looking to bet the under like me, I think
that you probably want to wait for this line to move.
(19:24):
I could go either way with it right now if
there's something I want to dive a little bit deeper into.
But if the Patriots defense shows out, then it's a
pretty easy case to say, hey, this will be a
game that underperforms. We're not playing in dome conditions, so
that's something to keep in mind too. We are outdoors
at Santa Clara, so I know Weather's played a lot
of big roles. They're hoping that that doesn't play a role,
but it can rain, like we don't know what the
weather's gonna be like two weeks out, so obviously getting
(19:45):
some exposure to the under could could potentially be beneficial.
I do want to say one last thing too, when
it comes to just the recency bias of the Seattle Seahawks,
Mike McDonald is eight to oher in rematches, so when
if he's gotten a second chance at an opponent, especially
with these rematches against the Rams, against the forty nine ers,
against the Cardinals, it's like they've just dominated those games.
(20:08):
So the fact that this is the first time he's
facing the Patriot yet maybe you don't see much as
much domination. Again, remember he went to the Seahawks, hired
him because they knew he could beat Shanahan's offense, which
is a stem of Sean mcvay's offense, which I don't
really see it the same way with Josh mcganiel's offense.
So that's something to also keep in mind that, yes,
they are Juggernaut because they've been He's been selected to
(20:30):
beat those teams in his division. Now you're not in
the division anymore, you're not in the conference anymore. You're
facing a totally different offensive with a second year quarterback
with mobility. It's a different draw for the Seahawks defense.
So that's something I'm really interested to see. So I
agree with you. I think that on a value perspective, Look,
Pat's money line is plus two hundred. Seahawks win by
more than a touchdown is plus one twenty. So just
(20:52):
making from a value proposition, how I see this game
playing out, you get the most bang for your bucketing,
take Patriots on the money line.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
I like it. I think you take Pats on the
money line. If someplaces like your parlay at two where
you can get Drake May his MVP, I like that
as well. I think it's gonna be a good game.
And again I feel like I'm being negative about the Seahawks.
I'm not what I'm trying to be, and I think
what Andrew's trying to be is a little realistic because
we see them keep beating up on the Rams and
we're super impressed, and we should be. The Rams are
(21:19):
a good football team, but the Rams are not perfect.
The Rams continue to let teams hang around. The Rams
barely got through the Panthers. They barely escaped Chicago with
the w They let teams hang around. And when you
have bad special teams and you have some bad moments there,
it's gonna eventually turn into bad scenarios for your defense.
So I'm not surprised by what happened at all, But
(21:40):
looking at the Seattle schedule, I'm not looking at that way.
They had these monumental victories, and don't give me the
forty nine ers. Don't give me the forty nine ers.
The forty nine ers is not impressive. The forty nine
ers also a team that had one of the easiest
schedules in football, and they faced a real defense that
was built to stop them, and they kicked the crap
out of them twice in the last month. So don't
give me the forty nine ers. Ton of injuries, to
(22:00):
a ton of issues, lots of problems though George Kittle
in that last game, just a lot of problems. Okay,
So again, you can only beat who they put in
front of you, but I think this underdog and error
for the Patriots is very dangerous. I also don't think
that Mike Rabel is gonna lose to a ginger quarterback.
Let's just put that out there. You think he's gonna
lose to a ginger Mike Crable. There's certain pride you
(22:24):
have to have. You can't lose to a ginger quarterback. Look,
Sam Darnold said, a great job. My good friend put
it in perspective. He's a Jets fan. He had to
me the social media post of the weekend, which is
as a Jets fan, I could not be more miserable.
I have to watch Sam Donald play against the Patriots
in a Super Bowl, he said, and I'm rooting for
(22:45):
the Asteroid. That's what he said. That says it all.
That says it all. So obviously we're gonna have a

great to talk to you about our first take on
this Super Bowl. Some great stats, some great numbers, some
great breakdowns. But again, drop your comments below. We love
hearing from all of you. Are you on the Seahawks,
You're on the Patriots? Why we want to know? Let's
(24:13):
go put these two in their place? Tell us why
are we wrong? I love to hear it. I get it.
Seattle's a great defense. I understand Sam Darnold's played really well.
Patriots defense continues to and they're gonna do it again.
They talked about the Texans and the pass defense took
it personally. They talked about the Denver Broncos defense all week.
Pass defense took it personally. And for two weeks you're
gonna hear nothing but the Seattle Seahawks defense. Yeah, and
(24:36):
they are great and the Patriots defense will take it personally. Again.
I'm just spiding you out there.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
I do like from the Patriots standpoint fact that they're underdogs,
five straight Super Bowl underdogs. Joe, I'll cover the spread five.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Straight love that all right. That'll do it for us,
but the story of the game goes on for Andrew
Ericson I'm Joey p. We'll see you next time. Kids.
We got a long way here, but more bets coming
for Super Bowl Seattle Seahawks.
