Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into episode one one hundred and thirty four of
Bring Heaven Down. My name is Tim and I'm the
host of this daily devotional podcast. Thank you for choosing
Jesus today. Recently we've been going through the Ten Commandments,
which was a request by a listener, So if you
have a request or a topic or a question, you

(00:24):
can email the show Bring Heaven Down number seven at
gmail dot com. That's Bring Heaven Down number seven at
gmail dot com. At today, we are on Commandment number three.
If you want to go back and listen to the
first two, it is episodes one hundred and thirty two

(00:46):
and episodes one hundred and thirty three. And the third
commandment is very specific. You shall not take the Lord
your God's name in vain, which basically means you should
not use his name disrespectfully. When Jesus taught his disciples

(01:13):
how to pray with the Lord's prayer, in the Lord's
Prayer itself, it says, Hollywood be your name, and unfortunately
God's name is so often taken in vain. You step

(01:33):
into a public setting for all of ten seconds, and
all you here are all my gods, This all my gods,
this j E. S U. S. Chrisd. This the irreverence
for God's name is rare, and what's so said about

(01:56):
it is that it's become such a casual thing that
so many people don't even understand what they're saying when
they're saying it. Jesus has the name above all names
at which every nie shall bow, And when we take

(02:17):
the name Christian upon ourselves, we must do so with
an understanding of all that signifies. If we profess to
be Christians but act to think and speak in a
wordly or profane manner, we take his name in vain
when we misrepresent Christ, either intentionally or through ignorance. We

(02:43):
take the Lord's name in vain. When we say we
love him but do not do what he commands. We
take his name in vain and are possibly identifying ourselves
to be among those to whom Christ will say, I
never knew you away from me. I got that note

(03:04):
from God, questions dot Org. So what that is saying?
Of course, the oh my Gods are disrespectful and are
not using his name appropriately. But taking his name in
vain goes beyond his name. It goes toward how we

(03:30):
represent him as followers of Jesus because our job as
followers of Jesus is to look distinctively different than people
that aren't. Our job is to represent Jesus in the

(03:53):
world because the last thing that we want to do
is say we're Christian walk around. Eventually it gets out
that we know Jesus and then they're shocked by the
fact that we know Jesus. That should be one of

(04:20):
our worst nightmares, because if people around us don't know
that we know Jesus by the way we act or
by the way we talk, then we're not doing a
good job of representing him. Then we are looking how

(04:40):
the world wants us to look. I hope this episode
was encouraging for you today, and I hope we all,
including myself, can be more intentional in representing Jesus in
our everyday lives. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
