Speaker 1 (00:01):
News when you want it with Bloomberg News. Now, I'm
Doug Prisner, and we begin in Los Angeles, where a
judge has re sentenced Eric and Lyle Menendez to fifty
years to life with a possibility of parole for the
nineteen eighty nine murders of their parents. This order brings
the brothers a step closer to freedom. After a day
of emotional testimony, the court heard from three family members,
(00:24):
as well as a retired judge familiar with the brother's
work in prison, and a former inmate who credits their
mentorship for his rehabilitation and release. Defense attorney Mark Arragos
credits Judge Michael Jessic for making the correct ruling.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
He did what justice said should happen, and he struck
the special circumstance and he sentenced them to fifty to life,
which means they're immediately eligible.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
That was defense attorney Mark Geragos. Now, the decision as
to whether or not to release the brothers goes to
the California Parole Board and Governor Gavin Yue. We go
to the Middle East next, where President Trump is on
a state visit to Saudi Arabia, and it was there
the President said he will lift US sanctions on Syria
following the fall of Bershard al Assad's regime. Here is
(01:14):
Trump speaking at the Saudi US Investment Summit in Riod.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
With President Ernigan of Turkey, who called me the other
day and s for a very similar thing among others
and friends of mine, people that have a lot of
respect for in the Middle East. I will be ordering
the cessation of sanctions against Syria in order to give
them a chance at great this.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Trump will be meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al Sharah
on Wednesday. Now this signals a potential reopening of diplomatic
ties between these two nations after years of war and isolation.
Also at the summit, President Trump and Saudi Crown Prince
Mohammed bin Salman announced plans for one trillion dollars in
commercial deals. However, there was a discrepancy over the numbers,
(02:01):
as conference signage listed deals totaling just over three hundred
billion dollars. Earlier Tuesday, the White House sighted the figure
at six hundred billion dollars. Bloomberg's Nick Wadhams says the
details of this deal will be important now.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
The process begins that we're just sort of in the
thick of sorting through how much of this is actually new?
You know a lot of times it wouldn't be just
necessarily Donald Trump, but presidents going back decades have packaged
deals like this, stitched together previously announced and previously committed stuff.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
That is Bloomberg's Nick Watams in Washington Now. The White
House says these new deals aimed to boost US industries
in energy, defense, and technology, as well as to provide
access to key global resources. Now, the full details of
the announced investments were not immediately available. Chip makers Nvidia
and Advanced micro Devices will supply advanced chips to Saudi
(02:55):
Arabia state backed AI firm Humane. This is part of
a ten billion dollar data center project. The deal follows
a new US initiative easing chip export restrictions to Middle
Eastern allies. Bloomberg's and Marie hor Dern is on the
ground in Riod, Saudi Arabia.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Jensen Wang there, he's at this dinner. When he walked in,
I asked him, we thought about the diffusion rule I
talked to him about in Washington, DC a few weeks
ago before this administration rescinded it. And he looked at me.
He said rescinded, canceled. We are hearing that they, of course,
we're going to get potentially those advanced high tech chips
in places like Saudi Arabia, and our colleagues have reported
about maybe more than one hundred million chips in tonight
(03:34):
at Arab Emirates. The President is headed there later in
the week.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
That is Bloomberg's and Marie Hordern in Riod Humane is
planning to build nearly two gigawatts of AI infrastructure by
twenty thirty, and Vidia says the project will use hundreds
of thousands of its processors, starting with its latest Grace
Blackwell chips. Today's shares in both in Nvidia and AMD
row sharply on the news. The conversation on the GOP
(03:59):
tax bill to deliver on President Trump's campaign pledge is ongoing. However,
the salt cap and medicaid cuts still divide the GOP.
House Speaker Mike Johnson says House Republicans could land on
a compromise on the state and local tax deduction. On Wednesday,
Michigan Congress, when Lisa McClain says the bill still needs
(04:20):
to pass despite disagreements in the House.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
We have a representative government, and whether you're representing a
bread state or a blue state, or a purple state,
or a district, you need to represent your district. And
that's what the Salt Caucus is doing. So I respect
them for doing what they're doing, but we all need
to get into reality that we have to get this
bill done for the American people.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
That is Michigan Congresswoman Lisa McClain speaking there. A federal
grand jury has indicted a Wisconsin judge accused of helping
an undocumented migrant evade authorities. It was last month at
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested on charges
of concealing a person from arrest and obstruction of proceedings.
(05:05):
The ruling now allows the case against Dugan to continue.
Harvard University has expanded its lawsuit against the Trump administration
for freezing billions of dollars in federal funds. Now this
ratchets up the high stakes legal battle between the wealthiest
US university and the White House. We go to sports next,
where Pete Rose and Chulas Joe Jackson have been reinstated
(05:28):
by Major League Baseball, making them both eligible for Baseball's
Hall of fame, and that is news when you want it,
with Bloomberg News. Now, I'm Doug Prisner, and this is
