You could literally write anything in that email and it
will not offend me. So go ahead, email the show
Bring Heaven Down number seven at gmail dot com. I
(00:48):
want to see and hear your thoughts. All right. Today's show,
I want to talk about having a reverence and appropriate
fear fore God. I just received this question the other
day from a youth kid, and I want to answer
(01:09):
it because it is kind of a confusing thing fearing God.
So grab your favorite drink or a cup of coffee,
and let's bring Heaven a little closer together. Over these
next few days. I want to run through the story
(01:31):
of Moses and the Burning Bush because there's different topics
within the story itself. Exodus chapter three one through five.
That's where we're at, and that's where we're gonna stop today.
It says. Now Moses was tending the flock of Jathrow,
his father in law, the priest of Midian, and he
(01:52):
led the flock to the far side of the wilderness
and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. They're the
angel of the Lord of Here to him in flames
of fire from within a bush, Moses saw that though
the bush was on fire, it did not burn up.
So Moses thought, I will go over and see this
(02:12):
strange sight. Why the bush does not burn up. When
the Lord saw that he had gone over the look,
God called to him from within the bush Moses Moses,
and Moses said, here I am, do not come any closer.
God said, take off your sindeals, for the place where
you are standing is holy ground. That was verse five.
(02:35):
In verse five, you see God's response to Moses. He says,
do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for
the place where you are standing is holy ground. What
God is commanding Moses to do in this situation is
to respect him and have a reverence and fear for him,
(02:59):
because God is God, and he deserves what he deserves.
He deserves appropriate respect and fear. And in this moment,
you see Moses respecting and honoring God. And my question is,
(03:19):
how do we apply that to our lives today? Because
way too often what I witness and hear from every
different kind of population, whether they be old or young,
is the misuse of God's holy name when you're in public,
(03:44):
or at work, or at home, or maybe it's you yourself.
How many times do you use the Lord's name in vain?
Oh my God, Oh my God, this, my g that.
And I've really felt convicted about a decision that I've
(04:15):
failed to make, because if someone decided to take my
wife's or my children's name in vain, you better believe
I'm gonna stand up and say, what the heck are
you doing? What is wrong with you? And I'm gonna
stand up for him because I'm the husband and I'm
the dad, and I'm the father, and I'm gonna step
(04:36):
in and protect my family. But when someone uses God's
name in vain, I sit back, I look at it,
and I don't react. And I've really been convicted about that.
And Lord I'm sorry for not standing up for your name.
I do not stand up for God's name enough. I
hear that thrown around so casually, and I just hear it.
(04:59):
And when it gets thrown around casually, people are misusing
God's holy name. And this brings up the question of
how do you respect and honor God's name? Do you
keep his name as holy as it is? Do you
(05:21):
stand up when God's name is misused? I don't. I
could do a way better job of that. And then
that brings up the question of why is it that
we're supposed to fear God? And I'm going to share
with you the same conclusion that I've come to and
(05:44):
have shared with other youth kids, because I think it
resonates with him and I think it will resonate with
all of us. And it's a very simple question because
we think about God and then we're commanded to fear God,
and that the word fear throws us off a little
bit because we're confused by the meaning what it is.
(06:07):
It means a fear God? Does that mean you're suposed
to run away from God? Does it mean that we're
supposed to hide into a corner when God is convicting
us of something. It does not mean that. Here's what
it means, and it's a simple question that I think
frames God in the proper light. And the question is
(06:32):
do you talk to your friends the same way you
talk to your parents? And that really hits for a
middle school boy or girl, because those are those teenage
years where sometimes some people go wayward and are in
that classic my parents don't know anything stage, but I
(06:55):
still think it applies to adults because I personally talk
to my parents a little bit differently than I talk
to my friends. And why is that? It's because I
have a respect, I have a reverence. I have a
fear for my parents that I don't necessarily have for
(07:16):
my group of friends. And that's exactly how God is
supposed to be treated in our life. We are not
supposed to talk to God or respect God the same
amount as we respect our friends. We are supposed to
have a respect and honor, a reverence, a fear for
(07:36):
God that we have for nobody else except for Him,
because he created this world, He created you and me,
and he deserves the respect. He deserves the honor. A
youth could ask me that question on Tuesday this week
(07:58):
why are we supposed to fear God? It's a great question.
It's a question that I've wrestled with a long time,
a long time ago, and that's the conclusion through the
Holy Spirit that's been revealed to me. So I hope
you think about how you're respecting and honoring God, and
(08:20):
maybe language needs to change, maybe a decision needs to
be made, or a conviction needs to be felt, or
maybe you can even take a step of boldness and
defend God's name when it's being misused, take a step
that I personally have not taken. So I hope this
(08:43):
podcast was encouraging for you, and I hope the Holy
Spirit revealed more and more about our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ.
