Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the episode one hundred and twenty one of
Bringing Heaven Down. My name is Tim and I'm the
host of this daily devotional podcast. Thank you for choosing
Jesus today. Recently, we've really been discussing a lot of
gender roles. The Biblical Manhood and Biblical Womanhood podcast has

(00:22):
been released this week episodes one hundred and nineteen and
episodes one hundred and twenty And I think these topics
are so valuable today because there are so many people
that want to disregard the complementary differences between the two

(00:50):
genders when they were made to be complimentary, not inferior
to one another, but complimentary. And when you hear that word,
so many people turn to the exact opposite extreme, saying,
you're saying men can do this, well, yes I am,

(01:13):
but I'm also saying men can't do this, and this
is what the woman can do. And today I want
to discuss the fall that happened in Genesis, because when
God is walking in the garden, the roles are very

(01:33):
clear in this story. So Genesis chapter three, it says this,
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the
wild animals. The Lord God had made, He said to
the woman, did God really say you must not eat
from any tree in the garden. The woman said to
the serpent, we may eat from the trees in the garden.

(01:56):
But God did say you must not eat fruit from
the tree that is in the middle of the garden,
and you must not touch it, or you will die.
You will not certainly die, the serpent said to the woman,
for God knows that when you eat from it, your
eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,
knowing good and evil. When the woman saw that the

(02:19):
fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing
to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she
took some and ate it. She also gave it to
her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and
they realized they were naked, so they sewed fig leaves

(02:40):
together and made coverings for themselves. So the story tells
us that the serpent Satan tricked Eve into eating the apple,
and then Eve gave the apple to her husband and
he ate it too. Verse eight. Then the man and

(03:03):
his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as
he was walking in the garden in the cool of
the day, and they hid from the Lord God among
the trees of the garden. But the Lord called to
the man, where are you? He answered, I heard you
in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked,
so I hid. And he said, who told you that

(03:26):
you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that
I commanded you not to eat from? The man said,
the woman you put here with me. She gave me
some fruit from the tree and I ate it. Then
the Lord God said to the woman, what is this
you have done? The woman said, the servant deceived me
and I ate. So when the Lord God is walking

(03:49):
through the garden, he is looking for Adam, and he
asks Adam, where are you? Because Adam is spiritually responsible
for their family, he must know what's going on. God
also asks Eve, what is this you have done? But

(04:14):
when the Lord God was walking through the garden, he
was looking for Adam. And this is a great illustration
of the differences between man and woman, because the man
is responsible for protection and God as he's walking, asks

(04:43):
the protector Adam, where are you? And then Adam, being
the guy that he is, points the finger at his wife.
It's like, nah, she did it. She did it. Although
Eve was deceived, Adam was responsible for not protecting his

(05:08):
wife from the deceiver. And I think this is just
a really good story that illustrates the role of the man.
Adam lost sight of his wife and she was deceived,

(05:28):
and if he was fulfilling his role of protecting her,
then this story could have turned out differently. Thank you
for choosing Jesus today and I hope the Holy Spirit
reveals more and more about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
