Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome into episode one hundred and thirty five of Bring
Heaven Down. My name is Tim, and today we are
continuing our series in the Ten Commandments, and today we
are on Commandment number four. And what Commandment number four
says is remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.

(00:30):
And what's so interesting about this particular commandment is that
when I was younger, you don't fully grasp the importance
or meaning behind the fourth commandment. And now it is

(00:52):
one of my favorite commands within the entire Bible, and
particularly within the Ten Commandments. And I'm going to explain why.
The reason for this commandment is because of the way

(01:18):
God designed the world In six days, the Lord made
the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that
is in them. But he rested on the seventh day. Therefore,
the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

(01:39):
And what's so interesting about this command is that the
Lord didn't arrest because he was tired. He's God. He
rested to set the example for his followers. And now

(02:02):
there are studies that tell us just how important it
is to take a day off of rest. As if
the Bible didn't have this study thousands of years ago.
Science is starting to catch up. Good for you science,
which is pretty cool because in a world where it

(02:27):
seems that science is trying to destroy or prove the
Bible inaccurate, there are more and more instances every year
where science is actually proving the Bible correct. I've seen
both sides of this command. When I lived in the

(02:50):
District of Columbia that is Washington, DC, I worked seven
days a week for about a year and a half,
every single day Monday through Sunday, just grinding because the
rent was fifteen hundred dollars and it was expensive to
live where I was living by myself, and mathematically it

(03:18):
just made more sense to work and not waste a
day of work so that I could pay rent, pay
my bills, eat food, and live comfortably. But then a
year and a half later came and I'm just mentally

(03:40):
and physically exhausted, and I had a relationship with Jesus,
although I put him on the back burner because I
wanted to work. Instead, I started going to church and
I took Sundays off nowhere, and it was my day

(04:04):
of rest where I could pause and take a moment
to breathe, reflect, be grateful and honor God and do
what he commands. And the difference between working seven days

(04:28):
a week and six days a week and taking that
Sunday off was monumental is monumental. I mean we're talking
about night and day difference. It's only a one day,
but it is a massive difference. And I think about

(04:51):
where I was when I was working seven days a
week and then where I was when I was working
six days a week, And to take a day to
not work, to set it aside is vital not only
for worshiping and honoring and listening to God, but the

(05:12):
reason why he did that is because He knows what's
best for us. And to put your body through the
challenge of working seven days a week is not healthy,
and he that is God knows it. So if you
are someone that likes to put their nose to the
grindstone and just go, go, go, go go, you must

(05:36):
highly consider taking a day to rest and refresh yourself.
