Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to another episode of Inside the Bus. This
is episode forty six preseason Will Compton number forty six
along with Alfred Morris.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
It's hard to top that. You also have Lee Smith
and Andy Pettitt, Craig Kimberl for a little baseball flavor.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
That's a good one. Uh.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
Pittsburgh Steelers long snapper Christian Kuons Charchers really high school
texted my girlfriend in high school. I hated him for
a long time. Sure he's a nice guy now, all right, No,
it was He's Christian Koon's was like the guy growing
up for high school, for a local high school. He
was just the stud he played at Dukequine and now
he's a long snapper and he has a podcast.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
He's the sickest dude.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
I never got to meet him or anything, but it
was always just like, yeah, that dude.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
He texted cat or he texted your ex girlfriend.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
God, no, one of my first girlfriends, they were like friends.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Do you know what it was at all? Or the message? No?
Speaker 4 (00:49):
I mean they I believe, dude, such high school stuff.
And this girl, I mean she has a family and
a child now, and she was lovely and he's a
lovely guy. I genuinely they were friends because her best
friend went to his and so they became friends there.
But he's also like the guy, and so I'm like, no,
I'm like, you're texted him because he's like a stud
and he's on the Steelers and I'm watching him, like
(01:09):
it's pretty.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Sick, dude. That kind of makes me think of And
this is really wasn't supposed to be a topic. But
I don't know if y'all have any text messages from
ex girlfriends or maybe current girlfriends that just stand out
to you, like whether y'all were in the middle of
a breakup post breakup. I don't know if something jumps out. Matt,
you can answer this too if you want.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I don't have a text per se that pops to mind,
but I remember this is like a slight flex in college,
the game where I made it on top ten and
it was like the next week or I think the
ESPN thing came out Saturday night and then it was
Sunday and that's when I was talking to my college girlfriend.
(01:55):
But my high school girlfriend facetimed me seventy times, like
and I'm like, we're broken up, Stop calling me, Stop
calling me. Like denying every single call. She's like, I
just want to congratulate you for making it on ESPN.
I'm like, thanks, we're good.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
She said, I saw that.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
I want you to know I thought you were a
kiss seventy times? Is it like maybe, yeah, at least
twenty five thirty times. I know Matt's been there before.
It's like, it's not fun to be a part of
it feels good though, you felt like the man. I
kind of felt like, yeah, I just made on ESPN.
Now you want to talk to me. You you're cheated
on a guy who's now on Espnay, that's what you
(02:37):
want to do now we're Yeah, you're good.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
She broke them up. Matt, you got into your No,
mine's mine is not anything crazy. It was just one
time we broke off. I guess like in the middle
of the summer, and then the first week of school,
I just get a text that says screw you with
like a bunch of use at the end, and I
honestly had no idea what it was about. And it's
(03:04):
kind of funny because we end up getting back together.
And then it became sort of like an inside joke
of like if something was just a little bit weird.
We text each other like screw you. But that's the
only one that it always jumps out of my head.
I just remember that feeling. Do you remember or care
to share what happened? Is for her to say that, no,
I honestly have I can't remember at all, like because
(03:27):
clearly it was just a way she wanted to spark
conversation back up.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
It had to be miniscule for her to take it
as a joke later right where I would assume and
you're good friends with your exes.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yeah, I feel like your stomach like did your stomach
like my stomach would have been like.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
My stomach drop. I'm thinking, man, what the heck did
I do? Yeah? Especially in high school? That is so true,
Matt said. For those they couldn't hear me, He said
multiple us though, that's flirting, which I do agree with.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
That's that, bro, that's remember like texting like, hey do
a girl like, how many whys do I put?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Right? Don't misshit of all time? Different generation? Matt, what
did he say? He just went, You're probably just sent
a straight meat first, but.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Meat off the rim.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
I love it, just giggling because you said it softly
but he could hear it very loudly.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, but the episode is not about ex girlfriends. The
episode is about the NFL draft our thoughts on it.
We got to visit Derek's hometown. He got a little
bit betrayed, maybe by their pick Project Pick. I'll let
him get into that coop. Also, I know he felt well,
actually he didn't feel He told us before the pot
(04:38):
he had no longer have feelings. Yeah, due to what
they did. But how far or how far were you
guys staying from where you are originally from?
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Yeah? So where we were staying was extremely close where
he used to live, which I got to show them
the place. But where I'm from is about forty minutes outside.
So yeah, you're go ahead. So you're not from Pittsburgh, So.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
You you how I say I'm from Philly's how you
say you're from Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
I would say it's agree, Yeah you passman Roeville if
people say that. So I had that conversation in college
where I say, H'm from Pittsburgh to anybody that ever
says anything, and then the inner city kids go, well,
what color were you your street signs? Because if they
were blue, that means you were in the city. If
they're green you're in the suburbs, which I totally get
in respect. At the same time, though I lived down there,
for freaking.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
You different because he lived in Pittsburgh, right.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
I never lived in Philly, but I would say you're
from Philly if you're from the surrounding area of where
it goes.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Like, we're good.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
The easiest way to say is like Chef's a Braves fan.
He ain't from Atlanta, but like Jared living outside Atlanta
would say it's from Atlanta. That's how I always view it.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
I'm from Greenville, man, No, you're not. Okay, you're from Brentwood. Man,
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Matt's over there. If you didn't hear me said I
am from Brentwood, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
So I feel like I'm from Dallas. Yeah, twenty minutes though,
and that makes sense as a DFW year to year
from Dallas for sure. I'm from Keller that's basically Fort Worth,
which is basically Dallas'.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Get and to also stamp Derek even more like, how
long have you lived in Nashville?
Speaker 4 (06:10):
This is this will be going on your six I believe.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
And we ran into three people that just saw him
on the street and we're like, Derek, what's going on?
And just the same neighbors from all of his community
back then when he was living in Pittsburgh, and like
they're still there. I'm sure they live in some different places,
but it was just cool to see. That was my
favorite part about Pittsburgh was the neighborhood feel, and we
got the full experience because we walk into a coffee shop.
(06:34):
A guy standing outside d what up. I'm like, he
had been here for six years.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
He's sure I could go to certain spots of Philly
if I know where my boys are living, I'd be like, see,
I'm I'm from here.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
He's bearing the lead too, because we go to the
shop and of course knew two people.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Oh okay, dude, I mean six years though, Like I like,
I wouldn't go back to Braidonton and be walking around
and like see people that I know.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
I mean, he's Pittsburgh motion like I'm not phillyping.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah. Yeah. Also one more shout out to Derek on
his podcast that he had back in Pittsburgh. They did
a going away episode and it was a live, live
show and over one hundred people were there.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
We stuck it in this little corner that I got
to show them. So that's yeah, we were we were
very close to having motion if I understood any of
it at the time. But I showed them, like we
can rec up the whole trip real quick. But the
best part for me was showing them the gym that
we recorded out of the back of in a closet.
And so we had this little closet of the back
(07:40):
probably three forced to the size of the room we're in,
and we had two l tables, our computer, a Golden
tr K game, all that stuff. But like I got
to show him where the live thing happened, and like
everyone was my going away podcast episode. So we had people,
you know, it was standing room only, not a big deal,
but we like it was the coolest thing. And I
had all my buddies from back home. One's a professor
(08:03):
of sports journalism at Ohio College. He texts me. My
old partner's Josh and Greg text me all the thoughts
on the bench. Guys text me and they were just like, hey,
just so you know, we all kind of feel a
version of we made it, because like all that work
went into something that's now happening. It was a very
very like, very blessed, grateful trip that was very very
full circle.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yeah. My I think my favorite part is basically what else.
I just didn't realize that the city that there had
that neighborhood feel because I've never been to Pittsburgh. Yeah,
mister Rogers, baby, mister Rogers exactly. So it was cool.
I feel like it would be such a fun sports
culture to be a part of.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
I feel like it's different from you you've been to
Philly before. I feel like, like, you know, manioc area, and
I feel like that's what all of Pittsburgh is my
correct and center because I've never been to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeah, it very much where It's just it's very local feeling.
It's very neighborhood, it's very sidewalks, it's very bikable because Philly,
to your point, Philly's a city like I love Pittsburgh,
true and die, but like Philly's a city. Nash feels
bigger the downtown than Pittsburgh is. The downtown. Pittsburgh for
itself is a bunch of localized neighborhoods with a downtown.
And so when you're like, true, if Mitch is walking
(09:08):
around Philly that's because that's like a New York's right
city too, So just give a little there. But we
will say, yeah, we saw g my buddy that works
at House of Highlights. He kids at the coffee shop.
An old coworker named Lindsay was walking her dog and
she texted me. She was like, hey, like, next time
you're in town, can you remind me to put makeup on.
I had like eye patches walking her dog. I was like,
you're fine. And then we ran into a high school
friend at that same coffee shop, and so it was
(09:30):
it was cool.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
The food scene also slept on food scene in Pittsburgh.
I feel like they got some stuff. We oh, they
got some stuff.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
A lot of James Beard chef's, a lot of Micheline
hype and talk, a lot of cool spots, a lot
of fine dining. There's a place, like a couple places.
There's one that's hit the High Hold, which is in
a castle outside of the town. They're going for a
Michelin star. We went to Meet Potatoes, which is where
I used to live right next to, so I got
to show them like the apartment building, but Meet Potatoes
is the place we used to save up to go
to we got to sit in the private room. I
(09:58):
never knew there was a private room, had no idea.
So we did that. We went to my number one brewery, Sinderlands.
We got the food that's your number one on your
list on my list of ninety.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
That looked fire and the beer just like beautiful.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
I don't know if it was just like the chalice
it was in, but I'm like, that looks like it
would smack right now, but in like the wings, the casada,
the I think I heard clump and Jared got a
crunch wrapp the.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
Crunch trap supreme. There rips, we got Caesar salad, shremade
a whole salad, which he was just like, this is
good and it's a it's a hot day, got some burgers.
The wings were good Man and my buddies there. One
of their head brewers he he rips Pokemon packs with
the brewers there, so he brought out their card is
a milk tank and he got Will and Taylor to
sign it and he said they hung it up in
the office the other day.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
That's sick.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
He's a huge, huge fan of everything and so it
was it was cool there. We walked down the strip
So the Strip District is where all of our marts
and like Steelers merch and there's a fish market there
and stuff ran in the fish My college roommate who
works the crazy Yeah Fish to tell that story. He
works at the only PA liquor store, So you know,
wine and spirits, like is all of it. This is
(11:06):
a liquor store just for Pennsylvania liquor. So everything made
there can be sold there, but they can't take out
of product stuff. So during COVID they had a huge
boom because wine and spirits, how we have to buy
our liquor, was shut down. Fish is one of the
only it's like the Somalia for bourbon. I can't think
of the word, but he's one of like five in
the state. And he's a dog. Played college ball. We
got in the restaurant Seen Together. We lived in a
year in a one bedroom apartment with our mattresses touching,
(11:29):
and he was dating girl and I was dating girl
and I was like good night, Sarah, and he's like
good night Cam and we're just like saying tonight. And
the girls hated it. We thought it was the coolest
thing ever.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Bro he rips.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
He's the homie yit b.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
Yeah. I can't say enough good things about Pittsburgh, and
I was not expecting much honestly. I'm like, this would
be cool to see, I know, to have good sports culture,
but I'll probably be ready to go by the time
that we're out of here, and when I'm there, I'm like, dude,
I need to come here, like on a trip for
a weekend. Where was the draft itself?
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Yeah, it was outside after sure, so we were stationed.
There's like so you walk across a Vital Clemente P
and C parks here, then there's a bridge, like a
gap of not a bridge, a gap of like bars
acrossure and parking lots in between. So all the parking
lots were the set up, and it was on the stadium.
We were on the other side outside what's called the
Science Center and like that parking lot. So we were
(12:20):
set up behind. But they did a good job of
Like the area felt good compared to the only other
drunkive into is Detroit, and Detroit was on one street
and it felt like Battle of the Bastards, Like I'm
looking around, there's people here.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
I think that's how like Nashville was.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Yeah, oh sure, Pittsburgh felt spacious.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
More definitely spacious. Yeah, the Green Bay one last year
was like that set up. I felt like it was
pretty cool. Green Bay was awesome.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Honestly, did you go to Green Bay last year?
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Yeah? That was I Did they have a forty? Oh
yeah they did have one.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
So I saw a comment on either YouTube or saw that.
It's like I was waiting for Mitch to run a
five to one again. I'm like, bro, I'm so palmed.
I couldn't and I was aiming for like a four nine,
just kind of like messing around. But I'm like, couldn't even.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Based off our pump pass kick. We might actually have
to set up a race between Matt and Mitch. He
he go ahead and say what.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
I like, I had offered the race and Matt's like, oh,
I need I need one win on the day.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Yeah, we don't. We don't got to get Matt doesn't
get into it. Next week after the video comes out.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Such a fun video there.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Yeah, that was a good one. I'm trying to think
thing I'll say.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Pittsburgh too was h We didn't get over to my washing,
but Permanni brothers, the guys getting to try that sandwich
was big and a couple of lights there, and then
I did get to sneak away. We didn't get to
take the crew, which stunk. But I snuck away at
one trip to snag some bud lights and then I
snuck another trip to grab some waters and uh form energies,
that's how I word it. Uh and we and uh
(13:53):
so we ran into my brother at a new bar
that he opened up there. So I got to take
sure quick. Yeah, and so stopping said high to him
and brought Shurhan back, said hi to him, and he
met Shreham real quick. We had tried to go after
me potatoes, but we left dinner. It was so late
thirty bro, we were the last ones there. And then
after the draft we were all just ready to lay
down for a second.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
D I remember the draft when in Green Bay was
late night because we made the same walk back, Like
you know how he walked back from Lambeau to the Airbnb.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
We walked back from Did that feel like.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
A bad walk?
Speaker 3 (14:23):
I loved it?
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Okay, the weather it was perfect through that park.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
We were on our step game that whole week. Ten K.
I was on five days over ten K streak. Yeah,
I was Dano. Dano is awesome, man. I really I
really don't know his story that much, and I know
we were talking about it, but he'll allude to like
the reason I love football so much is because it
(14:46):
was the only family I ever had. My family was
so broken growing up that these are I consider all
the locker rooms all was in my actual family, and
I wish we could have learned more about that. And
I'm sure he's probably shared it a million times and
that's why he kind of just brushes over it. But
he truly is. I mean, I know he gets a
lot of hate from some of his takes, but I
feel like he's one of the best actual guys that's
(15:07):
on TV.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
He seems like, uh, I was watching I think I
was watching the vlog and when Taylor or Taylor and
Dano both mogged Will and.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
He's like, what's mogged mean?
Speaker 1 (15:23):
It's like he seems so innocently like awesome, right, and
like he doesn't know like the lingo and whatnot, but
like he seems like and even when he was here
for Tighten.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
You like just he seems like the fucking dude. I
think my favorite story actually was probably his spike ball
one yeah, with his kids, and he's his kids are
basically like, if we beat you in spike ball, then
we get a phone. If we don't, Dano says, you
get a phone your junior year of high school. His
kids are going into high school right now, and him
and his wife got that work, And I'm like, I
(15:53):
feel like that's the perfect image of probably what it's
like to be a part of his family.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
I feel like that would honestly be something you and
Sitting would do a million and you would be getting pissed.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
At Sitting for like not Yeah, dude, sit in his
athletic as crap spike ball, I got her in for sure.
But like if we played doubles tennis, like on the
week link, Yeah, if we played pick a ball on
the weak link.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
It's the thing I liked about that is he talked
a lot about his autism. Yeah, and we I couldn't
talk about it after It's not like it's a secret
for what's going on. But they talked a lot about
a project that he's working. Yeah, did they bring it
up on CAM? I forget if they mentioned it.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
No, I can't remember if it was during or Yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
I think we can talk about it off. But that
project was so cool because you're just like he loves
his family so much. He was such a cool guy,
very like nice to talk to for a second there
when I got to and his little he.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Did talk about it because I remember hearing it because
like somebody was making to clip about it or it
was in the vlog.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
Maybe it was just the character that he couldn't mention,
but he could do clanky. But yeah, that thing rips,
so for.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
We can say it.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Dana's son Madden, who has autism, is doing artwork for
Backyard Baseball, which is six unreal and it's like that
is like for to be a kid and they're like, yeah,
I'm in that game, like that's so awesome. But yeah,
he he seems like he rips and like like I'm
(17:25):
always curious, like you always hear how like the running
out of the back of the end zone like the
safety thing. It's like, but he went to Yukon and
like got drafted, like and Yukon's not a football school
like he was there with. I think him and d
Butt are like the two players to really come out
of Yukon.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
I feel like I'm forgetting a running.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Back Skylar Bell this year in the draft, and that's
the only one I can think of.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
They had a few guys in like the twenty teams.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Yeah, because we played him in a bowl game one
year and I remember they had a good running back. Yeah,
but I can.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Remember, like, I mean, he for him to be in
the league for twelve years coming out of Yukon, it's
like he must have had some shit to him.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Granted he's like six eight six.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Didn't he start that whole I mean, I know it
wasn't great, no glory, but didn't start the whole season
for that Lions team that.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
I don't know if he started the whole and sixteen season,
but I think he started a good bit of it because.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Then they got Stafford right after and he was still
on the team. Yeah oh yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
But I mean, like seeing those pictures of him too,
he's got such a babyface.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Oh I know, hey Yukon. Yeah he love Dan Oh
need him in Nashville for sure. How is that?
Speaker 1 (18:28):
What's everybody's thoughts? And I'm more so asking this to
one person of their of their draft.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
I came on here last week and said, man, I
just don't want the Cardinals to draft Jeremiah Love and
the that it was him and Jeremia Simpson ty Simpson. Yeah,
and then we got Carson Beck. Like literally, we're just cursed.
But here's here's my problem. Here, the thing about the
Cardinals drafting Love, and this is just a Cardinals thing.
(18:59):
He is probably the best overall player in the draft,
good argument for it, best player in the draft, and
somehow the only like team that would draft him and
fucking up is the Cardinals because they have so many holes.
They just paid like two running backs. When you have
(19:19):
a team full of holes in you're the worst even
in the league, you don't need a running back. And
then when you get him at three, he costs fifty
one million dollars not my money, but we're like, we
just drafted a fifty one million dollar running back. When
we needed line help, when we needed like defense, we
needed all these things, we took a fifty one million
dollar run back. And then you know, it's whatever.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
He'll be good.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
He'll take the Saquon CMC route and play for us
few years, be really good. We'll stink, and then he'll
go somewhere else and win a Super Bowl. So like,
I'm already prepared for what I'm not buying a jersey
is that it will be irrelevant to do with your
Tyler Al junior jersey. But burn it.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Did you buy Tyler? No?
Speaker 2 (19:58):
No, no, no, God.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
I might have to get you. Would you wear it
if someone else bought it for you? Probably because bro,
it's a moment like uh as somebody?
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yeah, Like I would wear it till the wheels fall
off in two years.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Wait, would there be a jersey? Like who's do you
want a jersey of any of the players on your team?
Speaker 2 (20:17):
The only jersey for the Cardinals that I would feel
good about is Trade McBride. But then like Buddha, Yeah,
but he's just like he's he's he's towards the end,
like Trad McBride's our star. Buddha's like our our consistent
pro bowler. But nobody really cares about Buddha. I love Buddha.
You just go safe.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Get a Chase Pisan to this jersey. He's your guardy draft.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
I'm excited about that one. You you did, guess Chase,
I'm excited about him.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Good one. Just get his jersey. Linemans are super safe.
They're not gonna for their contract.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Well here and another thing, going back to Carson.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Back, that's crazy. What this Carson Back. I'm so sorry.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
I thought you were saying the lineman taking.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
I was like, I was like, I think I hope
he's good. No, no, yeah, yeah, Carson Beck. So all
the discourse on on Twitter is like, well.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
I don't hate it. That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Here's the thing. It's like, oh, it's it's okay because
they're gonna get a quarterback next year, like this little bridge,
like he can be a backup. The Cardinals are like
primed to tank this year, be awful and draft a
quarterback and a loaded class next year and have good
weapons around him and kind of build it like the
right way, like start building it the right way. And
(21:32):
we burn a third round pick on Carson Beck, who
has a lot of questions, like he yeah he was
good at Miami.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
See that.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
But that's what I'm saying, Yeah, like he was good.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Joe Montana was also picked in the third round.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Well, Carson Beck and Joe mont Exactly. Here's the problem is.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Like I get that aspect of like burning a third
round pick when you could have get like.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
You need so much, bro, I would love quarterback is
a next year problem.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
I wish we could see a world where the Cardinals
don't pick him, and I would love to see where
Beck would have went. Yeah, but I don't think like
I think y'all are hating on Beck.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Yeah, but he's just not that like we are drafting
a quarterback next year. We are drafting a quarterback, so
like it just doesn't make sense. And you have all
these holes in a third round.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
Picks could have got Marc hal Bell tackle one, get
Romelo Height, Texas Tech. There Antonio Williams a wide receiver,
Oscar Doubles back up. You could have got Caleb Douglas,
wide receiver, Texa Tech. Could have got Drew Aller A
few picks later, A J. Halsey at center, Zach Right
a branch.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
They better not wear back. They better not let him
wear eleven if they were they If he wears eleven,
I'm burning it down now.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
Like I think Beck is a good quarter like he
I want to say, this could be very wrong. He
has the most starting snaps out of any quarterback that.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Got draftter this year.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
He's got he has like the most experienced, which is
like a kind of like a metric that they use
of like whether you're not gonna whether you're gonna be
successful or not. And not only that, like in the
SEC against like the really good Bama teams, the really
good who else did they play?
Speaker 3 (23:08):
They asked?
Speaker 1 (23:08):
The rest of the SEC kind of sucks, Yeah, LSU
Texas like whatever, Tennessee. But like he has that experience
in like winning SEC championships, making it to the national
championship two or three times. Like I don't think he's
a bad player, but burning a third round pick on him.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
But it's the same thing as the Jeremiah Love is.
Like it's the Cardinals make the wrong pick at the
wrong time. It doesn't matter if they're a good player
or not. Like Love is not the right pick for
the Cardinals. Thirty one teams would have been crushed, like
crushed it. That would have been a great pick. It's
he's still gonna be a good player on the Cardinals.
Not what they needed. They they kind of fucked up
Carson Beck. Another team could take them in the third round.
(23:47):
It's like, oh, you know what, like he could he
could do something. He could do something the cardlals, but
like they they are gonna get a quarterback next year.
They do not need it. It was they just burned
a pick, like it is not good. They're not good
at drafting. It's pretty obvious how they're franchises like awful
every year. They're just not good at drafting, and this
year I think it was like the biggest example of it.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
He's got to beat out Minshew for backup for even
Jacob And so then you look at next year where
if they do go quarterback, you're bringing in the Carson
back to be his backup.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
And he's not like a locker room person, you know,
he's he's what people say Kyler is. Yeah, he definitely
seems like he's a problem bro. Like Week six or seven,
he blames blaming the wide receiver for running the wrong
route and losing the game. You see as Lamborghini getting
stolen in Miami.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Nobody likes him, right, you know that's just word about.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
His birthday party, Like why why is nobody on his birthday?
That tracks? Why do you like that? You like he
likes to let me stuggle on him. Whatever.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
It's a it's a bad pick and they're a bad franchise,
and if you expect them to be good in the
next three to four years, there's still gonna be the Cardinals,
and I'm gonna be right in so of him because
I right is because it's just facts, like they're not
gonna be good in three more years, like they're always bad.
So it's not like that that's a bad pick because it's.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
It's just they're in Division two.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yeah, yeah, you're kind of fucked. Yeah, it's like six
Auto l's every year, but that doesn't even matter, like
you gotta show some fight.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
I feel like the Ty Simpson to the Rams is
like a ballsy pick, but it's if you think about it,
it's like Jordan Love to the Packers.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Yeah, even if that doesn't work out though, Like the
Rams and the Niners, the Seahawks always draft well. The
Rams and the Niners they draft well too. They can
fuck up a pick that would cost anybody else like
three years, and they're just like good, it doesn't matter.
Like Trey Lanston. Yeah, Trey Lance didn't slow down the
Niners like they got pretty late whatever. The Rams didn't
have a first round pick for like six straight years
(25:50):
and one of super Like, it does not matter. Those
teams can afford to kind of reach.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Or fuck super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Sam Darnold, Yeah, Seattle like and they and they draft good.
The Cardinals can't afford to like take a risk, and
even when they take the sure thing, Isaiah Simmons, he's
bust city. So it's just like there is no hope.
There's really no hope.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
There's always hope. Man, No, you got hope.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
You saw my hope before the season. I thought we're
gonna be good.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
There's hoping the Dallas Stars. Brother, no, there's not.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
We're down three two.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
This is we. Coop and Ryan were talking the other
day and Ryan brought up some Rangers game. Coops has
seasons over, or maybe it's talk about Matt and they're
fourteen and fourteen. It's April.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
I was telling Ryan, it's so funny. I mean, twenty
twenty three was a great, like they won the World Series.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
I can't even complain. But since twenty fifteen, they've been
asked besides twenty twenty three, and I just kid, it
looks I look forward to baseball season every year and
then the Rangers just rage make me all summer. He
got a World Series, it worth it, but.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
But he that's not gonna stop him from bitching about this.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Yeah, I mean, I got like I gotta. I'm invested.
I watch every game. It's really at least keep over
there every game that I gets like fever pitch.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Yes he's Jimmy Fallon. I haven't seen that. Watching phrase
hard Boston Red Sox fan, like his whole life revolves
around it. Doesn't miss a home game. It's a bird movie.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
I said, I like, I love the Rangers.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
But do you love the Rangers more?
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Or Rangers? That's my favorite.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Team, like over the Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Yeah, Rangers are my favorite overall team. Probably Rangers Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
What about MAVs.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
I used to like the Maps. I used to like
the MAVs more. I used to like basketball more. I
just said, kind of since the Lucas well, yeah, I
have made the right play, but no, they didn't make
the right play. They lucked into a good play after
making the wrong play the MAVs. I I follow the
mass because I follow Luca and I only followed the
(27:47):
MAVs the NBA. I just I can't. I can't follow them.
I don't like the NBA, and now that like the
MAVs fucked up, I really don't. I have not really
watched any playoff game of the NBA yet.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
I've only watched there's been some good ones. I mean
it's nice.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
I used to watch them be good. Yeah, and even
they're they're struggling number yeah, but they're yeah, they're they're
down three to one now three two.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
You're just oozing negativity onest team to win.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
I think you might enjoy this part.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
There's some fun about watching your team b ass and
just raging such a crazy sure.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
I feel like even when your teams, even when your
team's good, you'd be like, Noah, bro, we're about working.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Dude, let me consume my team win the super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
He's like, they're gonna drop the trophy.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
It's yeah, the Cardinals are not gonna win the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
If they did, would you be happy? Or yeah, I'd
be happy.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
I was a cloud die when the Rangers in the
World Series.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
You probably couldn't tell you anything.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
No, I was up till two a M buying merge.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Was that? Was that the fall right before you got here? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Twenty twenty twenty three.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
I was in Atlanta, damn, so we could. We couldn't
even experience series I did. I really can't like probably
if we I'm telling you South Carolina when the National
it would be it wraps. I feel like you would
just have to retire. Yeah, I'm going on tour and
there's nobody even trying to come see me. I'd just
(29:14):
be going around everywhere.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Would you go to South Carolina for the game or
to the National Championship game to watch? I always talk
about that, like I don't even know if the Steelers
win a super Bowl, I'd rather be in Pittsburgh than
the super Bowl, is what I've always said.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
That would you go to Williams Brice to watch the
game or would you go to Arizona to watch it?
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Dude, that's a great question. I think off rip, I'm
saying Arizona like to go watch the game, but man,
I would want to do everything I could to get
back in time for when that team gets there. Because
when just to give you a little glipse, when South
Carolina went to our final four run in basketball, we
played in Greenville and we beat Duke and I was
at the game in Greenville. It was the last game
(29:54):
of that session. So it ends at like ten or
eleven o'clock, drive back down to Columbia and like just
beat the buses and I'm there when the players get
off the bus and we're deaffing everyone up, and I'm like,
that part was almost even better than the game. But
going on, I gotta be everywhere once once we win.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
That's that's a good point. I wasn't at the game
obviously when the Rangers won, but I was in Atlanta
like a Buffalo wild Wings with some of my like
intern friends there. Yeah, there was nowhere else I would
rather been than like back home in Texas. Yeah, because
that's my childhood team. Like, that's the one I had
invested the most in my whole life. And as soon
as I fucking move away, they win the World Series,
(30:32):
which is great, I would easy trade.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
But there who which pick? Were you most excited about?
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Jennings Dunker?
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Not even close for me? And it's I rewatched the
blog at the vlog and I was like, all right,
I didn't look too stupid, but I definitely looked stupid,
but I didn't look too I don't hate Max, It's
just it felt very panicky. We didn't bring them in.
There's a high school buddy Mines, the number one beat
writer for the Steelers, and his whole thing is we
always bring in or go to their pro day. He
just was complete left field from what I wanted. Jenny's
(31:00):
Bunker though I had him grated really high as a guard,
He's a tackle that started swinging in was great. We
now have the most solidified offensive line that I think
we've had since our Super Bowl runs of just like
in like Zach Frasier, I think he's it's Tim Mcreed
Humphrey best center. Mason McCormick was like a fourth or
fifth rounder of South Dakota. He's a neck roll.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Love that.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
And now we got Dunker in there too, with like
a red just mullet from God. And I'm like, those
three meaty hogs are my three favorite. I might try
to get a trifecta jersey. Yeah, but I was a
big fan. Jeremy Bernard is a really good pick too.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
That's a underrated, very exciting, like the Drew Aller project pick.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
It's tough for me because my perspective on the Drew
Aller pick is obviously different than what your perspective for
Carson Beck, Like even if they were flipped or whatever,
because we're still holding out hope and we had the
unrestricted pridgent for Rogers. Rogers still is the best player
to play quarterback for us since Ben, and if he
played this year, would still be there. My thing with
Drew Allery is the city of Pittsburgh needs to understand
(31:59):
that as cool as Will Howard is anyone in Natty,
he's a sixth round pick. We don't have a lot
invested in him. I think Drew Aller, if he comes
out last season, he's a first round pick, and there's
no questions.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
A definitely more talented than.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
Yeah, yeah, easily across the board. The city of Pittsburgh
is just so tired of not having a guy they'll
force Will Howard to be the guy in their heads.
I liked it for the sense of, like one of
the two of them is probably gonna be my starter
next year and then unless we go in the first
and draft someone next year. But that's that's an interesting one.
I liked the Drew Aller pick. If I can delete
this season of Penn State football from my memory, I.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Know it's hard man, but he hurt, did get hurt,
but it hurt.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
The James Franklin saga their skill position players not being
great then just kind of being dogwater as a team
and like a punching bag up in Pennsylvania and then
we draft the guy. I just keep watching his tape
from two years ago and be like, no, dude, this
is a six to five, huge arm with some accuracy issues.
Who is just our best quarterback on the roster right now,
aside from Mace. But I still think he's better.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
The h the only because I'm friends with so many
Penn State fans. The only issue with dree Ler's accuracy, Yes,
but like that was the same thing with not comparing
him to Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
But like you, that's all mechanics. You work on mechanics,
you fix, you fix that stuff. Yeah, I want to
know what he's like up here, because that's I know.
In his penn State career it was always a knock
on like they did they never did win the big game.
How much of that is on him? Who knows? Because
James Franklin he never wins.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
I haven't heard like anything from anybody like that, like
ran into Roller and said like, oh, he's a deucebag
kind of thing. I haven't heard any of that, so
I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
I just want to know if he believes in himself,
like in the in the fourth quarter of a game,
Like does he really think I can make any throw
on this field.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
I think being a James Franklin kid breeds that within you,
and it is so like my next sentence for that
is and they're always wrong, but it breeds the self
confidence of it that like, no, we're the best and
we're going to do this. Because I know that's how
Penn State fans are. I know that's how obviously he's different,
but Barkley felt. I know that's how some of these
guys that have always been the face of it really
(34:09):
even back to like Christian Hackenberg. Like Hackenberg thought he
was the guy and it sucked. Yeah he wasn't great
at football. But I I like Drew Aller being a
Pittsburgh Steeler. It's good for the city. It's nice to
have you even brought up. And I know they kind
of said it wasn't a thing, But like him and
Will Howard knowing each other, I think it's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
I had some dude in the comments where like Drew
or yeah, Drew Allers from Ohio, get it right, dipshit,
I'm like, I don't fucking care about where Drew allis is.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Also, didn't even you said, Will Howard was from. You
didn't even say I don't think where Drew was from.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
But regards Drew allidhs from Ohio. Will Howard's from Downingtown, Pennsylvania.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
Yes, you had said Howard was from PA, and I
was like, yeah, I didn't even see I don't.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
I don't fucking like but the more like there you're
if you're in Pennsylvania, the number one school you want
to go to is penn State. Yes, like that is
that's very well known. I'm sure same thing as South Carolina.
You want to go to South Carolina. Like it's work Clemson, but.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
South Carolina or coastal uh in Oklahoma you want to
go to oklahom State.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
What do you think of the Chiefs draft? Because I
graded you guys really high.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
I I think this is a hot take. I hate
the man sword delaye pick. I don't like that at all.
I don't know who Peter Woods is. We named our
our another, our third round pick. His first name is
r Mane. I actually now that like Peter not saying
I me not saying I didn't know who Peter Woods is.
(35:35):
Like I know who he is, but like don't know
enough about it.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
I think drafting Garrett ness Meyer Bold bold pick. I
think people are a little bit wrong on Garrett neus Meyer.
I got a saur taste strictly because of Josh Payton.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
Yeah, he kind of ruined him for us.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
And what what I know we had it in a group.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Like hey Garrett because it was and Clemson club Nick right, yeah, like.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Hey LSU or no, you're gonna shop the better LS.
You're gonna l was.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
Gonna shoo the because an injury for yeah, come out
or something of that.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Before the season.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
But then they did fourteen to seven.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
I think, oh yeah, oh wait, so I should I
should be on Garrett's side.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
Yeah, there I might be saying, right, there was something
where LS won and we were told not to pick Elis.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Yes, yeah, And dude, I think that injury was legit.
And Dudemer last year like not this fascinating season before
he's dialed like he's got some ship to him.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
Yeah, coach too.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
I mean we have obviously Mahomes justin fields. I don't know,
I don't know who the third guy is. If we
have somebody else, and then we have Garrett Smyer, like
I feel like he will be It's kind of sucks
the same way. Too early to say like a perennial backup.
He could be like in Orlowski kind of he'll be
a backup for a long time. He very clearly.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Henney, Yeah, he had a seventh is so nice.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Nose ball you got. He sucks.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
We can get rid of him and get We'll keep Garrett, but.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
You like that man took over for Trent. I think
Peter Woods is a grinder that'll be nice to Chris
Jones and our our Mason Thomas Orr Thomas Mason, I
love him.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Sneaky pick too. Emma Johnson with Kenneth Walker and now
Emma Johnson, Like I got squad kind of fun with that.
The only thing I'm bummed that we didn't get and
I wanted was a tight end to like for to
be under Trav who's like young athletic that Trav could
(37:40):
then teach. I know, and I I want Rob to
be the man, but I really wanted Michael Trigg. But
then I'm I'm hearing stuff that like he's a locker
room He's from Taylor Baylor Cowboys, but like I'm hearing
that he's like a locker room cancer, like or hearing
(38:00):
reading but like he has all of the like he's
a big body in the athletic but and I feel
like Trav Can.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
I think it's so he wished me happy birthday, so
I can do it. Trav Can, like do you remember that.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
Trat comment?
Speaker 3 (38:18):
Drave Can be like, hey, shut the fuck up. He
can put him in his place. Yeah, you're going to
listen to Travis Kelsey and he's.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Og enough to where like I mean who He's not
going to listen like per se to like Jake Ferguson
or Dalton or not even Don Schultz.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
A saf ferg though he do he does have some sauce.
Yeah he does.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
But I uh, like I I did want to solidify
that that tight end position because this is we we
all know this is Travis last year.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
Yeah. The only thing I have on the draft because
I I don't really have a full on NFL team.
I just followed my game Cocks Jalen Kilgore. I have
no idea and I know I'm biased, but I have
no idea how he fell into the fifth round where
Buffalo and he's the steal of the draft. He's the
(39:09):
steal of the draft. Dude. He had a top five
performance at the Combine. All of his numbers are almost
identical to Nicki Manwari. He's just like a tad bit
less athletic but comes from the same exact system where
they pretty much leave these guys on an island on
our defense and tell them go make plays, trust your instincts,
and coach them up that way, and like that's the NFL,
(39:31):
Like you have to be able to play like that,
and our defensive system has bred some really good defensive
players to the NFL recently. And the fact that he's
in the fifth round, I know the GM called him
and was like, Hey, I can't believe you're still here.
Thank God you're still here. Like, let's get to work.
And bro. Kilgore's family, his dad is a legend, James Kilgore,
(39:52):
senior veteran of the US Army, possibly a marine, one
of the best Twitter follows of all time, the most
wholesome of all time. After every loss, he's just sweetened out.
The work is the only thing that matters. Head forward,
feet forward, all this stuff. Yeah, zero issues in the
locker room. I couldn't believe he fell to the fifth round,
but I can't wait for him to just light the
(40:13):
NFL up the only guy. No, so we actually had
Nick Barrett. He got drafted before Jalen Kilgore. He's a
d lineman. The Chargers picked him. Uh, and then some
guys signed after your boy.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Yeah, second round, dB, he's gonna be oh yes, yes,
he's gonna be nice.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Second round think yeah, first or second pick of the
second round. I feel like he was stage. Yeah, he's nice.
Next year is gonna be a big draft for South Carolina?
Oh yeah, Man Sellers pass this year we could have
like low key three first round Nick Carver, you could
have you could possibly eligible, uh, Stuart, Yeah, you could
(40:57):
have two top five picks. I know when Dylan's in
Dylan store and Leonoris Sellers. Yeah, golly, we have got
to go to the playoffs. That would be a South
Carolina thing, like have two top five picks and not
go to the playoff. How long we've been going? It's
got on Mario Rivera four. No, you're right, you're right.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Hey, he was the last one. I think they could
wear forty two before they retired at League one. A
whole baseball nugget.
Speaker 4 (41:25):
For the last thing I do want to say, is, uh,
some guy commented saying that progerct Jones our best lineman.
What a phony. Somebody commented and said we should go
to Gristhouse instead of Sunderland's what a phony. And someone
commented and said, why would you take them to Randy
sand Randyland rips set the stage there. It rips just
(41:47):
a house.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
I watched the log I'm like, like, this place is
so fucking weird, but it's like I need to go
check it out exactly. Yeah. That plays a right down
the street from a lemonade stand too.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Oh yeah, yeah that's all. I didn't get that off
my chest to you guys.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Yeah, It's kind of like when I got shipped for
taking everybody to gyms for cheese steaks. It's like, who
are you?
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Cheese steak was good too?
Speaker 1 (42:10):
Yeah, you go to you talk to ten different people,
You're gonna hear seven different spots, right, It's like there's
no winning, no satisfying everybody.
Speaker 3 (42:19):
Yeah, especially Philly. Yeah shit, that's where I'm from. There,
that's my people. Shout of the flyers. But yeah, JP
