Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into episode one hundred and twenty nine of Bring
Heaven Down. My name is Tim and I'm the host
of this daily devotional podcast that shows up in your
feed Monday through Friday. If you have a question a topic,
you can email the show Bring Heaven Down number seven
(00:21):
at gmail dot com. That's Bring Heaven Down number seven
at gmail dot com. I love hearing from you, and
I would love to discuss anything that you would like
me to talk about. Today. I want to continue our
series on parenting, our responsibility to parent our children and
(00:45):
how to do that in a godly way, And today
I just want to talk about a thought that entered
my mind last night as I was putting my twenty
two two month old son to bed. He'll be two
at the end of January. And it really is a
(01:08):
thought I think that will really help you get through
the tough days. And it's not really a thought that's
never been thought of before, or some crazy idea that
(01:29):
nobody's ever said. But as I was rocking in the
chair with my son, I all of a sudden had
this image of seeing my son as a grown adult,
and in this image, I also was a grown adult,
(01:50):
and I was looking back on the times when I
used to rock him to bed and put him to sleep,
and when that image came into my mind, I'm getting
a little emotional just thinking about it. It's like everyone
(02:12):
that you know tells you just how quick this season
goes by. All this time goes by fast when you
have three young kids, But in the moment, it certainly
doesn't feel fast. When your three year old is having
a meltdown and you're almost two year old is reacting
to that meltdown and your newborn baby is crying, that
(02:36):
moment does not fly by. But what helps to navigate
the difficult moments is having a heart of gratitude through
those moments. Even though our toddler was having a tempered
(03:01):
tantrum the other day and it was uncontrollable, I can
still have a sense of gratitude through this moment, because
there is going to be a day when they are
adults and I'm sixty years old, and I will be
(03:25):
wishing back the moment that we are in right now.
So the Bible verse that I want to apply is
first Thessalonians five verses eighteen. It says, give thanks in
all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in
(03:47):
Christ Jesus. It's tough to give thanks when your toddler
is having a meltdown and your house is chaotic. But
the image I had of seeing my son as a
grown adult and wishing back the moments where I could
(04:10):
just rock him to sleep was a circumstance where I
was thankful. Another way of looking at it is I
am never going to spend more time with my own
kids and my wife, all of us together than we
(04:33):
are right now, because as they get older, they get interest,
they play sports, they have friends. So in the TV
show The Office, there is a moment where Andy says this,
I wish there was a way to know you're in
the good old days before you actually left them. And
(05:00):
that is my situation right now, because there will be
a day when I wish back this moment, these moments,
and a day is coming when our children are adults
and you don't see them as often. So that's just
(05:24):
kind of where my heart was, and I just hope
that it was encouraging for you in whatever aspect of
life that you are currently in. Thank you for tuning
in and help you all have a wonderful day.
